Access Restriction Problem in WRT54G2

I have a WRT54G2 Linksys Router (Firmware Version: 1.0.01) . I want to implement the following restriction access policy for my office employees.
i would like to disable Hotmail,Yahoo & facebook 24/7 on IP starting from 192.168.1.11-30.
For doing so i setup a policy (Named: Office)
In The Ip Range window i put IP Range 01: 192.168.1.11-192.168.1.30
Website Blocking By URL Address : www.yahoo.com,www.hotmail.com,www.facebook.com
Blocked Service : None
Block Site by Keywords: Blank
When i make the policy Enable & set Deny Below The  PCs' tab...I get disconnected from internet..
I am getting request timed out when i try to ping  my default gateway & none of the site can be browsed.
I tried to implement the policy enable via setting Allow Pc's but then all of the above mentioned site is not blocked. But the internet connection remais ok that time.
I tried via putting MAC address & Individual IP address & set Allow/Deny -- but nothing Happened
main Problem is whenever i am trying to enable any policy via Deny the PC's then whole internet connecntion disrupted..but i actually want to disable only hotmail, yahoo & Facebook
Thanks in advance..Any Suggestion to implement my Restriction Policy Would be highly appreciatable.

  • WRT120N v1.0.07 Access Restriction Problem

My Wireless-N Home Router WRT120N with version 1.0.07 seems to have a problem blocking Sites through scheduling with Access Restriction "Allow" ...
I notice that... when I enable access restriction, with policy and some range of computers connecting to my router  , and set it to "allow" from "monday - friday" from  "8am-6pm" .. with a purpose of blocking some social networking sites, example facebook, It works perfectly fine. But when the "scheduled" time comes ( before 8am and after 6pm ).. I cannot access the internet.. router is working, it detects my modem.. but no internet connection.
It always happen before and after the "scheduled time" before the configured access restriction takes over.  I have to disable the Access Restriction to continue our internet access.

In this case, I would like to ask whether you have upgraded the firmware of the router yourself? If yes, did you reset and reconfigure the router after the firmware upgrade? If you haven't, then I would recommend you to reset and reconfigure the router. The following link shows how to reset the router http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=eaa3127db5f4402584c959a7251e754c_4008.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Downgrading firmware on WRT54G/access restrictions

I had a WRT54G.  Access restrictions worked.  I upgraded the firmware and the access restrictions no longer worked.
So after researching, it appears the firmware I upgraded to was buggy and the access restrictions didn't work with the new firmware.  I couldn't figure out how to downgrade back to what I had.
Called Linksys and ultimately they said they would send a new router.  I asked if it would have the old firmware that my router had previously, where the access restrictions worked.  Yes, they said.
New router arrives today.  Firmware is v1.02.2, June 7, 2007.  NOT the prior firmware.  Sure enough, the access restrictions still do not work on this router either.  I don't want to spend yet another two weeks trying to resolve this with Linksys.
Question:  Is there a way to downgrade to firmware where the access restrictions actually work for WRT54G?  If so,
what version should I downgrade to?
where do I obtain it? and
can I download the firmware and then install it using the administration/upgrade firmware tab on the router (even though it is a downgrade)?
Thanks very much for any thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestion, Badboy.  Unfortunately, although I could download the firmware and successfully load it onto the router, the access restrictions in that version do not work either.
It doesn't seem as though all prior versions of firmware are on the ftp site, ftp.linksys.com.  For example, I also have a wrt54gs v. 4 (speedbooster) with the same access restriction problem.  It currently has a firmware version loaded that doesn't appear to be listed on that website.  (I couldn't download prior firmware for that version that worked.)  So, perhaps prior firmware exists for the wrt54g v. 6 that is not listed on that site also.
Does anyone know if there is another site that has a more extensive collection of prior linksys firmware?
If not, I suppose I can call linksys again, but even if they send yet another router promising the old firmware on it, I suspect the message is just going to get lost between the promise made on the phone and the guy in the warehouse filling the RMA order.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Problem with access restriction

I have about 50 to 80 users under my internet connection and i used the router 2500 and make there repeater of the single connection but i want to restrict many of the user on interner and some on timely but is not possible with this version of product, what can i do house, or what software do you suggest for me to use with this to restrict the internet access on this network.
Again, i try to use switch sf100-24 becos of the numbers of the cable to use that is more than 4 as we have only 4 port on the router for ethernet but if i connect it after few second it will make all the connection saying 'unidentify network' and it will not function again what can i do to solve this problem too please!!! help me house

Hi, you might perhaps consider getting a gigabit switch in order for those devices to be able to work with access restriction.

  • WRT160Nv3 problem with blocking traffic using Access Restrictions

    Hi.
I want something quite simple. Block Youtube. I go into "Access Restrictions", choose a name for policy 1, enable it, choose the pc from the pc list, but then...
if a click Deny, all other options will be disabled (greyed out, can't click nor write on them).
Therefore, I can't put the urls I want (youtube).
I tried writing the url with "allow" and then change it to "deny" but it will block ALL traffic.
    No good.
So, how do I make a new policy just to block this one URL?
Is it normal that when I click and choose "Deny" everything gets disabled afterwards?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Leo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

for internet access policy DENY means to restrict internet access during specified days and hours. this will block ALL internet traffic for the said schedule. website blocking by URL, blocking by means of keyword and blocking applications would then be NOT AVAILABLE as the computers would not have internet access to begin with if you have such a policy disabled.
for your case, you may want to try to set restriction to ALLOW internet access then specify youtube.com under Website Blocking by URL. this would allow computers to have access to the internet all the time (if you have the schedule set to EVERYDAY) or during specific days and hours but NOT have access to youtube.

  • WRT54G Access Restriction Time /Day Problems. Need Help!

    Hi,
I have a WRT54G wireless router. When I set the access restriction time to DENY everyday from 11:00pm to 6:00am, it displayed that "The end time must be bigger than start time!". It is from 11 at night to 6 in the morning. How else do I set it? I even upgrade the firmware to v4.21.1 but it still does not work with that time setting.  I tried to set to ALLOW everyday from 6:00am to 11:30pm and it accepted the settting but it just applied the restriction right away without waiting for the right time (after I enable it, none of the laptops can access internet even its only 9:10pm).. The time in the linksys setup page is correct as well as all my pcs. Please help! Thanks.

The Access Restrictions feature of a Linksys router allows you to limit Internet access on your network.  You can deny certain computers’ Internet access or block certain applications and services.
Here is the link for setting up the Access Restrictions on a Linksys router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=20b29e54474a4a17aff594cb659747ea_4041.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Access restrictions timing off by 1 hour

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem.  I have set access restrictions on my WRT610N router and they execute an hour earlier than set.
I checked the time zone settings, the system clock and all seem correct. I have a rule that is supposed to turn off access to the Internet at 11:55pm. However, the rule gets executed at 10:55pm.
This was happening on my first WRT610N which was also dropping network connections. So, I returned that unit and got a replacement.
The new unit does not drop connections but has the same timing problem.  The only solution I have found is to change the time zone to the next one that is 1 hour behind my time zone.
Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this same situation.

My ISP is on the same town as I am. The information they are supplying appears to be correct as my WRT54G uses the same information and its rules execute properly.
I think there is a problem with the WRT610N. My solution is temporary I hope that Linksys will fix this problem.

  • WRTU54G-TM Slow Setup Page and HTML Error on Access Restrictions Page

I have a WRTU54G-TM Wireless Router.  It has v1.00.21 firmware and I have done a reset with no solution.  Everything seems to work, except the setup pages load very, very, very slow.  Also in Internet explorer I get an HTML error on the access restrictions page. Resets don't help.  The router did not have this issue until about a month ago that I recall.  I can see on the access restrictions page the gray shading is all lined up except at the bottom on the page, like ther is some sort of issue in the html within the router.
One more problem, after I reset the router the saved config file I made would not change the default settings back, I had an older saved config file also, it would not work either.
Is this an issue with this firmware version?   Any one else see this?

Are you getting the same problem with another computer...?
Try using different computer and check if you are getting the same problem or not...If yes then,I would suggest you to re-flash/upgrade the router's firmware, reset the router and re-configure it from scratch..Do not use the save config file.

  • Access restriction in Universe

    Hi All,
In our environment we have 2 domain (US and Europe) and most of the user have id created for both the domain. We have 2 identical databases one in US and other in Europe. US database holds US information and Europe holds Europe data.
In our BO environment we have set the ad groups to create new id for each user Alias i.e if the user abcd has access in both US and Europe domain BO creates 2 separate ids for each domain (bo internally creates abcd and abcd0). We have only one universe and set of reports which has connection switching based on the domain user logs into BO (access restriction at connection level). This works absolutely fine, switches database connection depending on the domain user logs in.
Now we are hearing from our users that they can access the personal reports created under Europe login in US login (this because users has abcd and abcd0). So we decided to create enterprise id and alias the users from AD group (abcd --> alias AD abcd), if we do this the change the connection swap is not happening as the BOUSER always returns abcd as user and universe restriction is only picking the default connection.
    Thanks
    Srinivas

  • Session and Access Restriction

    Hi:
I have this problem with access restriction. I was trying to build a "secure" site with sessions where users are able to login and access secure webpages upon successful login. And these webpages are not available as soon as the user session expires or terminated. However, from time to time, these web pages are still accessible after logging out by pressing "back" button on the browser or book-marking these pages.
I noticed that Hotmail and old Yahoo mail system have the same problem as the one that I have just described.
I am not using https or virtual host or anythind like that, because I didn't have the resource. It is supposed to be a Basic Authentication (login/password) scheme.
Could any one light me some fresh ideas?
    Thanks
    Tian Lei Xia ":)

To avoid the bookmarking problem, set a session attribute with the login details.
    Once they login:
    if(request.getParameter("username")!=null)
         session.setAttribute("username","personA");
    if(session.getAttribute("username")==null)
         //don't display the page
    else
//show them the pageThis is a very basic technique and there are other ways of doing this. As for logging out then the session should just be invalidated.
An alternative would be to use the security features of the web deployment descriptor and get the web container to handle the sessions for you (See servlet API specs 2.3 for more details).
    Good luck,
    Anthony

  • Access Restrictions - Blocked Applications does not save

Under the Access Restrictions section it is possible to Block Applications.
I enter a name for the application, the port range (from and to) and whether it is TCP, UDP or both. I then hit ADD which adds the application to the list of Blocked Applications in the box above. I then scroll down thru that box to find the App and [>>] add it to the Blocked List. I then hit SAVE SETTINGS
Upon returning to the policy and the Blocked Apps list the record I just created is nowhere to be found. Not in the Blocked List or under Applications.
    What gives ???

    Wireless-N Gigabit Router
    Model: WRT310N
    Firmware Version: v1.0.06
    All PCs run VISTA
I don't see how a HARD RESET and POWER RECYCLE creates a fix for this. All that does is reboot the existing firmware and causes me to have to reenter all the router and security settings. The documentation for the lastest firmware (version Ver.1.0.9 build 4 12/11/2009) and the previous upgrade (1.0.07 build 14) does not include references to a fix for this problem. Has this been identified before and what firmware version is the fix included in ?
I have held off performing the 1.0.9 firmware upgrade as I have no confidence that this will fix this problem.

  • Access Restrictions

I just upgraded my firmware for my router to the lates and my access restictions no longer function like they did under my old firmware (wrt54g v2.2)
currently I have my access restrictions set up like this
    1 allow ip:100 24/7
2 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
3 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
problem is ip:101 cannot connect to any website even those who donot match keywords or specificly blocked websites
    so I tried:
    1 allow ip:100 24/7
    2 allow ip:101 24/7
3 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
4 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
ip:101 now has full unresrticted access
    so I tried:
    1 disabled
    2 disabled
3 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
4 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
    both 100/101 cannot connect
I set up the restrictions the way I was told to ... premissions before denys... I can't figure out why it's not working or how to get the access resctictions to work properly again... and of course I cant seem to get my old firmware back....so how do I set my access restrictions so ip 100 has full access and ip 101 is restricted from the websites I want and the keywords?

What is going on and why is Linksys not fixing this problem?? I was told to buy the WRT54GL model and that everything would be great with Access Restrictions. But much to my disappointment, it is the same problem as my other model. It actually worked when I first powered up the Router and entered the restriction (I am doing a VERY simple restriction of myspace.com) but after about an hour or so, the whole access restriction thing seemed to be ignored, no matter how many times I deleted the rule and re-entered it. Why can't they fix this!!!???

  • Machine Access Restriction Timeout

    Hi Community,
we use  Anyconnect Client for Machine Authentication. Authentication is for  WLAN done by WLC that asks ACS5.3 that uses Active Directory as the identity store. You have enabled Machine Authentication and Machine  Access Restrictions (MAR) with an Aging time of 2160 hours (90days).
Problem  appears if user Hibernate or ACS is reloaded and machine Authentication  timer expired. User need to Logout and wait or reboot that machine  authenticates and then user can login again.
ACS logs:"ACS has not been able to confirm previous successful machine authentication for user in Active Directory"
Somebody mentined ther is a hiddeen feature in Anyconnect that allows machine authentication while user is logged in to the machine. Somebody know how to enable this?
    Thank you.

    After further troubleshooting,
The machine itself is always on wireless
But as for the username, most of the users says it's just used for wireless. Some users says they use their usernames on wired pc, but the wired pc should have a different mac so it should be the issue
The machine authentication period is 6 months so it should not get expired from the ACS..
but somehow when the clients get disconnected, somehow they can't reconnect since the ACS asks for another machine authentication
the ACS logs then show the error message..
Is there any way to see the machine authentication cache in the ACS?

  • Setting time access restrictions

I'd like to use time access restrictions to allow access from 7AM to 1AM; but software won't allow.  Am I missing something or is it that inflexible?  I used to be able to do this without a problem with my Cisco router.

    Did you try this?
Develop one rule for access everyday between 7 AM and 11:59 PM
Develop a second rule for access everyday between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM
Works fine. There will be no break in the connection.
