Access Time Capsule Disk from Linux Fedora

From my Linux Fedora, I am connected to the main wireless network for the TC. When I go to "Browse Network", I can see 2 destinations named M's TC (FileSharing), when I try to access the first one it opens but has no content at all! While the other one gives an error:
Could not dispaly "Ms-TC.local (afp)"
The file is of an unknown type
Do you know how can I access the TC disk from Fedora?
Thanks.

I use FileBrowser app. It works. Their latest version is much easier to configure than earlier versions. You need to turn file sharing on and SMB on your time capsule disk.
I use the time capsule disk to store a few files which I never want to be on my iPhone or iPad, but do want access to them. They are not backed up on the time capsule but since they also exist on my Mac, they are backed up from there.

  • Cannot Access Time Capsule Disk from Boot Camp

    Hi,
I've set up a Time Capsule and I've been able to read and write from:
    1) My MacBook Pro and another MacBook
    2) A Windows XP (SP3) PC connected by Ethernet
3 )A Dell Laptop running Windows XP (wirelessly)
I can copy files to and from the disk and perform Time Machine Backups (on the Macs).
However, I have not been able to even connect to the disk (but I can use the internet normally) on the Time Capsule on my MacBook Pro Boot Camp Windows XP SP3. I can connect wirelessly and surf the net on the 5 Ghz (and 2.4 Ghz) (non-public/Guest Shared) network. (The password I entered to access the disk are the same on all machines listed, which was not confused with the Network Password) Does anyone face such a problem or know the cause/fix?
    Thank You in advance.

  • Access Time Capsule disk from iOS device (iPad, iPhone)

My intended goal is to use Time Capsule disk as cloud replacement for MobileMe iDisk which is being discontinued in June.
I've done Time Capsule 7.6.1 update with iCloud support, entered my iCloud account settings, and authorized disk access via WAN. Everything appears to be configured properly as I can access my Time Capsule disk on Mac computers from outside my home network. How do I access this disk on iPhone and iPad?

  • Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows 7

I have a Time Capsule 2TB which serves several Macs and a PC running Windows 7. I was able to access the disk from Windows 7 to share files. My PC suddenly stopped seeing the disk - although the Windows 7 machine can still access the web through the Time Capsule.
When I run the AirPort Utility through Windows 7 it is unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I can however see the Time Capsule and the disk when I 'Configure other...' and enter the IP address manually, but still cannot access it.
I am using Airport Utility version 6.2
I thought it might be an issue with the Time Capsule and bought a new one but encountered exactly the same problem.
I read that turning 'Search' off in Windows 7 might solve the problem. I tried doing that but still cannot find any AirPort wireless devices.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should be using the airport utility from windows .. not 6.2 which is only a Mac version AFAIK.
Did your windows suddenly decide spontaneously that it is now in work or public network.. instead of home.. windows does this at random intervals to make life exciting for all users. Drag it home.. and make it sit there.
No go, then shut down all the firewalls.
If your problem coincided with the recent upgrade to 7.6.3 firmware.. which would not surprise me, downgrade to 7.6.1 or earier.

  • Accessing Time Capsule disk from Windows -- What's the status?

    Hi,
I've seen much confusion about this problem, and nothing official from Apple...
What I know is that my TC with firmware 7.3.2 had no problems.
Both 7.4.1 and 7.4.2 instead do not allow windows pcs to mount the drive.
    1) is there any known workaround?
    2) does it depend on the TC settings?
thanks in advance for the clarification

  • Problems accessing Time Capsule disk on Desktop

I'm having problems connecting to my Time Capsule (used as a NAS shared disk) from my Snow Leopard machine. (If it makes any difference) I don't use it for Time Machine backups.
If I click on the Time Capsule in Shared in Finder's sidebar it will access the disk and I can access the files on it OK. If I click on the Time Capsule icon on the desktop I get the following error message:
The alias "Time Capsule" can't be opened because the original item can't be found.
The only thing on the Desktop is the Time Capsule icon as a mounted disk, not an alias of it.
I also get this error message if I open a Finder window and go to Computer (the very top icon) in the sidebar and then try to open Time Capsule from there. I've also noticed that I can't drag the Time Capsule share from the desktop or Finder window into the Devices section of the Finder sidebar. It won't let me do this.
I have a Mac mini running Leopard and don't experience any of these problems. I can also drag the Time Capsule share from the desktop or Finder window into the Devices section of the Finder sidebar without any problems.
Is this a Snow Leopard bug? If not can anyone help?

I'm having the same problem since upgrading the Snow Leopard. There's another thread that discusses a possible solution but is not yet solved: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10115033

  • MacBook Air 11" can't access Time Capsule Disk

    Hi:
I have two Minis, a MPB 13" and a MBA 11" connected to my Time Capsule. My MBP and the two Minis can access the Time Capsule disk with no problem. It's a different story for the MBA.
From the MBA, I can see my Time Capsule in Finder (Bonjour) and I can click on it, however the disk never appears. Clicking "connect as" doesn't do anything either. From Finder if I go "connect to server" and I type the IP address of my Time Capsule it connects without problems, but it won't connect with its name.
I am able to connect the disk on my other Macs from the MBA via Bonjour, just not the Time Capsule. As mentionned earlier, the Time Capsule disk is available from my other Macs and even from Windows.
I rebooted a few times and confirmed that the username/password are properly saved in the keychain of my MBA.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!

Are your other Macs connected via Wifi or ethernet? It sounds like some sort of network configuration issue. If they are connected via Wifi then I'd make sure the MBA has the same settings for it's network. Alternately I'd get rid of the keychain entry on the MBA and re-enter it to make sure it's correct. As a last resort I'd restart the Time Capsule and see if it makes a difference. I'm connecting a MBA to a Time Capsule so it should work.

  • Cannot access Time Capsule spasebundle from migration

Our time capsule is used to backup 3 Macs, yesterday our iBook power supply gave up the ghost after 3 years great service. Whilst we wait for the new one I was going to recover the account on to one of the other machines.
When I use migration assistant to try and recover the account I only see the good two machines and not the one I need to restore from. If I use finder to view the time capsule disk I can see the sparsebundle and it has the same permissions as the others.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Cheers

    Need a bit more info.
Now this is what happens when I plug it in:
Plug it into power?? The main router?? Sorry I am unclear what you are plugging it into.
It sounds like you have not done the setup.
The TC should be in bridge and plugged into the current modem router you have.. and powered on full time.
If you cannot access it via the utility, I strongly suggest you buy the apple usb to ethernet dongle.. which helps air people no end.. or use any other computer that has a real ethernet port.
Otherwise set to factory and start over. (this will not do anything to what you already have on the disk).
Hold in reset and power on the TC.. wait about 10sec until the front led rapidly flashes. .then you can connect the computer.. and do the setup.. choose bridge in the Network section of the utility and update the TC.
Then you can plug it into the main router and access it and internet at the same time.. either by TC wireless or the main modem wireless.
Please note. .Gen1 TC is only going to last very little time.. it is already well past the average lifespan.. many died at 2years.. most gone by 4years.. plan on storing nothing important on it.

  • Accessing time capsule disc from PC

Despite being able to access the time capsule via airport utility without problem on my windows XP PC and also successfully having set up my home network for my macbook, PC and iphone etc I cannot gain access to the time capsule's disk via the windows system tray applet. No matter how I set up the access through airport utility (time capsule password, guest account etc) when I try to log into it from PC it rejects them (error 1203). Any advice gratefully received as wanted to not only use it as back up for mac but also for wireless storage for PC. Cheers

I gave Apple support center a call, the support agent told me that since the MBP has no problem connecting to the TC, the problem could be lay on the PC. He told me that it could be WinXP has disconnect itself while the network drive is left idle.
I followed the route and disable the autodisconnect in the PC.
    What I did are:
    1. Go to command prompt.
    2. Type net config server /autodisconnect:1
    3. Exit from command prompt.
    4. Disable and enable the PC networking connection. Plug out and in the network cable, or disable and enable the wireless network.
I managed to get one of my WinXP PC to connect (map) and disconnect (unmap) several times to TC. I also tested by rebooting the PC several times (but I always disconnect/unmap the network drive first. Yet to try reboot without disconnecting the network drive). This work for my WinXP SP3 PC, but not the WinXP SP2 PC.
I am upgrading my WinXP SP2 to SP3 now and will do further test tomorrow.
You might want to try this route, and please share about your test result.
    Good luck.

  • Accessing Time Capsule backup from another Mac

My son's laptop failed, and I need to pull some files off of the time machine backup on our Time Capsule for him to use. Time Machine only lets me access MY backup. Is there any way, short of restoring his entire account onto my computer, to access individuals files for another user that are on the Time Capsule?
As an aside, this seems like a flaw in the way Time Machine works - there should be an easy option to access the directory for any data stored on the Time Capsule when used my multiple users.
    Thanks

  • Saving attachments to Time Capsule disk from mail.app

I'm in a small business enviroment where we use the Time Capsule for both backup and and as a shared drive.
But I'm having trouble saving attachments – pictures, worddocs etc, directly to the TC drive. If I save it to the desktop and then copy it to the TC drive everything is fine. Any suggestions ???
    I'm on a Macbook Pro OSX10.5.3

Yes, it is possible to do that.
There are downside to doing that.
First, anything moved to the Time Capsule can't be backed up so the data will not be protected.
Second, any data outside the backup makes it difficult for Time Machine to maintain free space for backups on the Time Capsule.
My suggestion is to get an external disk drive and plug it into either the Mac or Time Capsule and use that for your data storage.

  • Access time capsule remotely from windows 7 os. Please help!

I have enabled net/bios in the network prefs in windows but to no avail. It works fine from a vista os but I cannot seem to figure it out from windows 7. Will someone please help me. I cannot find it anywhere on the web. I am good at finding answers and this one has me stumped. THANK YOU!!!

The failure of the airport utility to find the TC suggests something more fundamental is wrong.
    1. Use ethernet. Plug the laptop directly into the TC. Make sure you have internet connection and wireless is off.
    2. In windows explorer type directly into the address bar the TC name or IP address.
    \\TCname or \\TCIPaddress
If both of them fail and you still have internet access then the issue is firewall.
    3. Test again with airport utility.
    4. Ensure that the PC is set to home location, not work or public. Turn off all internet security, not just the firewall you can see.. as there can be another you cannot see.
    5. If your laptop is setup for windows domain controller, then explain to your IT department you want to connect to peer to peer resources at home. It maybe blocked somehow.

  • How to access Time Capsule 2013 disk from Windows 7

I have seen several (older) threads that suggest that you can access the Time Capsule disk from Windows 7 using Windows Explorer and navigating to \\Time-Capsule-Name.  However, I have tried this repeatedly and just cannot get it to work.
Could this be a bug or unsupported in the latest 2013 Time Capsule?
In Airport Utility, under Disks > File Sharing, I have Enable File Sharing checked.  The workgroup is WORKGROUP.
The IP address is 192.168.1.4.  I am able to ping it successfully; I just cannot access it through Windows Explorer.
Am I missing something?  Please help!

Are you running homegroup on the PC..??
That should definitely be turned off!!
    Homegroup can mess things up.
I would try with ipv6 off but that might make no difference at all.. leave it set to local-link if it doesn't do anything.
There was issues when the Gen4 came out with security. Windows uses too high an encryption level..
    See info here.
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/changing-file-encryption-settings-on-a-win dows-7-h.pageCd-storyboard,pageNum-5.html
Change to 40 or 56 bit encyrption.
Unfortunately some of the controls you think you are setting on the TC are not really being set at all.. eg I doubt you are actually changing the workgroup.. if possible though you should have disk access set to lowest level .. device password and you should also turn on guest account to read and write.. that usually solved access for me in earlier TC .. I haven't bought an AC for the moment.. because.. well I believe I have done my time on the war front. I bled out already on the bleeding edge.. time for you to do it and I can reap the benefits on the second hardware revision and about the 10th firmware update.
Other things I would try if the above don't work.
Factory reset and start over.. you moved the IP of the TC and that is unwise.
Do not worry about the various settings.. do the factory reset.. in full isolation from the internet. ie TC plugged into the windows computer. Nothing else in either..
Now try at the default IP of the TC..
    \\10.0.1.1
Beyond that you need another computer to try or some device. iOS would be fine... in normal situation you would test other protocols, eg ftp but TC offers only SMB and AFP.. there are no AFP clients for windows that I have heard of.. you might have success if you boot the PC from a linux live cd.. it should be able to read AFP even if it cannot write to it. But the SMB is more important. If linux can access with SMB protocol and windows cannot.. the issue is windws OS.
Or iOS devices have some AFP file browsers available but again just test with SMB.. most file browsers for iOS use SMB.. if other devices can manage SMB protocol to open files on the TC then the finger points very clearly to the PC as the trouble.. on the other hand if nothing can access SMB then the TC is faulty and should be replaced.

  • How to remotely access Time Capsule using iCloud and firmware 7.6.1?

I have just applied the new Time Capsule 7.6.1 firmware that supposedly enables remote access to the drive via iCloud. However, how precise would this work?
I have read several other threads here and elsewhere but they either explain how to do this using MobileMe or DynDNS.
How precisely does iCloud now translate my internal IP to an external one and where do I access my drive in OSX when on the road?

Really pretty simple.  That's if you've got the Time Capsule and your Computer set up correctly.
    Time Capsule setup:
    1.    Open Airport Utility
1a.  Open Time Capsule Base Station tab
1b.  Put iCloud NAME in "Back to My Mac"
1c.  Enter Password, then wait for activation (less than 1 minute normally)
1d.  Open Time Capsule Disks tab
1e.  Check mark "Enable file sharing"
1f.   Check mark "Share disk over WAN"
    1h.  Password self explanitory
    Computer (Mac)
    1.   Open iCloud in System Preferences
    2.   Put a check mark on "Back to My Mac", wait for actication (less than 1 minute normally)
Connecting to Time Capsule Disk from you HOME network or outside your home network ((INTERNET))
In order to connect to Time Capsule Disk off your local (home) network you must have an internet connection, if you do then do this:
    1.  Open Finder
    2.  In Finder open Shared if collapsed and double click on your Time Capsule name.
    3.  Double click your Time Capsule, enter password (if you required).
    4.  Once connected to your Time Capsule double click on your Disk to mount it enter password (if your required).
    5.  Done,  remember the connection speed is dependent on your internet quality (broadband vs dial-up).
