Accessing achived OS after re-installing original OS
I was experiencing a problem with Safari, which after much effort, told me a setting had been changed by another program. It didn't tell me which setting or program, so I deleted the software under suspect and tried a re-install of my OS from the original discs that came with the laptop. I did a re-install with archive, but without replacing settings from the archive.
Everything works fine now, but I can't find a way to access my other files, like my music, pictures, documents, etc. Is there a way touse the install disc as a boot disc-only, so that I can replace the new with the old? I know how to boot up from the install disc, but it won't let me disengage the install feature so I can work from the OS alone.
Or is there a better way to access my old system? There must be some way to do this; otherwise why have the archive option?

Welcome to the Forums!
If you performed an Archive & Install and did not check "Preserve Users and Network Settings", the previous files should have been placed in a folder called Previous System at the root level of the hard drive (i.e. double-click the HDD icon in the upper right corner to find it) - that's the Archive part. You can just drag the files to the appropriate place in the new Home folder.

Mac Version changed after re-installing original installation disc (disc 1)
Hie all,
I'm new on here so I'm sorry if I am posting in the wrong place. I have a mac book that was originally version 10.4.11. I got Sims 2 expansion packs that wouldn't work until apple told me I didn't have a systems profile so I had to re-install the first installation disc. Now I'm trying to access iTunes (which I always had) and it's saying I cannot use it on the version I have which has somehow become a 10.4.6.
I don't understand if I did anything wrong. Does anyone know what I can do? Do I need to re-install disc 2 as well? Or am I stuck with the older version for good? I know it's not the latest but I want iTunes back and now I'm wondering what else has changed on my laptop that I don't know about. : (
Thanks.Your install DVDs have 10.4.6 on them. That is the way the came. At some point someone has upgraded your computer to 10.4.11 by installing the free downloadable System updates.
All you need to do is download and install the following Combo update to change your 10.4.6 to 10.4.11.

You don't want the PPC version of 10.4.11 but rather you want the Intel version. -
Big Problem, Can't Access my Account after Re-Installing OSX Leopard
I've 2 accounts on my Mac. One for me (admin) and one general (managed).
I've just re-installed OSX Leopard as archive and install (without erasing).
All went ok untill I went to log-in.
Typed in my pwd and nothing... like if the pwd is wrong. I also got the pwd hint (just in case) and nothing. The password I type is correct but it doesn't let me in.
I can access the computer with the other account. All normal. The trouble is that the other account has no admin powers.
I did the OSX re-install before on my girlfriend's iMac and it worked perfectly. It's even faster.
So I tough to do it on mine too, bummer!
What happened? Am I f**d?You can reset your admin password by booting from the Install DVD. Since I know that you used an external HD (from your other thread) this means in your case: Hold ALT while booting, select your external HD which contains your cloned Install DVD. When it has booted, select your language. Do NOT continue to install the system again. Instead select the menu bar at the top of the screen. There's an option to reset the admin account's password there. When done simply quit the Installer and let your Mac reboot normally. You should then be able to login.

Access system profiler after clean install
I just did a clean install of Mavericks on a laptop that I am going to sell. I forgot to write down the system information (i.e. RAM, processor, version) before doing the install now I can't seem to find a way to access the system profiler to get this info. I can't get the menu to show during the regular install process (though I remember being able to do this before on previous versions), I also looked through the recovery partition but didn't see anything there. Am I missing something?

Two days ago, I have a new iphone 4S. After I installed the OS and start the iphone, I found a strange screen says "!9D/JC" that blocks the iphone and I can not access the iphone until click many times on the "Desmiss" button at the botom of the screen.

I tried to install windows 7 in my macbook pro late 2011 but i tried to create partions after it installed and it turn to dynamic disks and i can't access mac or win 7 what should I do i cant format it because i dont have a backup
It's not that you can't format it because you have no backup, it's because you'll lose everything when you do. Lesson learned. Always have a backup.

Reboot, as soon as you hear the chime press and hold the option key, when the Boot Manager appears select OSX.

iTunes 10.6.3 will work with iOS6 as long as the hardware doesn't post-date the release of 10.7 Use iTunes 10.6.3 on both machines.

No keyboard access in bootcamp after upgrade to Early 2008 MacBook Pro
How do I regain keyboard access in Bootcamp after a hardware upgrade to a new (early 2008) 15" MacBook Pro (MBP)?
I was recently forced to upgrade from a July 2007 MBP 15" to an early 2008 MBP due to a burglary. The original MBP also had a Bootcamp partition in use for business purposes (Windows XP SP2).
Fortunately using Time Capsule and WinClone I had very recent back ups of all data and migration to the new MBP went well until I encountered an insurmountable problem at the point I wished to update the new MPB Bootcamp drivers in the restored Bootcamp partition.
The problem being encountered is as follows:
When starting up in the restored Bootcamp partition I am unable to update the with the latest Bootcamp drivers as the keyboard is inoperative. I am therefore unable to get past the CtrlAltDel security pane and navigate to load the Leopard install disk.
I do however have mouse control.
I have also tried rebooting with an external keyboard and mouse. Again the mouse worked but not the keyboard.
To add further confusion or insight into this problem I had a BartPE Windows CD utility disk set-up available for emergency use and this will boot on the new MBP. Once booted it does provide mouse and keyboard access suggesting that somehow in the WinClone restoring process the original keyboard driver was damaged.
This may well be the case as when I first started up the Bootcamp partition after the restore I encountered a Windows 'blue screen of death' that pointed to a Driver fault in a file called "bcmw15.sys".
After restarting Windows I no longer encountered the blue screen but had no keyboard access as described above.
Unforunately using the BartPE CD to bypass the keyboard problem has thwarted me as this configuration does not appear to have a means available to eject the BartPE CD itself, allowing me to then insert the Leopard install disk in its place.
Given the unique nature of the Windows system configuration I had in use any suggestions as to how I might overcome this without having to resort to rebuilding the configuration from scratch would be gratefully received.
In particular if anyone may know of the MacBook Pro Windows keyboard driver name and location this would be of particular assistance.
DionBooting from the Windows Install CD did not work.
I have however recovered the partition and got operational again.
The solution in the end was achieved by gaining access via Windows XP start-up in 'safe mode' using an external MS USB keyboard (the new MBP 'delete' key was not being recognised, and then using the 'Administrator' password to gain access to the Windows XP 'Device Manager'.
The full saga of difficulties encountered is too lengthy to relate in full unless someone out there really wants to know the gory details for their own specific similar need.
Suffice it to say that the most of the problems that arose were:
a) the result of the hardware changes between the old MBP and the new one requiring select old drivers to be located and removed and then new drivers installed;
b) due to an upgrade that occurred to the MS Enterprise server software in the period between when the WinClone image was taken and when the new MPB arrived and I attempted the restore (including that as a consequence of the burglary I updated my corporate mailbox password online causing the back-up XP image to be out of sync with Enterprise server once networking was revived); and
c) a Parallels software upgrade reinstall also caused issues in regaining sync with the revived Bootcamp.
Isolating the driver causing the offending ""bcmw15.sys" driver crash proved very tricky as Windows appeared to keep reinstalling some sort of generic driver that kept repeating the problem. Thereafter getting past the blocks to accessing the Apple install CD also required enormous trial and error skill to overcome.
Bottom line WinClone did perform. It restored the partition on the new machine with sufficient integrity to allow a skilled Sys Op (far beyond my Win experience) the capability to fully restore Bootcamp XP functionality.
Nevertheless the process is definitely not one I'd prefer to experience a repeat of - its taken several man days (and nights) to resolve.

Hi,
Go to the ~/Library/Attachments folder. (well it should be a folder).
If it is not a Folder then rename it and create a New folder with the same name.
restart Messages.
Or if you have a Time Machine backup replace the Non folder item with an Original from just before the update.

Kernel Panic only after I install 16GiB RAM but it passed memtest and AHT
Kernel Panics occur after I installed the 16GiB RAM(Corsair Vengeance Laptop Memory Kit 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 PC3 12800 (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10) in my MacBook Pro 17" 2011 early. It might appear in login window, or after using Safari for 2 or 3 hours. If I did't use the MBP overnight and just let it run, there would be strong possibility that kernel panic didn't occur. But on the next day when I went up and start using the computer, the kernel panic occur in half an hour.
I run the memtest for 12+ hours and Apple Hardware Test for 19+ hours, but no error was found. I tried OS X Lion 10.7.4 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 GM, and even a clean install of 10.7.4, but it still occur.
However, when I install one of the 16GiB a.k.a 8GiB, kernel panic never occur. I even tried one 8GiB with another my old 4GiB ram, and kernel panic didn't occur either.
I've tried to fix the problems for 2 weeks, and I did everything I can. So, can anyone tell me which part might be bad, Mac or RAM? Should I goto Genius Bar or ask Corsair for RMA?

If you have read my original reply to you post, I did mention that someimes it will work and sometimes it won't. Your Samsung might be rated at 1600MHz but the CL could be higher than your Corsair which is why it worked.
The memory Type you read in the link you provided is motherboard/logicboard depended. Your Logic board is rated at 1333MHz. So going 1600MHz will not benefit you since you're locked at 1333MHz.
