Access to VPN and Skype from behind work's firewall

I'm running a Powerbook G4 with OS 10.4.11. At work I have a very fast ethernet connection perfect for internet and Work (Exchange) email, however I can't seem to access my Uni email account, VPN or several other services, notably Skype or iChat (as I work away from my kids during the week this is vitally important). I can ping the server for the VPN and both sets of IT boffins assure me that all appropriate ports are open. I can access the VPN through PCs and I am at the moment broadcasting the internet through my Airport to a PC based laptop which is running Skype quite happily. I can go to a local pub/coffee shop and access all of the services through a WiFi/Airport Network, and I have access to all these services when I'm at home (again through WiFi). What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
yes, the spilt into three subnets did help. I now can see the routers also from the LAN which solves Problem A)
Regarding the access from WAN1 to WAN2 the background is a long story about different flatrates from Provider A and B. To keep it short: DSL is stable but very slow during some hours of the day and attached to WAN2, LTE (4G) is fast but not stable (at least 2-3 hickups per day). Therefore I need the RV042 to keep the LAN clients always online as I need it for my job. The telephone is another issue. The fritzboxes do allow VOIP over their own Internet connection but also using another Fritzbox is possible. I have my telephones connected to the DSL Box (WAN2 = 192.168.179 now) and I have a flatrate for calls to cell phones with my 4G provider (WAN1 = 192.168.178 now). As the 4G keeps failing from time to time it is very annoying when it happens during a telco (and we all know Murphys law). So the ideas is to have the telphones attached to the stable (WAN2) DSL Box and reroute it for calls to cell phones via WAN1 ( which is a feature of the boxes and worked perfectly). If the 4G fails the DSL Box uses its own Internet connection to make the call (but then I have to pay for it).
So I need access from WAN2 (192.168.179) to WAN1 (192.168.178). I tried a static route in the WAN2 Box but it didn't work (I've used the RV042 WAN interface IP: 192.168.179.100 as Gateway).
Kind regards
Klaus

Honestly I don't know if it's a Lion or MS problem eihter. I have been using Lion for many months with Office 2011 with no problems though. The earliest version I had on my machine was 2008 and 2011 opened those files with no problems at all. As Dave mentioned earlier he opens Office 2004 files all the time with 2011.
One thing you might want to do is restart the computer while holding down the Option key then select the Restore Volume and run Disk Utility and repair the Disk Permissions on the HD. Run DP at least 2x.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

  • IpSec VPN and NAT don't work togheter on HP MSR 20 20

    Hi People,
I'm getting several issues, let me explain:
I have a Router HP MSR with 2 ethernet interfaces, Eth 0/0 - WAN (186.177.159.98) and Eth 0/1 LAN (192.168.100.0 /24). I have configured a VPN site to site thru the internet, and it works really well. The other site has the subnet 10.10.10.0 and i can reache the network thru the VPN Ipsec. The issue is that the network 192.168.100.0 /24 needs to reach internet with the same public address, so I have set a basic NT configuration, when I put the nat configuration into Eth 0/0 all network 192.168.100.0 can go to internet, but the VPN goes down, when I remove the NAT from Eth 0/0 the VPN goes Up, but the network 192.168.100.0 Can't go to internet.
I'm missing something but i don't know what it is !!!!, See below the configuration.
Can anyone help me qith that, I need to send te traffic with target 10.10.10.0 thru the VPN, and all other traffic to internet, Basically I need that NAT and VPN work fine at same time.

If you want to post the switches tab, upload it to someplace like http://img3.imageshack.us/, copy the thumbnail (which has the link to the original)  back here, and you are golden.
I had a bear of a time getting the microphone working on my HP DV4, but it does work.  I'll look at the set up when I get home tonight [USA-PDT].
Sorry for the picture and the "bumping"... I have asked in irc in arch and alsa channels and no luck yet... one guy from alsa said I had to wait for the alsa-driver-1.0.24 package (currently I have alsa-driver-1.0.23) but it is weird because the microphone worked some months ago...

  • Windows 10 and Skype - doesn't work for me

Had perfectly settled, working Skype on Windows 8.1 (Pro) config Upgrade to Win 10 (release). Skype client won't log in any more.> It's not account details - I can log in on the WEB on the same machine.> Completely un-installed Skype following help instructions. Re-install. Client fires up, accepts username/pwd, but won't log in - spinning circle.> other apps needing internet are working fine (Edge browser, Chrome). I can't find any tools to help me diagnose what's going on. Really important app for me - help welcome!

I tried the app data, rename old file.  At first it looked like it worked, but then right back to spinning balls.  But almost as important it WOULD NOT let me sign in with my Skype ID.  It would only let me sign in and then create a new ID associated with my Microsoft (old hotmail) e-mail.  Obviously that is not what I want. So hopefully it works for you, but deleteing the %appdata% user file clearly isn't fixing the root issue. I have checked my firewall and Skype is allowed.  Same Bitdefender settings that used to work.  Also, in re-starting it several times, Skype now wants two factor authentication everytime I sign in!!!!  Obviously, that is a huge time waster. Spent hours searching the interwebs as we use Skype for business communications.  What I have found is it is clearly the early August update to Windows 8 and 10 that broke it.  There are no for sure fixes that I have found.  Mostly check your firewall and then the rename your user data file as above, and few or no reported cases of sucess.  Hope someone takes this seriously at Skype, we are down on a critical business use for Skype for a few weeks, starting to feel been sold a bill of goods.

  • HT201240 I cant access my macbook .. I made it no access to everyone and now it not working

I just made my macbook no access for everyone
And now its locked and when i start it i stoke in a white page and an apple on the middle

This solution will erase and rebuild your systems access control lists.
    1) Start up in single user mode (hold command + S at boot)
Run the bolded commands in succession:
    2) chmod -R -N /Users/username (username=your short user name. the name of your home folder)
-this will remove the current access control lists
    3) chown -R username:staff /Users/username
-give you ownership of your own account again
    4) chown -R 600 /Users/username
-set RW access to the owner of the account on all directories in account
    5) reboot
Note that this is a rough way to gain access back to your account and will not perfectly reconstruction all the standard permissions of some folders.

  • Setting up a VPN on OSX lion behind a openbsd firewall

    Hello All,
I've been trying to get a VPN up and running on OSX Lion (10.7.4) behind an openbsd firewall.
    I'm currently using L2TP only.
From what I've read I think I have the correct ports being forwarded:
    udp 500,1701,4500
    tcp 1723
From an IPhone I am able to connect and authenticate but traffic does not get routed through the VPN.
Is there anything obvious I'm missing?
    Thanks in advance.

    more information:
I was attempting to get an iphone set up to use this VPN. It was able to authenticate but it seems it would not route any traffic through the VPN.
I was just able to get my linux laptop configured to use the OSX VPN via openswan, which I think was slightly more difficult due to NAT on both ends.
Any tips for getting IOS working with this OSX VPN behind the firewall? Thanks.

  • Access Anywhere VPN and Remote Desktop

I have a recently installed Win 2012 Essentials server.  I have VPN, Remote Web Access, enabled.  I can use Remote Web Access and login to see my remote desktops and drives, but VPN is not working.  Both are enabled.  I'm not able to
use the wizard to config but my firewall has 443 open.  My clients say they can't see the server when disconnected from the local network.
The VPN connects but says it can access the server.
    Not sure where to look.

    Hi Kevin,
Based on your description, it seems that Remote Web Access ran as normal. Would you please let me know whether
get any error message when configure Anywhere Access?
Please click Setting option in Dashboard. Navigate to Anywhere Access tab in Settings panel and click ‘Repair…’
button. Then check if find some relevant clues.
In addition, please refer to following article and check if can help you.

  • Isight is not working on ichat and skype, however will work on photo booth and imovie.

My isight will not work on ichat or skype, saying that there is no camera connected. isight will work in photo booth and imovie. It shows up in the system profiler. Have tried resetting SMC. Help?

    (1) Here is how I would proceed to isolate the underlying problem that requires corrective action.
    • Shut down everything.
    • Then restart modem and allow its self-test to complete.
    • Then restart router or wireless access point (if you have them) and allow self-test to complete.
    • Then restart Mac.
    • Use  > Software Update... (Update your Apple software if not current.)
    • Then test Photo Booth or iMovie with no other apps else running to ensure they still work.
    • Then quit your test app and try iChat with no other apps else running.
    • If iChat works, quit iChat and try Skype with no other apps else running.
    (2) If iChat works but Skype does not,
    • Verify that you are using the latest version of Skype that is compatible with your OS X (10.5.8) Mac.
    • Update if necessary.
    • Then test Skype again with no other apps else running.
    • If Skype problems remain but your camera works with everything else, Skype's comprehensive support system should best be able to help you use their product with your system.
    Start here:  https://support.skype.com/
Or, click this link for help specifically related to Mac video calls.
You can also search or post for help with your problem in Skype's dedicated Skype Discussions for Mac.  The Skype users who post there may have already solved the same problem.
If nothing else works, you can even sign in and ask for email help directly from Skype's Technical Support people.
    (3) If you still have trouble with more than one app, you may need to use Disk Utility to:
    • repair permissions,
    • repair your disk,
    • or even reinstall Mac OS.
If you reinstall OS X 10.5, use the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to return to the latest version in one update step.

I installed Skype and contacted a friend. I can see her, but she can't see me.
The problem appears to be with my iSight; the Skype preferences can't detect a camera.
    I'm on a Macbook running 10.5.2.

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Dan Jacoby
Try the relevant suggestions from Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If Skype it the only app that gives you trouble in any user account, see the comprehensive Skype Help pages for your Skype-specific problem.

  • How to access TestStand Event and variables from external application?

    Hi all
The test system was built by TestStand, now there is a new requirement to filter the test report without change the sequence file. The task must be done without any impact to previous software system, so I decide to write a tool by VC++.
My idea is to deal with the reports after every UUT loop, but I need to monitor the UUT loop status by VC++, if an unit is tested, pass or fail, raise a event and pass to VC++ application. In a word, I would like to access TestStand internal event and variables.
Anyone has ideal on this case? ActiveX or something.
    thanks .

    paulbin,
While sharing variables via COM or DCOM is certaintly possible, I don't think you need to go down that route.  I think that there is probably an easier way to limit your report.  In your Configuration menu, under the Report Options item, there is a field at the top that will allow you to filter what steps go into your report.
This will not affect any sequence file you may have already created, all it does is change a few options in the ReportOptions.ini file in the <TestStand>\cfg directory.
This is a much simpler option than trying to write a program to interface with a running TestStand engine.
