Access the CE Address Book outside of CE

Hello all,
I have searched high and low and have not been able to find anything outside of CE that is capable of accessing the CE AB. In my search, I came across the Sun Portal AB channel and the CE Sync but neither of these fits our needs. Ideally, we would like to be able to access the AB using Thunderbird.
If anyone has dealt with this requirement in the past and has some experiences/solutions/disasters to share, please do.
Regards,
Kamil.

Ideally, we would like to be able to access the AB using Thunderbird.There is no plugin for Thunderbird that I am aware of that can access the private CE/Convergence address-book interface. The future plan is to move towards a more standardised mechanism for address-book (contacts) access, namely CardDAV. This however is still some time off.

  • Java access to the Windows Address Book

    Does anyone know of a way to access the Windows Address Book from within Java? I would assume that it's not built in, since it wouldn't be a very mobile feature, but I'm not after mobility here.

    I believe all of the system components, such as address book, have OLE interfaces. OLE is the native way Windows apps talk to eachother. You an develop OLE interface with JNI.

  • Sharing certain groups in address book rather than the whole address book

    Hi
    I haven't got server yet in our office but we are looking to do this. Currently we just share calendars and other bits and pieces but I'm looking to get server in place. Sharing the address book requires giving a user our iCloud password and letting them look at the address book as a whole. We really only want to share certain phone numbers like our company staff phone numbers rather than our financial clients and other sensitive contacts.
    Is it possible to only allow a "user" to access certain, or 1 group in address book rather than the whole address book library itself by using osx server
    Many thanks

    Hi Jaime,
    I just wanted to jump in here with a quick question... on Mac OS X Server my understanding was that with the open directory, you can't designate organizational groups for the ldap service. Without that ability, how are you limiting what ldap users can see?
    In our setup, our LDAP settings would be similar to
    cn=users,dc=example,dc=com
    What format would you use to say show only members of the group "examplegroup"?
    Thanks!

  • Accessing the global Address List using Java Outlook Connector

    Hi All,
    I have written a code to access the Global Address List using (Jar) in Java outlook Connector
    However i am able to retriev the name and email address of that employee only.
    I want the other details like location(particularly).
    Please help out.
    Thanks,
    Arijit.

    The scenario is i am an employee and i want to get information regarding other employees(name,location) which are stored in outlook through my java application(using JOC).Just a point of clarification, there is no actual java code in the Sun Outlook Connector. The use of Java with most of our products names is for marketing/branding purposes only.
    Now there are employees who are not stored in my address book or local contacts.For them when i try to read the GAL i can get only their name and email address.So the 'cn:' (name) and 'mail:' (email address) attributes are being provided by the directory for a GAL search.
    however if i try displaying their details using the JOC it comes with proper information through the outlook pop up but cannot read this data.As I said in my previous response, the data that the Sun Outlook Connector provides in the GAL view is determined by the user that the GAL binds to the directory server as, plus the restrictions that user has on the information the directory server will provide for GAL searches/queries.
    This bind user is usually different from the 'super-user' bind user that UWC/Communications Express uses which is why you may see more information in UWC/CE compared to in the GAL in Outlook.
    Therefore you need to work with the Directory Server administrator to increase the information that the Sun Outlook Connector user is able to see.

    Natively on iPad you can not send to groups.  There apps in the App Store which you can get for this.  Here is one that may work for your needs:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mailshot-group-email-done/id410279354?mt=8

  • Address Book - two users sharing the same address book

    My wife and I have separate accounts on the same mac. How can she share access to my address book. I tried to copy it over to a new directory in the same path ie, users>name>library>applicationsupport>addressbook - but this didn't work and caused the dreaded spinning icon.

  • How can I export a group email address to a .csv file. I can export the whole address book but it looses the group listings.

    I have an address book in Thunderbird and want to export one group listing to a .csv file. I couldn't find a way of exporting one group so exported the whole address book then opened the .csv file and was going to remove the all addresses except the group but the group name was not in the file.
    Is it possible to export the group listing.
    Thanks

    Open Address Book, select the mailing list in the left pane, then Tools/Export, select csv (comma separated) format, name the file, click Save.

    I asked the same question at the Apple Genius Bar a week or so ago and they said there was no way to change it.  I am with you - do not like this new format at all and would love it if Apple would offer both -maybe when they do an "fix" next?  This was one change in Lion that should not have been made from Snow Leopard.  I am really sorry I upgraded at this point.

  • When renaming an address book through properties, I can no longer see the new address book in my list. Where did it go?

    I have about 30 different address books. Some of them where old but i didn't want to delete them. I no longer wanted them at the top of my list so I went to properties and added "z-" to the folder name to have them at the bottom of the list. Now I can't see the address books that I renamed. What happened to them and how do I get them back?

    Make hidden files and folders visible:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
    '''First locate all address book filenames in thunderbird.'''
    * In Thunderbird:
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'show folder' button
    a new window opens.
    If you were going to alter anything you would need to close Thunderbird, but on this occasion you are just looking for information.
    * organise the list by 'Type'
    * look for all files that have MAB File type
    each file will have a .mab extension and these are the address books.
    Two address books are default address books called:
    abook.mab = Personal Address Book
    history.mab = Collected Addresses.
    Other addressbooks maybe called eg: abook-1.mab
    * Make a list of all the address book.mab filenames. Careful.. as spelling is important.
    '''Now to check what filename = what desciption in config editor'''
    * In thunderbird:
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
    * click on 'config Editor' button
    it will tell you to be careful :)
    now to locate info for each address book.
    '''How to search for each address book using info gained from checking the Profile folder.'''
    In top search type: abook.mab
    you should see this line:
    ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; abook.mab
    notice the 'pab' in ldap_2.servers.'''pab'''.filename
    In top search type: pab
    you will now be able to locate:
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.description; Value = Personal Address Book
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.dirType; Value = 2
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.filename; Value = abook.mab
    * ldap_2.servers.pab.position; Value = 2
    Using the above method will identify which .mab file in profile uses what info in config Editor.
    '''You can do this same method to check to see if the 'Z addressbook name' is in the list and which .mab file is assigned to that description.'''
    In top search type the name you assigned: Z addressbook name
    it should return a line:
    * ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    make a note of the XXXX part in description
    In top search type: XXXX - whatever the actual description XXXX said to get the 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position'
    '''Please report back on results.'''
    Did you locate:
    eg: ldap_2.servers.XXXX.description; Value = Z addressbook name
    or was this still listed as old name without the Z part?
    Did you locate all of these 'description', 'dirType', 'filename' and 'position' for each of the missing address books?
    or were only some of these shown? Tell us what you found.
    Did you find that there were .mab files in Profile folder but they were missing in Config Editor or in Config Editor but not in Profile folder?
    Please state what was found. You can copy paste from the config editor.

  • How to transfer the whole address book from one no...

    Dear friend,
    Could you please advise me "how to transfer the whole address book from one nokia to another nokia phone via blue tooth connectivity. (move one by one is not convenience for my hundreds of contact.
    Thank and waiting for advice...
    victor

    If your phones have the built-in "Transfer" (sometimes called "Switch") application, try it.
    Otherwise, depending on the model(s) you can also copy all contacts to/from the memory card, and get them over that way.
    And you can also synchronize both programs to the same service (e.g., Outlook on a Windows PC using Nokia PC Suite).
    And newer versions of Nokia PC Suite can also be used to make a backup of one phone, and then restore to another.
    PC Suite you can find here: http://www.nokia.com/pcsuite

  • How can transfer Mac Outlook Contact files to the MacPro Address book?

    I tried the suggested three step process, ie, (1) Export Contacts from Outlook in txt formant, and (2) Open the txt file Excel and Save As in csv format, (3) Import the csv file into the MacPro Address book. However the Export from Outlook Contacts in txt results in a messed up file with data in random columns.  The Import into the Address book resulted in 21,000 plus entries (my Outlook Contacts had about 3000 plus).  Any solutions?

    Mac Outlook exports files in a .olm format. What you need is an .olm to the Apple format converter - here's such a tool - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/olm-converter-pro/id522796199?mt=12 = expensive but it gets pretty decent reviews.

  • How can I copy the Thunderbird Address Book from Windows to Ubuntu?

    I use Windows 8.1 on one Pc and Ubuntu 14.04 on the other.
    Thanks in advance for your help
    Best regards,
    Ep

    I think the best way is to export the required address books to LDIF files on the first machine and import those LDIF files on the second machine.
    Alternatively you can copy the the data *.mab files from one machine to the other. The two default address books are represented by abook.mab and history.mab and can be simply copied. Other user-defined address books will be named as abook1.mab etc and will need to be imported. I'd suggest MoreColumnsForAddressBook for this task.

  • "...cannot use the application "Address Book.app" with  'leopard.'...????

    I get the message: "You cannot use the application “Address Book.app” with this version of Mac OS X. "What does this mean, wat do I do? Do I lose my address book.?

    you can do the following to transfer your Tiger addressbookdata file to Leopard if none of your other countermeasures are working.
    Create a new folder and give it a name such as TigertoLeopard data or whatever;
    then drag your Tiger addressbook data file into that folder;
    add .abbu to the end of the name you gave that new folder;
    remember where you placed the folder and use Leopard Mail import command.
