Accessing Address Book / iCal Content

I just got a new MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard. I had cloned everything from my old machine (a Mac Pro using Tiger) onto an external hard drive and now I'm having some issues accessing information from certain applications.
Unfortunately I didn't research, and didn't know there would be compatibility issues.. so I did not export all my contacts from Address Book. Now I can't open the app on the Snow Leopard MacBook. Same goes for iCal. Lastly, I can't open the apps up on my old machine, as I've sold it. Please let me know if there's a way to access the contents!

are you trying to run tiger versions of ical and address book on your snow leopard machine? that will of course not work but there is no need to do it either. if you have a clone of your tiger system you can import all your user data and if you like applications using Migration Assistant. It's located in /Applications/Utilities. just run it and import your stuff. note that after the migration you'll need to log out of the account you are using now and log into the migrated account. that's where all your data will be.
Lastly, I can't open the apps up on my old machine, as I've sold it. Please let me know if there's a way to access the contents!

Funny you mentioned 1932, as the birthday entry in my 'Address Book' is the 06/04/1932.
Since it is not before but actually within 1932, is this what's causing the issue?

Access Address Book from other applications

Hi there,
How can I access Address Book information from other applications (notably the command line, OpenOffice, etc.)?
In particular, is there a command line utility to access and edit the Address Book?

just back up your whole computer and those things will be backed up along with everything else. Time Machine is not well suited for cherrypicking just a few things to back up and it's a bad idea anyway. if you insist on backing up just those two things back up homedirectory/library/application support/address book and homdirectory/library/calendars.

How do I change Syncing settings for Address Book, iCal, etc?

I remember when I setup my operating system, it asked what percent of changes
to Address Book, iCal, etc. I wanted to set between my computers, before I was notified. I think the default was 5%. But I'd like to change that setting. Does anyone know where I can find that?

Cannot access address book following archive and install

Following an archive and install with 10.5.8 I find that when attempting to access Address Book, Font Book, Text Edit and Time Machine I get the following admonition on the screen, " You can't open the application because it is not supported on this architecture."
How can I restore these applications?

How to Sync Address Book, iCal and Safari bookmarks with Blackberry Storm

I recently purchased a Blackberry Storm and have been trying to sync my Address Book, iCal and Safari bookmarks without any luck. I downloaded the PocketMac SyncManager from BlackBerry but the sync fails when I connect the Storm to my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions as to how one gets this to work?

How to sync Address Book, iCal, Bookmarks between my iMac and Macbook?

5480, syncing that information between two Macs is both easy and tricky at the same time. It’s easy because you really can just copy the files back and forth. Address Book - note content disappears

When I add a note, or add to the note field in Address Book, the content I try to add disappears within a second or so. Why?

I sync with an iPhone but not mobile me.
I corrected 25 sync conflicts a few moments ago but that did not help the situation
I rebooted and ran a few YASU scripts... that did not help either
I removed pref files and still have the same bug rearing its ugly head in the notes field
I rebuilt the AB DB and... the bug is still occurring
interesting news is that:
I added a new record and the bug did not occur!
I copied one of the offending records and then edited the copy by deleting the first 3 lines of notes.. this resulted in the same bug (the first 3 lines reappeared)
I then clicked the EDIT button and replaced the first 3 lines of notes with text
and the change was saved... this worked.
Then I deleted the offending record and checked back with the copy that I just created... it was fine
the issue is that when I edit an existing record, I will have no assurance that my edit is saved after I leave that record and continue to another one...
hope you have some ideas
so that I can trust AB once again

Mail, Address Book, iCal, iTunes not opening

Today I came in and Parallels was totally locked up. I quit all applications and restarted the iMac. Once it was restarted I could no longer open Mail, Address Book, iCal or iTunes. All other apps work except these very important ones. Any ideas? I've ran disk utilitiy and verified and repaired all file permissions and checked the disk. Still the same problem.

it's possible that Console may show a useful pointer to the reason, or mention a log which does...
if not..
I would Verify/Repair the disk (not permissions) & then if no problems are found reinstall OS X (which should retain your users/settings/files, but have a backup anyway), Quick & easy with 10.6.
You could download & try the 10.6.4 combo first, if you wish - sometimes this fixes things.

Access address book on iphone without syncing?

The screen has stopped working on my girlfriends iphone and she needs to access her contacts before it's replaced tomorrow, is there a way of accessing the address book without having to sync it to my computer as her mac is at home? I dont want to have to sync her phone with my mac as that will erase all her music etc and she's not sure when she last backed it up on her mac!

I think you can use your Mac, as her iPhone will be a new device. Look in the 'Reader Tips' tab on syncing to a new computer. You have to jump through a few pretty easy hoops, and then you have a backup on the new computer (yours) with the old iPhone content (hers).

However, I would think that the Apple Store that is replacing the iPhone would be able to transfer the content, also.

Access address book of yahoo from Java Progam

I am working on an application for which I need help.
The application retrieves the contents of 'address book' when provided with login information of yahoo or any other email account. Can somebody let me know the way to do it??
I believe that for different email service providers, the method to access the address-book would be different. Can anybody leads to any of the service providers??

It likely would be, if it's supported at all. Ask the support department of your service provider.

Just moved from PC to iMac-Mavericks and Tbird now crashes when I try to access Address Books.

When entering an email address, Tbird apparently checks address books since it gives me a list of possible addressees as I enter the name. But when I click on the Address Book icon to get in to make a change or new entry, I get an error saying Tbird has encountered a problem and crashed. My options are to quit or restart Tbird. When restarting all is fine again.
I just moved my email, address books, etc to an iMac (first time on such a machine) and thought I'd gotten everything moved per instructions, but apparently did something wrong.

The problem appears to be Reminder Fox. The other add-ons I have are Adblock Plus, Extra Folder Columns, Test Pilot for Tbird and View About. Disabling just Reminder gave me back direct access to the Address Books; toggling others off and on had no effect.
I guess the question now is why. I assume that it there must be something odd about my set up and its interaction with Reminder, or more people would be having this problem. Although I'm content to operate without Reminder, if someone wants to work with me to identify the specific source of the problem, I'm game to do it, but it's not something I'm capable of doing on my own.

I would like to make Gmail my default source for Address Book entries and iCal entries on my Intel Mac running Lion and my iPad. There seems to an 'almost' option in Address Book when setting up for Gmail, however, it only states my mac

I have heard a lot about how the new 2.0 software will work with Microsoft exchange, but i have heard nothing about how it will work with ical and address book, or if gmail users will get any added email benefits.... so someone please give me some good news....

If so, only with Apple's new Me.com service which is replacing their .Mac service. This will provide over the air syncing for contact information and calendar events between iCal and Address Book on a Mac, with the iPhone, and when accessing your Me.com account via Safari on any Mac, or with Safari or a supported browser on a Windows PC. The Me.com account will be push email.
Regarding any added benefits for a Gmail account, I don't believe so, unless Gmail plans on adding some benefits such as push-IMAP account access.
