Accessing a slideshow from a DVD for use in my DVD

Hello all...
I am putting together a wedding video. I have a slideshow that was made by the brides' cousin and shown at the reception on a DVD. I want to use this slideshow in my DVD project.
The disk has Video_TS files. I also created a .dmg file from this disk.
How do I convert this into a format that I can use in my project?
Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you are talking about a DVD slideshow that is on a DVD-video disc. If that is true then your best bet would be to talk to the person who created the disc and see if you can get the original files from them.
Otherwise you could use MPEG Streamclip to extract the individual images that were used to create the slideshow. But you will loose all the associated programming (timing and order of the slides). Trying to re-create the slideshow will probably take you days of work, so you really should talk to person you created the original disc.

  • Access Aperture library from other computer for slideshows?

    Hi
I have a macmini connected to my LCD TV. Before when I used to use iPhoto I could share my library on the network, and launch iPhoto on the tv to display slideshows from iPhoto on my macbook pro.
Is there any way that is as easy or similar easy to display slideshows/photos on the TV/macmini with Aperture?

I have this exact setup. Sharing an Aperture Library across a LAN between machines is doable, but problematic. I've corrupted my Aperture Library at least once this way.
My MacPro is in the office and the Mac Mini is on a wired LAN connection (I wouldn't even attempt this over any flavor of WiFi.) I share the Pictures folder on my MacPro and cross-mount it on the Mini, which runs its own copy of Aperture +non-simultaneously with the MacPro+ (that is key - even if you have multiple licensed copies of Aperture on your LAN you +must not+ have multiple instances simultaneously accessing the common Aperture Library.) Then when Aperture starts up on the Mini I have pointed it to the common Aperture Library in the shared folder, cross my fingers and wait...and wait...and wait... until the Mini has loaded the Aperture Library across a 100BaseT ethernet connection.
After 1-2 minutes the Mini will have gotten whatever it needs cached from the MacPro server, and then it runs rather responsively - at least until you switch projects.
But I always get the heeby-jeebies running this way. One classic noob mistake I made was letting the Mini fall asleep after a slideshow +with Aperture still running and attached to the common library+, then starting Aperture back up on my MacPro, which thought it had full ownership of the library. Bad consequences. Not for the faint of heart.

The most obvious safe way to do this would be if iPhoto - which allows read-access to your Aperture Library, if it can find it on your machine or network - would build slideshows from your Aperture images. Unfortunately this is not the case unless you literally import (ie make new copies of) the Aperture images into your iPhoto library, which kind of waters down the notion of "sharing".
A better way, which I've tried with some success, is to use Aperture 3.x's *File->Export->Slideshow as New Library* command. The short version is: build the slideshow you want on your MacBook Pro, then Export it as a self-contained Aperture library across the network to your Mini. Use option-cmd when you open Aperture on your Mini and select that freshly exported library as your Mini's current Aperture Library (or use the new *File->Switch to Library* command and navigate to it.)
This still incurs the overhead of copying files across machines, but it allows you to have full Aperture slideshow functionality on your Mini without actually sharing the library. (That flavor of Export command gives the option of copying over the preview images that will be used for the slideshow or letting your Mini regenerate them - the best choice depends on the speed of your network vs the speed of your Mini, size of preview images, etc.)
A hybrid approach might be to leave the newly exported slideshow library on your MacBook, and +share just that library+ across the network after disconnecting it from your MacBook. It's hard to say whether that might be faster than transferring the whole library and its previews across the network - I haven't tried it.

  • How do I access photo files from Aperture Vault for Lightroom?

I am considering switching from Aperture to Lightroom on the Mac. Aperture uses Vaults to store its photo files. What is the proper procedure to access these files so that Lightroom can use them? If I switch, the files can be completely removed from the Vaults, but before I finalize the switch, I need to keep the files available to Aperture AND Lightroom (or at least, copies of the files available to Lightroom).

Jao's suggestion will work, though you have to dig through a couple of package files. The advantage of Relocate Masters is that you can set up a folder structure that reflects the old projects, if you want, or break everything out into a date format.
Rather than either way of trying to keep files in both systems, the better way to make a transition though is to use Export Masters because it can create sidecars which LR can read, so all your keywords and other metadata come across.

  • Accessing/Extracting content from a DVD

I have several DVDs that contain old family films from which the original media has been damaged or destroyed. I would like to be able to import these home movies into iMovie for editing. I can create a disc image on my desktop from the DVDs, but do not know how to import the content into iMovie from there. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Scott

MPEG Streamclip will work, but you will need to purchase the $20 Apple Quicktime MPEG-2 component to make it work with DVD content. http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A?fnode=NDQ4OTY4OA&mco=MTM3NDgwNTI

  • How do I install WIndows 7 from a download for use with Parallels?

I had installed Parallels and Windows 7 to my Macbook when I first purchased it.  Had some issues and uninstalled both.  Now I'm trying to reinstall and I can seem to get Windows installed.  HELP!

Haven't used Parallels, but have VMWare and VirtualBox on the Mac and must be similar. First off, by "download", it must be in an .iso format file, that represents the contents of a physical disk.
After creating the new virtual machine, configuring all the settings as needed for Win7, go to the virtual CD/DVD drive configuration. There should be means for attaching the .iso file to the device: Fusion calls it "Use disk image" and presents a drop down menu for selecting the .iso file. Then confirm that the startup order and/or startup device prioritizes the CD/DVD device. Once that is done, just go ahead and start the virtual machine up and it will boot from the .iso image. You can then use the standard Windows installer to set up your new Win7 instance.

  • How can I access my movies from my iTunes account using my iPad.

I thought that when you accessed iTunes from your iPad, using iOS5 you could access all of your iTunes like you did on your PC.  However I can get my music but not movies.  Please can someone help me.  I am new to the apple game.

Not sure if there is a way to "un-sync" per-say... But you can factory reset your device, and then set it up with your new MB Air.
DOING A FACTORY RESET WILL WIPE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE!!! So make sure you have it backed up to your old computer first!
But before you do this, when you plug your Phone into your computer, I think iTunes should give you a choice to sync with your new computer. If this "dialog box" or "choice" doesn't pop up when you plug your Phone in, THEN do the factory reset.

  • Exporting HD footage from Avid (PC) for use in FCP (MAC)

    Hello,
Here is my issue, there was and HD shoot of my business for local promotional use. I wanted the footage for marketing purposes down the road. I put together most of our promotional video using FCP 5.1.4. The footage was edited on a PC Avid system and exported using an animation codac to quicklime. (This is what the editor said would work)
The footage will not play back correctly, starts off playing for the first second or so and freezes. When I import it into a sequence and render it I can here audio but the canvas remains black. Before I have them export this thing again I wanted to make sure it wasn't an issue on my end. Below are the clip details and CPU info. Thanks in advance for any help.

Animation files are much too large data-wise to play back. YOu need to use Compressor to convert them into a codec that is more editable. DVCPRO HD for example...or ProRes. Depending on what hard drives you are trying to play this footage from.
Animation is a good transfer codec, but it needs to be converted.

  • Best way to collect photos from family members for use in Photoshop Elements Organizer 13?

I am a long time Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements user. My biggest problem in producing my annual Christmas video has been collecting photos and videos from remote family members. Most are exclusively taking photos and videos on their smartphones (but I'll take wheat I can get).
What toolset or service will offer my family members the easiest way for them to securely share those assets with me so that I can ingest them into Element Organizer 13?
I've been told that Adobe now has apps for smartphones to aid in this process, but I have yet to track that down.
I've recommended my family members use dropbox or other comparable services, but it seems to perplex them. More often than not, I wind up receiving them as attachment via email or not at all. I'd LOVE to improve their ease of use and am will to pay to deliver an easy and pleasant experience for them.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

What about Google Drive? And just share the folder with the family members.

  • Buying iphone from Apple store for use with various carriers

If I buy an iphone 4 from Apple store (not subsidized), can I use it with Virgin Mobile's no contract plan?  Or do I need to buy it from Virgin Mobile?
And If, after a month or two, I decide not to use Virgin Mobile, can I switch to another carrier using the same phone? or do I need to unlock it or whatever?
I guess what I am really getting down to is this:  I want to choose Virgin as carrier because there is no 2-year contract locked in, i.e. flexibility to switch, and I am willing to pay full price for the phone.  But if, for some reason I don't like Virgin's service, or they to raise their monthly fee so that it is no longer competitive to ATT, VZ, etc., I want to be able to switch to another carrier with the same phone, and not have to sell it on the 2nd hand market.
I know I can just purchase the iphone 4 that Virgin offers for 350.  But if it only works with Virgin and no other carrier, then what is the point of not having tied into a contract?  The phone is useless unless I use it with that carrier.
I have not asked Virgin this question yet, because what I really want to know is, if an iphone purchased in an Apple store can be used "universally" across all carriers.  I kind of understand there is a different standard that ATT use as opposed to all other carriers, but I am hoping to find the definitive answer about iphone compatibility for all carriers that offer the iphone.

    Spiral Aim wrote:
    3)  I assume VZ and S use CDMA.  So, an unlocked VZ CDMA iphone user can switch to S and vice versa, and that's it?
You assume correctly that Verizon and Sprint are CDMA.  However, no CDMA carrier will activate a device sold for a network other than their own.  In the "CDMA world" there is no such thing as an unlocked device.
    Spiral Aim wrote:
    4)  ATT unlocked iphone users cannot use same phone with VZ, S, Virgin, or whoever else offering iphones at this time?
An unlocked GSM iPhone can be used on TMobile and any other GSM carrier in the US, there are quite a few regional GSM carriers and resellers (like StraightTalk).  Not all features are supported/work and it's up to those carriers to get them working.

Now this is where it gets confusing, kindof.
The iPhone 4 is GSM or CDMA only.
The 4S and 5 are World phones meaning they have GSM and CDMA antenna's.  A CDMA 4S or 5 can be unlocked by the carrier (Sprint, Verizon, Virgin, etc) and activated on a GSM network.  Generally the carrier will only unlock for International carriers for the purpose of using GSM when the user is traveling and there is no partner CDMA carrier network for the user to roam on.

  • Convert VI llb from LabVIEW 5 for use in LabVIEW 8.6

    Hi Everybody!
Firstly, I'd like to say how much I have enjoyed working for NI and especially supporting the online community in my spare work time. I have to say it is a great place for NI, long term users, new users and everything else LabVIEW - and you guys have fun! Excellent.
I am now back at university and I am looking to use LabVIEW for some robotic work. During my research I have found some manufacturer's VIs for the hardware: however their 'latest' version appears to be in LabVIEW 5.
Would someone be so kind to convert my VIs into at least LabVIEW 6, or up to LabVIEW 8.2.1 (Last version that can open LabVIEW 5 VIs) that would be great. My LabVIEW 8.6 should be able to open VIs saved in LabVIEW 6 or greater. (Obviously not LabVIEW 2009!)

Thanks ever so much in advance (I miss the day I had every version of LabVIEW - and NI software on my machine!)

  • Global Variables passing from standard form for use on custom form

    Hi,
I'm trying to grab a value from a standard form, and pass it to a new custom form, which I am opening automatically from the standard form via personalizations. Is anyone aware of a way to send a value from one form to another? I was going to try using a global variable, which it looks like you can set through personalization. I tried doing it by passing the value as a form parameter, which works if I hard code a value, but it doesn't work if I refer to a value from the standard form.

in your E-Business-environment may exist some special codings, which you have to think of, when passing parameters through the application.
Copy the question to your EBS-Forum. They know ways using personalization and passing parameters

  • What's the right/best way to publish from Captivate 7 for use in Presenter 9

Just upgraded to captivate 7 and have presenter 9.  We are updating some old training courses created using Presenter with demos created in Captivate.  I've gotten as far as upgrading the old .cp files to .cpx files and now am ready to publish the files within Captivate so I can import them into Presenter 9.
When I hit 'publish' in captivate there are options to publish as .swf and/or .html5.  So I am trying to fugre out what will work best given what I'm trying to do.    In presenter I don't see an option to import HTML5, only video files or .swf files, is that correct?  in which case i need to publish as .SWF files?  Is that the best way to do it in order to be able to import into Presenter 9?
If that's the case, and I need to have .SWF files, how do I choose which Flash Player version I want to use when I publish the files in Captivate?  It's got the drop down box containing Flash 10, 10.2 and 11.  My instinct would be to use the newest (flash 11).  Is that correct?  If not, why would I want to use a lower Flash version?
    thank you!

    Hi,
You can publish to either as .mp4 (Go to publish >Media >Mp4 ) or .swf from Captivate 7. In presenter 9 you do have an option to either import .swf or .mp4 files. See the image below to import these two formats in presenter:

  • Accessing Cluster Data From an External Application Using the DataSocket

I am trying to interface to a legacy system running a rather large and complex LabView application (which I really don't want to modify).  The data I need to access has been posted on the DataSocket server as a cluster.  Is there any way of accessing that data as a structure from an external application?  I do have Measurement Studio and its CNiDataSocket classes and I am able to connect to the data, but I can't see how I can pull the data over and extract the values that I require.
    Any ideas?
