Access to folder crashes Premiere Elements 10

Whenever I request access to a folder such as "File Save To"  or "Export To" or Import From. the folder dialog opens for a brief instant then the program quits.

This can happen if you have installed the K-Lite Codec Pack, which installs the Haali/Matroska Splitter. The Haali/Matroska Splitter will cause explorer to crash along with any apps when you open a window that contains certain kinds of video. CoreCodec also installs the Haali/Matroska Splitter. So if you have the Haali/Matroska Splitter installed, does uninstalling it fix the problem?
You will have to search for a file named "splitter.ax" possibly in a folder: Program Files/Haali/MastroskaSplitter
I think you can use the CodecTweak Tool to disable it, but I use the following command from a command prompt in the folder where it resides: regsvr32 /u splitter.ax
My operating system is Windows XP Pro SP3.

  • How to change the default new project folder in Premiere Elements 13?

I keep all my projects on a different drive than the default My Documents folder. How can I change the default setting so that Premiere Elements does not try to create new projects in the My Documents\Pemiere Elements\13.0 folder? In fact, I do not want that folder to be used for anything (including layouts and styles).

    steveb
    Short version....
Referring to the 13.0 Folder in the Adobe Folder in documents, you wrote
In fact, I do not want that folder to be used for anything (including layouts and styles).
I do not believe that is possible.
    For my best case scenario
Set the Scratch disks, not to Same As Project, but set for Custom with the set being the save location that you set for the project file.
Set the project save in, my preference, File Menu/Save As.
You are going to end up automatically with a 13.0 Folder in the Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/13.0 Folder every time you open a Premiere Elements project. No matter how many times you try to delete the 13.0 Folder. And that 13.0 Folder will contain a Layout Folder and, if you applied a Style in the project, a Styles Folder.
    Longer Version....
There is no problem directing your project file to the save location of choice. You can do that two way
    1. After you open the project to the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/Save As to change the name of the project as well as the location for the save in order to avoid the defaults.
    2. You can also do that through File Menu/New/Project.
That 13.0 Folder also gains its contents from the settings of the scratch discs in Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disc - some examples preview files, disc encoding files, conformed audio files... Some Files/Folders are placed there automatically. So what to do to keep the Documents area clear of Premiere Elements files, project or otherwise after you have move all that you thought you could to a non Adobe default location? See above best case scenario.
    Miscellaneous
    1. If you set the save location of the project in either of the 2 ways, that setting will not hold from project to project. It will hold for that particular project.
    3. If you set the Scratch disks in Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks, those settings seem to hold from project to project as well as for in the particular project.
Stevenb, please review and consider and verify. I have gone through several scenarios on what you would prefer. But, I do not see a way to make that happen with the programming that exists.

  • Crash Premiere Elements 12 // Windows 8

    Bonjour,
    Merci

  • Premiere Elements 4 crashes with "cpp-283

New install on Vista 32bit Ultimate
Uninstalled the previous version and installed Photoshop elements 7.0 and Premiere Elements 4.
When I try to run Premiere it crashes.
I have run Photoshop elements, and I created a new catelogue as suggested elsewhere in relations to this error.
    Any thoughts?

I would go to Windows Update and ensure I had even the non-critical updates. Then I'd ensure I had the latest version of Quicktime.
Then I'd uninstall Premiere Elements and run a registry cleaner. CCleaner is great. Windows Advanced System Care, from IOBit software, is also free and not only cleans your registry but it clear temp and other junk files.
You might also want to go to C:/Documents and Settings/[Owner}/Application Data/Adobe and change the name of the Premiere Elements folder to "Premiere Elements OLD". Then reinstall the software.
All if this is assuming you've got plenty of RAM, a fast processor and at least 30 gigs of free, defragmented space on your C drive.

  • Where is my Premiere Elements File Stored

In My Documents folder I have xyz.prel .
Am I correct that .prel files contain "the project" meaning references to all assets, and all editing decisions that were made?
The original xyz.prel has not been modified according to the date, but there are updates in Adobe Premiere Elements Auto-Save .  Should I save the latest file in the Auto Save folder to capture the state of my project?
Sorry for the basic question, but it is a quirky way to handle this, if my understanding is correct.

    Troys555
We need to know what version of Premiere Elements that you are using and on what computer operating system it is running.
Generalizing for now....the Premiere Elements project file is named "Name Of Your Project.prel". Its save location is determined by
what is set in the new project dialog. This is your working file which contains imported source media copies of the originals that are saved to the
computer hard drive. The copies in Premiere Elements Project Media aka Project Assets must trace back to the originals which are saved on the hard drive at the time of import.
The AutoSave feature includes snapshots of the project at various stages as you progress through the project. The settings (frequency and number of snapshots before the oldest one is deleted) for this feature are found in Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoSave. These AutoSave may be able to be used if the working project. prel is not longer available for some reason.
There is the opportunity for not using this feature - doing periodic Save A Copy (each with a different name) as you progress through your project. See File Menu/Save A Copy. These copies can be put into a folder on the computer hard drive for access at another time.
I would not go putting anything (your own Save A Copy files) in the AutoSave Folder (Adobe Premiere Elements AutoSave) which contains the AutoSave files that the program puts there automatically when the AutoSave feature is activated.
Please review and consider. If you need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Media cache files: Premiere Elements 9 with SSD

    Hello you fine Adobe people.
I apologize if this has been asked before, if so please could somebody direct me to an answer?
I have Premiere Elements 9 on Windows 7. My issue is pretty simple: my shiny new SSD is getting full of temp files from the "C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files" location every time I work on a project.  I have set all other cache items I can see in "Preferences" to my mechanical disk, but I am alarmed to see this folder filling up with huge files on my SSD. Aside from the unneccessary reads and writes, it will be filled up in no time. It seems in Premiere Pro you can direct this folder to an external drive, but I cannot find this option in Premiere Elements.
Please tell me there is a way to move the media cache files directory to another drive than C:\ ?
    Thank you in advance
    A Craven

    alistair78
The answer is that you need Premiere Elements answers for Premiere Elements questions.
The conformed audio files (cfa and pek) are stored in the Media Cache Files Folder. By default, that folder is found in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10 (if 10 is your version). You set the save location for the Media Cache Files Folder in Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and the "Media Cache" category.
The conformed video files (mcdb) are can be accessed via the Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Media and its Media Cache Database area. There you will find a Clean up to clear them and set limits. The actual files (which have a .mcdb file extension) can be found via the path shown in that area. This appears to be an unchangeable location.
Preview files from rendering of Timeline content to get the best possible preview at play back of the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor are stored in the Adobe Premiere Elements Previews File Folder. By default, that folder is found in Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit Libaries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/10 (if 10 is your version). You set that save location for the Adobe Premiere Elements Elements Previews File Folder in Premiere Elements Editor workspace Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks and the Video Previews category.
Please let us know if you are now clear about Premiere Elements and how it relates to Media Cache et al.
Please ask if any further questions on this or need clarification.

  • Premiere Elements 9 Project Media View List & Icon Icons Gone

Today at another forum that I frequent, a Premiere Elements 9 user was distressed because he could not find the List (Ctrl + Page Up) & Icon (Ctrl _ Page Down) icons that were found in the prior version of the Project Media View. The Icon view was particularly useful for sorting media before dragging to the Timeline or for the Create Slideshow feature. Now in Premiere Elements 9, all you have are your media in a list format with no option to sort.
This person simultaneously posted his question at another forum for which he received a reply and a workaround  which included going into the Elements Organizer/Create/SlideShow Editor and create a slideshow that could be outputted (Edit in Premiere Elements) back into Premiere Elements 9. I would take issue with that suggested approach since I believe that there is an easier and quicker workaround to overcome the inconvenient loss of those features in Premiere Elements 9 Project Media View.
First, the questions and then my workaround for this situation
Does anyone know if Adobe is aware of this situation and intends to correct this oversight or intentional change in features?
Has anyone come up with his/her favorite workaround for this matter?
Bottom Line for my workaround: From Premiere Elements 9 workspace, go to Elements Organizer workspace and create a sorted album of the media brought into Premiere Elements 9 Get Media/Files & Folders. Then exist Elements Organizer, opening to Premiere Elements workspace where one uses Filter by: Select Album and does just that.
I will post a step by step on my suggested workaround if requested.

I was trying to be discreet and have us still remain friends, so I did not mention the responder at the other forum by name or place. You let the cat out of the bag. OK, no offense taken please, but I thought that your workaround "Elements Organizer/Create/Slideshow/Edit With Premiere Elements" was "not so good" a choice. I will owe up to that.
None of the workarounds are as good as the Adobe Icon View of prior version, but....
Workaround 1. If your interest is getting sorted photos for using the Create Slideshow Feature in Project Media View. The secret is to put the photos in a Folder and then move the photos around in the Folder. I can go into the choreography on that if need be. Then highlight all the photos in the Folder, select Create Slideshow. Even if you do not go the Create Slideshow route, this is one way to get sorted photos for the Timeline.
Workaround 2. If the Create Slideshow feature is not involved. Going the create Album route in Elements Organizer.
Premiere Elements 9 Get Media/Files and Folders
    Add Media Dialog
    Select photos, Click Open
Select Organizer in the row above the line of Organize/Edit/Disc Menus/Share to open the Elements Organizer.
In the Elements Organizer, go to the Albums category and expand that category, then click on the green cross, and select New Album. On that right side of the Elements Organizer you will see a window with two tabs, Content and Sharing. Select Content and drag your media from the major window on the left to the Content window on the right. Name the album and click Done.
You will then see your Album name listed in the Album’s category. Click the green icon to the left of the Album name. When you do, you will see thumbnails for your photos numbered sequentially in the major window on the left side of the Elements Organizer. Sort the photos there as you want them arranged on the Timeline. Then exit Elements Organizer via File Menu/Exit.
The Premiere Elements Organize workspace will open. Go to the Filter by: Select Album and do just that, selecting the sorted album that you just created. Highlight the photos  and drag them to the Timeline.
That is what I have come up with so far. I have been doing a lot of retesting of the principle to make sure that it would work more than just the first time.
What do you think? Contribution or first class dud??
    ATR
Just another possible variation on the thought with regard to Create Slideshow....it might merit thinking about numerically or alphabetically ordering your photos in a Folder beforehand and then bringing the Folder into Premiere Elements so that you have the Folder in Project Media View...Select All...Right Click Highlight....Create Slideshow?????

  • Getting Premiere Elements 11 to install on my upgraded OS (Vista to Win 7)

I recently upgraded my PC to run Win 7 (64 bit).  I did a clean install of the OS so I need to reload my software.  I purchased PhotoShop Elements 11 with Premiere last year.  Both ran well on my Vista 64 bit OS.  PhotoShop installed with out a problem but the installer gives me this excuse for not installing Premiere. "This installer does not support installation on a 64-Bit Windows operating system. If you are installing by browsing through the disk content, then please run the "Setup.exe" from the folder "Adobe Premiere Elements 11\PRE 64".  If you are not installing from the disks please download the 64-Bit version of Premiere Elements 11."  Odd message since it had no problem installing and running on Vista 64bit.
I don't have a disk so can anyone tell me where I can find the 64-Bit version of Premiere Elements 11 to download?

You can download the 64-bit trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

  • Inability to complete installation of Premiere Elements

Download (of Premiere Elements) went ok.  I selected destination as disk D:   (My computer has partitions C: and D:, plus external hard drives named K: and L:).
    Extraction went ok.
Windows installer commenced.  I selected language as 'English (United States)'
    Error message as follows ensued:
"Error opening installation log file.  Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable"
    How do I rectify this?

Thanks for replying, Jeff.  And thanks for the link too, but that seems to deal with problems encountered AFTER the log file has been written to.  The trouble I am experiencing with the installation is, I think, because the log file, for some reason, cannot be created.  Regarding the disk space,  C: is 856Gb with 677Gb free,  D is 74.4Gb with 24.2Gb free.
I did at first select C: as the disk to use for the installation, but the installation routine warned me that this might cause me problems and suggested I choose another location, hence I opted for D:
The software downloaded and extracted ok and is now there as a folder "Adobe Premiere Elements 12" on the D: disk.
The Windows Installer starts running and I think as a first step it tries to create a log file, and this is where it is falling down.
I am not sure what you mean when you say 'customize the installation'.  The install process just asked me to select where to put the downloaded software; there was no default choice indicated.

  • Premiere Elements 11 Project Assets Panel

I've added media from my hard drive, where the file numbers are in numerical order.  However, when the files arrive the Project Assets panel they are no longer in the original numerical order. I've tried the Sort by button but this doesn't arrange them into numerical order. Will somebody offer a solution please?

    Colin of Bishopthorpe
If you have your files in numerical order in a folder on the computer hard drive, you should be able to import that whole folder into Premiere Elements 11 via its Add Media/Files and Folders to get the folder into Project Assets (does not matter Grid or List view).
    From the Grid view perspective...
    a. double click the imported folder now in Project Assets
You will find the folder items ordered numerically
    b. if you want to get those ordered items back into the folder, then click on the icon to the right of the search field in Project Assets. That icon will probably be named "My new video .(name of your project)"
Another approach is to create an album for the items in the Elements Organizer that comes with the program and then import the album from Elements Organizer to Premiere Elements in order to keep your numerical sequence.
Until proven otherwise, clicking on the name header in Project Assets (in List view) will not arrange your items in numerical order if they have become unsorted. If your items show up as 98, 100, 101, 102, 103. all that the name clicking will do is to reverse the order (to 103, 102, 101, 100, 98) and not sort them out.
There are some possibilities in the List view using the folder import approach. More details to follow if necessary, but basically move files out and back into the folder in Project Assets List view to get the necessary ordering. But, I find this an unpreferred detail to follow up on.
Please review and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions on anything that I have written.
    Thank you.

  • Missing .PSD codec in Premiere Elements 10?

I started a thread a few days ago about my Instantmovies failing to load all the content necessary for the movie, as indicated they should be by the animated thumbnail preview, but that thread is buried several pages away and nobody has responded to it, so I take it nobody will at this point in time, so I'm updating my experience with this one. I have already spent hours online with Adobe tech support, determined that I have all the most updated drivers, etc. (I'm a new user of Premiere Elements 10 and the problem has always been there, even after reinstalling the program.)
What I have to share that's new is that I went searching within my hard drive for the missing content, assuming that the Instantmovie folders I opened in Premiere Elements show me the full content of these folders, even though some content doesn't seem to be there. I found that there's a lot more content in those folders, if I look at them outside of Premiere Elements. Some of the missing files are .PSDs.
When I tried to load one into my project, for a manual insertion into the timeline of a rendered movie, the program refused and gave me a message saying "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."
So my problem is that the codec SHOULD be intalled but isn't? You reckon that's why the Instantmovies are missing content?
I have Photoshop Elements installed. If it's just a matter of copying a codec from Photoshop Elements and pasting it into a codecs folder of Premiere Elements, where's the codec to be found in the Photoshop Elements folder?
I'm excited that I may be close to solving this agonizing problem.

That's indeed odd.  My original installation was with the downloaded trial edition. Since the Instantmovies weren't working well, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem, so I uninstalled and installed again from the disk set I bought. And there's been no improvement. So the install packages are the same (as Adobe tech support told me) and I encountered no problems doing the installations.
As you may recall from your other responses to a couple of other minor issues involving Premiere Elements, I'm using a Toshiba Satellite, i3 Intel processor, 4 gigs of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.

  • Uninstalling Premiere Elements

I am using Win 7, Premiere Elements 10. I installed it some months ago, but did not have the opportunity to use it at that time. A couple of days ago I fired Premiere up for the first time. The trouble started right from the get-go, the Desktop icon did nothing. No big deal, I found the .exe file and started it up. I tried to start a New Project by getting media from File or Folder. Dragging the file in didn't work. Double-clicking it did. Now I tried to drag the file to the timeline, the screen went a sort of milky white with the program barely visible behind the fog, and an hour-glass. And that's as far as I got. Not only was Premiere frozen, the machine was locked up solid, even CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't didn't work.
So I did a hard shut-down. And started over. And got the same result. Sign of madness? Probably.
I decided to uninstall and re-install. I used Control Panel, and as far as I could tell the uninstalling routine ran normally and there was a message to say the program had been removed (or words to that effect). When I put the CD in to re-install the first thing that came up was "Do you want to uninstall?" No option to Install or Repair. I used Explorer to look for Premiere in C:\Program files. There was an Adobe folder because I do use CS6, and in this folder was a sub-folder, "Adobe Premiere Elements 10." Interestingly this folder had a number of sub-folders, none of which contained the Premiere Elements .exe file. What I found even more intriguing was the vast number of files left behind by the uninstall routine, thousands of them, 2.1+ GIGABYTES in one sub-folder alone, Movie Themes. Hundreds more megabytes in other folders.
Now it may seem unimaginable to anyone in Adobe that someone might actually want to get rid of one of their programs. But I did choose to uninstall, so what possible reason can there be for leaving nearly 3 GIG of trash on my hard drive?
So I went back to the CD, and went with the Uninstall option, AGAIN. I was prompted to De-activate, which I did. The same routine ran, and ended with "...has been removed" AGAIN. Now I put the CD back in the drive, and chose Install. Went through the installation, entered the serial number just like a fresh install. Fired up Premiere and was surprised AGAIN to see that the project, the aborted one, was one of the options.
So if Premiere was uninstalled not once, but twice, how could this all new installation still have a record of that aborted project? This has left me with a deep distrust of anything with Adobe in the title. Why was so much junk left on my machine? And just what do I have to do to get rid of EVERY last trace of Premiere?
If you've got this far I thank you for your patience.
    David

    David,
Given that you have Premiere Elements 10 on Windows 7 64 bit and you want to get rid of it (uninstall from your computer completely). Let us go through the check list and compare notes
    1. Opened Premiere Elements 10 project workspace...Help Menu/Deactivate and do just that. Close the program.
    2. Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program...there are two entries for Premiere Elements 10...
    a. Adobe Premiere Elements 10 (program) with a file size of 1.23 GB
    b. Adobe Premiere Elements 10 (Content) with a file size of 1.23 GB
Consider...when you start the uninstall, one of the intital pages will be "Uninstall Preferences"
    a. you dot either Keep My Preferences
    or
    b. Remove my preferences (in view of your intent, I would select this one)
also on that page is a place for a check mark for "Remove Downloaded Content"...what did you do about that one? In view of your intent, I would select a check mark for this option.
After all that is finished, I would add the finishing touch of
    a. Clearing Documents of the Adobe Folder/Premiere Elements Folder/
    b. cclearner (regular and registry cleaning).
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
And if you have any doubt about the program being gone "completely", go into the Registry and Ctrl + F of Find to get all traces of Adobe Premiere Elements.
Please let us know if all that works for you.
    Thanks.

In the meantime I am evaluating the 'cheaper' and without installing / working / DVD problems and possibly send Adobe discs back for full refund.
My Laptop is fast enough and well kept - not other 'larger' programmes have any problems running or installing [Stenberg Cubase Pro, Flight Simulator X and so on] only Adobe programmes!
I am really getting tired now.
    Regards
    Mobon

    Hello
All problems are carefully separated - not all together, since I am a tidy person by default.
It is very simple and not confusing.
I actually have one main issue with PE7 and PPE7 [which I hope they will care of] and a series of small teething problems as many in these forums have on Premiere 10 since installation because Adobe programmes have 'basic' problems even loading / reading/ converting its own created files.
I looked up for Premiere Elements problems on-line [on external forums] and I can see so many problems and people opting for alternative programmes or getting 2 or 3 different programmes to do the job faster and better - that confirms my thoughts.
I am not here to stir things up [if by any chance you are thinking that], but I am merely trying to use a PAID and SUPPOSED to be GREAT program and it is clearly not my friend.
But if I get pushed up around and treated like a non-in-the-computer-field-person, then I might 'need to' stir things up with 'proves'!
I have been working with computers Hardware and Software since 1975 with the Sir Sinclair Spectrum .
So, I do know one thing or two by working 'manually' and without the 'easy' mouse clicking [!] and my main job these days is to actually fix People's messed up computers, recover data, erase data, etc. and often I find either Apple's or Adobe's programmes not working properly [being the main problem on slower computers] and users tried to fix them and messed things up!
Mainly is Apple programmes [ iTunes is one!] on Windows environment - just pure mess.
In fact I do not keep ANY Apple Programs on ANY my computers any-more and by adding the blooming QuickTime - it actually adds 3 'mostly not needed' applications that must be run in the background only slowing down 'most standard' computers and 'mostly' for no apparent reason but needed by Premiere Elements 10.
Adobe Acrobat Reader too is a kind of an offender in that sense, which I do not use any-more in favour of an alternative and very light program that does not invade your computer.
I could be talking about the above for days ...
The fact I do not know Premiere 10 very well and I am having some teething problems with 'Adobe Premiere Elements 10' does not make me a lower being or anything to the like or even put me aside the forums for being realistic and a human being most of all.
I simply am an  Intermediate / Advanced / Professional Computer User / Repairer [depending on which subject] trying to fix this non-working-properly Adobe's program and get on with his life.
You as an employee perfectly know what I am talking about, the Adobe numerous problems with Elements and pro and the clever Marketing and money making tool Adobe has created around it and I do understand you must keep Adobe's side - of course and that is not a problem at all.
BACK TO THE ONLY PROBLEM THIS THREAD IS OPEN FOR:
Having said that, in the meantime I seem to have solved it myself [as I do most of the time], at least for now.
I am sure many other problems will arise.
    My Solution that worked:
I simply clicked on the time-line [bottom] and then clicked on top menu TIME-LINE [if I am not wrong, it was late night and I might be wrong - do not crucify me please!] and MERGE CLIP and then I let the program do the job I purchased for.
Days ago using the Trial Version [before I purchased Premiere 10] I already read that Premiere does not like either large gaps [I did not have] or even simple clip cuts not merged and it did have 'loads' of problems, but most of them were solved by 'users' mostly.
Anyway, that seems to have done the trick, even thou it did take around 4/5 ours to do 3Gb ! Why?
    My computer is fast.
But I have not checked or burned the files yet - so, I do not know100% - just yet, I will check later on today.
I believe Adobe must prepare a Service Pack with 'Loads' of fixing, there is no place to hide and that may convince users to even 'spend' and buy the PRO version - the ball is in your court now.
I cannot believe Premiere is having so many small teething problems and I am only doing a BASIC test and I can see the vast majority of users of Elements Programs going literally insane and only us, the more Techy ones coping.
    Regards
    M
PS the fact you see an avalanche of problems with my installation is actually normal.
That is because I am a 'fast' and organised Computer Technician which gets on with things and I usually do this with all new programmes to get rid of the possible initial several small hiccups, that other Companies usually fix with Patches - not Adobe, it seems - at least with Premiere elements.
In the last few years are mainly with Adobe Programmes. It is the only way to get the 'basic' program problems fixed straight away, so I do know the next time I run it actually works!
    ADDITION:
    IT WORKS!
