I can access Discoverer 3i internally on a network, but as soon as I try it over the Internet, it can't locate the locator.ior file. any suggestions?

We run Disco4i under Apache, coming with Oracle 8.1.7 EE w/o installing 9iAS.
It may runs on every webserver..

Hi,
I'm having a problem with the following....
I am trying to setup a scheduler for generating discoverer reports, without using the discoverer scheduler. I want to be able to easily print them off in a particular location.
This is fine for normal reports with simple url's but complicated url's are causing me a problem. I have created a java program which will build the url string from some set parameters using the URL class.
Parameters include Responsibility, user name, password, workbook and the workbooks parameters.
The problem is that discoverer will not allow the request asking the user to reenter his password. Even when a site check indicates that the url is exactly correct.
I have even taken the generated url and cut and pasted it into the browser without success. I don't think it is a java issue but maybe how the system is setup.
Any help would be useful!

You cannot embed the password on the java command line. This was determined to be a security breach because the password would have been in plain view. In order to make a URL work you need to be working with the full application server and be using either private or public connections, ideally with SSO enabled.
All you do is run the report as usual from within Viewer when connected as the user you want to be connected as. You can then copy the URL from the address bar at the top of your browser and paste this into a new browser. If a public connection is being used without SSO the report will execute. If SSO is enabled then SSO authentication is required. If a private connection is being used without SSO then the password will be prompted, whereas if a private connection is being used and you are using SSO then the password will be remembered by SSO and supplied for the user.

Accessing Discoverer Viewer on a PDA

Hi,
Could anyone tellme if it would be possible to access discoverer viewer on a PDA running windows mobile 2003?
We have a Portal running the discoverer portlets and when I click "Analyze" link the discoverer viewer errors with a java null pointer.
Has anyone tried this?
Also, I assume that I may need a JVM on the PDA?

Again, there is no way to do such thing. It is mainly because MIDP target a large range of mobile products which not necessarily have those address book or other databases.

RMI protocol over JRMP transport error when accessing Discoverer Plus

Hi,
I just upgraded my Discoverer to 9.0.2.54.01. I can successfully access my Discoverer Viewer Workbooks but not my Discoverer Plus. When I try to access Plus, Applet will be started, and then it will prompt the RMI protocol error:
Attempt 1. RMI protocol over JRMP transport: Connection refused to host: 127.0.0.1; nested exception is:*
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect*
Attempt 2. RMI protocol over http transport : Unable to attach to existing session.*
I used browsers Mozilla3.0.5 and IE7.

Hi Andy
It could be a Java incompatibility issue. On one of your client machines try removing Java altogether and then reconnecting to Discoverer Plus. The server should send down a new, clean version of the Java.

URL's host name is changed when i am clicking to expand report link for work sheet selection. I have installed Oracle 10g AS and discoverer and trying to access work sheets over internet using discoverer viewer.

Thank you for your response. I did not changed fully qualified domain name. I am trying to access the discoverer viewer from outside of our LAN through internet. I have configured firewall to allow HTTP trafic to exposed server and mapped public IP and port to local discoverer server (port forwarding) to route discoverer viewer requests to discoverer server. Discover server is in our local domain with local IP address. I am able to view the viewer login and Worksheet list page with public IP in discoverer URL. When i am clicking to expand worksheet in worksheet list page, viewer changes the IP address part of URL to local host name. This local host name is not resolved outside and IE shows the 'Page Not Found' error. Pl suggest the way to resolve this issue.

Well typically one only links Viewer from within E-Business Suite.
However, if you're able to set up a button that has a URL link you should be able to connect to Plus. The issue would be whether the user's connection information could be passed this way and, to be totally frank, I have a suspicion that this is not possible. I have a nasty feeling that the user would need to re-authenticate to Plus.
Viewer is different and it is possible to automatically pass the logged in user's authentication details.
There are some talented folks in this forum who use E-Business Suite a lot more than I do and if I have made a mistake I know I will be corrected.

The Character is rough-and-tumble accessing discoverer via OEM

Dear all.
I'm new for ora9ias. I have some install questions.
In the first machine, I only installed Oracle9iAS Infrastructure. The product language included simple chinese and english. and I selected the default character set.
In the second machine, i installed oracle9ias.
Then I successfully accessed the OEM like this website http://sec.mach.com:1810.
But when i access the discoverer from the system groupware, i find that the
character is rough-and-tumble except english.
Must i use the UTF8 as character set in Infrastructure? if yes, can i change the
character set without reinstalling Infrastructure.
Please give me the answer. thank you.

An Extra Window opens when accessing discoverer reports.

Hi All,
I have upgraded the jinit version from 1.3.1.8 to 1.3.1.9 in oracle discoverer (9.0.2.0.1). But after upgradation when try to access the forms URL and then report which is club with oracle discoverer reports every time an extra IE Window opens with public links , I mean whenevr try to access new report an extra IE Window opens
do anyone have idea how to resolve this?

Is there a way to use Oracle Discoverer's EUL from XML Publisher to build a report instead of creating a query directly?
I'm just thinking of providing the ability to build fancy reports using XML Publisher to the end user that Oracle Discoverer doesn't provide.

I have the same issue with XML Publisher.
I made a directory under the xmlpserver\Reports called Guest.
When i sign in with guest(without password), i can see and launch
my report.
But when use directly this URL:
http://mycomputer:15101/xmlpserver/myreportdirectory/myreport.xdo
the browser open the sign in page.
Is there a mistake on the url or the configuration ?

Cannot access Discoverer plus

Hi Experts,
I have a question.
i am using Discoverer for several months, but sudden today i got an error giving me a error window stating this (IE RUN FROM LAYER IE EXTENSION (as heading of the window) , CREATE PROCESS FAILED(3)(details of the window)
Is this the fault of Discoverer or the internet explorer. i am not able to open the loginpage itself

i guess it is not accessible in greater vesrions of IE and Mozilla.

Error in starting Discoverer Plus

Hi all,
I am trying to access Discoverer plus 4i through
http://<hostname.domain>:<port>/discwb4/html/english/ms_ie/welcome_ie.htm
i can view the start page for Disc plus but when i click on the image to start Disc plus, it is initializing for a long time.
When i tried connecting to Disc veiwer it's working fine. Problem is with Disc plus, unable to get the CONNECTION window in Disc plus.
Can anyone help me on this ?

1. Gate keeper connection failed
2. Failed to connect to locator using OSAgent
I checked with discoverer services, they are up and running even locator and Gatekeeper too

How to enable Scheduling in Discoverer for Oracle users?

For accessing discoverer, our users are uaing Oracle usernames.
how can i enable scheduling for them?
we have already enabled scheduling for users who use database login to use discoverer. but not able to link oracle users to database.
are they linked through the responsibilities they use for logging?

Hi Gayatri
If you're working in Apps mode and logging in with an E-Business Suite user account then by default the database account that will be used to access the database is APPS. You should not change this and there is nothing that you need to do to set this up apart from grant the user permission to schedule. You do that on the Scheduled Workbooks tab of the Privileges dialog box after choosing Tools | Privileges in the Administrator tool.
On a non-E-Business Suite application you can either grant privileges direct to the user or you can specify a proxy user for storing the scheduled results. In order to create such a proxy user you would need to run the script called batchusr.sql which you will find in this folder: $ORACLE_HOME\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\util on the Windows machine where you have installed the Discoverer Administrator tool. In most cases this will be: C:\Oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\util
