Access PXI chassis resources via LAN and MXI?

I have a PXI chassis that I access from an external PC via MXI. I would like to have remote access to the PXI system from another PC on the network. [How] can I do this?

This really depends on what you mean by remote access. If you want to see what's running on the external PC you can use remote desktop (a summary of setting this up is below). If you're running LabVIEW and want to see a VI you could try "remote panel connection" in the tools menu.
To use remote desktop the external PC needs to be running WinXP Pro (and the other PC needs a version of WinXP).
To enable remote desktop on the external PC, go to "system properties" (right-click on "my computer" and select "properties"), and enable it on the "remote" tab.
From the other PC, go to start->all programs->accessories->communications->remote desktop connection.

  • Apple TV as Airport access point if connected via LAN

    Hi!
I thought about the possibility to use the new Apple TV as Airport/WLAN access point in the case that it is connected via LAN. You don't need an Airport Express and you got Airport/WLAN/HDMI/Audio in all rooms (and around that room) you connect an Apple TV to. Nice and best for hotels!
Vice versa: If you connect it via Airport to use the ethernet port as a hub/switch to connect devices. I think this should be possible and hope that it's only a firmware update...
Next step is not only to playback videos/photos from other devices. Just use it as a main or second screen for all kind of devices (Computer Extensions forMac OS X/Windows other will follow...).
You don't have to connect a notebook to a beamer anymore. There's only the AppleTV connected to a beamer. The video comes via Airport/WLAN /LAN.
Make the USB Plug useful to connect printers or storage devices!!!
That should be great and makes Apple TV the most useful device ton install it in every room in the house!!!
I think, if the Apple TV can be connected to any kind of device, it shouldn't be Apple's hobby anymore.

  • Can't recognize airport via lan and wan cables??

Trying to add airport extreme to present set up of G4 desktop that presently is hooked up to an external high speed modem.
Want to hard wire to desktop and use airport extreme for laptop. I'm not simple but do not know much about setting up wireless.
Here is my presnet set up.
High speed modem to airport extreme via wan cable.
Airpirt extreme to g4 mac via lan cable.
Computer won't recognize airport. can't use setup utility, can't get to internet.
Trying to locate pppoe message and then mothing.
Please...any suggestions for someone not very wireless savy
    power mac g4 dual 450   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    This has been very helpful.
I used airport setup asst. for windows and now have configured a secure wireless connection for my dell (dude). I used PPPoe since my internet provider uses it. Can't wait until Feb when I will be getting my power book.
But I have the problem that the G4 dual 450 desktop will not recognize the aebs when i have connected to it via the lan port. I want to be able to configure it this way so I don't have to put a card in it. Wired to desktop, wireless to laptop.
Also, it looks like the desktop is only compatible with airport and not airport express. Not sure where could find a card.
You have been very helpful through this so thank you very much.
Do you have any last advice?

  • Can't access server web sited via lan

    Hello
I hope there is somebody here that can help me with this problem..
All of sudden I can't access the different web site I host on my OS X Server 3.1.
It worked fine this morning but this afternoon I just get an 404 server not found, but if I connect from outside the LAN it works fine all the sites are working, but not from within the LAN, and that was working before...
The wired thing is that I haven't made any changes to the server ore any of my computers/iPad/iPhone...
If I change the DNS on my computers from using the router to using the server it works fine, so I'm thinking it's something to do with DNS resolution at my ISP
As far as I understand it's like this
domain.com -> top registrar -> external DNS provider -> my external IP -> server on lan
But it has been working fine for 1 year now and I haven't made any changes in the past, and I'm thinking that since it works fine from outside my LAN and when I use the server as DNS server it works fine...
I think it's the router or my ISP that can't route correctly since the request comes from the same IP as the GET is for... but then again it was working fine this morning... :S
I hope that there is somebody out there that can help me either show me a tool where I diagnose the HTTP/DNS request ore something...
    /Alex

You need to run internal DNS which points the host
    names to the private IP.
Your current setup probably sends the host names to
your external address, which causes your
client-server traffic to go through your router (not
    very efficient).
Internal DNS is the best way to solve this.
You might get a quick fix by changing the web admin
port of the router to something other than 80. (this
will allow traffic to loop back to LAN port on some
    routers).
    Jeff
Could you give a step by step on the DNS setup? I new to his and a complete ignorant sod. thanks so much
And how would I change the web admin port in the router? I have a NAT rule on port 80 pointing to the server. If I change that would it not mean that all traffic coming into port 80 (i.e. http traffic) would get lost?
    thanks

  • Accessing the Admin API via Linux (and hopefully Python)

I have been looking through the available documentation and past forum
entries but I see nothing really on point.
It is possible to have a complete GW system on Linux, from server to
client. So if it is possible to administer a GW system from Linux using
Console One, it should be possible to access the API from Linux.
Can anyone point me towards the appropriate documentaion? Thanks

All a matter of resources, Bob. They've had an admin api under
development for years, just didn't have time to make it ready for Bonsai.
You are correct, however you must have a win32 box (or try wine, but I
doubt that's worth it). One friend of mine then wrappered the whole
thing in a SOAP service, so he could mostly avoid thinking about windows.

  • Accessing a network resource via javascript

    Hello,
we have been using Adobe Reader for linux provided by the yum repository for quite some time, without major issues. Currently, however, we are seeing a mysterious problem with a PDF form which is designed to exchange data with a local server, using javascript functionality, as far as I can see. On one of our machines (running CentOS 5.8 64-bit) this has stopped working recently, and I cannot figure out why. Clicking the respective field simply has no effect, there is no error message, neither in the Reader window, or on the console, both in normal mode and debug mode. Nothing in the system logs either. The function simply seems to be ignored!
Some observations which might be helpful:
    1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Reader package, after clearing all personal preferences, did not have any effect.
    2. Using a fresh version of the PDF form did not solve the problem.
    3. Firewall and SElinux are disabled anyway.
    4. With a "clean" account on the same machine, the same problem occurs.
    5. On a very similar machine (same OS, same Reader version) the operation is working properly!
So it seems to be something specific to this machine, but not specific to a certain account. It is obviously neither a corrupted Reader installation, nor a problem with this specific reader version, nor a corrupted PDF form. Now I am running out of ideas...
Any suggestions what else might be preventing network access (via javascript) from functioning properly? Javascript itself is (by default) enabled in the preferences.
    Thanks in advance
    Oliver

  • Can my wife use her iPad to get access to my music via iTunes Match and still retain her iTunes store user id?

my wife has a new iPad and iPad Store user ID.  I have a seperate iTunes store user id and subscribe to iTunes Match.  All my music is now in the "cloud".  Can my wife get access to my music via match and still retain her iTunes store user id?
The only way I seem to be able to get Match to work on her iPad is if she uses both my iCloud user ID and my iStore user ID.

Essentially I have the same problem.  My spouse and I have a shared music collection on 1 computer.  We've used different id's for our various devices for years.  Currently we both use iPad minis iPhones and AppleTV.  I have iTunes Match on my account.  Recently we haven't been able to access songs bought or downloaded by the other id.  iTunes says that the computer is associated with another id.  In fact we have 1 song that didn't finish downloading when an album was bought on my spouses account while the rest of the album is there.  My suspicion is that I will need to go down to a shared id when we buy our new MacBook Pro for Boxing Day.  But, if we do that are we able to have separate calendars and passbooks and other features?  Is there another option?  I'm willing to stop using iTunes Match if necessary.

  • Use NI LabView and LabView RT with third party PXI chassis

"You can't.  I think NI bought Pharlap, and they do not offer board support packages (BSPs) for non-NI PXI controllers.  There is no way to get LabVIEW-RT running on a controller not purchased from NI.  You will have to use a standard RTOS like Linux,VxWorks, or QNX.
    Regards

As described in the web links below, the only way to run LabVIEW Real-Time for ETS on a third-party system would be to follow the procedure for desktop PC computers. You may find that your third party PXI controller may meet the requirements listed in the below link and you will be able to run Real-Time on the controller. If you decide to do this, you will need to purchase the LabVIEW Real-Time Desktop Deployment license (also linked below). After purchasing the deployment license, you will be sent boot disks that will install the real-time OS onto your system. There is no need to purchase Pharlap ETS from Ardence directly.

Instead of using LabVIEW Real-Time for ETS, you could use LabVIEW Real-Time for RTX instead. This system allows you to run Windows and the Ardence Real-Time eXtensions (RTX) real-time kernel concurrently on one machine. Currently device support for LabVIEW RT for RTX systems is limited to RIO devices. This is all described in the below link.

  • Can I connect a PC via LAN to my WLAN - connected time capsule?

    Hi,
I haven't found any info on this in the forums yet:
    The problem:
My WLAN - router is located in my living room and has loads of devices connected (iPhone, iPad, 2 Zeppelin Air, MacBook Air, some other Win - PCs etc...)
One of the PCs (Win 7) is in another room, connected via WLAN too.
I now have a time capsule near this PC and would like to connect these two via LAN and then use the WLAN connection of the time capsule for this PC too.
After connecting the Ethernet cable (which was working fine elsewhere) I see that there is a connection, but no access to the network.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

You likely have the Time Capsule configured to "Join a wireless network". Is that correct?
If yes, the Time Capsule does not perform any routing functions in this type of configuration. In effect, it has become a wireless hard drive.
Therefore, the Etherent ports are not enabled, so there is no signal available at the ports.

    Hello,
You can install LabVIEW RT ETS on a third party PXI controller just as if it were a PC.  Check the requirements that a PC needs to have in order to run LabVIEW RT ETS.

  • PXI chassis won't power up

This is a pretty silly question...
I received a new PXIe-1073 yesterday.  After installing the host PCIe card, I started with a fresh installation of Windows XP, and installed Labview, the latest version of NI-DAQmx, and the PXI chassis drivers.  I then connected the PXI chassis to the host, and attempted to power it on.
The fans spin up briefly, and the power LED goes green, then it shuts down and the LED just blinks red.  The manual briefly mentions that this indicates the power is out of spec, but gives no details.  I don't see how this would be possible.  I actually checked the outlets in the room with a multimeter a few weeks ago. I've tried a number of different outlets (and circuits), including one where another PXI chassis is running happily
For whatever reason, the "official" NI power cable wasn't included on the quote sent to the distributor, so the chassis is plugged in with a regular heavy duty computer power cable.  I also tried several of these.  I don't see how this could be causing the problem, though.
Is there anything else that can produce this behaviour in a PXI chassis?  Have I messed up somewhere, or is it a dud?

It sounds like you have already taken care of it, but if you are having more funky issues, get in touch with an engineer at NI for trouableshooting/repair options.

    Hello,
it could it be an incompatibility with the desktop PC (maybe?). I know of cases in which the PCI board can be incompatible with a certain PC for various reasons (PCI bus not 100% compliant to PCI standards, PCI power rails, PCI bus-master capabilities, motherboard/chipset issues, etc..).
I mean, has the PC been changed?
    Wich PC model/brand is it?
Have you tested it on another of PC (another model)?
In case you have already tested your mxi-4 in other PCs and the behavior is the same, I suggest you to contact your local NI office for assistance.

  • Detect and employ PCI or PXI chassis

I'm currently on a project which has historically bee based around a PCI backplane (in a desktop PC) containing a couple of PCI-6229 cards and a PCI-7833R. This forms the core of a testrig of which there are about 25 instances worldwide. In addition, we also support many rigs which are cored around a NI PXI chassis.
There is a drive to replace the PCs and we have opted for a for smaller footprint unit having fewer PCI slots. These are being equipped with an MXI extender card to a PXI backplane. This means in future, we need only keeps spares in the PXI format. Supporting two sets of backplanes containing near-identical hardware without implementing two near-identical pieces of software does present its problems: The FPGA bitmap build for the PCI version of the card will not open through the reference type for the PXI version of the card. We need to have a PCI and a PXI version of the bitmap. Irritatingly, the source code for these two is identical.
The first part of the solution is to establish which backplane we're using. This is straightforward. Supplying the VISA Find Resource function with the appropriate search string will identify if any PXI backplanes are connected. (Figure 1.)
Next, we need to maintain references to both FPGA VIs. Figure 2 illustrates how the FPGA to be used can be opened and proposes a structure in which the references to all available FPGA types (this example actually has four FPGA bitmaps which might be selected). In each of the other cases, the appropriate bitmap is selected in the Open FPGA Reference VI. Further, in each case, the reference is wired to the appropriate component from the cluster. (For calibration records, we also find it necessary to return the serial number of the card, but that portion of this code can be ignored.) Notice that the FPGA_Type component of the cluster is used to control which bitmap loads and which Ref component is used to store its Reference. This is necessary because the reference types are different for each bitmap.
Having set FPGA_Type, Figure 3 shows how to employ the selected resource. A separate Read/Write Control must be coded for each FPGA type.
Closing the resource also requires a case for each FPGA type.
I hope anyone else planning a stepped migration between backplanes can make use of this.

To program any DAQ card for use in Linux you need to use Register Level Programming. Unfortunately, Register level programming for the counter/timer products based on the NI-TIO ASIC (includes the 660x boards) is not supported.
