Accessing a Windows 2003 Server
Hi; this question may have been dealt with already but I'm new here so please indulge me a bit. My office network runs on windows 2003 file server but I just got myself a MacBook Pro. I can see the file server but can't access it. I have MS Office for Mac 2004 installed (Student edition)
Should it be possible for me to access files on a file server that runs on windows 2003 server? If yes, what do I need to do on either my Mac or ask the admin to do on the server?
Cheers
I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

Clean Access and Windows 2003 Server
I am trying to install the Clean Access Client on a VM running Windows 2003 Server. When I connect to our customer's network the VPN client appears to connect properly and I see the Clean Access window. Then it all seems to fall over. My customer tells me I should see a blue window with a red OK button on it but I never see it. As a result I never get completely into the network. Is this because I am running this on Windows 2003 Server or should I be looking at something else? Can this run in a Virtual Environment and on 2003 Server?
I work it out partially by myself:

(excuse me, I meant "kinit and Krb5LoginModule" not "kinit and kinit.exe").
Krb5LoginModule seems to work now (with TCP). The output is:

Slow connection with OS X 10.7 while trying to access a Windows 2003 server
Good afternoon:
I am a systems engineer in an enterprise environment that is now deploying Macs and I have been finding that the Macs have a very slow connection to the Windows 2003 server; even after installing all necessry components.
All of the Macs access network services via Active Directory
The issue is the connection speed when trying to access folders on the servers.
Does anyone have any ideas as to speed up this connectivity issue?Did you resolve this issue? Any links to anwers to this?
thank you. -

Trying to access Windows 2003 Server share with Mac OS 9.04
Hi
I cannot connect to a Windows 2003 Server share on my 2003 domain. I can access the share with my MacBook (10.4.9) & my G4. I have File Services for Mac installed & can ping the server from all OS 9 Mac.
Can anyone give me some tips?
MacBook AdministratorHow are you trying to connect to the server? Via AppleTalk or IP? (What utility are you using to ping the server from the Mac OS 9 machine?) Since you're not providing any information about error messages you're receiving or the symptoms of your problem I can only provide the following information.
If you're selecting the server from a list in the Chooser and clicking the OK button then the connection should switch to IP automatically. Make sure your Mac has TCP/IP enabled and is receiving an IP address or that you have an appropriate IP address hard-coded. You can try forcing an IP connection by entering the IP address or DNS name of the server in the Chooser rather than selecting it from the list in the Chooser.
Or you can try forcing an AppleTalk connection by selecting the server in the Chooser and holding down the Option key as you click the Connect button. If you're asked to enter your name and password then you're communicating properly with the server. This is, however, a very slow connection compared to IP.
Finally, be sure you update to the latest version of Mac OS 9, which is 9.2.2 <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288>.
Hope this helps! bill

Windows 2003 server access getting slow from Windows7/8 client
We have Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. If I try to access through Windows 7 or Windows 8 client PC then I am getting very slow access. Slow access in terms of, if I am taking remote desktop of server [OR] if I directly browse server directory [OR] even
accessing any web application on server it is very slow.
But if I am accessing though any Windows-XP base client or even other servers having Windows 2003 or Windows 2008 then access in good.
But interesting thing is even we have other Windows 2003 server for which I am getting normal response.
Can someone guide me on the same? I am not able to understand the root cause of it.

Cannot establish a link between MacPro and Windows 2003 Server
I just had an issue where we had a server crash. This server supports several PCs, as well as two Macs. The server has been brought back online and can communicate with all of the PCs. However, neither one of the Macs can now communicate with the server.
When I try to connect through the sidebar in the finder window, it will bring up the authentication window. But after I type in my password and hit enter, it gives me the message, "The alias "" could not be opened because the original item could not be found."
When I try to connect through Go>Connect to Server, it gives me the message, "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written (Error code -36).
My IT guy says that everything is alright with the server and that the problem has to be in the Mac settings. He does not know anything about Macs, however.
Can somebody help me out with this issue? The only thing that comes to mind is a few settings in the Security Options of the Local Policy. Here's a link:

Not sure if that's it, but I hope it helps. -
Can't connect my Mac to my Windows 2003 server shares via SMB
Hello all
So my problem is I have my Powerbook running 10.4.7 with all the latest security updates and I cannot connect it to any shares on my Windows 2003 domain controller. Everything was working fine and I could connect to the server with no problem till about a month ago. However, I can still connect to the Windows 2000 domain controller with no problem. The error I get when trying to connect is "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct". I did try clearing out my keychain, making sure all of the authentication policies on the server are correct (disabling the digitally sign commucations always policy), and I even went as far as editing a .conf file in /etc/ folder that allows for passwords to be sent without any encryption (I forget exactly what I changed but I can post that later when I get home from work) and none of this has worked. I unfortunately don't have another mac to test out connecting to the Windows 2003 server. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to try and get this issue resolved?TO share out as afp you need to have file and print services for macintosh installed on the 2k3 Server.
O n the main management console click on the shares icon on the left. then click the "link" create a share. The wizard will guide you through the process. i forget the order of progression but i beleive its the second or third part in the dialog it will have 2 check boxes, the top one checked by default, is to share it for windows/smb the second (lower box) is to share as AFP for mac check this box and change the share name if you like. then proceed through the rest of the wizard. Make sure you configure the security/sharing prefs for access.. we typically remove the everyone policy and add one for Authenitcated Users, and ofcourse Administrators. -

Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server
Dear All,
Whether Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2003 Server/Windows 2000 Adv. Server.
I tried it in windows 2003 server but i couldn't. Atlease tell me wheather it support windows 2000 adv. server. This is my first dba job.
Under Doc ID: 66397.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Not Support Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition.
Under Doc ID: 77627.1 saying Oracle 8.1.6 Supports Windows 2000 Support.
Please help me out urgently.Since you have access to Metalink, you could be looking at the Certify tab to find this information. But, the answer is that 8.1.6 is no longer supported by Oracle. However, you should be able to install it on Win 2000 advanced server. You just can't get any support for it.
The earliest version of db supported on Win 2003 was either 9.0 or 9.2, but 9.0 is desupported now as well. -
Oracle 10g install on Windows 2003 Server 32-bit
As far as I can tell there doesn't appear to be an Oracle10g download for 10.2.0.4 for Windows 2003 Server. It looks like you have to download 10.2.0.1 for Windows then apply the patch to bring it up to 10.2.0.4. Am I seeing this correctly or am I missing something?
Thanks!>

Indeed you are; your eyes are definitely not lying to you. 10.2.0.4 is a patchset which can only be applied to an already existing Oracle Home.
You might want to try and understand a little bit more about what the 10.2.0.4 means by accessing the links below.

We had to install oracle 9.2.0.5 32 bit ,since there is no oracle
realease for oracle 9i 64 bit ,on OS windows 2003 server X_86 64 bit, after doing this when we go ahead kenel 32 bit, we faced error during database creation phase of the NW java installation. The error logs are
as follows,
ERROR 2008-04-05 23:09:27
CJS-00084 SQL statement or script failed. DIAGNOSIS: Error message:
ORA-12546: TNS:permission denied
plz respond asaphi sm,
this seems to be an issue with the rights of the user and the DB install. check is the TNS is up and running and that the SIDADM has fill access to it. Also , have you checked the latest PAM. why are you trying to implement EP6 right now? I would suggest to go for EP7.0

OS 10.3.9 and Windows 2003 Server - Can't get to the network
My company just up graded from a Windows 2000 to a Windows 2003 server. I am lone Mac user. Yesterday, with Windows 2000, I had no trouble accessing several drives on the server. Now with this upgrade, I can't log on to any of the drives.
The IT folks are not that Mac savvy and they've tried a few things regarding security, but they're lost, and haven't found anything from Microsoft that helps. And I know nothing about networking. I've tried searching Apple but can't find anything specific to this problem. I can print to all the networked printers, just can't get to the drives.
Is there something we're missing here? Something in my System Preferences that we needed to adjust first?
Thanks.

Query very slow on Windows 2003 Server
Hi,
Our customer is running 10g on Windows 2003 server. Some queries perform badly. I imported the data into a 10g DB on Linux (at our office) to analyze and test. Strange enough the same query takes more than 10 times longer to run on the Windows machine compared to the Linux. The Windows machine is dedicated to Oracle, it is not 'overloaded'.

NOTEs:
- The data is exactly the same on both machines
- I analyzed_schema on both machines/DB's before running the query
- The SGA size en DB_BUFFERS are (almost) set to the same value
- Oracle version is the same: 10gOn Windows:
- I exported the data
- Re-created my 2 tablespaces, to set: extent management local, uniform 1M
- imported the data
- dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats( option=>'GATHER')

Tested, takes 7 seconds now (was 11), but this is still slow compared to the run on Linux
