Access to Aperture Library?

I was hoping with Motion 4 that you would finally be able to access your Aperture library, but apparently not?
Am I missing something? If anyone knows how (without exporting or adding to iPhoto) I'd love to know!
Thanks!

While I understand why you think you'd want to be able to access your Aperture library, mine is far too freakin' big to be of any use to me from within Motion and all of my Aperture files are 4k NEFs which just adds to Motion's confusion and uselessness. I far prefer to export scaled versions as jpeg or tiff and place the folder of photo resources in with all the rest of my media associated with that Motion project. This also allows me to easily gather all the files together is I need to hand it off to my partner's machine.
This is just how my workflow has evolved over many years of using photos and other still images in After Effects. It's efficient ant has a level of security built into it but it's just how we work and it may not be of any interest to you at all.

On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture.  How can I access the Aperture Library  on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup?  I can only access the application but not the library..

Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it.

  • I've installed Yosemite 10.10.3 and cannot access my Aperture library.

How can I access my Aperture library in Yosemite. I am missing the last 5 years of photos and the organization system I had in Aperture is missing. I get an error message telling me I need an updated version of Aperture, but there isn't one in the app store.

Did you upgrade to 10.10.3 from a previous OS X version (i.e. 10.9 or earlier)?
How did you previously purchase Aperture? If it was via the App Store, you should see it in your "purchases" list and maybe you can get the latest version there. If you purchased from outside the App Store (i.e. on CD), you'll probably need to contact AppleCare and see what you can do. Upgrading to 10.10.3 today, as opposed to upgrading to 10.10.2, was a very bad occasion of timing on your part, I suspect.

  • I cant access my Aperture library on external hard drive

I put my Aperture library on an external hard drive and was able to access it for some time.
I have now tried to access it today after several months of not trying and I keep getting this message:-
"Aperture cannot switch to the selected library because the file system of the library’s volume is not supported."
How can I get this resolved, I have over 4000 images and they are only on that external drive.
I hope someone can help me
    Thanks in advance
    Jason

What is the format of the volume the library is on? Select the volume in Finder and do a File->Get Info
If the file system is really unsupported then you might be able to copy the library off that volume onto a OS Extended volume and open it then.

  • I am unable to open my aperture 3 application on my macbook pro.  I access my aperture library on a 2tb external hard drive.  The aperture application is not responding and will not even bounce in the dock.

I use aperature 3. For the past 2 days, I have been unable to open the aperature application.  The icon does not even bounce in the dock.  I keep my aperature library on a 2 tb external hard drive.  I have never had this problem.  Any thoughts?  Thanks

For the past 2 days, I have been unable to open the aperature application.
What happened directly before this started? Have you updated software, installed something new, imported new images? Run any applications to clean the mac?
And what is your Aperture version and MacOS X version? Is your profile signature still current (MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), i just upgraded to lion)?
Have you checked, if Aperture is still installed in your Applications folder? Does it start, if you click it directly in Applications and not from the Dock?  Does Aperture start, if you click it while holding down the ⌥-key and select a different aperture library not on your 2 TB drive?

  • Access to Aperture library from iTunes and AppleTV

I'm not able to see my Aperture photo library using AppleTV or iTunes.
It worked a few days ago but it doesn't now.
File > homesharing > choose photo to share with AppleTV opens a blank box with a rotating wheel.
Trying to sync an iPhone works fine for music but 'PHOTOS' opens a blank box with rotating wheel.
The AppleTV unit won't access my photos at all.
I'm using the latest OS on a decent mac and the latest version of Apereture. I have run the photo library first aid > repair permissions and repair database.
I have noticed that some apperture actions have been slow recently.
    Any ideas?

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Without the original music files or access to the laptop with the original music files what you ask can't be done.

  • Cannot access my Aperture library

Please help - I cannot access my photos any more.  I have >400Gb in my library and all attempts to access it have failed.  If I click on Aperture it says I do not have the right file permissions to access.  I have read and write: I unlock it in Finder but there is nothing I can do.  I looked in Disk Utility and tried First Aid, but the Repair Disk says it is ok.  I have held down Option and Cmd and double clicked on Aperture, and have attempted to repair the permissions - it gets half way through a check then says "Could not enforce consitency of files".  The other options to repair do not work as it says I have the wrong permissions!!
My only idea now is to put my old discs for Aperture in and apply updates, as the library won't be readable on old versions.  Any ideas welcome ...... please?
    Thanks, James

    Hi Léonie
Thank you so much for offering to help me.  I was gathering answers to your questions (OS X 10.7.5; 3.4.3; external, direct; when I tried to log in today, after a week away - the hard disc, a Fujitsu Siemens 1.5Gb drive, does die inexplicably sometimes, and this may have corrupted it I guess), when it suddenly decided to open!  I have done nothing other than log in via a different login, attempted to open Aperture and got the same error message.  I then logged in via the one I normally use, which failed so many times, on so many fronts, earlier; I read you answer and clicked on Aperture to get the version number to reply to you.......and it opened my library!  I have no idea why, but what a relief!
Again, thank you for taking the time to help me, I really appreciate it.
    Regards
    James

  • I can't access my Aperture Library after updating to 10.6.8

After OSX 10.6.8 update Aperture is unable to open one of my current libraries because of 'incorrect permissions'.
I can't change the permissions as they're greyed out.
    Help?

Are you logged in using an Administrators account?
When you write that the permissions are grayed out what are you referring to? If you could attach a screenshot of what you are seeing it might help.

  • Iphoto 09 "Show Aperture Library" can't load images from Aperture 3.1

I'm trying to create a calendar in iPhoto 09 using my photos in Aperture 3.1. When I select from iPhoto "Show Aperture Library" I just get the spinning wheel. Below is my environment and what I have tried:
    Environment:
    * iMac 27 3 ghz
    * 4 G Mem
    * 10.6.5 OSX
    * iLife 09
    * Aperture 3.1
    * All updates applied
Below is what I have tried/verified:
    * In Aperture, Preferences, set the previews to share with iLife and iWorks "Always"
    * Reviewed export Presets - didn't see anything that may apply
    * Verified it worked on my old iMac (20 inch 2 ghz, ilife 09, Aperture Trail version 3.0.1)
    * Created a new Aperture library (new mac) and still can not see it from iPhoto
Unfortunately, I can get into the Trail version on the old mac (expired) to see if something is configured differently or if this function is not supported in Aperture 3.1.
I know I can export from Aperture and Import into iPhoto, but thats seems like a lot of work for what I need to accomplish.
Someone please show me the light!

It should work in 3.1 also so thats not the issue.
First if you try to access the Aperture library from an application other then iPhoto, say mail, does that work? If it does then the problem is most likely with iPhoto. If you get the 'spinning beach ball' in mail then its looking like Aperture.
Assuming its Aperture you should go through the steps outlined at [Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805]. Do those and let us know what happens.

  • Aperture Library and iLife Media Browser - Showing Deleted MobileMe Gallery

I'm currently using Aperture 3.1 and iLife '09 and just noticed that when I try to access the Aperture Library from say iPhoto or Keynote that the list of folders contains two MobileMe folders with my name, one of which contains dupicates of two of my gallery's. Now I deleted all of my MobileMe gallery's to see if I could fix this, but it still shows a MobileMe folder and two gallery's that no longer exist. I even logged out of MobileMe in Aperture, but still in the iLife Media browser the non-existent gallery's are still shown. I even tried deleting all previews and re-generating in Aperture, to see if the sharing information would be updated, but still these phantom gallery's persist. I guess this doesn't cause me any problems, but I would just like to fix it and wondered if anyone else had seen this and knew of a solution? Thanks.

  • How to view aperture library from another computer on network?

    Hi,
I'd like to simply view (not edit) my aperture library from another computer on my home network. The aperture library resides on a mac pro, and I'd like to see the images on a macbook pro to show family members. On the surface, this seems like a simple concept - as Apple TV can do this with home sharing. Further, itunes can share it's library in this manner.  Is this possible?
    thank you,
    T

You don't mention which OS you're using and I understand that Lion has changed some of the sharing features but  what you are looking to do is doable.
Be warned that accessing an Aperture library over a network is slow and definitely not something you want to do if editing except in an emergency and you want to make triple sure that only one user is accessing the library at a time.  But I regularly access libraries over wireless when I'm to lazy to walk across the house and need to check somthing out.
If you are using Snow Leopard go into System preferences->Sharing and tune on file sharing on the the Mac Pro. If you have the same user name on both systems you should have no problem accessing the library from the MBP.
If you're on Lion, you'l need to lok up how to enable file sharing. I haven't swithced so I can;r help you there.
    good luck

  • Transferring Aperture Library to Time Capsule, 63GB taking 6 days?

I've checked my connection speed says on the Network Assistant, says the Ethernet Connection speed is 1GBit/sec, I've turned wireless off so in theory it should be transferring a LOT faster than it is. Its taken 1/2 and hour so far and only done 366MB. There's around 400GB of space left on the Time Capsule so I'm just about at my wits end

Wow. I was thinking of getting this but those speeds are really slow. Once you have your Aperature Library on your Time Capsule, will you be able to access your Aperture Library from any Mac on your network? For example, I have a 27'' iMac and a Mac Mini. I have my iPhoto Library on my iMac but would like to use that iPhoto Library when I turn on my Mac Mini. Can I do that? Have both computers open my Library from the networked Time Capsule? Is that what you are trying to do?

  • What's the best way to make my Aperture library more manageable?

I'm running the latest version of Aperture. My photo library has become quite large and it takes a long time to load. Any advice or opinions on how to make the library more manageable would be appreciated before I go ahead and mess it all up. Obviously, I have a lot of photos there that I never view but I don't really want to simply delete them.
    Thanks

    I have 192Gb of 999Gb left
    That should suffice.
I have now disabled FACES, XML and previews. I'll test this shortly to see if it helps. I'm not sure what difference this will make to other apps.
That will be important, when you want access the APerture library from other applications using te Media Browser or when you want to sync your images to your deviced usin iTunes. For images, that you want to use in the Media Browser you will need previews, or for browsing your aperture library in quick Preview mode. You can craete previews indivudally, if you do need them only for selected images. If you want to use the Media Browser with third party applications, however, you will also need the XML. See:
Aperture 3.5: Set "Share XML with other applications" to "Never" for better performance and faster quit times
Okay. I've closed Aperture and reopened it 4 times. It appears to go through this 'IMPORTING FROM iCloud November 2013' every time.
Either it takes a very long time, or there is an image or a video in your Photo Stream that cannot be imported, because it is incompatible or corrupted.
For iPhoto libraries it used to help, to remove the current "Importing" or "Auto Import" folder  from the library package. Try, if this will help for your Aperture library.
See this post by LarryHN how to do it:
TS3745 Re: iphoto library error message???
If you cannot get the import to stop this way, post back, Then you have to delete the photos from your Photo Stream or reset the Photo Stream.

  • Can you share one Aperture Library on one Mac across two users?

I have Aperture 2 on my Mac. My girlfriend has her own login. I would like to be able to access my Aperture Library from my girlfriends login.
Is this possible? How do you do it?
    Cheers

Ops! Not so fast. I would like if I can edit my previous post but I can not. So, please read below since unfortunately this is not as simple as I thought it is last night...
I tested that last night using and manipulating the existing "test" projects and "test" masters and versions.
Today I tried with the new aperture library in a shared folder in users folder. Did not work.
Then I tried the library I used last night at the top directory level. It still worked. And, then, I tried to make new "test" projects and new "test" versions and the problems started.
I tested this with the library on external disk again and it worked without problems.
    Here are the observations:
    1. With the aperture library in one of the users folder if one user opens the file, do some changes and closes the application, second user can not even open the application. Aperture will report the permissions error. Updating the permissions would cure the problem.
    2. When the aperture library is outside of the one of the users folder and proper permissions are given, both users can open and close application without problems. Existing items with proper permissions established can be manipulated and second user can still open them and work on them without problems. That is what I established last night. Making new projects and new versions, though, would lead to trouble. Updating the permissions may or may not help. I still do not understand what is happening.
    3. With the aperture library on external disk everything works without problems. Existing items are keeping there permissions. New projects and versions have "flexible" permissions. Current user is assigned full access. So, files created by user 1 will have the read and write permissions for that user for that session. Once application is closed and opened by user 2 permissions are changed giving user 2 full access to the new files and user 1 name does not appear in the panel. Repeating the same thing with user 2 creating the files and reopening on user 1 side would have same result.

  • Motion and Aperture Library

In Motion Library photos tab I see my iPhoto library but I would like to see the photos in my Aperture library.  The Aperture library is on a different hard drive.  Any thoughts on how I can get those photos to show up in Motion?  They are visible in FCPX

Came across this and several identical threads after running into this with my first launch of Motion 5.0.1
Really makes no sense that FCPX can access the Aperture library, but that Motion can only access iPhoto.  As Lars says, pro apps should link to pro apps.
Exporting from Aperture is of course a workaround, but having a link to the Aperture version (equivalent to Adobe 'smart object") is the way this should be done IMHO.
Join me in sending a wish to Apple via the Motion > Provide Motion Feedback menu...
    Cheers,
    Karl
