Access97 migration hangs
Hi,
Trying to migrate a small Access97 database (on Windows 98) to Oracle 8.0.6 (on HP-UX 10.20)
Migration Workbench 1.3.1.0.0 is installed on the Windows 98 client. Also installed is MSAccess plugin, version 1.3.1.0.0
Creation of models, target tablespace, target tables, target users all proceed without error. Then the Assistant hangs after it logs this line :
'Action : Moving Message : Migrating Table Data'
It hangs forever. I look in the target database, dynamic table 'V$SESSION_WAIT' and find a row for my session with this value in the 'message' column :
'SQL*Net message from client'
Does this mean the target database is waiting for the client (the migration workbench) ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You have to put in Target Disk Mode the Mac from where you are going to transfer the files, in your case, the MacBook. After putting your MacBook in Target Disk Mode, the MacBook will only show a FireWire icon on the display.
Now, the MacBook Pro is detecting your MacBook's hard drive as an external drive, so you can do whatever you want. Migration Assistant will bring you the option to migrate from another hard drive, so it will detect your MacBook's hard drive and it will migrate your files from here. The same if you are trying to migrate the data from Setup Assistant.
To put the computer in Target Disk Mode, connect a FireWire cable and hold the T key while your computer is starting

I am trying to migrate sql2k database to O9i using OMWB 2.0.2.0.0
Before I ran sp_changedbowner('sa') on the sql server I was getting many errors in capturing the system tables. Now it just hangs on 'Capturing Loading SS2K_SYSCOMMENTS' with jwre using 100% processor.
I tried to generate Metadata using bcp, but several tables get 'abnormal termination' after an 'assertion failure' error.
Below is the error log (truncated many 'java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01418: specified index does not exist' from then end)

Migration fails. I restored the new 13 Retina Macbook Pro in recovery. I keep getting hangs. Using an ethernet cord with the thunderjunk adapter from my 2010 Macbook. It hangs at 1hour 28 minutes, it has been there for 2 hours. The sleep is off on the source but it just sits. I'm guessing that this is a calculation read fail rather than an actual fail. I am going to test that by letting it keep going. Is this like something Apple left unfinished because if it is not actually finish users will repeatedly shut down and restore over and over,It's ridiclously painful.
The solution .
1) Maverick does not recognize older apps, or any apps really
(I checked thisby removing all the appsbut the ones that work with Maverick)
When you get to the Migration Assistant screen , uncheck Applications.
These applications will function perfectly in Maverick but you must reinstall
them from your original disc. It refuses to recognize them and
will lock up.
2) On both source and reciving Mac , turn off everthing in Energy Saver. Anything to do with sleep, sleepng your hard drive and or even screen saver. I hear people say do it for just the source but
Migration Assistant was still going to black screen on my 13 Retina Macbook Pro -
I acquired a new Macbook Pro laptop using 10.7.3. I have tried to use the Migration Assitant multiple times and it stops at 2 hours 7 minutes to go. Nothing ever seems to transfer.
I ran disk first aid and fixed a number of permission issues. Still it hangs up.
Tried to transfer files only and it seemed to run, but no files transfered.
I would like to download IDVD, Aperture, Word, Excell and Powerpoint but there seems to be no way to get files to transfer, any ideas?

Sounds like a directory problem on the old Mac. Did you run Repair Disk on it?
I have Aperture running now. But I'd like to get my address book, bookmarks for safari, and four applications moved if I can. I have got most everything running by manual reloading, good thing I don't subscribed to Apples idea of the cloud completely, without the DVDs of the programs I'd have been stuck.
Those are going to be difficult to do, as you'll have to copy into an existing user account (and why it's best to use Setup Assistant if possible).
For Address Book, you need to replace the entire ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder.
For Safari bookmarks, the ~/LIbrary/Safari/bookmarks.plist file.
Depending on what the 4 apps are, you may be able to just copy them, but that may or may not work. Your safest route is to reinstall them from the original discs. -
Time Machine Migration hanging on "Less than one minute remaining"
I decided to take a risk with my iMac and do an erase and install with Leopard, the version of OS X it's been running for years now. The reinstall went fine migration assistent got me started transferring my information from my Time Machine external USB 2.0 hard drive. It said it was just over 200 GB of information. That proceeded fine until it reached the "Less than one minute remaining" mark. It's been sitting here for over 12 hours in the "transferring files to support applications" process. What should I do? Is it alright for me to manually turn off the computer and re-boot? There is no cancel button or anything. I do get the pleasant clunking sound when I hit enter.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have connected both computers with a cable, disconnect and connect that cable again, so migration should continue. If it doesn't work, restart your MacBook Pro and check that all the files have been transferred. If not, open Migration Assistant and transfer your files -
MobileMe gallery migration hanging for days
Progress bar been sitting at about 5% for days now. Apple has released 2 software updates to iPhoto since they inititiated this process and neither have made a difference.
I have these galleries as albums in iPhoto anyway so don't really care about migrating them. Would just like to kill the process once and for all.
Any ideas appreciated...Would just like to kill the process once and for all.
Then just (force) quit iPhoto.
Relaunch, and when the "Mobile Me" alert appears, select the "Learn more" button, not the "o.k". Ignore the web page that appears.
In iPhoto open the "Preferences" from the iPhoto menu and open the "accounts" tab. Remove the "Mobile Me" account.
Then open the System Preferences as well, select the "Mobile Me" preferences and either sign out of Mobile Me right away, or use the "visit me.com" button to download your web content directly. That will be much faster then downloading from iPhoto.
In most cases, the above did the trick. But if the above does not work, because iPhoto already has started to download, turn off your internet connection before trying again.
Also, in some cases it has been necessary to remove the iPhoto preference file from the user library.

Migration Hangs and Adding Yahoo Account Hangs
I recently had my hard drive replaced and tried to transfer from the backup drive, but the migration hung for hours and didn't seem to progress. I wound up doing a complete restore instead which at least got my iiMac back to its original state. I also tried to delete and read my Yahoo account, but it hung again. I reinstalled the operating system and there wasn't any change. Disk was clean and didn't require any repairs. I had no problem with the Yahoo delete/add on my other computer. Any ideas? Problems related?
Maybe, maybe not, but we need to start someplace.

IPhoto migration hangs, can't upgrade Library
I saw a couple similar posts on this, but the solutions given aren't working. We have copied over the Library contents intact from old iMac to new one (via Firewire). Launching iPhoto gives message about "must upgrade, may take a few minutes..." That process starts, cooks fine for 4-5 minutes, status bar progressing OK, then hangs with 10 or 11 minutes remaining. No change for hours, must force quit to get out. I've tried this with Activity monitor running and the CPU drops to nothing at the stuck point. brain-dead.
Tried option-launch to specify library location, no help. Tried copying iPhoto Library to desktop, then specifying library location, no help. I'm not seeing all the steps that TD suggested for another user with same problem, (the move to desktop solution), so can't replicate further. Please help! Thanks!Given that the upgrade stops at the same point it suggests there’s something in the Library that is causing the problem.
Try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

2007 to 2013 Mailbox migrations hang at 95%
We are in the process of migrating from 2007 to 2013. 2013 is installed with CU2, new mailboxes created on 2013 work fine, mail is routing between both servers, etc. The only issue we seem to be having is we can't migrate mailboxes from 2007 to 2013. We
are testing migration with test email accounts with just a couple emails in them. We have several databases on the 2007 server and we've created several new ones on 2013, regardless of what database we try and migrate from and what database we try and migrate
to we have the same problem. The status just sits at "Syncing" and when I use Exchange PS with the Get-MoveRequestStatistics on the mailbox it shows StatusDetail-Finalization and PercentComplete-95%. The Mailbox size is only 6k.After almost 3 hours it finally completed. Here is the output using the above command.

I ran another testmigration user move and it went through in 30 seconds. -
If you migration hangs at "less than a minute remaining," maybe ok still
I just wanted to describe my experience using the Migration Assistant app with my new 15" MacBook Pro i7 model.
I had a Core2Duo MacBook (black casing) with about 185GB of data on it. I setup the Migration Assistant process to import the data to my new Macbook Pro, after about 4 hours of importing it hung at the 10 minute remaining point telling me to check my connection (ethernet) for problems. I changed out the ethernet cable and had to click "continue" about 3 times before it started working again.
Then at the "less than one minute remaining" point, which was an hour of waiting for me, I called Apple Support and basically we determined it wasn't going to move and just canceled and rebooted.
At first it appeared nothing transferred to the MacBook Pro because I was greeted with the choose language prompts upon first rebooting. However, just go through those as normal, choose NOT to import any data then go to the desktop (you may still have to create a dummy login account) then go to Accounts and choose the one you migrated which hopefully is there, then just delete the dummy account.
Glad I realized this before going through another 4+ hour migration!
Hope this can help someone if it happens to them.I ran into something similar yesterday while running Migration Assistant.
I solved this riddle myself by turning off the WiFi on both computers. For some reason, with an ethernet connection checked, the Migration Assistant still chose to transfer my data via WiFi with quickest time estimate of over 24 hours.
The only other time I did this with Migration Assistant, it apparently used the ethernet cabling right from the start.
This latest attempt is only going to take about 2 hours. As to why Migration would choose wifi when there was a valid ethernet connection available, I'll leave that to the experts. With AirPort turned off, I transfered about 120GB of data in slightly less than 2 hours. -
Migration Workbench hangs during 'Mapping Indices'
During the creation of an Oracle Model, Migration Workbench hangs after displaying the message 'Mapping Indices'. The problem can be reproduced with 100% reliability. The Migration Workbench task must be ended with Task Manager. The source is an SQL Server 7.0 database. Oracle is 8.1.7, Migration Workbench is 1.3.1.0.0 and the SQL Server option is 1.3.1.0.1. Any idea what the problem might be?
Hi Peter,
This sounds like it could be a bug.
Can you try the migration with a new repository first? If the problem persists then please e-mail [email protected] -

Migrate Data action hanging migrating from sql server to Oracle 10g
Hi,
I am currently migrating a SQL Server 2005 db to Oracle 10g using SQL Developer 1.2.1. I have created the migration repository, captured the SQL Server db objects, and created the target schema. There are about 109 tables captured. During Data migration, however, the data move hangs. I have run the data move a couple of times now and it does not hang while migrating any particular table, but seems to be more to do with the length of time it is taking to migrate. Could this be an issue with SQL Server connections being lost? The SQL Server db is quite large. Row counts of 100k plus.

user596259Probably. There is an offline option for migrating data under the migration menu. Generate Scripts for the data move using the appropriate converted model and u can export the data to bcp export files and load it with teh generated SQL Loader scripts.

I'm using migration assistant to move my data from Time Machine on a non-apple external drive to a new macbook pro. It got stuck with 33 minutes remaining and when I opened Activity Monitor to see how much of my storage was in use, I noticed that it had transferred 328gb of 400gb or so of data (consistent with where in the status bar Migration Assistant was), but the precise amount is increasing or decreasing by a small amount every time it refreshes. For instance, one second it will say 328,981,555,500 bytes in use and the next it will say 328,981,540,000 bytes in use and then bounce back up a little higher or lower.
Any idea what is causing this and what I should try to do?RESOLVED.
My solution was to
Boot up the New Mac while pressing T,
then hook it to the old mac and use Disk Utility to Erase the The new mac's Drive,
Then Boot up the New Mac,
and insert the OSX disk that came with the New mac,
and reinstall the OS on the new Mac.
This put it almost back to the Default that it was when it arrived.
I then hooked the Old mac to my External HardDrive, and turned on TimeMachine, and then did a backup.
When it was done,
I turned on the new Mac, plugged in the External Harddrive, and used the TimeMachine Backup to transfer all the data at the Welcome Window, instead of the Old Mac.
This took about 5 hours, and it gave me an error, but the error was minor.
The error said that my old mac, and new mac, both use a FIXED IP to connect to the internet, and it would cause issues. I need a fixed IP at work.
I then inserted the Application Disk, and reinstalled all the new iLife stuff.
I'm good to go now.
My suggestion is, to check your Internet settings before doing your transfer. I'm going to reTest this, but if someone else wants to try it, let me know.
It's the only error I got, and TimeMachine didn't HANG, it just dumps bad stuff into a Folder.
Hope this helps you guys.
