"Access to keychain"

When I open Safari, and frequently while using it, a window pops up that says "Safari wants access to keychain....(followed by my name). Please enter your keychain password or phrase.
If I had a keychain password or phrase, I don't remember what is is! I looked in Safari help but really didn't find anything that seemed to help me.
Any suggestions?

Like many of you, I was sick of trying to figure out how to get rid of that annoying pop-up asking for my Keychain password, while in Safari. I finally got so fed up, I called MacSupport to see if anyone had an answer (Apple's website obviously doesn't, as we all know!).
I no longer have the problem.
Here's what the Support guy told me to do (and it worked):
-First, quit out of Safari and any other applications.
-Open up a window in the Finder.
-Click on yourself (your little house with your name).
-Click on "Library".
-Throw the "Caches" and "Keychains" folders in the Trash.
(WARNING: If you actually use Keychains to keep track of other passwords,
you will have to reset them all afterward. I didn't, so it didn't matter to me).
-Next, click on the "Preferences" folder, and move
"com.apple.keychainaccess. plist" to the Trash.
-Restart your computer.
-Launch Safari. Go to one of the websites the window would normally pop up
on. For me, it was Yahoo.com.
-When the Keychain window pops up, click on "Reset to Defaults". It will then
ask for confirmation. Click "Yes". You will then be prompted to create a
password. I made mine the same as my Login so it'd be easy to remember.
Hope this helps!

  • Safari would like to access your keychain..AGAIN

Safari keeps asking to access my keychain, am I right in thinking this should only happen once?
Ive also noticed an application asking permission to accept incoming connections even though ive clicked accept. It only recently started asking me again
not sure if these are related but its frustrating me a wee bit

I have been havig trouble with iCal repeatedly prompting me to add a new event on its own.  Recently to try and fix this I deleted my calendars, preferences and caches.  I then picked up my calendars from iCloud.  Within about an hour of running iCal again, I get this prompt to allow CoreServicesUIAgent.app access to my calendar.  I said yes and almost immediately I get one of these unwanted add new event dialogs again.  Ah hah I think.
I have been unable to find out what CoreServicesUIAgent.app does and why it needs access to my calendar, but it does seem to be the source of my unwanted automatic adding of new events issue.  I went into the Security and Privacy Setting and disabled CoreServicesUIAgent.app access to my calendar.  I am now waiting to see if I get any more of those unwanted adding new event prompts.  If I can't detect any loss of functionality, I will just not give CoreServicesUIAgent.app access to my calendar.

  • Accessing Old Keychain

    Hi!
i have a problem. I'm trying to access and old keychain password in a secure notes. It's not a keychain I use now, I think it's from a couple of years ago. I can access the keychain but not the passwords. When I click on the secure note I want to open, then click on 'show note', I get 'Access is restricted'. In-fact, all secure notes on this old keychain have the same error message.
I'm trying to figure out how to access the secure note. I've tried running a repair on this particular keychain and it says the user name was not recognized. Can anyone help shed light on this problem? Is there a program software that can help?
    Thanks!

Not doable unless you know the username and password used to create the keychain and the notes.

  • Outlook keeps asking to access my keychain in spite of having checked the "Always allow" option

Don't know whether this is normal  but it began to happen recently ... I bet its a virus.
Ran McAfee ... zero threats detected
Usually the anomaly occurs several times while using Outlook.
A small window appears asking permission to access the POP account confidential information.
If I click "always allow" it doesn't bothers during that session.
If a click "deny"  ... it appears 2 more times in a row ... after that a different window appears asking to access my keychain if I click CANCEL
it doesn't bother for a a while  (never had clicked OK)
I'm under the impression that clicking "deny" also causes my outgoing messages to be retained (not sure)

    Help please.

Is Reminders checked in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Location Services? If not, click the lock in the bottom left to unlock that pane, enable Location Services, check Reminders in the list, and then click the lock icon again...

  • Keynote asked for access to Keychain?

Tonight, out of the blue (as far as I could tell) the Keynote app tried to access the Keychain? (password file).
Is this normal? I told it to decline. But I'm curious why it would need access to root or to passwords, since I've never used the app since I bought it (iWork) 3 months ago.
I'm asking because I have no clue how Apple apps handle security, and I have no A/V software on the machine. I can't imagine why an application that was dormant would need such permissions.

I'd be inclined to post in the Keynote forums here:

You seem to have a 2010 model MBP. The current models (black keys) get their own forum area here:

This forum you found is for MBPs made prior to Late 2008 (silver keys), and there are hardware differences should you need to ask a hardware question.

  • Permanently deny Access to Keychain

In the corporate I work for we are using Microsoft Exchange.
Snow Leopard does a good job with integrating Exchange into iCal, Address Book and Mail.
However I am constantly annoyed with questions about granting access to the "Exchange Access Group" by every single application which uses the Address Book-API.
For instance, getting information about contacts in Adium, Skype or any other application which uses information from Address Book shows me the request for accessing data from Keychain.
As there is no reason why I should grant access to the "Exchange Access Group", I am forced to click on Deny every single time. Is there a way to permanently deny access to Keychain for a given application?
    Regards, Michael

This is not really the point I'm thinking about. I have no problems with my Exchange Accounts. I just mentioned it as it is the most obvious issue I've got with keychain.
To give you another example about my problem:
I'm developing a homepage and as this is work in progress, I want no one to view it. Therefore it is password protected via HTTP authentication. I am using Safari for development so I told it to store my password. So far everything worked well.
Then I added that page to my Top-Sites. Now the PubSupAgent keeps me questioning about the password for that page every hour. This is the little bot of Mac OS X that collects news feeds for Safari and Mail and it does it every hour due to the settings.
I don't want grant access to it because there is no reason. So I'd like to permanently disallow PupSubAgent to access that password from my Keychain.
In Keychain you can specify for every single entry which Application may access it, like a white list. But I don't see a way to specify which Application must not access it as with a black list.
So I'd like to disallow Adium and Skype to access the Keychain entry of the Exchange Access Group. And I'd like to disallow PubSubAgent to access the Keychain entry about the in development page. Just because there is no reason why they should, especially the first case is about sensitive data.

  • How do I access icloud keychain?

I know the password was kept in the icloud keychain?
On my Mac I start up the utility keychain. Put in enough letters too narrow the search, pick the correct password/user name. Authorise viewing the password in plain text. And read the result.
How do I do this with icloud?  I have a couple of websites where I can't authorize it anything.

    Hi Everret.
Aside from keychain, you can access your iCloud keychain on your iOS devices.
All you need to do is go to your Settings > Safari > Password > Autofill > Saved Passwords (you will need to enter your device passcode)
and then you can now view all the saved password from your iOS device.
    Hope it helps

  • "access to keychain forbidden" while adding CalDav account

My problems started when a client's mobile account became disabled after the open directory locked them out.  I was able to "unlock" the account by deleting the a keychain (somehow, I am not so good documenting while under pressure).
Unfortunately, none of their passwords could be saved aftewards.  Most noticebly, I couldn't add a CalDav account to iCal and kept giving me an "incorrect login username or password".
What I eventually figured out after hours of frustration:  there should be 3 keychains: "login", "system" and "System roots" in the "Keychain Access" utility! My problem was I only had the "system" and "System roots" keychains showing up in the upper left pane.
    To add a missing keychain:
Go to "File"-->"New Keychain"-->call it what you'd like --> "Create"
Make sure you remember the password!!
Hope this helps anyone else who comes across this problem.

    Hi Jitendra,
You are required to call web.EnsureUser function to ensure if user exists in web and if not then add it into the web before adding it into the group.
    User csvUser = context.Web.EnsureUser(strLoginName);
    context.Load(csvUser);
    context.ExecuteQuery();
    selectedGroup.Users.AddUser(csvUser);
    selectedGroup.Update();
    context.ExecuteQuery();
Below is the link to project hosted on codeplex for adding users using CSV file using client object model. You can check the code also.

Hope this will help to solve your problem.

  • Help with accessing same keychain data from two apps with bundled appid

I have two ios apps that I'd like to share the same keychain data.
According to the apple docs, this should be possible as long as I've set up the appid with a wild card, which I did from the provisioning portal:
    appid:   bundleID.*
Then, in the AIR for IOS settings of the flash ide, in the App ID field, I made the two apps be members fo the this appid:  bundleID.app1 and bundleID.app2
But when I use the EncriptedLocalStore class to access the data from one of the apps that the other app stored, it isn't available.
But each app, independently, is successfully writing to/reading data from the keychain.
From what I've read, I'm doing everything right.  But clearly I'm not because it isn't working.

    hi dear
the link which you have send is really too helpful
but when i am using the way shown there and as  directed it shows an error that
                 'DataSource - Table not found'
i think this is because the temprary table we r using is neither user defined nor SBO table.
so plz tell me some way.

  • Facetime wants access to keychain every time I boot up.

Every morning, Facetime wants access and I say no.  Then the window comes up again, and I say no.  I have to either accept, accept always, or decline.  No decline always and it's always two times every morning.
How can I get it to stop asking me this?
    Thank you!
    Dave

Well, the thing is I don't use Facetime, so I don't know why it wanted permanent access to my keychain.  We'll see on Monday when I start my computer again if it asks me twice.
    Thanks!

  • Code for giving access to keychain

Is there any way to give keychain access to an app programantically without prompting the dialog?

No app has full access to the keychain. You can give individual apps access to specific keys in Keychain Access.

  • I have a new MacBook Pro.  I keep getting the message (from all different programs) that they would like to access the keychain "login".  I have run keychain repair, and it won't stop!

I have a new MacBook Pro.  I keep getting the message "Mail would like to use your keychain "login".  How can I make this stop?  I have run the keychain repair utility.

    Hi,
With the Finder as the Front app go to the Go Menu > GO to Folder.
Copy and Paste the bold text below into the text field
    ~/Library/Keychains
    Highlight the Keychain.
Use the CMD + i Keys together (Keystrokes for Get Info from the File Menu)
In the Info Panel that appears check the Ownership and Permission bit at the bottom.
    Example Pic
    Unlock Padlock
Check your Shortmname Appears (the (Me) one).
    Open the Cogwheel icon
If it is Greyed Out to "Make "Shortname (Me)" owner then you are the Owner.
Check you have Read and Write Permissions.
You may need to check the Ownership and Permission on the ~/Library itself (you can do the same Get Info on Folders as well as Files)
If you don't Own it then, when you have changed that also Apply to Contents.

  • Cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.

when Update to 10.7.2 ,I cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.
    OS:10.7.2
    Macbook Pro 2010-mid 13inch

I also have the same problem, however if I use Firefox or Opera sites with ssl connection work fine. Still, I can't use Google Chrome (ssl), Safari (ssl), the Mac app store (generally), or the iTunes store (generally). Both the iTunes store, Safari and the app store won't respond, and Chrome displays this error: (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT). The problem persists regardless of what network I'm using. Also, when trying to access the keychain or iCloud, the process will not start (will hang). I didn't have these problems at all before updating to 10.7.2.
Sometimes rebooting helps, and sometimes not. If the problem disappears by rebooting, then it only lasts a few minutes before it reappears. It is very frustrating, especially since there doesn't seem to be any obvious or consistent way of which to fix it.
    I'm also using a Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2010.

  • Why is iPhoto asking for keychain access to confidential Facebook "something"??

I've recently upgraded to Lion and the newest iPhoto '11 and I keep getting a pop-up from iPhoto "iPhoto wants access confidential keychain (something) with api.Facebook" or something like that. What is this? Does anyone else have information about what this is and why it's asking?? I've been denying. There is an allow, allow always and deny (but of course not a "deny always") and I have no idea what this is. Please help! Thanks.
