Access Time Capsules HDD over the internet!?

Hi, I've done a search and was wondering if there is any method of connecting to Time Capsule over the Internet. There are some ways, but the setup seems pretty complicated.
Has anyone found an easy method of doing this?
Thanks for the Help!
Mike

You have to enable WAN sharing. Then you can access the drive by going to the "go" menu and "connect to server" then typing in: "apf://your external ip". Then punch in your password and you should be connected. For your PC connection you need to go to my computer, right click on it, and select map network drive and type in: "\\your external ip\your disk name". Let me know if it works.

  • Time Capsule connection over the internet

I bought the new Time Capsule 2T. I do travel a lot and want access to my files on the HDD of the Time Capsule. Despite some info on the internet I can not connect my Time Capsule over the internet. Any ideas how I can set my Time Capsule in such a way that I am able to connect over the internet.

  • Can I access the data backed up on my time capsule remotely via the Internet?

Can I access the data backed up on my time capsule remotely via the Internet? Let us say I have all my music or photos on my time capsule at home and I want to access it while I am outside over the Internet can I do this?

    See remote access methods here.

I am not sure what format these files are in.. but if they are itunes or iphoto.. have a care.. it is easy to corrupt them.

  • Cannot access Time Capsule HDD

Ok so we just got a 500gb Time Capsule, It worked for a while then just kind of stopped. Now I have all this stuff on it and cant access it:(((((((( Is there a way to like target disk a Time Capsule?

Open the airport utility.. make sure you can see the TC and can see the disk and see file sharing is set correctly.
Note . .If you had the TC setup to join a wireless network. .or current do.. the ethernet ports no longer work.. Apple turn them off if you join a non apple wireless network.
Do a full factory reset and the TC should be placed back in router mode and disk access should be fine.
    Try it.
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.

  • Time Capsule working without the internet being turned on ?

I set my TC up last week and it first I thought you could just plug it in, connect to it, and then wirelessly backup. I was wrong.
The only way I could get it to work was by connecting it wirelessly to my router/internet connection.
Now whenever the router is switched off the TC will not work until it is turned on.
Surely the TC can just be used for wireless backup without the need of the internet being turned on?
    TIA

For you to be able to connect wirelessly to a Time Capsule independently of you Internet connection, your Mac would have to connect to two wireless networks at once. Mac OS X isn't really organized to make that feasible.
If all you want to do with the Time Capsule is to use it as a backup drive, it would have been cheaper to buy such a drive.

  • I want to be able to remotely access my lion server over the internet how do I do this after installing lion server

i have a mac mini with lion server, I just want to be able to access it over the internet and upload and download files to it like my windows server, but I dont have a clue how to go about even starting this process

Im guessing you simply want to know what tool to use to access it. Meaning you access with your windows box with remote desktop - the mac equivalent of that is "screen sharing"
step 1: enable screen sharing on the mac server:  system pref -> sharing -> screen sharing
step 2: forward needed ports if behind a router (off the top of my head I believe its port 5900)
step 3: depending on what type of machine you're trying to access from... if from a mac, finder -> go -> connect to server ->  vnc://ip_address_or_domain_name  ------ if from a windows or linux box you'll need to get a VNC client (see google for those)
good luck and hope this helps

  • Cannot access RWA, VPN etc over the Internet but RDP OK - Essentials Role on WS2012R2

    Hello
I have a Hyper-V VM with WS2012R2 installed plus the Essentials Experience Role with RWA and VPN enabled.
There are 2 virtual NICS one on the LAN and one on the Internet. Both display the RWA logon screen when accessed locally. Both allow RDP no problem including over the Internet.
However the RWA logon screen does not display when accessed over the Internet.
Any ideas? It's driving me crazy!

Hmm. It seems to work on both NICs locally but I take your advice.
I wouldn't want to open up the LAN NIC to the Internet so I think the Essentials Experience Role will be out. Shame.
    Thanks

  • Beating a dead horse: Access Time Capsule files w/ an internet browser $

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I have spent 2 days and countless hours looking up how to access my TC using an internet browser. I've read about port fwding and dynamic vs. static IPs. I cannot figure this out. If someone could help me and actually get it to work, I would be willing to pay them a reward for there services thru paypal. I don't want to sign up for Mobile Me or pay for any monthly subscriptions. I just wanna be able to access my TC and it's files where ever I am using an internet browser. Here's what I've got:
MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Mac OS 10.6.4
Verizon Fios router model MI424WR-GEN2 w/ a dynamic IP
My TC is connected by ethernet to the Verizon router which enables me to use the WiFi on the TC
Do I have to sign into my Verizon router and change setting?
I'm pretty network illiterate so a good step-by-step would be great.
Thank so much to whoever can help me.

After all the setting have been put in, I'm getting an error that won't let me update the TC. It wants me to correct 2 problems. "The DHCP range you have entered conflicts with the WAN IP address of your Airport wireless device. What's that?
This error message is due to the fact that the TC is performing as a router (its default) and not as a bridge (as it should be) because it is downstream of your Verizon-provided router.
I apologize as I just realized when I first responded to you, that I had assumed that the TC was the only router in your network configuration. As such I had provided you with instructions based on that assumption.
As such, at least two things need to change in the instructions that I provided: 1) The Verizon-supplied router is your main Internet router and it is the one that needs to be configured for Port Mapping/Forwarding, not the TC, and 2) The TC should be reconfigured as a bridge. (ref: AirPort Utility > Select the TC > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)).
So I used the "with Time Capsule password", was that right?
    Yes, that would be correct.
    Here are the "adjusted" instructions:
AirPort Utility > Select the TC
o Note the value of the IP Address. This is the IP address of the TC that was assigned by the Verizon-supplied router. We are going to want to change this to a static IP address. For now, just note what IP address range it is in, i.e., 10.n.n.n or 192.168.n.n, etc.
Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection
o Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
    Manual Setup > Internet > TCP/IP
    o Configure IPv4 = Manually
o IP Address = select an IP address just outside of the range provided by your Verizon router. For example, if the router is supplying IP addresses in the range of 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.50, enter 192.168.0.51 here.
    o Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
o Router Address = This would be the LAN-side IP address of your Verizon router. Most likely it is 192.168.0.1
o DNS Servers = you would need to get these from your ISP, or just use the OpenDNS servers
o Domain Name = you can leave this blank
Manual Setup > Disks > Files Sharing tab
    o Enable file sharing (checked)
o Secure Shared Disks = With Time Capsule password
o AirPort Disks Guest Access = Not allowed
o Share disks over Ethernet WAN port (checked)
Manual Setup > AirPort > Base Station
o Enter a Base Station Password and verify it in the Verify Password box.
o When you have made all the changes, click Update.
Port Mapping instructions would be specific for your Verizon router. If you don't already, you may need to download a copy of the User Guide for this router in order to configure Port Mapping properly. The key is that the IP address for the port mapping would now be the private static IP address that you assigned to the TC. The Public & Private ports would be the same.

  • How to connect my time capsule & macbook to the internet?

I purchased a Time Capsule last weekend to back up all my photos etc.  I was able to set up the Time Capsule with Airport Utility and now have my home network set up, I can easily get everything I need on my Macbook Pro (mid 2009, Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 if that helps?) EXCEPT I can't get the time capsule to connect to the internet.  For some reason whenever I want to access my pictures or the time capsule, I have to connect to the wireless network but if I want to connect to the internet I have to reconnect to my old wireless network.  I have tried everything but just can't get it to work correctly! The Time Capsule light has only ever flashed orange at me...

time capsule should be in bridge mode and plugged into your main router so it is part of the existing network.
Bridge on you Lion version is easy as you can still download and install a real utility.

  • Time Capsule & Connectivity to the Internet

I am using a new MacBook Air with the new time capsule. My chosen network disappears after a while and I must unlock and then choose/open the network dialog box to rechoose my desired network? My Iphone and IPad do not have the same issue.

halo buddy. Unfortunately I didn't find a solution. I tried, calling apple care, reaching this forum, google, but failed, and then I sent it to apple retail store to change a new one since it's still in warranty. Genius Bar people told me it's hard to tell what the disgnosis was because it would take time to carry on tests, according to my description of the periodical loss of internet connection.
I didn't meet your iphone pc sync thing. Yes very strange situation. I strongly recommend you to take it to the apple retail store. But should its warranty expired, would help if you make a call before you go.

  • Accessing Time Capsule HDD

Has anyone else had the error message saying that access is denied to the time capsule hard drive from a computer?
If so, how did you resolve it and give access to the hard drive again?
If anyone else has any ideas i'd really appreciate the help

Are you the person that configured the TC? You must include the password which is being set.

  • Time capsule cannot find the internet

I have been using a prior Time Capsule (flat square 2 Tb).  Recently I've had intermittent problems connecting to Time Capsule.  After resetting it would would again  work briefly then the Time Capsule would be lost from the wireless connection to my MacBook Pro using Yosemite.  I suspected a hard drive issue and decided to upgrade.
I purchased the latest Time Capsule 3 Tb (ME2LL/A) to increase backup capacity and hopefully faster wireless transfer.
I disconnected the old and plugged in the new.  I was unable to connect to the internet.  I know the ethernet from the modem is working.  It can be directly connected to the computer and all is well.  All I get on the Time Capsule is a blinking yellow light.  I have done multiple resets without a connection.  Thinking I may have a defective unit, I returned it for exchange.  The same problem occurred as with the firs unit  It cannot connect to the internet.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

Yosemite is a cause of pain and suffering.
First things first can we simply bypass Yosemite.. at least do the setup with another computer .. non-yosemite. An iphone or ipad using airport utility for iOS is actually superior by far cf airport utility now in Mac OS. It seems to have far less hassles.
Start with a full factory reset of the TC.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Tell us then if you are forced to use Yosemite what is happening.
When you open the airport utility it should show an airport that needs configuration.
Make sure wireless is on and make sure the new device shows under the wifi icon in the top menu area.
Make sure you set ipv6 to link-local only for whatever connection you use.
I do recommend if you run into trouble and have no luck plus no ipad/iphone available.
Do it manually. Fully manual instructions using ethernet.. here.
Airport Utility shows "unexpected error - please try again" when connecting to Time Capsule

  • How do I connect my Time Capsule directly to the internet cable from the wall?

My Time Capsule only works if I connect it to my wireless router with a LAN cable. But, when I plug the cable from the wall directly into the Time Capsule, it just blinks orange. What am I not doing right?

There is no modem in the TC.. you need a modem.. your wireless router is actually a modem router.. not just a modem.. so it could be replaced with a straight modem.. sometimes.. it can be bridged .. sometimes..
But you still haven't told us enough.. what broadband do you have?
What model is the existing modem router? How does it authenticate to the ISP?
Once we know those things we can suggest further options.

  • Get an error message trying to access a remote PC over the internet on Mac

At work we have a remote web work place. I can get into the site but when I try to access the link to the computer list the message below is displayed.
    Error Message:
This portion of the Remote Web Workplace requires the Microsoft Remote Desktop ActiveX Control. Your browser's security settings may be preventing you from downloading ActiveX controls. Adjust these settings, and try to connect again.
With the new Snow Leopard it has support for the remote exchange server 2007. The one I'm desire to access would be XP Pro, but I'm not getting far enough to address them yet. When i use my PC there's a gold bar that comes down and says install Active X and I accept. Any idea's?

  • How to access my hard drive over the internet?

    Hi,
I would like to be able to access my hard drive while I am away from my desk. I am not running OS X Server. How can I do this?
Also, I am behind an Airport Base Station. Which ports would I need to open up?
Besides my Firewall and my Administrator password, how else can I secure the access?
    thank you....

VPN does not allow you to control your computer remotely, you are probably thinking of VNC. A VPN essentially extends your local network so that you can access it remotely. You can control your host computer to more than you can control any other computer by accessing it over your LAN.
I still think a VPN is the best option, but it's not easy to install (MacOS X server has a VPN with a GUI built in). OpenVPN is a great option, and there are several GUI interfaces for it (look for these on www.versiontracker.com). This is best because it is secure and will allow you to access your entire hard drive.
Like I said in the last post, WebDAV is also an option. This is what a .Mac iDisk is. This will only allow you access a specific folder (or set of folders) that reside in the Apache (var/www) directory. Although you can always make an alias to the apache directory and keep it in your Documents folder.
A third option that I didn't state before because it's probably the least best is to use NFS to access your home computer. This will allow you to access your entire hard drive. The downside to this is that there is no encryption, nor a password. For security, it uses IP or domain addresses. So this is not an option unless you will to accessing your hard drive from a computer (or a few computers) with (a) static IP address(es).
