Accessing certain web pages

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite P205-6337 running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I can't seem to access certain web pages. One example is I can go to AOl's Homepage with no issues, but the minute I click on anything from the sign-on log-in to an article on the page I get a windows explorer window that states, " Internet Explorer can not open the internet site http://www.aol.com/. And below it "Operation aborted." When I click on OK it then goes back to an Internet Explorer cannot display this page. Thanks in advance.

Satellite P205-S6337
You use Internet Explorer 7 still?
Why do I receive an "Operation aborted" error message when I visit a Web page in Internet Explorer?

  • Having problems accessing certain web pages online.

I have no problem going to web pages when I bypass the airport extreme. When I connect my G4 notebook to the airport extreme it does not allow me to go to certain web pages.

I'm having the same issue too! I noticed it the night I installed Leopard, so I was thinking it was Mail and Safari 3 acting up. But tonight I unhooked the AEBS and was able to access my site and email just fine.
I've tried resetting the AEBS several times, but it hasn't helped.

  • Cannot access certain web pages using ANY browser (when other systems can)

(As [BDAqua|http://discussions.apple.com/profile.jspa?userID=528118] noted, this issue may be separate from [that which Alexander Solo is experiencing|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1467311], though many aspects are the same or very similar. I've mostly copied my original post in that thread to this new one).
I'm having trouble accessing a handful of particular web pages/domains, from my Mac Mini G4, using Safari (latest), Firefox (latest), Camino, Opera, Mozilla, IE, OmniWeb... I've tried every browser I have. It's really a problem as I'm taking a course in Web App Development now where we need to be able to access a course site which uses the code we are learning... and I can't because the page just doesn't load. There are lots of other students in the program using Macs, even members of the course team... I'm the only one who can't load that page.
Anyway, a seemingly-random few sites just don't load for me, consistently... some of them are important to me, others not so, but one is critical and it's been driving me bonkers. It's not a router issue, since it doesn't matter where I'm plugged into the router and my wife's Dell notebook (Vista) accesses any of these pages (when she has it here). A friend of mine was also able to access them, both from his house and plugged into the same router as I was, at the same time (Dell notebook/XP Pro).
A few of the pages that won't load:
(The course web page... other https pages at the Open University load fine, though, so it doesn't seem to be an https issue.)
http://www.hotmail.com quickly redirects twice, stopping at:
[http://login.live.com/?id=2] ... and then does nothing... I don't use Hotmail, but my wife sometimes tries to access it (or was trying) if she leaves her notebook at work.
I also can't load any page on the versiontracker website:
[http://www.versiontracker.com] ... that is really a drag for me.
There are a few, seemingly random, other sites that just don't load and haven't been loading for about a couple of months now. I don't know if I might have installed some bad app or something (I've checked and my system is negative for the DNSChanger trojan... not that I've ever visited pr0n sites... ).
The problem has persisted through re-boots of the system and the router. I've tried booting from a firewire backup drive (I believe that one was still pre-security-release 2008-002, but otherwise nearly the same) and the problem persisted in all browsers. I've tried terminating processes that I didn't think were necessary to be running. I've tried fixing permissions, running diagnostic/repair apps, anything and everything I could think of. When attempting to find a solution on Google, I found a number of other mainstream news sites and such which also didn't load (at all), even after several minutes, but I haven't ; and of course trying to find mention of the problem in a Google search yields waaay too many irrelevant hits to have yielded an answer. I'm starting to suspect malware, since the problem doesn't make any sense and, if a culprit wrote something to do this, in addition to the "random" sites, they might block certain sites where we might find answers. I found a few more sites which didn't load (news sites and such) when I was doing a run through what Google could come up with. One of significance was:
[CNET's news.com domain|http://www.news.com> ... Though I haven't had a chance to have another local user check, it seems to fit the pattern of the others (doesn't load in Safari or Firefox, etc) and doesn't load even if I use the IP address: [216.239.113.101|216.239.113.101]
In short: It sounds like just the same [problem Alexander Solo is having|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1467311], except that I can access the site he can't, so it's not a situation where we can say "technology x is running on these sites and our pre-Intel Macs don't like it."
In short, I've tried everything I could think of to troubleshoot this problem (drive utilities, searches for known malware, terminating unnecessary processes, re-starting my system and router... so any help or ideas would be most appreciated.

I should add something which may indicate that I'm experiencing two separate issues: when it comes to news.com, versiontracker.com and other sites I've been unable to access, it's never seemed to matter whether I try to access a particular page on the site or the site root.
In the case of my course website, however, I'm able to at least partially load the course chair's (more-or-less empty) "home page" at the site root. It may be that packets from other people trying to access the site are not following anything like the same route, but I really know very little about all that. I had anticipated being completed moving to Bristol (England) by now (most of the other students on this "correspondence" course are in England), but my Mac is still sitting in Frankfurt, Germany. In any case, what loads of the site root, loads verrrrry slowly. Following is output of an attempted "traceroute" to the IP (a second attempt followed the same pathway with similar results):

Since my wife's (Vista) Dell notebook can access these sites from the same router (and I was able too for a while), I'm beginning to suspect that the issues may have started with my update to OS X 10.4.11 or the first security update. It has been quite a while since we've successfully been able load Hotmail (in any browser) on this machine. My smug "Mac guy" superiority is taking a serious hit with these issues...

  • IE can display certain web pages.

    Hi
IE 11 - when I try accessing certain web pages I get the following message:
Oops! Internet Explorer could not connect to.....
    Try reloading:
It only happens when I am using my OPTUS Service - USB Modem (3G).I have treid using other providers Telstra & TPG and they work fine.
OPTUS say it's because I am on 3G and said I need to upgrade to a 4G modem. It worked fine until a week ago.
I really do not understand internet - can anyone advise if what OPTUS are suggesting is the issue or could it be something else?
    Thanks

    Hi,
As S Guna suggested, this might be caused by DNS issue.
We may take a try with the following command:
    ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /registerdns
Type them in command line with admin rights.

  • Problems loading certain web pages

Lately, in the past week or two, I have been noticing that Safari wont load certain web pages. It jsut stops and then I get a blank white page with no error message. I have noticed this mostly with Facebook, but also found the same problems with Evite.com when I click the login link. I have tried using Firefox and it seems to d better, especially with Facebook, but it did hang up on it one time. I cant get to the login page on Evite with either browser. I am using OpenDNS, but dont have these things blocked. I can access them fine from a PC laptop through the same connection via my wireless modem.

Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utiities). Select Passwords on the left then delete the Evite under Names on the right. Launch Safari or Firefox, go to the Evite site and login. After typing in your password, click Always Allow
I opened Keychain, but there is nothing in there for Evite under passwords?
    Try Safari Maintenance
    Repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Tried this, but still having problems in both Safari and Firefox. Facebook seems to be random, more often not working than it is. Still no login page with Evite?

  • Can't connect to certain web pages

Most of the time everything works great but once in a while I am unable to connect to certain web pages. 2 weeks ago it was aol.com and steam.com. This lasted 3 days and the problem resolved. Today I cannot connect to gamespeak.com. All other websites load with no problems. It is only gamespeak that won't load. I have 3 computers in my house and all 3 cannot connect. 1 is win7 wired (chrome). another is a win7 laptop wireless (chrome). The other is a winxp system wired (IE8).
If I go to www.polysolve.com com I am able to connect. Current internet access FIOS.
    Any suggestions?

I can type anything into google and press search and I can only go to 3 of those pages, the others will say cant connect to server. Same with pictures, I google something, anything, go to images and half the pictures will be question marks and then the others I click on may or may not have server connection.

  • Certain web pages load a blank white screen

Hi, I have Macbook OS X 10.9.4.  I recently developed a problem loading certain web pages in both Safari and Chrome.  These pages will load a blank white screen.  I recently installed Mavericks and the issue was gone for a little while, but it came back the next day and persists.  Thank you in advance for you suggestions.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

After upgrading to FF7, I get Corrupted Content Error on certain web pages, Why? When I try to log in to certain sites to get email or when I try to access a few sites I get a Corrupted Content Error message. If I use Internet explorer the sites work fine. You can get such an error if there are multiple location redirects send via the HTTP response headers.<br />

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Won't load certain web pages - Happens in all browers - Won't do windows updates

This server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1) is used to host thin clients as well as RDP sessions.  One morning the office is fine, they come back from lunch and all of the sudden they can't load certain web pages, such as adobe.com
and pandora.com to name a couple.  This was roughly 3 days ago.
1.)  I have tried machines that are not connected to this server (not thin client or RDP), but are on the same network, they can load up any web page fine with no issues.
2.) On the server I have tried Opera, Chrome, IE and Firefox, all have the same exact problem.
3.) Tried different DNS servers just to be sure, even though it only effects the server and no one else.
Based on these facts I know that it is something wrong with the server, but not tied to a specific brower.  In all browsers when you load up a page in question it just sits there with a blank screen trying to load, it never generates any errors.
The Event Viewer is also clean, no errors.  So with no errors I have had trouble trying to find a starting place for this.  Things I have tried:
1.) ipconfig /flushdns to try and clear out any DNS issues
2.) Changing the DNS servers for the server to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2
3.) Scanning for Viruses and Malware/Spyware
4.) Checking proxy settings on the server
5.) Updating and then removing Adobe Flash (thought it was tied to flash at first).  Problem persists even with no flash player installed.
6.) Completed a failed update of .net, no effect
7.) Loading up browsers in debug mode to try and find anything in the site code that I could relate between failed sites.  I found nothing I could identify
Of all issues to finally be stumped on this seems like an easy one, but I can't even begin to come up with an idea at this point.
I have tried to lay out all of the facts that I know as plainly as I can.  I am hoping that someone has seen this before as this issue is effecting a number of differnt users and keeping them from doing portions of their job.
Help is most appreciated, thank you!

I was able to figure out a solution.
    CAUSE:
It appears that the Internet isn’t fully up to date and ready to use EDns -- which is enabled on Windows Server 2008 R2 by default. The solution for this is to disable Edns. Note that this isn’t
a problem for most Windows Server 2008 R2 member servers.  It’s only a problem for DNS *servers* that do recursive lookups.  i.e. likely only your domain controller will be affected if that is where your DNS Server role exists.
    SOLUTION:
To disable EDns, you can do it from the command prompt, or by editing the registry.
Create a DWORD called EnableEDNSProbes and set to 0 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DNS\Parameters
Restart the DNS Server service for it to take effect.

  • Safari won't open certain web pages

    Hi,
I can't get Safari to open certain web pages. This has only been the case for the last week or so, I could happily view them before.
    2 examples are : www.facebook.com and www.quaysws.co.uk
can anybody please help, it just seems a bit weird...

I just got this link, http://www.quaysws.co.uk/flash/page1.php,
to open in both Safari and Firefox. Mind you at the same time, I cannot get Apple.com to open in Safari I'm running Leopard with Safari 3.0.4. Whoa Safari just decided that Apple.com does exist and opened it without me first having to restart the computer. Safari definitely has some bugs but you may want to make sure that you don't have any 3rd party add-ons set up and you may have to reinstall.

  • Can't access teaming web page

Hi, I've installed teaming 2.1 on a sles11 x64 virtual machine. I've used sun java jdk 1.6.21. After install I start the teaming server but then can't access the web page (I've used port 8080 in the URL). I used default network settings. I believe the mysql database has been created correctly. I think the problem is with Tomcat/java. I've included the output of tail --f catalina.out
/opt/novell/teaming/apache-tomcat-6.0.18/bin/catalina.sh: line 309: /usr/jre/bin/java: No such file or directory

the path shown in the first line of this output is not what I specified for java during the installation of teaming (I used /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21). Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Lou

    Hi Lou,
Have you set an environment var for the JAVA_HOME?
you can set it system wide, create or edit /etc/profile.local, and add:
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21
Then reboot the system so the env var gets set globally.
If the site is still not accessible, rerun the Teaming install choosing to reconfigure, double check the JAVA_HOME path set and see if that does the trick.
    Cheers,
    Willem

  • Garbled fonts on certain web pages

On certain web pages, particularly xckd.com, tvtropes.org, and many MediaWiki sites, certain fonts (mostly Lucida Grande and Arial, usually when bolded) don't render properly, replacing characters with spaces, boxes, or occasionally dollar signs. Whatever's causing it seems to have something to do with stylesheets, since if I shut stylesheets off, it works fine. There's no evidence of corrupted fonts, it doesn't do the same thing on Firefox, and if I try to use one of the community Webkit builds I see no difference at all.
Thoughts? (I can post screenshots if necessary, though I'm not entirely sure how...)

    Hi OffSeason,
There's a lot of undefined font calls in the CSS files you link to. xkcd simply calls for "Lucida", which is not a valid font call. A font name must be the entire name for it to work correctly. A poor choice actually since generally, only Mac users have "Lucida Grande". There are a lot of different Lucida typefaces, but I assume you're expecting OS X's Lucida Grande.
It's better to call multiple fonts to cover both Macs and PCs. For instance, in my font article, the body font is called as font-family: "Lucida Grande", Arial. What this does is tell the browser to use Lucida Grande first if it's available. If not, use Arial instead.
Anyway, since no valid font is called, your browser is supposed to use whatever is set as the default sans serif font in your browser preferences. Which in Safari, is Courier. Though if I cut and paste random lines of text out of either page you link to and paste it into TextEdit, they all come up as Helvetica.
That again is due to the web designer's lack of defining a font. The main.css for tvtropes properly calls for "ComicSansMS" where they want that to show up (though it isn't used anywhere on the main page), but that is followed by the substitution of just "sans-serif". That's nothing, which is why my browser is using Helvetica, a sans serif font. If they want the visitor to see a specific sans serif font, they must call it out by name. Many of the CSS font calls are simply for "sans serif", which leaves it up to your browser to essentially use something at random.

  • Certain web pages are stuck in large text in Safari

I've been having this issue since I got my Air last year.  Certain web pages (MSNBC and Google to name a few) are stuck in really large text.  Other web pages are fine.   I've tried resetting th browser, deleting cookies, etc.  But I cannot seem to fix this issue.  Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

Sorry.  I poked around furhter and finally found the issue.  The font sizes were too big!  Not sure when I could have done that, but there you go.  This question can be closed down.

Why is safari loading certain web pages so slowly?

    Emptied the Safari cache lately?
Press Command + Option + E then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, try this DNS.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
