Accessing external DB from other computer?

i am migrating from a 2006 mac pro running Lion to a 2012 running yosemite.
two questions please.
1. can i /store/ the aperture database on a separate 1 TB drive in the 2012 machine with a number of other databases and simply have this drive be my "database" drive?
2. can i open and work on the aperture database on this drive that is in the 2012 machine (say if it is in the pictures folder on the 2012 machine or on the separate "database drive" in the 2012 machine) while i am booted into Lion on the 2006 machine? i mean, until i get totally set up to work in yosemite is this a possibility?
thanks

You can store your Aperture library on a second internal drive or a directly connected external drive. The file system of the drive needs to be MacOS Extended (Journaled). So if you want to recycle drives you used with a Windows computer, move all data off the drive, and reformat the drive with Disk Utility.
See this support document:  Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
If you want to access the drive from different user accounts set the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag, see: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users (the tile says iPhoto, but this holds also for Aperture).
If you want to use a library, that is on an internal disk on another mac, you cannot use the library over a network connection. You need a wired connection.  Boot the second Mac in target disk mode, see:    OS X Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
Target disk mode will mount the second computer as an external disk.

  • Access Aperture library from other computer for slideshows?

    Hi
    I have a macmini connected to my LCD TV. Before when I used to use iPhoto I could share my library on the network, and launch iPhoto on the tv to display slideshows from iPhoto on my macbook pro.
    Is there any way that is as easy or similar easy to display slideshows/photos on the TV/macmini with Aperture?

    I have this exact setup. Sharing an Aperture Library across a LAN between machines is doable, but problematic. I've corrupted my Aperture Library at least once this way.
    My MacPro is in the office and the Mac Mini is on a wired LAN connection (I wouldn't even attempt this over any flavor of WiFi.) I share the Pictures folder on my MacPro and cross-mount it on the Mini, which runs its own copy of Aperture +non-simultaneously with the MacPro+ (that is key - even if you have multiple licensed copies of Aperture on your LAN you +must not+ have multiple instances simultaneously accessing the common Aperture Library.) Then when Aperture starts up on the Mini I have pointed it to the common Aperture Library in the shared folder, cross my fingers and wait...and wait...and wait... until the Mini has loaded the Aperture Library across a 100BaseT ethernet connection.
    After 1-2 minutes the Mini will have gotten whatever it needs cached from the MacPro server, and then it runs rather responsively - at least until you switch projects.
    But I always get the heeby-jeebies running this way. One classic noob mistake I made was letting the Mini fall asleep after a slideshow +with Aperture still running and attached to the common library+, then starting Aperture back up on my MacPro, which thought it had full ownership of the library. Bad consequences. Not for the faint of heart.
    Is there any way that is as easy or similar easy to display slideshows/photos on the TV/macmini with Aperture?
    The most obvious safe way to do this would be if iPhoto - which allows read-access to your Aperture Library, if it can find it on your machine or network - would build slideshows from your Aperture images. Unfortunately this is not the case unless you literally import (ie make new copies of) the Aperture images into your iPhoto library, which kind of waters down the notion of "sharing".
    A better way, which I've tried with some success, is to use Aperture 3.x's *File->Export->Slideshow as New Library* command. The short version is: build the slideshow you want on your MacBook Pro, then Export it as a self-contained Aperture library across the network to your Mini. Use option-cmd when you open Aperture on your Mini and select that freshly exported library as your Mini's current Aperture Library (or use the new *File->Switch to Library* command and navigate to it.)
    This still incurs the overhead of copying files across machines, but it allows you to have full Aperture slideshow functionality on your Mini without actually sharing the library. (That flavor of Export command gives the option of copying over the preview images that will be used for the slideshow or letting your Mini regenerate them - the best choice depends on the speed of your network vs the speed of your Mini, size of preview images, etc.)
    A hybrid approach might be to leave the newly exported slideshow library on your MacBook, and +share just that library+ across the network after disconnecting it from your MacBook. It's hard to say whether that might be faster than transferring the whole library and its previews across the network - I haven't tried it.

    Hi,
    Can you please elaborate whether the data you are getting is from excel file or from database.
    1. If you are populating it from excel , then you can use the Excel service, Power pivot etc mechanism.
    2. If you are getting it from SQL database then you can use BCS service application and use the OOTB external list and content type to display the same in your home page.

  • How to access Enterprise manager from another computer

    Hi There,
    I have Oracle 10g installed on a PC. I can access EM from that PC.
    I would like to know how would I access EM Dbconsole from another computer under same LAN.
    Thanks
    Raf

    Opening the web browser, you can specify the hostname and the port configured to listen the incoming call.
    For example:
    https://hostname:port_number/em
    or
    https://ip_address:port_number/em
    you can get information about the information that you need from the "emctl"
    emctl status dbconsole
    Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.1.0
    Copyright (c) 1996, 2009 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
    https://hostname:1158/em/console/aboutApplication
    Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g is not running.

  • Is there any way to get the files from other computer ?

    Hai all,
    I have 2 computers connected. I know the IP address of other computer. Is there any way to get the files from other computer. (for e.g. I want to get the files from specific folder. In Java netwroking is it possible? (Any programs)
    regards,
    Namanc

    Bro Take it easy.
    Think you need to send a Image file named ("abc.gif")
    now develop a server using ServerSocket and connect it in local IP and any PORT
    For example i think ur server is connected in "localhost" and 9000 port.
    Now make ur server educated using some commands.
    For example:
    FileName: <File Name String>
    [Means new file is sending by connected client]
    FileSize: <File size long or int value>
    [ So that ur server can determind about the total length of sender file]
    DataModeOpen
    [Now your client will send its image data, this command means your client software is sending data]
    fjadlkfjaofaijojfwoeiurfodkjflsajlfksa
    l23j4lj23lkjlasjfoq23j4rokjelfkjasldkf
    2o3j4lk2j3ljslakdjf2l3j4 l23kjlk23k4j
    DataModeClose
    [Means file sending finished]
    Close
    [Means your client connection is closed]
    Now develop a client supporting this command.
    For example(Server):
    String getFileName=null;
    long getFileSize=0;
    public handleCommand(String getCmd) {
        if(getCmd.startsWith("FileName")) {
                String[] splitData=getCmd.split(":");
                this.getFileName=   splitData[1];
                outPutStream.writeBytes("+OK");
        } else if(getCmd.startsWith("FileSize")) {
                String[] splitData=getCmd.split(":");
                this.getFileSize=Long.parseLong(splitData[1]);
                outPutStream.writeBytes("+OK");
        } else if(getCmd.startsWith("DataModeOpen")) {
               //data mode open so receive data
              receiveData();
              outPutStream.writeBytes("+OK");
        } else if(getCmd.startsWith("DataModeClose")) {
              //close client socket
             getClientSocket.close();
    }For client:
    DataInputStream dataIn=null;
    BufferedOutputStream bout=null;
    public sendFile(bytes[] getBytes) {
            //if ok found then do other or show error message
        if(sendCmd("FileName:"+getFileName)) {
            if(sendCmd("FileSize:"+getFileSize)) {
                if(sendCmd("DataModeOpen")) {
                   bout.write(getBytes);
                } else {
                   showError(3);
            } else {
                   showError(2);
       } else {
            showError(1);
    }i think it will help u

  • Sync between Firefox English on WinXP and Firefox French on MacOS 10.5 (english or french) does not bring bookmarks (bug brings tabs from other computer)

    Sync between Firefox (latest) English on WinXP and Firefox French (same version) on MacOSX 10.5 PPC (iBook G4) (english or french) does not bring bookmarks (bug brings tabs from other computer). Account WORKS, yet sync does not sync anything BUT the "alien tabs". Using Sync to migrate plataforms in this scenario is impossible. Any hints here ? Thank you.

    After experimenting, each sync is scheduled on the each individual device and after all of them have completed, the about:sync-tabs page shows the updated tabs. It is not realtime, it seems to take a few minutes. This being the case, a fresh login did speed this up. If I logged out of the firefox account on my mobile device and logged in, I immediately saw the tabs on the about:sync-tabs page.
    There is no limit to how many can be synced. There is a number of tabs that make it to the queue for the next scheduled sync. The tabs are done by a time interval as far as I noticed in the experiment.
    The history is indeed merged with the history from other devices. It is merged the synced to each of the devices over an interval of time.

  • Accessing External HD from a networked computer

    I have a 500gb My Book external HD connected to my iMac. I have all of my computers enabled to share files as well. The problem is that I am unable to access this hard drive when I connect to the iMac via my macbook. The HD is marked as shared (I did this under "get info", but everytime I log out I must do it again when I log in), and I am an adminstrator on both computers. When I connect to the iMac via the macbook, I can see everything else on the computer except the external HD.
    Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this?
    Thanks!

    I have been searching for the answer to this same question. We have 2 macs on our network (both running 10.5.2), and I'd like to be able to access my email from either mac, maintaining a single mailbox.
    The solution I came up with is awkward, but does work, sort of. I set up the Mac that has the mailbox to share it's screen with the other machine. Then when I want to read mail on the other machine, I access my mailbox via screen sharing. You can't share the screen if the Mac is sleeping, so you either have to live with that or set up the Mac that has the mail to never sleep. Screen sharing is problematic if someone is using the other mac....
    I'd LOVE to hear a better solution.

  • How to access Time Machine from Another Computer?

    My daughter's iBook went down and is in the shop for repair and we want to access her Time Machine back up from another computer. Does anyone know if there is any way to do that?

    Time Machine won't do it as far as I can tell.
    However, you can access the backups through Finder.
    Warning - you *do not* want to do anything but copy out files - no deletes, moves, renames, no nuttin... Doing so will screw up the backups for any future Time Machine use!
    If the backups are on an external disk, then just navigate to the folder Backups.backupdb/yourMachineName there you will find each backup by date/time with the contents of the system at that time.
    If the backups are to a Time Capsule you need to mount the backups - the sparsebundle file - first then examine the folder Backups.backupdb/yourMachineName.
    Time Machine does have a 'Browse Other Time Machine Disks' option, but as far a I can exercise it it only looks at other disks with backups for the same machine.
    Again _only copy_ out files. Normally one should only use Time Machine, but here you can't - so be cautious.

  • My iphone was lost and I need to access my photos from my computer using icloud.  How do I do this?

    My iphone was either lost of stolen. I am able to access my contacts from icloud, but I don't know how to access my photos.  Is this possible?  if so, how?

    Hi deekswife,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    If you want to view Photo Stream photos on a Windows computer you will first need the iCloud Control Panel installed. Once installed, there will be an iCloud Photos location selected on your computer. Please review the following article as a reference.
    iCloud: Set up My Photo Stream
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13693
    On a Windows computer
    Install the iCloud Control Panel if it isn’t already installed on your computer.
    Open the iCloud Control Panel, then turn on Photos.My Photo Stream is set up by default. To turn it off, click Options, then turn off My Photo Stream.
    To change the iCloud Photos location on your computer, click Options. Click Change to choose a folder, then click OK.
    Click Apply.
    I hope this helps,

    i have recently upgraded my my iphone 3gs to ios 5.0.1 and now my computer doesnt recognise it as a camera. is there any way i can access my photos stored on my phone from my computer? i also dont have wifi so i cant use the icloud option.

    Hi Amy,
    I have exactly the same problem. Before the update to 5.0.1 whenever I connected my 3GS to my MacBook Image Capture used to open. Now nothing happens. When I opened Image Capture or iPhoto, either program recognized my device as the iPhone, but no pictures showed up on the screen.
    I emailed the photo's from the iPhone to myself and that worked OK.
    Have no idea why the computer doesn't recognize the iPhone as a camera anymore.
    You haven't had any answers on your question, so no solution yet.

  • Cant Access external shares from my admin account

    Hi,
    the title says it all.
    No matter if I try to connect via smb or afp. If I try to log in from the admin account to external afp or smb shares the login is refused cause of permissions.
    IF I do switch to a user other than the system admin account, the access to external shares works like a charm.
    In my case its an external NAS from Buffalo (Linkstation Duo).
    Also from other Lion machines ... no problem when trying to access that share.
    Im aware of the DHCAST128 changes but as you can read above it seems that this is not the issue.
    Any hints or suggentions?
    Thanks!

    Hi-
    You can use the account that you use daily, as SuperDuper will clone the entire drive, which includes all accounts, applications and data. SD will require an administrator password to run the cloning, but this can be done from any account.
