Accessing Airport Hard disk

OK, I got tired of my wife's iMac dropping the 465GB mirrored RAID off the network, and so I hooked it up to the AirportExtreme Base Station. Opened Airport Utility, went thru all the steps according to the Help documents, and it should be set up. Now, how do I gain access to it? Shouldn't it come up up on my desktop, or in the finder window sidebar? If I use the Go to menu, what do I go to? I'm at a loss, how to proceed.

The drives are a matched pair of VOX EXSA-35C-500G7K external USB 2 drives. They are less than a year old, and are used as primary storage for photos that are currently backed up on 42 DVDs, and 43's folder is nearly ready to burn to a DVD. It is critical info, and needs to be accessed by a iMac and 2 MacBookPros. Yesterday and today, it's only been available to the iMac. I guess next I'll restart the iMac, when my secretary isn't using it. Maybe that will restart sharing. but getting it on the Airport Extreme would be nice, and help future development. I want to put a Time Capsule with 2 external disks in an outbuilding where I need better wireless connection, to kill 2 birds with one stone. The Time Capsule would give better connection in the building, and either MacBookPro could access it. I could put it by a plywood window with direct line-of sight to the Airport Extreme. I can get a signal at the counter with a core2duo MBP. A TC boosts it greatly. And I could back up 3 computers "Offsite" with Time Machine, so if my house burns down, I still have a backup! So, knowing how to connect to a disk on the AE would be greatly helpful!

You figure out how to do it on your OS using C/C++ code.
Then you write a wrapper in JNI to call your C/C++ code.

There is now way to use 100% Java to access such things as Network Card Number etc. If you are willing to make sacrifice the platform independance, just Java Native Interface (JNI). This way you could use some C or C++ library that has access to the hardware. Note that it?s only the server that could access the hardware. . You could connect from the client to a server using a socket for sending and receiving data.
Tip: Get "Essential JNI" by Rob Gordon if you want a book on JNI. It's a little hard to read, but I believe that's the best book on the subject.

Access Airport extreme disk on Hard Wired Connection

Question how do you access the USB hard disk on Airport extreme via a Mac on a hard wired ethernet connection?
I have a Mac in a room outside WLAN coverage and apart from Air Port Disk utility I don't know if this is possible.

The same process as when you access the drive wirelessly.
If you are connected to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), you must configure the AEBS to operate in bridge mode.

Cannot Access USB Hard Disk

I have a USB hub connected to my airport with a printer and USB hard disk attached. I can see in manual setup in AirPort utility that both the printer and the hard disk are set up and connected. The printer prints wirelessly.
My problem is that I cannot find the hard disk on my computer in order to take and put in files. Where is the hard disk located???

In the Airport Utility /Disks/File Sharing make sure 'Enable file sharing' is checked. Select your choice for access (Secure Shared Disks).
Airport Disk Utility: I have enabled 'Automatically discover AirPort Disks' as well as 'Show Airport Disks in the menu bar'. My action for the Airport is 'Connect with Password'.
More often than not every disk I add to the hub (which is attached to the base station), shows up immediately. When it doesn't, I simply use the menu bar icon, click on the airport name and click 'OK' once the disk availability box appears. My oresent setup is to remember the password in my keychain.
Note: since updating the firmware as well as Airport application, I have had no issues with hard drive access or, in particular, printer access.

Unable to access TC hard disk from PC

I have been unable to access the TC wireless and hard disk from my PC. I have both a Mac and a PC...the Mac works fine. I'm not using the TC to access the internet I just want to use it for back up and file storage for now. The message i get from the pc when i try to access the airport disk is "could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBIOS is enabled and try again (53)."
I have tried to add the IP Address to my Norton software, I have even disabled Norton and that didn't help. I have tracked down the secret location of the NetBIOS and made sure it was enabled...but i get the same message.
Anyone have any other ideas? I love the TC for MAC but i need it to work for both systems or I'm going to have to take it back! Please help!

Ok...I stumbled onto the solution after being told by several people to have windows rebuilt and almost charged $130 from Dell Tech Support!
While attempting to share files from my Dell to back up on my Mac in order to reformat windows...yea it was getting to that point...Windows had me run the network setup wizard. During the set up there is a "file and printer sharing" choice to make and the default is of course "turn off file and printer sharing" which is of course the key to accessing the TC.
I did complete the setup for a new network, renaming the workgroup and making sure the other settings jived with all the TC settings I have thrashed through for nearly two weeks.
I hope this saves someone a little time and a lot of frustration. Thanks to all the other posts about this issue, it was good to know that other people face the same type of problem and there were a million ways around it.

I bought a new EXTREME with the purpose of hooking up a USB harddrive to share with all my macs; I have successfully copied files as large as 100 MB, but when I try to copy my IPHOTO library (8 gigs) it gives me a disconnect error after about 15 minutes and I have to sign off of the network and sign on again via the AIRPORT icon in the upper right of the screen; I am writing my file from a G5 IMAC and the hard disk I am using is NEWER TECHNOLOGY 500 GB drive. How do I access virtual "Hard Disk 2"?

I have created a new virtual machine. I have a initially created a Parent drive and set it as READ ONLY. In my new VM I created Hard Disk 1 as a Differencing disk that references the parent drive. I created Hard Disk 2 as a Dynamic Disk. When I launch
the machine I only have the single virtual "C" drive available. I was expecting another drive to be available. How do I access Hard Disk 2 - or am I not understanding the purpose of the additional hard disks?

Have you gone into Disk Manager and initialized the drive? When you create a new VHD, it's just a blank virtual hard disk. You need to initialize, partition, and format it before it's usable in Windows.

Cannot access external hard disk

I keep all my data in Segate external hard disk. Today I wanted to set up windows using Boot camp. The window installed but at the end it froze. By mistake I kept the External hard disk connected to my Macbook Pro. When I rebooted I cannot find the my external hard disk. I tried to access through Mac partiton but it displays waring.
Saying I need to Initialize the external hard disk. That mean I will end up with erased hard disk which is not i want. Is there any option. ?
It looks like Mac OS cant recognise the drive at all. When I open the Disk Uitiluty I can see the drive.

Try opening Disk Utility and try repairing the disk. It might hopefully be able to repair it. Otherwise you're probably looking at needing a tool like DiskWarrior 4…

Mac losses connection to the airport hard disk while the pc not !!!

I have an airport extreme (802.11n), Macbook 13" and Powerbook G4 15". And two windows PCs. Every day the mac computers losses the connection to the hard disk that is connected to the airport, and asking for the password, but it fail. While the PCs at the same time having no problems at all. Everyday I have to reboot the airport to use the hard disk. This is strange the Apple product is more compatible with Microsoft windows that OS X !!!!
Note: I have the first airport extreme (802.11n), not the gigabyte.

I am also having this problem. If the PC is not connected, there are no problems sharing files off the drive, but as soon as I connect using Windows, the Macs drop their connection.
The HDD is a 1TB Western Digital My Book. It is connected to the AirPort Extreme via USB.

Accessing USB hard disks

I attached a USB hard disk to a workstation with Solaris 9/Sparc. The hard disk does not have a slice table but an x86 partition table so I just want to access the disk using /dev/rdsk/c?t?d?s2 (whole disk) or any equivalent method.
/var/adm/messages shows the following messages:

Looking at the sources of "OpenSolaris" I found out that opening hard disks without a valid partition table is possible specifying the O_NDELAY flag. This works on Solaris 9, too.
However I found out that my USB hard disk has a hardware problem (does not work with Windows XP) so I cannot test if reading the hard disk works.

Unable to access Airport Extreme Disk With Vista

I have a network with a Mac Book Pro, G5, and now a Vista PC all connected to an Airport Extreme. Connected to the AE are a printer and two harddrives. The harddrives are formatted HFS+ Journaled. All three computers have access to the Internet and to the printer. The Vista computer is unable to access the harddrives (most of the time). Prior to the Vista machine I had an XP Pro machine that was able to access the AE without any problems at all. The Vista machine will occasionally be able to access the drives but only for approximately 60 seconds. Access, when it does occur, is typically after a reboot of the AE. Following a reboot, I can map the AE drives to drive letters or simply access them from networking for from IE.
I've tried turning off the Windows firewall as well as the McAfee one and still no solution.
I've tried everything I can think of as well as scanned message boards to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

am having similar problems with USB drive connected to airport extreme. I tried with a usb key and it can only be seen by the airport base station agent and computers on the network if it is formatted using FAT32 file system. if I use any other file system to format the usb key, it cannot be seen. I have some external hard drives that windows will not allow me to to format using fat32. they are NTFS formatted and are not usable.
You might try formatting your drives in FAT32 if you can, after backing up all the files you have on the drive. then see if it works.

I can not access my hard disk protected by Bitlocker drive despite the right recovery key

I had locked my 1 TB harddisk 1 year back with BitLocker Drive. I have been using its recovery key to unlock it since then. But since 3 days back, it has been displaying the message " Error recovering disk. The recovery key entered is not correct, try

One of the greatest feature of MBAM is single-sign of Recovery Key which means if a recovery key is used once, it will be automatically re-generated. So, first match the 8 digit starting of Recovery ID with its associated recovery key.
Or re-request for the Recovery Key to your MBAM Administrator by providing him the starting 8 digit recovery ID. You can also get the recovery key again using the MBAM self-Service Portal.
