I am at step one, or maybe step zero, of my first DPS project. I have installed the tools into InDesign, but I don't know where to access the Desktop Viewer.

Finder quits on clicking HD or trying to access the desktop in a Window

I noticed that after installing 10.5.3 that double clicking the HD Icon caused the finder the quit (and restart). Also, the same thing would happen if I tried to access the desktop in a finder window (by clicking on it in the left pane). No big deal, I thought it would be fixed in 10.5.4. Nope, same problem. I tried Disk Utility both from the machine HD and from the Installation Disk. Nothing found wrong either way. To be safe I installed the 10.5.4 combo update, no help. Still nothing really to worry about. Then I noticed that a couple of folders had disappeared from my desktop (which I can see). I tried to use Time Machine to retrieve them. Much the same problem, If I try to access the desktop on Time Machine both Time Machine and the Finder quit. These folders are not all that important, but at this point I am getting worried. All help appreciated.
(This is on a 20" iMac G5)

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. It has taken me a long time to reply because, all though doing what you suggested almost worked, the failure was/is hard to "pin down.
So it worked, as long as I kept all windows in Icon view. If I changed any windows to List View that eventually caused the problem to reoccur. If you have changed some of the windows to List View,then (double) click on the Hard Drive, the finder quits and then activates again showing the preferences finder window in List View". If you change the preferences window to Icon View than all is "good" again. Now you can open the HD without the finder quiting and it is displayed in Icon View. From that window you can now use the left pane to get the desktop in a finder window in Icons. Now, and only in Icon View, you can get Time Machine to work and doing so I was able to recover the two folders I had lost (and three photos from the desktop I did not realize that I had lost).
I also created another administrator user and after signing on there I found much the same strange behavior with one additional wrinkle. The wrinkle was that although you could open the HD in Icon View, if you changed to List View, nothing was there.
So in summary, I can do what I need but the machine is still a little "screwy." If you have any further suggestions I will certainly try them.

Is it possible to remotely access the desktop in OS9.1 from a newer G5 mac?

I have an old 7600 Powermac running OS9.1 and several peripherals on the SCSI bus. I would like to be able to access this machine and the peripherals via my newer G5 machine. So I'm wondering if its possible to remotely access the desktop on the OS9.1 machine with the existing software or do I need some type of network administrator software? Thx in advance!

Yes, there are several remote access apps in the app store. LogMeIn, TeamViewer, and others.

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

If you get the basics right (1,2 & 3) DW should be very easy to follow and so would any other authoring software. End of the day, DW is only an application to author with and not a language/ code in itself - it's on the last of my list.

How to get the desktop view all the time in google it always swithches back to mobile view

every time I start up Google email it goes to mobile view even if I switch it to desktop view.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The Theme we are using now, does not show content in the navigation panel.
I now need to change the Desktop rules, but cannot access it because it is not there...
Is there a way around this problem?
Can I change the navigation panel so that it displays the content again (how)?
Is there a direct link to the Desktop rules, that I can enter in the url?

How to retrieve a window that is mostly out of the desktop view?

General:
I have a window that is only partially visible because it's in the upper right corner of my desktop. I haven't been able to retrieve it.
Detail:
I have an application that I launch frequently and use with no problem.
The application has a popup that is invoked by me. This popup window was at some point or another dragged to the upper most corner of my desktop so that the title bar is not even visible anymore. Because of this, i cannot drag and retrieve this window. This is my problem, this child window has been pretty much orphaned to this upper section and can't be pulled back to a usable region.
My desktop resolution is set to 1920x1200 and hitting F5 to show all apps only momentarily pulls it to the center of my desktop.
Uninstalling and re-installing this application has not helped.
Any ideas or suggestions?

This of course shouldn't happen - it shouldn't be possible to move the window above the screen.
Possible workaround:
Ensure that the rogue window is the frontmost in the application.
Open the AppleScript Editor, and paste the following into it:
tell application "XXXXX"
activate
set the bounds of window 1 to {4, 93, 800, 500}
end tell
Enter the name of the application as it appears on the application's icon where I have XXXXX
Press the 'run' button
or save the script as an application (and keep in case it happens again!)

Application no longer allowed access to the desktop in Mavericks

HI I have a particularly irritating problem. For a while now any application that attempts to access the desktop upon initial startup or to save a file to it will hang requiring a force quit from the finder. Installations go without a hitch. This problem only appears when apps either default to the desktop on first run or when they are directed to save a file from them to the desktop. Drag and drop operations from local folders like documents and downloads or external drives or folders to the desktop have to problem doing so. I have run repair permissions on my main drive.

Any Ideas on what to do so I can get functionality back on my system. Currently I am on a late 2007 iMac extreme edition 2.88gighertz model with 4 gigs of ram. I am running the latest updates to Mavericks. Overall its not a problem with programs that I can set or open with no preference to start but there are some programs that default to the desktop upon initial startup. These are effectively unusable at present. Thanks in advance for the help.

How do I deselect the box "open internet files on the desktop", to allow me to open tiles only in METRO view?

At some point or another I clicked "allow" for my firefox to cease opening windows in the app view of my Microsoft Surface Pro. They currently are only opening on the desktop view. How do i switch this back to the app view?

I'm sorry, but I tried what you said, but it did not work and I dont see how changing the pop-up configuration should affect my use of the firefox app. However, i do not understand much at all about this !
Let me rephrase my problem: even from the tiled start screen, if i click on the app icon, it brings me back to my desktop. I much prefer the app version of fire fox. The desktop view is hard to read because everything is tiny and i cant swipe to change between firefox screens.
Does this make sense at all?
With internet explorer it was as simple as Settings>internet options>programs> uncheck the box titled "open internet explorer tiles on desktop".

I reinstalled the system but the problem is in the preferences of my user account, I tried with another userand this error disappears. I moved several preference files to the desktop and I rebooted to be recreatedwith default values but not solved.
It's funny, because it only affects the desktop features (F11) and all windows (F9), the rest works perfectly.My system version is 10.6.8

Overlayeffect work in Desktop viewer = always work in the tablet?

I wait for the new viewer for iPad, supporting the new folio builder. So now i only work with the Desktop viewer.
The "object state slideshow", with swipe-effect is the overlay-effect i have created.
In some of the state, i have GROUPED 2 objects, for example 1 product + 1 textfield with the productname.
I work great in the desktop viewer.
Is it going to work in the viewer on the iPad is my question?

To state whether or not your content will run properly has many factors to consider. Its a little hard to do it from a text description. I will say, issues that commonly occur when testing between the Desktop preview and the Ipad Content viewer usually surround memory consumption. Since the ipad is a mobile device it doesn't have the same amount of memory and CPU power that your computer would have. If you remember to keep the file formats correct and use appropriate compression you should be okay. I suggest reading up the documentation on "Best Practices on creating overlays" and just wait for the new Content viewer to get approved.

No data found in the discoverer Viewer from Apps responsabiltiy

We have built a new responsibility for the discoverer reports, that is we directly access the discoverer viewer from the separate responsibility,all the report that shared with the users can be viewed from this responsibility,
but when the user tries to run the report it is saying no data found.but for example if the user is trying to run the hrms report from this discoverer reasonability he get no data found but if we attach the function to the HRMS manager menu and try to access the report from the HRMS manager responsabilty we are able to get the data.
We did the same setup in dev and test.in dev it is working very fine but in test we are not able to see the records in the report if we try to access.

Hi,
I'm not 100% familiar with HR security, but sounds like profile option setup related to security - perhaps Business Group or Initialization SQL Statement - Oracle / Custom? Check the profile options set for the HRMS Manager responsibility and setup the same for your new responsibility.

Sharepoint 2010: prevent users from editing a list in the datasheet view

Hi,
I have a sharepoint 2010 list that I need to prevent users to edit from the datasheet view. This is because I have edited the add item form on sharepoint designer and included some custom code. Moreover, I need to allow the users to view the list in datasheet
view to make use of the datasheet custom filter view feature which is not available in the standard view. So I need users to access the datasheet view of the list in read mode only but be able to edit the list in standard view only. Is this possible? How?

Maybe this helps...I found some users having the problem that the list WAS read only in datasheet view...this is a list of reasons why this could happen:
Certain columns, such as Created By and Modified, are always read-only. Values for these columns are entered automatically.
The changes you made to the selected row or column have been submitted to the server. If there is no conflict or error, you will be able to edit the row or column after the changes have been saved.
There is an unresolved conflict or error in the selected row or column. Resolve the conflict or error before attempting to edit the selected row or column.
The list is set up to require content approval, and you are viewing the list in the All Items view.
In the My Submissions view of a list that requires content approval, the
Approval Status and Comment column are read-only. Only a user with Manage Lists right can edit these two columns.
Attachments are read-only in a list that requires content approval. You cannot view or edit attachments in any of the views.
The document in the current row has been checked out by a user. You cannot edit the columns in the row until the user checks the document in.
You do not have permission to edit the column or row. Contact the list author for more information.
