Access XML File in JAR file

Hi I am trying to access a XML file which is present within a JAR file. The xml file needs to be accessed from class files within the jar. The class files within the jar use the xml file as a config file.
The jar is used by external programs during their runtime.
Can someone help me with some info on where I can begin.
Thanks

DrClap, Thank you very much. It works. You certainly are a qualified Dr.

    Hi,
    You can use DWR (Direct Web remoting) for that. It is easy AJAX for java. ou can directly call the java script function from java class and also java class from javaScripts..

  • Accessing files from jar file when running application?

    I have an application that when run should read an xml file (test.xml) from a jar file located in a resource folder. I do this:
        File f = null;
        URL url = this.getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("test.xml");
        try {
          f = new File(url.getPath());
    //      f = new File(url.toURI());
        } catch (Exception e) {
          throw new GeneratorException("Preload input not found!");
        }The file is found in the jar but when I want to use it I get problems:
    when doing:
    f = new File(url.getPath());
    this file is not found and when doing:
    f = new File(url.toURI());
    I get and:
    URI is not hierarchical exception
    Is there now way to convert the xml file in the jar file to a File object?

    fedevaps wrote:
    But is there now otherway to create a File from the URL?Only if the URL refers to a file in the first place. Which it doesn't when the URL refers to an entry in a ZIP file because an entry in a ZIP file is not a file.
    java.io.File refers to physical files in the sense that the operating system uses it. It can't refer to Files on remote machines, it can't refer to "files" stored in .ZIP files and it can't refer to some random String that you construct.
    Usually when you think you need a File object in Java, you don't actually need it. There are only a handful of operations that you can do with a File object that can't be done with a URL as well (deleting, renaming are two that come to my mind). Reading from it and writing to it works with a File as well as with an URL.

  • How can I access EJB  through executable jar file?

    Hello buddies!!
    I wonder if anyone could give me an explanation of how accessing EJB through executable jar file?Thanks!!

    Hi there,
    You'll need to install the J2EE SDK on the client and include the <j2ee install dir>\lib\j2ee.jar file in your CLASSPATH along with the Client Jar file that was generated by the deploytool when you deployed the application.
    In your client code the Context properties are as follows:
    Properties p = new Properties();
    p.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.cosnaming.CNCtxFactory");
    p.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "iiop://hostname:portnumber");
    Context cntx = new InitialContext(p).Hope this helps

  • How to list files from .jar file in applet?

    I have created applet and export all files to .jar file.
    I use File.list() method in applet to list files from one directory and that works ok but if I try to do that from web browser it sends exception AccessDenied meaning that File.list() isn't allowed in browser.

    I will post here my code so that can be seen what I want to do:

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How to run .class file and .jar file in jdev9i

    I want to run .class file and .jar file in jdev9i,what should I do?
    Also,I want to generate .class file and .jar file in jdev9i,what should i do?

    Add the .class file containing the public static void main(...) method to the project by clicking on the + toolbar button in the navigator, open the project properties and properly set the additional classpath then right click on the .class in the navigator and say run. It should work, I've just tried it.
    Doesn't work for a .jar yet, in JDeveloper 9.0.3 it works both for .class and .jar

  • Accessing Files in Jar File as part of Web App

    I have put a number of NON-CLASS files in a jar file that resides in WEB-INF/lib in my webapp (running tomcat). These include xml files, xml schemas, images, etc. I would like to give my webapp programmatic access to these non-class files, such as providing the user with a list of all of the xml files in the jar file. I have seen a number of posts on this topic, but no answers.
    I have tried everything that I can think of, to no avail. ServletContext.getResource() with just about any path fails. If I do: ServletContext.getResourcePaths(), I get a list of all of the jar files in WEB-INF/lib (as well as other resources). The jar files are listed as: "jndi:/localhost/WEB-INF/lib/XXXXX.jar". If I use that value in ServletContext.getResource(), it does not work. It appears that I need to set up a JNDI context if I want to get the jar file, using: File f = (File)context.lookup(...). this may or may not work, but I can't figure out how to set up the JNDI context for purposes of tomcat. Right now, this is the only thing that I can think of.
    It would also be great if there was some way to take a path in the jar file, treat it as a directory, and list all of the files in that "directory".

    Thanks. That got me started. You need to put the full path to the file you want. here is the full code, either for getting an individual file or for getting the entire jar file, so that you can enumerate through it and read any file you want (this is for a non-binary file):
    URL url = this.getClass().getResource("/path/path/path/file.xml"); // need full path
    if(url != null)
         JarURLConnection conn = (JarURLConnection)url.openConnection();
         JarFile jarfile = conn.getJarFile();
         JarEntry jarEntry = conn.getJarEntry();
         BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(jarfile.getInputStream(jarEntry)));
         StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
         String line = null;
         while((line = br.readLine()) != null)
                   sb.append(line);
                   sb.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
         br.close();
    String fileContents = sb.toString();

  • How to access images in a jar file

    Hello,
    I am currently developping a swing application that uses icons (gif files) and I have zipped all my classes and images in a single .jar file.

  • In Oracle 10g for XML  parsing what jar files have to be loaded?

    I am trying to parse the sample xml file. I want to know what are the jar files which needs to be loaded in Oracle 10g. In Oracle 9i I have files which have been asked to load in to the database.
    1) xmlparserv2.jar and
    2) xmlplsql.jar
    But in Oracle 10g under lib I could see only xmlparserv2.jar.What are the jar files which have to be loaded using loadjava in this case?

    Something like this ?
    SELECT REGEXP_REPLACE('TABLE_COLUMN_1_ID,TABLE_COLUMN_2_VALUE,TABLE_COLUMN_3_DESC',
                          '([^,]+)', ' \1 = \1') x
    FROM DUAL;

    TABLE_COLUMN_1_ID = TABLE_COLUMN_1_ID, TABLE_COLUMN_2_VALUE = TABLE_COLUMN_2_VALUE, TABLE_COLUMN_3_DESC = TABLE_COLUMN_3_DESC

  • Distributing xml schema in Jar file

    I am using an xml schema to validate an incoming xml document and want to distribute the schema as a resource file in the application Jar file.
    The schema location entered in the xml document can be overridden in the Java program by setting a parser property "http://apache.org/xml/properties/schema/external-schemaLocation". This relates a namespace to the schema location on the file system, either absolute or relative (following so far ??).
    Any ideas about how to define the schema location if the file is stored as a resource in a Jar file ?

    Hi,
    I have a related question.
    I have a MasterSchema.xsd which includes 2 sub-schema's, schema1 and schema 2 using include schemaLocation as shown below
    <?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?><xsd:schema xmlns:xsd = "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
    elementFormDefault = "qualified">
    <xsd:include schemaLocation = "schema1.xsd"/>
    <xsd:include schemaLocation = "schema2.xsd"/>
    </xsd:schema>
    I am using the parser.setProperty to associate the MasterSchema.xsd with the instance. Like so,
    parser.setProperty("http://apache.org/xml/properties/schema/external-noNamespaceSchemaLocation","MasterSchema.xsd");
    I am registering an entity resolver with the parser and the entity resolver handler is an inner class. Shown below
    parser.setEntityResolver(new EntityResolver() {
    public InputSource resolveEntity(String publicId, String systemId)
    if (systemId.endWith("MasterSchema.xsd") {
    return new InputSource(("/absolute_path/MasterSchema.xsd");
    } else if (systemId.endsWith("schema1.xsd")) {
    return new InputSource(("/absolute_path/schema1.xsd");
    } else if (systemId.endsWith("schema2.xsd")) {
    return new InputSource("("/absolute_path/schema2.xsd");
    } else {
    return null;
    The parser finds the MasterSchema.xsd but not the included schema1.xsd and schema2.xsd. Any ideas?
    I am using the external-noNamespaceSchemaLocation instead of external-schemaLocation since I am not using any namespace.
    Thanks
    Mary.
