Access Restrictions - Blocking 1 site

Has anyone gotten this to work?
I have it setup and it does not block sites.
I've Googled this, and it seems like no one has gotten this to work.
Router WRT54GL
I have everything set according to the directions.
Thanks

Which website you are trying to Block on the Linksys router. Try to block that website using that website IP address or else you can do it by using a Host Name. I think this might solve your problem.

  • Access Restrictions - Blocked Applications does not save

Under the Access Restrictions section it is possible to Block Applications.
I enter a name for the application, the port range (from and to) and whether it is TCP, UDP or both. I then hit ADD which adds the application to the list of Blocked Applications in the box above. I then scroll down thru that box to find the App and [>>] add it to the Blocked List. I then hit SAVE SETTINGS
Upon returning to the policy and the Blocked Apps list the record I just created is nowhere to be found. Not in the Blocked List or under Applications.
    What gives ???

    Wireless-N Gigabit Router
    Model: WRT310N
    Firmware Version: v1.0.06
    All PCs run VISTA
I don't see how a HARD RESET and POWER RECYCLE creates a fix for this. All that does is reboot the existing firmware and causes me to have to reenter all the router and security settings. The documentation for the lastest firmware (version Ver.1.0.9 build 4 12/11/2009) and the previous upgrade (1.0.07 build 14) does not include references to a fix for this problem. Has this been identified before and what firmware version is the fix included in ?
I have held off performing the 1.0.9 firmware upgrade as I have no confidence that this will fix this problem.

  • Customer login access restricted to one site?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to test the customer login access and I found something troubling.  When giving access to more than one site I receive, "Username is in use by customer: John Fakename."  What happens if my clients have more than one location?  Is there a way around this?  Please let me know.  Thanks!

This may be a bit of longshot, but if your customer uses or is willing to use gmail (or google apps email) you could assign email addreses of [email protected] and [email protected] and [email protected]  all the emails would go to the same inbox and can be assigned ad hoc, but the onplus system should recognize them as unique email addresses.
I have used this method to get around similar restrictions.  Here is some more detailed info:

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • WRT160Nv3 problem with blocking traffic using Access Restrictions

    Hi.
I want something quite simple. Block Youtube. I go into "Access Restrictions", choose a name for policy 1, enable it, choose the pc from the pc list, but then...
if a click Deny, all other options will be disabled (greyed out, can't click nor write on them).
Therefore, I can't put the urls I want (youtube).
I tried writing the url with "allow" and then change it to "deny" but it will block ALL traffic.
    No good.
So, how do I make a new policy just to block this one URL?
Is it normal that when I click and choose "Deny" everything gets disabled afterwards?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Leo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

for internet access policy DENY means to restrict internet access during specified days and hours. this will block ALL internet traffic for the said schedule. website blocking by URL, blocking by means of keyword and blocking applications would then be NOT AVAILABLE as the computers would not have internet access to begin with if you have such a policy disabled.
for your case, you may want to try to set restriction to ALLOW internet access then specify youtube.com under Website Blocking by URL. this would allow computers to have access to the internet all the time (if you have the schedule set to EVERYDAY) or during specific days and hours but NOT have access to youtube.

  • Customizing blocking screen by Access Restriction of Linksys router

    Hi,
I've recently deployed the Access Restriction of my linksys rounter and it works fine. When I try visiting the website which I've set to be blocked, a screen with the message  "Website blocked by Linksys Firewall" is shown.
May I know how I can change this screen to another screen or change the message to another message (say something like "the website has expired") instead?

That would take a change to the firmware...not possible with the stock firmware. If your router supports 3rd party firmware (don't know as you didn't provide a model) you may be able to work around it, but it would take some fairly in-depth Linux know how.....

  • Access Restrictions

I just upgraded my firmware for my router to the lates and my access restictions no longer function like they did under my old firmware (wrt54g v2.2)
currently I have my access restrictions set up like this
    1 allow ip:100 24/7
2 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
3 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
problem is ip:101 cannot connect to any website even those who donot match keywords or specificly blocked websites
    so I tried:
    1 allow ip:100 24/7
    2 allow ip:101 24/7
3 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
4 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
ip:101 now has full unresrticted access
    so I tried:
    1 disabled
    2 disabled
3 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
4 allow ip:101 24/7 with keyword restrictions and web sites blocked
    both 100/101 cannot connect
I set up the restrictions the way I was told to ... premissions before denys... I can't figure out why it's not working or how to get the access resctictions to work properly again... and of course I cant seem to get my old firmware back....so how do I set my access restrictions so ip 100 has full access and ip 101 is restricted from the websites I want and the keywords?

What is going on and why is Linksys not fixing this problem?? I was told to buy the WRT54GL model and that everything would be great with Access Restrictions. But much to my disappointment, it is the same problem as my other model. It actually worked when I first powered up the Router and entered the restriction (I am doing a VERY simple restriction of myspace.com) but after about an hour or so, the whole access restriction thing seemed to be ignored, no matter how many times I deleted the rule and re-entered it. Why can't they fix this!!!???

  • WRT54G Scheduled access restrictions

Sorry if it's a duplicate but I didn't find an answer.
I have WRT54G  Firmware 1.02.8; PCs- windows different versions.
I want to block some sites on weekdays 3-8 pm.
I setup policy 1 "Allow all" which allows full access alwais, for everybody
then Policy 2 "No youtube"; List of PCs: set; Allow; Days: Mon-Fr; Times: 3pm-8pm; Website blocking: www.youtube.com
policy 10 "Allow all"  full access alwais, for everybody
Within that time window 3pm-8pm it works as expected: ypoutube gets "Connection was reset", other sites are fine.
however outside of that time nobody can access ANY web sites getting timeouts.
    Any idea?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately no luck   No access outside the window.
It looks like it is taking most restrictive policy possible and since there is policy exists and nothing is saying access allowed outside my window it is blocking me.
    Any ideas of workaround?
    Thanks.

  • WRT120N v1.0.07 Access Restriction Problem

My Wireless-N Home Router WRT120N with version 1.0.07 seems to have a problem blocking Sites through scheduling with Access Restriction "Allow" ...
I notice that... when I enable access restriction, with policy and some range of computers connecting to my router  , and set it to "allow" from "monday - friday" from  "8am-6pm" .. with a purpose of blocking some social networking sites, example facebook, It works perfectly fine. But when the "scheduled" time comes ( before 8am and after 6pm ).. I cannot access the internet.. router is working, it detects my modem.. but no internet connection.
It always happen before and after the "scheduled time" before the configured access restriction takes over.  I have to disable the Access Restriction to continue our internet access.

In this case, I would like to ask whether you have upgraded the firmware of the router yourself? If yes, did you reset and reconfigure the router after the firmware upgrade? If you haven't, then I would recommend you to reset and reconfigure the router. • Setup more than one policy in one day using Access Restriction

Anyone can tell me how to set up two policys in one day using Access Restriction ?
    For example:
For Weekdays, before 6pm, no restriction to use internet. after 6pm, internet ok, but certain web site or ports need to be blocked.
I can set up policy for after 6pm but then before 6pm, the router consider no-internet access period.
    Any advise ?

what you just need to do is to set the policy to allow from 6PM upto the time you wanted your router to give internet access... and just set the status to enable.. type in the LAN mac adress of your router in the edit PC list, then save the settings

  • WRT160N Access Restrictions

I have a WRT160N version 1 running Firmware Version: v1.02.2.  It operates very smoothly and reliability but I cannot seem to get Access Restrictions working.  I get the dropdown of 1 () through 10() for the Access policy but after I name it in the "Enter Policy Name:" field, I get an error that says: "You must input a Service Name."  I honestly don't know what it is asking.  Is there some other field that I need to fill out before Access Restrictions will work?
Just a bit more info:  I am running WEP 128 with MAC filtering.  As I said, normal operation is fine, but I need to restrict the Internet access of a single MAC address.

I'm going nuts with this .. The access restriction is not working on my wrt16n v2.0.02 build 015 May 26, 2009
I simply have created a policy to block msn.com .. here are the steps I did ...
    1- Name the policy BlockMSN.
2- Added the MAC address in the list to be blocked ..
    3- Click on Enabled
4- Type in the URL http://www.msn.com
5- Type in the key words msn.
6- Unchecked everyday and just selected Monday.
7- Unchecked all day, and selected the time slot between 9:00AM and 9:45AM ...
8- Click on Save (it was around 9:40 AM on Monday.).
Tried to open the msn website and rightfully so it was blocked ... I Tried yahoo and cnn and they both  opened ..
However when the time changed to 9:50 AM, I expected that I would be able to open the MSN site, however that site remained blocked despite the fact I was outside the window of my policy.
What am I doing wrong ??? also this forum doesn't allow you to upload pictures (I created a screen shot of what I have done but could not upload it.)

  • WRT54GS 1.1 Access restrictions

I have a WRT54GS 1.1, firmware 4.71.1, and cannot block sites. I can create DENY rules to selectively block my kids, but must set up 2 rules for each MAC address, one to block 1200-0600 and another to block 9PM-1155PM, leaving 6AM-9PM open for the internet. Problem is, by having to use DENY rules, I cant block sites by URL or keyword - that only works on ALLOW rules. If I make a generic ALLOW rule, the URL blocking works, but none of the DENY rules then work, allowing internet access 24/7. I tried a generic ALLOW, 24hrs, and named all MAC addresses. This was followed by specific DENY's, by MAC, to filter. The ALLOW rule was the only rule being used - all others stop. Help?

Policies are evaluated from the top down, i.e. it starts with the first and continues from there. For each policy it is checked whether the time of day matches and if the IP address/MAC address is in the list of pcs. If a policy matches it is evaluated, i.e. either it denys the traffic for deny policies or it allows the traffic for allow policies. If you have configured URL/keyword blocking those are excepted in allow policies.
The important thing: with the first matching policy the processing ends! No other policies are evaluated. If you have a allow all policy with 24/7 time and some computers listed this will be the only policy which will be evaluated for those computers.
Thus to use URL blocking from 0600-2100 and to block all internet the rest of time you should be able to use two policies:
    1. allow traffic 0600-2100 for listed PCs blocking certain URLs
    2. deny all traffic at any time for listed PCs.
This allows full internet to all non-listed PCs. It blocks all traffic on listed PCs outside the 0600-2100 time. It allows internet traffic from 0600-2100 except for URLs listed.
This should work. Unfortunately, the access restrictions implementation varies between routers and has a long history of flaws. Thus no guarantee that it will work this way. Still, the basic rule remains the only the highest matching policy gets evaluated and no other.

  • Access restrictions - Any documentation or suggestions?

I want set up fairly simple internet access rules - but it's just not working. I cant find any documentation beyond the very basics in the manual. Can someone help me with the logic behind defining overlapping Access Restriction rules?
I'm assuming the restrictions work in the same way for all the simple wireless routers - but for the record I have a WRT54GC V2, firmware 1.00.7. I think that's the latest - cant find any upgrades to the firmware.
I can set up simple rules - allow/restrict a pc or group by MAC or IP address. That is documented, and easy. The problem comes when I try to combine rules.
Say I want a PC to have internet access 9 - 5, Mon to Fri, but allow facebook only between 1 - 2 pm on those days.
I set up the first rule to Allow 9 - 5 by MAC address and it works. I set up another rule for the same MAC address to Allow 1 -2pm , but block facebook.com. During that period (1 - 2pm) internet access works, and Facebook delivers a black screen "Blocked by Linksys Router" - As expected.
But at 2.01pm when the second rule is no longer active - all internet access stops. All sites just time out.
I've also tried defining 3 rules:  9am to 1pm, 1 - 2, and 2 -5pm, but that has the same result. All pages fail to load.
I've been playing with this for a while trying global DENY rules and adding ALLOW exceptions, changing the order I create the rules, etc - but I just cant make it work.
Any suggestions? am I missing something simple? or is it just a feature that does not work?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've tried it but no success. I have learned something interesting though:
With this hardware/firmware Wrtg54c v2.0 / Firmware 1.00.7 you cannot have 2 enabled ALLOW rules that apply to the same MAC address. If you try then ALL internet access for that device is blocked.
I guess that if you allow one time slot it aUtomatically denies everything else, and the deny overrides any second Allow you create. Like I say - this is a guess because in there is no documentation.
It is possible to have an ADD and a DENY rule for one device.  ie you can ALLOW internet access  6am to 11pm  and have a second rule to DENY access between 5 - 6 pm.  This seem to work for my limited testing.
I did want to test one rule applying to IP address range and another to a MAC address - and then I discovered that when you use the 'Assign Static IP' function - that also does not work. ie - give it a MAC address and tell the DHCP function to always assign it a specific IP has no effect.  Whether the IP is in the normal DHCP range or outside of it seems to make no difference.
Verily I say unto you "This firmware is a buggy".

  • WRT54GS Access Restrictions

    I have a WRT54GS v7.2 with firmware version v7.2.06 build 002, Capture(month.num4)Apr. 30, 2008.
I have been asked to allow internet access, but restrict access to social networking sites (facebook and twitter) except during a couple of time windows each day to improve workday productivity. Facebook & Twitter are to be allowed M-F during 8:40AM-9:05AM, 1:30-2:00PM and 8:00PM-11:55PM. Sounds simple enough, but I'm not having much luck.
I created a three policies that allow internet access, but block facebook.com & twitter.com:
    Policy 1: M-F 12:00 AM to 08:40 AM
    Policy 2: M-F 09:05 AM to 01:30 PM
    Policy 3: M-F 02:00 PM to 08:00 PM
Two PCs (both wireless connection) are listed by MAC address. I tested policy 3 (proper current time window). It works for one of the PCs, but totally blocks all internet access to the other. Any ideas?
Additionally, is it necessary to have full access policies in place for time periods other than those listed (i.e. 8:40AM-9:05A, 1:30P-2:00P & 8:00P-12:00A)? My thought is no rule => full access.
    Thanks in advance.
