Accessing EAS 7.1.3 locally

Hi,<BR><BR>A colleague of mine is going abroad on business and she needs to be able to have access to EAS 7.1.3 to load and re-pull data, but our IT dept have said that this is not possible. We know we have the possibility to dial in but we need to be able to use it without being connected to the server, just running on a PC. I wondered if anyone on here knows of a way round this. It's only one database that is needed for this purpose??<BR><BR>Any help will be really appreciated<BR><BR>Many Thanks<BR>Sarah

I don't know whether this will help or not, but it is possible to put an EAS server on a PC as well as a console. But then that server would still have to talk to the Essbase server, but your IT department might be willing to open the ports for Essbase rather than EAS. On the other hand, the I/O traffic between EAS and Essbase might be lighter than that between the EAS console and server.<BR><BR>The question that needs to be addressed is the nature of your dialup connection. If it's a true VPN, it would not be technically difficult to allow EAS to communicate over a remote connection. With the right VPN software, worldwide travel and work are easily handled. Worldwide telephone service then becomes the difficuly, but internet access and a VPN can even avoid flaky telephones.<BR><BR>The difficulty is that what is technically possible may be politically difficult or impossible. When IT says it can't do something, the question is, "Why?" One answer is always technical, another has to do with network and system security, another breaks down to turf and politics. It may be that IT doesn't want to put in a process that it can support 24/7 for a remote user. Is your traveller using a company owned laptop with EAS console on it? If not, use of a personal system might be prohibited by IT policy. If your company does not have a secure VPN setup, that is a big issue. Likewise, some companies maintain remote access for mainfarme applications and not network applications -- so Essbase might be outside the scope of remote access. There also might be remote authentication issues.<BR><BR>One solution might be to automate the loads with MAXL and not even use EAS for loading. Data pulls can be done with Excel/VBA or MAXL and MDX or Essbase report scripts. It may be possible that someone who is staying in the office can do the database work and email the results to your traveller. If your traveller is going to be touching base at a company office overseas, possibly the access can be made available at the office.<BR><BR>This probably raises more questions than answers, but there are a lot of things to consider in remote access. While the technology can be easy to install, installing it securely is the issue that need be addressed. If your collegue is travelling regularly, a different level of effort is needed than might be for one who travels rarely. I've used Essbase and EAS remotely, so I know that it is possible. And in previous positions, I had regular users in Europe and the British Isles many of whome accessed Essbase from their offices. <BR><BR>One solution that may or may not be available now is Personal Essbase. I hade a sales force with personal essbase on their laptops and provided them with weekly data loads so that they could have access to essbase data without having to have a network connection. I also had region controllers who cut back on their use of personal essbase when the company adopted a VPN solution.<BR><BR>So it's technically possible, but there are a lot of issues to be addressed. In my experience, working through the process with the network and systems folks is more work than the actual technical part of the solution.

  • Error 404 while trying to access eas console

We are getting error 404 all of a sudden when trying to access eas console. We have checked to make sure that all the services are up and running, and the port(10080) is up and running.
We had a similar error with workspace a while back, and we had to modify port numbers on the mod_wl_ohs.conf file.
But we find that the port numbers are unchanged this time in the conf file.
Is there any other port we can use for eas console? http://<servername>:10080/easconsole/console.html
All other services that sit on the same server work fine.(workspace, APS etc)
Has anybody seen this kind of problem before?
    Thanks.

If you are using 11.1.2 search for 404 in the EPM readme at: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_1112000_readme.pdf
What happens if if the install user logs into the machine and then out temp files in use by the application are removed; out of the box the user temp variables are used during deployment; there is a work-around to turn off terminal service feature to delete files on exist.
In addition to confirming the service is up and running and the port answers you should review the syserror and sysout files which for 11.1.1.X are located in <HYPERION_INSTALL_DRIVE>\Hyperion\logs\services and in 11.1.2.X are located in <ORACLE_INSTALL_DRIVE>\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem1\diagnostics\logs\services

  • There was a problem connecting to the server "my server.local" this file is available on your computer. Access the files and volumes locally.

    Hi,
I have a strange problem connecting one of the office laptops (Macbook Pro 10.7) to the disk in the Apple Time Capsule.  It's just one laptop that has this problem and the other 3 no problems at all and they all run OS X 10.7 Lion, I can access the Time Capsule disk over WAN on all machines but locally on the problem machine i get this message "There was a problem connecting to the server "myserver.local" this file is available on your computer. Access the files and volumes locally."   Now from this message it sounds like the problem laptop thinks the network drive (Time Capsule) is the same as it's self in the way of name or address however they clearly have different IP addresses locally.
Any ideas on this would be apreciated as I can only think a clean install but don't want to do this if not necessary.
    Thanks
    Jarrah

I think I gave you some bad info in the above, where i enterered the text "myserver.local" & "example.local" this was the host name of the server (Time Capsule) so not local on the computer.
No i didn't try your method, I'll give it a go - I thought the folder option was for local files and not on a server ?

  • Smb. Access the volumes and files locally. all lies!

I want to connect to a windows box which has sharing enabled. I was doing this yesterday and it was fine. Today, Mavericks has thrown in the towel and decided to think different.
What I normally do is CMD-K and connect to the server. I'll type it in - smb://tardproof - but it can't do it.
So I'll try connecting to it by it's known, fixed IP address - smb://192.168.0.107 - and ...
Hmm, that's strange. Since the mac clearly thinks it *can* see it on the network, otherwise why would it be listing it in the finders' "Shared" area? I mean, that's an automatic thing and not something you can command-drag out like normal locations...
ok.. so if I try to click on it there ...
    Maybe it's authentication. I'll "Connect as ..."
Dang! Ok, lets think about this. Maybe it's SMB playing up. I know, I'll connect forcing SMB1, since I know Mavericks now defaults to v2.
    and
Dang! (again). No, wait, the message has changed. "Access the volumes and files locally." Sweet, let me just
    I'm sorry, where?
hmm, lets just check this out
so ok, there's definately nothing there in /Volumes, but I know I can ping it. Let's have a look from the other end - can Windows see my mac?
Yep. All good there. So we have a single direction smb system, in the exact opposite than I need.
    Dang!

This has been happening repeatedly and has been reported to the hosts in the Lounge. They "are working on a fix."

  • The server is available on your computer. Access the volume and files local

I recently did a clean install on my MacBook (from Leopard to Snow Leopard) and got this error when attempting screen sharing. I provide limited support at my office and do that primarily through screen sharing. One thing I noticed after the install was not only could I not screen share with anyone on the local network, but if anyone tried to connect access my shared folder it would actually open the shared folder of another computer on the network.
Whereas Screen Sharing would simply time out if I attempted to connect to the majority of computers on the network. However, when I tried connecting to the machine whose shared folders would open if someone tried connecting to my computer, I got the "Connection failed. The server is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally." error.
After performing a hard reset on our Airport Base Station I am now able to screen share with the other computers on our network EXCEPT for the one that gave me the error in quotes above. Any ideas?

    Hi,
I also encountered this error but in a different situation : after having restored my Lion installation from a Time Machine backup, everything was okay except that I couldn't connect to any disk attached to my Airport extreme.
I searched for hours and even restored my backup a second time. The problem is specific to only one client since my Macbook was still able to connect to the AE. I ended up resetting all the settings on the AE and restoring them one by one.
The problem appears when I restore the address range distributed by the AE's DHCP server to the one that was configured before.
Thus the solution seems to change this address range. Must be something related to a network route or cache or anything like this.
I hope it will help anybody who encounters this problem. Luckily it seems there are very few : the number of occurences of this problem in google is very low.

  • The server is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally.

I have actually solved this issue. However, it was not easy to find support for this specific issue. Here's the problem and solution that worked for me.
    The Problem
I had an issue with my Macbook Pro and Mac Pro connecting to each other. All of a sudden, I got this message "The server COMPUTERNAME is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally."
    The Solution
After a bit of digging, I found this article:
    http://www.alexanderwilde.com/2011/04/os-x-lion-connection-error-with-afp-and-wo rkaround/
Steps 1 and 2 of that article seemed to do the trick for me:
    Launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and do:
    sudo chmod o+w /Library/Preferences
    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleShareClient afp_host_prefs_version -int 1
    Now restart your computer.
From Finder, select an AFP server, or use “Connect To…”.  This will cause the AFP Client to create the full preferences file.
Thanks to http://www.alexanderwilde.com for helping me solve this.

  • Unable to connect to Time Capsule: "Access the volumes and files locally"

I've been experiencing a problem for about two months now with no ability to connect to my Time Capsule. I have other systems in my household including being able to access from a Windows desktop and another older MacBook.
When I attempt to connect to the Time Capsule, I receive an error "The server <Capsule Name> is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally."
I've attempted various fixes including changing the network sharing name of my laptop and time capsule name via AirPort Utility as suggested in the following link without success:
    http://positivelyglorious.com/software-media/snow-leopard-afp-access-the-volume- and-files-locally/
I've also seen that this was previously posted late last fall without any satisfactory resolution at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10526171
And none of the troubleshooting helpful hints in the following link are applicable or resulted in any resolution of my problem:
    http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html
With now two months of no backup, this is getting a bit ridiculous. I had hoped a OSX update would have helped but as of yet no glory.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help any of you might be able to provide!
    Thanks,
    Tim

Several volumes and folders have been shared and they are accessible within LAN. The problem is that I cannot even connect to the server, even though the connection has been established. Mac OS X always seems to think that it has already been connected and they are readily available but it's not listed under Network.
Looking at other topics, this seems to be a prevalent problem but I don't find any solution for this yet.

  • " ... available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally"

Uh, help. Powerbook G3 10.4.11, and a Mac Mini Intel, both attached to a Linksys.
    192.168.1.2 and .3
Yesterday I had a Drop Box folder on the Powerbook showing up properly on the Mini.
Never have gotten a DropBox folder on the Mini to be found from the Powerbook.
Today after some reboots for other reasons, no connection. I try the "Go" menu that used to work for 192.168.1.3 and get
"The server “192.168.1.3” is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally.
    Okay.
Where is it and how do I find it to access it?

Ah, I see it's happened to others:

I don't have an Airport, and Back to My Mac was turned off (eliminating the two possible answers suggested at that thread)

  • Server is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally

I set up a VPN incoming call from a Windows XP server at home and I have an iMac in the office with Snow Leopard 10.6.5.
I manage to connect to VPN to the Windows XP server at home but everytime I Connect To Server to the IP address, it always comes back with an error: "Server is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally".
Um... where is this volumes and files? The Finder does not have it. Going to Terminal and ls the Network directory comes up empty.
Can anyone help? How can I connect to a Windows server via VPN?
    Thanks.

  • Without providing access of mass storage, allow access of data card or local printer ,

    Hello,
Pls assist in exploring the possibility to allow access of data card or local printer  without providing access of mass storage.
    Balwan Singh

    Hello Balwan Singh,
You can use two methods on is using Administrative Template and the other is using Preferences, both are available within the GPO in Domain Controllers with 2008 and later.
    Option 1: Administrative Template.
This setting can be configured either at Computer or User level.
    You need to go to:
Computer or User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access
In here you can Enable the setting "Removable Disks: Deny read access" or "Removable Disks: Deny write access"
Just be aware that this settings does not apply to a servers at a "User Configuration" level.
    Option 2: Preferences.
This setting can be configured either at Computer or User level.
    You need to go to:
    Computer or User Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel\Devices
In here you need to create a new item as follows:
    - Right click and select new --> Device
    - On General Tab you can select two "Action" options "Use this device (enable)" or "Do not use this device (disable)" in this case you should use the second option "Do
    not use this device (disable)"
    - On "Device class:" you can browse the devices attached to the computer from where you are configuring this GPO.
In this list yo need to choose the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" node and among the options listed in here you should choose the "USB Mass Storage Device" which is the class used for USB drives.
Remember that if you are configuring the GPO from a domain controller probably you do not see the "USB Mass Storage Device" in the "Universal
Serial Bus controllers" node since there does not exists a USB drive directly attached to your domain controller.
You can workaround this by either connect a USB drive to your Domain Controller or connect with the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC.msc) from a workstation on which you can safely plug a USB drive just to be able to visualize it and configure your GPO.

  • Attempting to Save data from an access database file into a local variable for use.

Hello! i'm trying to develop a small text based game in Visual Basic 2013 and I've recently decided i need to use a more sophisticated data storage system then dozens of .txt files and stream-readers. i'm using Microsoft access and i completed my database
last night. it stores the stat and skill values of the player-character and the non-player characters. the problem is i cannot bring the data into visual basic in a usable way. using ado.net i can bring a single record into the system as a detail view and
then read the data in from the labels but i'd far prefer to have it done purely through code. the book i purchased only covers data grid views and detail view and I've spent several hours searching for a solution online.
for clarification. i need to read each value in a record into a variable so i can calculate the stats for the games combat system.

So, you want to select from MS Access?
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

  • Accessing public folders in the local network

I work with 8 other mac users and we all share files using our Public folders via local network. This is how we typically would access each other's Public folder: open a Finder window, choose Network, then choose the name of the mac that we want to connect to. Then, connect as "Guest". We are all on OS X Tiger.
Recently, one of us upgraded to the OS X Snow Leopard, and we couldn't access her Public folder since the switch. We believe she is on the network, because she has been printing to the network printer and can connect to all of our Public folders. I tried to follow this instruction from Apple Support page to set up file-sharing on her iMac (with Snow Leopard):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/17131.html
I hit a snag at #4 (bullet #2), because I couldn't find "network users" to add to the users list. When the rest of us try to connect to her computer, this is the message that we got:
The alias "Stacey's computer (3)" could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found."
Can someone help me with this problem? I have browsed the Discussions and Forums and didn't see anything that was helpful. Thanks!

    HI,
The Snow Leopard user... have her repair disk permissions and see if that helps...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

The best way around firewalls is to stream using port 80. This is a preference setting in QuickTime Streaming Server and QuickTime Broadcaster. This will allow the stream to pass through the hole in the firewall usually used for HTML (web page) traffic. HOWEVER, you cannot use this port if you are also running web server services (Apache) on the same computer/server since they need to use port 80 also. If you need to host a web site AND stream QuickTime using port 80, you will need two computers (or at least two IP addresses; one for each service which is a little tricky. If both services are trying to use port 80, weird things will happen, most often the HTML data will rule and the streams won't work. This has been my experience. Good luck!

  • Grant access to modify membership of local administrator group

    hello
I am active directory administrator and i like to grant a certain user access to modify membership of the local administrator group for computers in a specific OU only. i tried to do that via delegation of control to modify membership of the group,
however when he tries to modify administrators group of one computer on that ou, he gets a message with access denied. Is there a way to do that other than delegation of control.

    Hi,
According to your description, you want to grant the right to modify local administrator group membership on computers which belong to one specific OU through ADUC, right?
I don’t think it is possible via delegate control, since local administrator group membership can only be modified by local administrator on the local machine, what you did only grant the right to modify the group membership of
the specific OU, which means adding/deleting members within this OU.
In other words, you need to add this user into the local administrator group on local machines to achieve your goal.
