Access to discussions

The discussions page has always been accessible easily through the support page. I just noticed today that it seems to be a lot harder to find it on the support page. In fact, I had to deliberately search it out and found it under the title of "community", tucked away next to a few specific solutions.
I reckon it would a lot better but moving it up into the bar above with "manuals", "tech specs" and "downloads". I reckon this forum is worth more attention, it's a great place!
Cheers!

Re-posted from another thread on the subject:
I have seen a lot of comments come through the site support feedback page about this as well. Although I am glad we are featured more prominently on the page than we were previously, it is obvious it has caused some confusion.
I do like that we are now featured as a "Community" which better reflects what myself and the staff here are trying to achieve and is more in line with what we hope this site will become in the future.

  • "Connection reset" when trying to access Apple Discussion Forums

    I am unable to log onto the discussion forums from my iBook since changing my ISP to a satellite Broadband service (Bordernet) in Australia. When I attempt to do so I get a message in my browser "The Connection was reset while page was loading."
    I can access the site without problems from a PC on the same LAN without any difficulties - hence my ability to post this message.
    Have also had some intermittent diffiulty in sending emails with (small) attachments (250-400k).
    The ISP help desk suggested I reset the timeout in the Outlook Email program on the Windows machine to maximum. Did that, no change with the iBook.
    Doesn't seem to be a issue of the Apple.com servers being overloaded, as I can fail to manage a log on with the iBook and easily do so with the Windows machine within seconds of switching machines.
    I've also checked that passwords and logon name are the same on both machines.
    Have tried connecting the satellite modem directly to the iBook as well as through the router (a D-Link 704-P) and the speeds are consistent -- so close to the same that they virtually identical.
    Don't have any firewalls set on the iBook or through the router software, only on the Windows machine, and it is the one that works!
    Have set up the proxies and port settings suggested by the ISP (10.16.143.73:9877) which result in a general speed increase earlier on, but did not solve this problem.
    The people at the ISP haven't come up with an answer yet.
    Is there a way to set the timeout on an ibook? (Altough I suspect that this is a red herring as I'm not so sure that settings in an email program will effect other internet settings as well...
    Could there be other settings on the iBook that may be slowing things up enough to make this happen?
    Any ideas?

    I'm going to assume you meant... "NsurlerrorDomain: -1005".
    Is it a Linksys Modem?
    By the way... NSURLErrorNetworkConnectionLost
    Returned when a client or server connection is severed in the middle of an in-progress load.
    Available in Mac OS X v10.3 and later.
    Sooo, while it may be something as weird as Satellite alignment/interference, I've read that trashing the whole Users/nnn/Preferences Folder fixid it, but maybe installing Applejack...
    http://applejack.sourceforge.net/
    Once installed, reboot, hold down the CMD+s keys, when the prompt shows, type in "applejack auto", (without the quotes), and let it run all 5 things in the series... thinking maybe a .cache is being held over from your previous setup!?
    Anyway, once you really need Applejack, you can't install it or download it! :_)
    Waiting to see if we get anywhere with this tact.
    Oh yeah, that plist will be regenerated on a restart.

  • Accessing Apple Discussions by iPhone

    Has anyone been able to log into these discussion forums on their iPhone Safari?
    I just get errors if I try to access by clicking around or from a link in a discussion email.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    I can do it. I get an error when I login, but I also get that on my Mac, because the login page has not yet been ported over to Apple's new site design. Once I get the error, I just click My Questions to get back into the forum.

  • Easier access to Discussions

    Maybe I start on the wrong end of the Forums, but I'd like to have easier access to the full list of Discussions at a Forum. I'm very familiar with these forums and prefer to glance at complete lists, not just the most recent headlines.
    So is there an easy way to navigate from this:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_cloud_faq?view=overview
    to the more verbose list of Discussions like this:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_cloud_faq?view=discussio ns
    Would be nice to have a direct link or so...

    Bookmarks work, especially if you want to view more than the default number of posts per page (e.g. 100 as Jacob suggests).
    Alternatively, you can run a small bit of JavaScript via a bookmarklet in your browser to set this as the default view.
    First, add a bookmark to your browser. Set the URL to equal-
    javascript:setUserDefaultTab();
    Then, go to the discussions view in an any forum, e.g. http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_cloud_faq?view=discussio ns#/?per_page=100
    Once on that page, click the bookmark you created.
    That's it.
    The next time you go to a forum here (e.g. http://forums.adobe.com/community/general/forum_comments) it should show you the Discussions list by default.
    If you decide you don't like that and want to go back, just go to the overview view in any forum (e.g. http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup/creative_cloud_faq?view=overview) and click the bookmark again.

  • Do I have to login every time I access Apple discussions using Safari

    Is there a way to stay logged in on my Apple ID on the Apple website.
    Each time I launch Safari and go to Apple Discussions I have to manually login.
    I seem to remember in the past I didn't need to do this, maybe on older OS X, maybe I've changed a pref inadvertently.
    iMac 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.25 GB RAM

    Just to add to the information already provided:
    I seem to remember in the past I didn't need to do this, ...
    Yes, that was correct. In an older version of the Discussions forum you used to not have to login all the time, but the forum administrators changed things about 12-18 months ago.

  • Discussions and iPhoto 08 access plus question

    I haven't been able to access the iPhoto 08 discussion but receive the following message:
    "Error An error in the system has occurred. Please contact the system administrator if the problem persists. Useful links : Forum Home -- browse the forums here. Search Forums -- visit the search page to query all forum content."
    As you see, I have been able to access this discussion!
    Question: I think may be answerable with this group, too: Can you make/have sub-albums under an Album? If so, how is it done?
    Thanks.

    The iPhoto '08 forum is sick right now - I'm sure it will be back soon
    You can not make sub albums but you can make folder and place albums in them - so you might have a vacation folder with Italy, Spain, Montana, etc albums in it

  • An error occurred while trying to provision the service 'Discussions'.

    Hi All
    I initially got the error Failed to authenticate user when accessing the discussion and Announcement services within WebCenter. I subsequently configured WS Security by providing the required keystore as indicated in this tutorial:
    http://e20tricks.blogspot.com/2010/02/webcenter-quick-install-guide.html
    I've created a orcladmin user that is the system admin in Jive Forum too and use this as the required user in the service configuration within EM.
    I now however even though the Discussion and Announcement Service is available in WebCenter get the following error when trying to add either service to a group space:
    An error occurred while trying to provision the service 'Announcements'. The service did not get provisioned.
    I can't find anything in the logs that indicates any errors.
    Have I missed something? A slight configuration stuff-up perhaps?
    FYI my keystore defines -dname as "cn=machine name, dc=com, dc=au".
    Any advice and help would be much appreciated :)

    Make sure when you generate your keystore you use these commands:
    genkeypair
    importcert
    exportcert
    and not:
    genkey
    import
    export
    if the above commands you should be using are not available you've got an issue with your keytool which is probably an incorrect java. Make sure you have a JDK installed.

  • Accessing Enclosing Class Members From Inner Class Subclass

    I have the following scenario that I cannot get to work. Notice the comments in B.doWork() for the problem code. In B.doWork(), how do I access m_strA?
    * A.java
    * Created on July 5, 2002, 2:20 PM
    package Projects.InnerTrouble.Files;
    public class A {
         public abstract class InnerA {
              public abstract void doWork ();
         public String m_strA;
         /** Creates new A */
         public A ()
                   new InnerA() {
                             public void doWork ()
                                       System.out.println("A$InnerA$1's doWork() called!");
                                       m_strA = "Annonymous subclass of InnerA's doWork did this";
                        }.doWork();
         * @param args the command line arguments
         public static void main (String args[])
                   A oTemp = new A();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
                   B.getB(oTemp).doWork();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
    class B extends A.InnerA {
         public B (A a)
                   a.super();
         public void doWork ()
                   System.out.println("B's doWork() called!");
                   // How do I access m_strA within B's doWork() method?  The following is what I would expect to be the answer, but it does not compile
                   // A.this.m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
         private static A.InnerA sm_oInnerA;
         public static A.InnerA getB (A a)
                   if (sm_oInnerA == null)
                        sm_oInnerA = new B(a);
                   return (sm_oInnerA);

    The whole point is that B is not an inner class of A
    so it does not have access to A's member variables.
    Eventhough B extends an inner class of A, that does
    not make B an inner class of A. That is in the JLS,
    but not so elegantly as I have put it, hehe.
    If B were an innerclass of InnerA, then it would
    qualify to access A's member variables.OK, I think that you are finally getting through to my thick skull on this one. Let me restate and get your check-off on my understanding of the situation.
    The only classes with access to A's this reference are A and inner classes of A that are found within the definition of A. So, despite the fact that A and B are in the same package (and B should have access to A's non-private members because B and A are in the same package), and despite the fact that we would normally state that B "is a" InnerA (which is an inner class of A and would have access to a reference to the A.this reference), B is not allowed access to A.this (because B "is not really a" InnerA in the same way that the anonymous implementation of InnerA "is a" InnerA). However, nothing would prevent me from giving B access to a reference of the enclosing A as long as it was done via a method of InnerA, and as long as the implementation of that method is contained in A's implementation.
    Does this "access" rule realy make sense? Are you aware of the justification for this rule? Or is the justification stated in the JLS? I would think that the compiler ought to be able to figure this kind of thing out and allow it. It seems to me the fact that I defined B in the way that I did, and the fact that B "is a" InnerA, implies that I desired a fairly tight relationship to A. In fact, I desired the exact relationship that exists for the anonymous implementation of InnerA.
    The following is a modified version of my original example that runs as I originally wanted it to, but works around the access rules discussed on this forum thread:
    * A.java
    * Created on July 5, 2002, 2:20 PM
    package Projects.InnerTrouble.Files;
    public class A {
         public abstract class InnerA {
              public abstract void doWork ();
              /** added to allow implementors of InnerA that are not enclosed in A's class definition to have access to the enclosing class */
              public A myEnclosingInstance ()
                        return (A.this);
         public String m_strA;
         /** Creates new A */
         public A ()
                   new InnerA() {
                             public void doWork ()
                                       System.out.println("A$InnerA$1's doWork() called!");
                                       m_strA = "Annonymous subclass of InnerA's doWork did this";
                        }.doWork();
         * @param args the command line arguments
         public static void main (String args[])
                   A oTemp = new A();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
                   B.getB(oTemp).doWork();
                   System.out.println(oTemp.m_strA);
    class B extends A.InnerA {
         public B (A a)
                   a.super();
         public void doWork ()
                   System.out.println("B's doWork() called!");
                   // The following is what I would expect to be the answer, but it does not compile
                   // A.this.m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
                   // added myEnclosingInstance() to get functionality desired above
                   myEnclosingInstance().m_strA = "B's doWork did this";
         private static A.InnerA sm_oInnerA;
         public static A.InnerA getB (A a)
                   if (sm_oInnerA == null)
                        sm_oInnerA = new B(a);
                   return (sm_oInnerA);
    }

  • Problem using discussion on folder

    Hi,
            I wanted to enable discussion service on a folder. To start a discussion on a folder, i click on colloboration tab (in details iview of folder) and clicked on "start a discussion".I get a discussion post iview( without subject space) instead of discussion topic iview(with subject line), as i'm creating discussion for the first time on that folder.
           Later, if i continue with the dicussion post, after creating the discussion post i get a message "You do not have permission to access this discussion".
           Please let me know if any prerequisite settings to be configured before using discussion service and how do i enable discussion service on folder. I'm using NW04 SPS 16 patch 3 and i'm trying to enable discussion service for a folder which is present in my own repository.
    Naveen

    Hi Vineeth,
    I unchecked the "No topics" option available in "discussion_simple"  present under Repository_services->Discussion_service and did a restart of the server. Now i get the option of "Discussion Topic" with the subject field when click "start a discussion" for a folder. I'm able to create a discussion, but i cannot acess the discussion and i get the same error "you do not have acess permission". Do i need to mention the repository name somewhere for the discussion service and any permission sets for my repository because the discussion service works fine on any folder created on instance CMrepostitory provided by SAP (i.e documents->news->Myfolder).

  • Forum discussions link broken??

    If you click on the "support" and then "discussions" link at the top of the home screen, you get this:
    We're sorry, Apple Discussions are temporarily unavailable. The system should be back on-line soon
    However, if you are able to link into the discussion forums (which do seem to be available) by cut/pasting a link from an E-mail notification.
    Barry

    I think there was an issue with being unable to login to reply.
    Considering how often in the last two days Discussions will not open; time out; and/or are more sluggish than ever, and the only place where I ever see "unavailable" is from the main page, not sub-Discussion (like Mac Pro)...
    I don't see how someone would know if "local" was all of the USA or a forum, but it is only Apple Discussions.... all other web sites, Apple Store, are fine.
    I did run try one link that led to "being upgraded" (http://docs.info.apple.com/)
    Seems like the servers need a reboot and rebuild of the indexes - or throw more hardware at the problem... I just gave up idea of ever accessing any Discussion area yesterday. Even when I could read a discussion thread, I could NOT login, could not reply, not in any web browser - OmniWeb, Shiira, Firefox.... (and only when those don't work do I ever bother trying to use Safari).
    I even tried from a good backup system.
    When our 3270 'dumb terminals' would get to a 20 second delay for remote users, they would just hit enter, then go do something productive... total nightmare at that speed to get anything accomplished.

  • Is there anyway to access previous posts?

    If the topic I'm looking for isn't listed among the current 59 or so topics, how do I access previous discussions?
    There's no additional page numbers evident at the bottom, nor do I see any option to display more..

    I'm afraid it's more complicated: the app works, and the sharing is on, I just can't see it on the TV because the default video settings on the atv are wrong for my TV(the best solution would be for me to buy a new TV, but I'm not ready to do that yet ;-). ).  I need to be be able to do the equivalent of hitting both the menu and select button on the atv remote on the app, but it doesn't seem possible.  I was hoping someone might have a fix?

  • Email alert for discussions don't link to reply functionality

    We're on SharePoint 2013.  We have a discussion forum that we set up a daily change alert.  After 6 months we have little reply posts.  Until today we noticed that the change alert links to the posting of the discussion BUT WITHOUT the reply
    functionality available.
    A user happened to also ask the same day how do they reply.
    So... community... does someone know how to make the alerts link to the page that does allow the replies?  Thanks!

    Hi Suzan,
    How did you configure the Alerts for the discussion list?
    Did you use the OOB alert in SharePoint?
    If yes, please click the “View [Item Title]” link in the email to access the discussion in the site and then check if the Reply button exists.
    If above cannot work, I recommend to check the things below:
    Check if the users have permission to reply to the discussions.
    Check if the issue still occur when accessing site directly.
    Best regards.

  • Looking for the steps to configure remote access to HD connected to airport Extreme via Surfboard modem

    I found an article that seemed a little dated outlining steps on how to access files on my exteral hard drive that is connected to my airport extreme.  I have enabled personal file sharing, specified the ports and put in the internal IP address. To test, I am connecting to VPN on my ipad, firing up a browser and trying to navigate to the external IP address and port number specified (xxx.xx.xxx.xx:xxxx)  I keep getting a page cannot be displayed error. Any suggestions?

    Test from a real WAN connection.. not a loop around via vpn. as it is hard to know where the problem is.. is it the vpn or the port forwarding.
    Also it is hard to test from ipad as the only effective protocol to use is AFP on 548 and ipad is not able to do it.
    Read Tesserax info on remote access.
