Access to metalink

Hi all - quick question - I can obviously get to the forums ok but when I click on a Metalink document anyone suggests I read, I can't view it, I just get
My Oracle Support screen coming up with a warning saying that 'Access to all other features from My Oracle Support is not available'
There is a pending request from when I first tried to register using the CSI I was given with a request status of pending and when I click on view administrators
I can see the email of the previous DBA who has since left.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this please as I'm not getting very far contacting Oracle

Only users who have paid suppport can access MOS. Purchase a support contract.
If you have a support contract then just use the MOS home page, register and have at it.

Metalink access question.

Hi,
I am having issues installing Siebel (in a test environment), and was wondering if having access to Metalink may help me.
Does anyone know if purchasing a database standard edition product, with support give me access to Siebel articles on Metalink ?
Or would that be limited to just the product I purchase ?

Your error indicates it is an Adobe Flash issue - pl uninstall and reinstall the latest version of Flash from Adobe.

Unable to access Metalink to download patched 8.1.7

We need to download the latest patch level for 8i but we cannot access the Metalink system. We contacted OTN and they sent the following note in an email.
We are aware of the KnowledgeBase issue and are working to resolve it. We will
send an email out when access has been restored and we also plan on extending
all subscriptions for 2 months to account for the downtime.

The thing that is confusing me is that I was able to do this (access and save a copy of Macintosh HD files while on the Windows partition) after my initial install of Windows 8.1 with Boot Camp. Disregarding trying to access individual files, shouldn't I still be able to see the Macintosh HD partition in the "This PC" (Formerly My Computer) folder? While on my Macintosh HD parition I can see the Windows partition and access all the files and even save individual files to the mac side, I just can't seem to do it the other way around.

I agreed on that it is NOT allowed to get info from metalink without the proper license.
Oh, I didn't know this. At least someone look into it and tell what is it all about and how the same could be achieved, if possible. Thanks.I guess the first reply told me this fact.

You need to purchase a Personal Edition license. You can get that for one year, two years, five years or forever.
Once you have a product license, you need to purchase the support contract. It's the support contract that gets you access to metalink.
The support contract is renewed every year (repeated to the maximum years of the license). The support renewal costs a fee each year. However, you do not need to purchase a new license if the current license is still valid.

i've just replaced my friends position in a company, so i decided to change his previous metalink account to become my identities. (esp for the email address).
i've just successfully done the account verification but when i tried to access the metalink page, it's said that "account setup is still in progress. check back later". since i was in a hurry to create a new SR and i'm quite a newbie here, do you guys know, how long oracle will take to setup the new account ? since i'm just trying to modify / change the email address, that doesnt mean i'm changing also the whole identity, right ? because all the previous SR which already created by my successor is still fully needed by me.

Shouldnt Metalink literature be made available for learning aspirants?

When i was working for an organization earlier i would often use metalink for clearing my doubts.
But now when i am not working i am missing it thoroughly as when i am embarking about learning the basics of Backup & Recovery,RMAN and other details.
Shouldn't people associated with metalink consider making some of the content public+ (at least read -only) ,so that interested people can get to basic resolution notes easily?
I am not saying that it should provide all facility to anyone and everyone like current one where users can raise TAR & use it for numerous other purposes.But even a read-only format of most basic things should be really helpful.

KunwarI was trying to reference a post made by Hans indicating that purchase of personal oracle (and subsequent support) can be used to gain access to metalink.
Restricting Metalink to supported customers is a (perhaps not massively unreasonable) commercial decision by Oracle.
It peoples not on support gained access to metalink they'd only start moaning about paches and patchsets ......
.... but I wont get drawn any further than that into the argument.
.... Any if more users are granted access it might grind to a total halt completely from some recent moans I have heard.
IMHO There's enough information available to do basic and intermediate (and even advanced) backup / recovery training without metalink . I suppose one may argue metalink might make available some extra current best practices.

Now I am working private and would like to have my own metalink account.
How much does it cost to subscribe for a year?
How much are the least fee and what service do I get from this account?
Is there a different level of previlages based on the amount I pay?

I'm not sure to understand very well what means exactly "Unless specifically provided in your licensing or distribution agreement with Oracle", but within a simple contract, Joe should not be allowed to share information from Metalink getting with its own Metalink account with Foo.
Well, it is a debate, if we can easily understand that Joe cannot create SR and download patches for Foo, the Metalink notes are more difficult to control the usage of. Does Joe already knew this issue and how to solve it, or did he learn the "workaround" from one specific Metalink note to solve the current case ?

Install R12 on a Virtual Machine hosted on Windows Vista

I wanted to install Oracle EBS R12.1.1 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit but used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error. Hussein Sawwan
helped and said that this is not certified. He adviced me to create a VMWare Server. Following is my experience. I hope it is helpful. Any
suggestions, additions are more than welcome. Thanks to all who helpmed me especially Hussein Sawwan, Helios, Gareth Roberts.
I used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error after the installation would zoom through 33%. That was because my staging area was not correct. The staging area should be just next to c:\ or whatever be the root directory (or drive). No space or special characters in folder name. My current structure is as follows:
c:\r12stage. Under r12stage I have following folders and subfolders
oraAppDB -- 49 Disks
oraApps -- 11 Disks
oraAS -- 3 Disks (This comes from the Rapid Install Tools)
oraDB -- 5 Disks
startCD -- 1 Disk plus other folders. Just copy startcd from the unzipped download and paste to r12stage area.
I then created a virtual machine using VMWare Server (free download but need to register to get the serial number). Because I installed
vmware server on Vista Home Premium 64 bit Host OS, I have to boot my machine by pressing F8 and then select Disable Digital Signature
Enformcement. Thanks to Gareth Roberts for this tip. Create a vm and install Windows 2003 by selecting the .img file (first cd) by selecting Use ISO image and then path of the windows 2003 cd 1 (zipped file). start the virtual machine, that will install windows 2003 and then ask for location of 2nd cd. On the host machine, where the second win 2003 zip file resides, unzip the second zip file and name the folder as cd2. share this folder to the __vmware_user__ and from the virtual machine, map network drive to \\hostmachinename\cd2. Select this as the location of cd2 and complete the installation. After installation is done and Windows Update is run, share the r12stage directory on the host machine to the vmuser and launch rapidwiz.cmd from the command prompt and follow the instruction. For internet connection from the VM use Ethernet as NAT.
If the installation errors halfway through, clean up your VM by following instructions in document id 292424.1 in MetaLink. If you dont have access to Metalink then I summarize the steps briefly over here.
Launch the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software key.
Select the Apache Group subkey and delete it.
Select the Oracle subkey and delete it.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current Control Set\Services.
Carefully select and delete each service beginning with Oracle. For example, delete "Oracle Apache Server PROD_<nodename>".
When you are finished, exit the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the Environment Variables editing screen according to your system setup. For example, right-click My Computer and select
Properties. From the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button.
Select the following system variables if created during the failed installation, and delete them: DISCO_JRE, DISCO_VBROKER, JSERV,
VBROKER_JAVAVM, VBROKER_TAG, WV_GATEWAY.
Select the Path variable, but do not delete it. Carefully edit it and remove any component with "Oracle" in the name, or that otherwise
references the failed install. For example, delete "E:\11.5.10\test\visora\8.0.6\bin;".
Save and exit System Properties.
Open a command window and navigate to the C:\Program Files\ directory. Delete the Oracle subdirectory.
If your Oracle Inventory directory was not C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory and was therefore not deleted in the previous step, locate it
and delete it.
Restart your machine
It is now safe to remove the Oracle filesystem that was partially installed during the failed installation. Go to the base install directory,
or top-level directory under which you installed either the Database Server (DATA, DB) or the Applications Tier Server (APPL, ORA, COMN)
directories, or both. Note that you may choose to rename a directory before you delete it. This allows you to use the same directory name and start a new installation even before you finish the delete filesystem operation. For example, if you placed your filesystem in a "test" directory under
"E:\11.5.10":
C:\> E:
E:\> cd 11.5.10
E:\> rename test oldtest
E:\> del /s /q oldtest
In another window:
C:\> cd <stage install directory>
Q:\> rapidwiz.cmd
After cleaning up if you still get error like RW-50004: Error Code received when running external process. Check log file for
details. Running database Install driver for VIS instance, after 13% complte step 1 of 5 then I suggest that you re-create the machine and follow the above steps again. Including installing win 2003, mks tool kit , vc++, etc. It will be a success.
Starting concurrent manager takes up enormous memory and slows down everything, so if you dont need it then dont ever start it. APPS password is apps and sysadmin user is sysadmin.

I had Vista 64-bit machine, installed Ubuntu in VMWare. Installed Oracle apps on 32-bit Ubuntu under VMware and was able to access Oracle apps. But, it is very very slow. It hangs sometimes and takes 15-20mins to display Ubuntu screens. Am I missing something here. I have a 4GB RAM and VMWare can not use all the 4GB. It may be using 2GB of 4GB. Am I missing something?

How to install Demantra on 64-bit machine so that all components work?!!

I'm using 64-bit windows 7. I first installed Oracle DB 10.2.0.4 x64, then Demantra 7.3 x64. Some component of Demantra didn't work, wouldn't open giving me the following error "Can't connect to database Oracle library OCI.dll or ORA803.dll couldn't be loaded". Only then I read official installation notes for Demantra which say:
You can run Oracle Demantra on either a 32-bit or 64-bit Oracle database. However, the Oracle Demantra Installer and these applications run in 32-bit mode, so you must use the 32-bit Oracle database client to install Oracle Demantra and use these applications:
* Business Modeler
* Member Management
* Chaining Management
* Oracle Demantra forecasting engine
How do I "use the 32-bit Oracle database client to install Oracle Demantra"? Give me a bit more detailed answer if you can, as I'm not an expert. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't have Oracle SID and access to metalink. We're about to get into contractual agreement, but it's still in the workings. My original problem was solved by way of using virtual machine (32 XP) on top of Windows 7 64. However there are other issues standing in the way of our training. Do you know whether 7.3.0.1 has seeded demo data? (7.2 had it, and 7.3.0 didn't). Desperately need to a big nice rich dataset for 7.3. Any help greatly appreciated.
