Accessing grayed out tracks

I opened a file in Logic Pro 7 that was originally created in Logic Express 6. The original file consisted of twenty recorded audio files, each on its own track in the Arrange window. In Logic Pro 7, only eight recorded tracks are accessible--the remaining ones are grayed-out in the channel selection menu in the Audio object Parameter bar (in the left side of the Arrange window).
The automation still shows up, and the audio files are still in the appropriate places for these grayed out tracks, but of course they won't play.
Any idea how to activate them? I've looked everywhere I know to look (including the manual and a third-party book), but I'm not seeing the solution to the problem.
Thanks,
Weldon

I found the problem--never mind.
At some point, I had set the prefs to a max number of 8 tracks (maybe it's the installation default--I don't recall). I changed this, but there was no change in track availability until changed from the M-Audio to the Built-in Audio driver, which resulted in the reappearance of the track assignments in the Environment window. I changed back to the M-Audio driver, and the proper settings were retained.

  • Grayed out tracks in Discover Weekly

I really like the new discover weekly list, but my most recent one has 3 grayed out tracks in it... how does that even happen?

    Hello:
I would suspect it has something to do with deluxe and bonus track content that is only available on certain releases, and/or there was a lincense change and/or expiration that happened with those tracks. I have gotten a few of those and when I went to the album page view the album was no longer available to me in my listening region, and when going to the artist page just the standard release was currently available.

  • Corrupt Files, Grayed Out Tracks, & Intermittent Behavior

So I took the plunge and payed my money. Sounded like such an excellent idea!  After 2 fun filled days (not) I am at a loss as to the value of this service.  I see the following behavior and after reading through these forums for hours I really can't say I've found the answers yet.  So here goes:
Every other time I start iTunes the files that are matched and available for download are grayed out.  So I do the routine "turn it off / turn back on".  Is this really the only answer?  Not really acceptable.
There are many albumns where most songs are matched but some are not.  I can't seem to find any way to recheck them.  They are all 128K or greater and play fine.  I've tried the convert them to AAC but no luck.  And there are far too many to do this manually for each song.  Major bummer.
Last but not least I have dozens of songs that say they matched, but when I try to download them I get an error saying the file is corrupted.  Clearly they referring to the file on the Match server, so... what heck am I supposed to do about it? Now I can't even delete those songs from the - they are stuck in my iTunes with a cloud download icon just ******* me off.
Near as I can tell there are 3 major features to Match.  Quality improvement, safe storage in the cloud, and replication across devices.  The product fails on quality (hit rate on matches is not even close advertised) and safe storage (files are corrupt so I am told make my own backups).   I can't speak to the 3rd feature personally because I am honestly afraid to turn on Match on any of my other devices based on the threads I read here and my experience so far.
So my last question to the community - exactly how do I turn this off and get my money back?  If these problems are not resovled within the next week or so I can't see any reason to continue the service.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
       Ed P.

One more update to summarize where I am:
Over the last week I have tried the following:
    - 2 different computers on 2 different networks (home & work)
    - same grayed out behavior on both, turning off match & back on corrects
    - antivirus off & firewall off
    - Computer 1 uploaded all songs, many did not match (even with the same album)
    - Computer 1 deleted an unmatched song from an album where others matched,
restored from my backup, and got it to match
    - Computer 1 deleted local copies and downloaded from Match - 100s failed
    - Computer 2 (empty library) download from Match, again 100s failed (different songs than computer 1)
    - On both computers kept repeatedly trying to download failed songs over several days,
      got most to download
    So my conclusion is:
    1) There is a bug with iTunes where songs in the cloud are grayed out about
half the time. This can be worked around by turning Match on and off again.
    2) The upload and download process is prone to file corruption. That's why:
         - random songs within an album match and don't match, but
deleting local & cloud copies, then attempting to rematch sometimes work
         - random songs fail to download from Match, but persistently trying
to re-download them (sometimes dozens of times) can work
    3) Neither problem is not related to user accounts, computers, or networks.
I am now engaged via email with a Senior Advisor from Apple support.  I have agreed to provide screen shots and more detail. I'm giving them a few days to either fix the problem or at least acknowledge they have a problem and are working on it.  If they do not he as offered to cancel my subscription.
I will post to this thread and let you all know the conclusion.

  • Some audiobook tracks grayed out in audiobook section

I have imported two different audiobooks into iTunes.
I am using itunes 10.3.6 on a macbook pro, mountain lion osx.  I do have itunes match, and I turned off match to import the audiobooks so that I could go in and change the "media type" to audiobook.  However, now some of the tracks (not all) are grayed out and inaccessable on my iphone.  When trying to play the audiobook it just skips the tracks that are gray and moves on to the next black track.  I've tried resyncing and it doesn't help.  What did I do wrong?

Without more details, it's hard to say what has gone wrong. How did you import those audiobooks? What format? Were they already in iTunes when you turned ON iTunes Match? Did they get uploaded? Etc. Lots of details required to troubleshoot this, you might consider taking your computer into the Genius Bar for help.
If I was going to guess, it sounds like some of your audiobook tracks were elegible for uploading to iTunes Match, which removes them from consideration for being sync'ed directly via iTunes. When you turned off iTunes Match, you lost access to them.
Go in and set the metadata for all of the audiobook's tracks using the File > Get Info panel, making sure you're setting (at least) both the Album (book title) to the right title, and the Other > Media Kind to "Audiobooks". Then go to the Books sync settings tab, and make sure the book is selected to sync in the Audiobooks section (scroll down to find it).

  • I am showing 9 tabs open and I cannot access other websites (they are grayed out when I clock on them).  How do I close tabs?

I was working on calendar and opened too many tabs.  I am showing 9 tabs open and it affects other sebsites I am now trying to access.  The webpage is grayed out and non-accessible.  I do not need all the tabs.  How do I close them?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I am the administrator of my computer with other family members having accts. One member is grayed out and no one can access that acct.  Why and what do I do about it?

I am the administrator of my iMac with other family members having accts.

I had put parental controls on it but now I cannot access it or change anything.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I downloaded iTunes to a new computer and authorized that computer but my music is grayed out and will not play, how do I get access to my music?

I installed iTunes to a new computer and authorized that computer but my music is grayed out.  How do I get access to my music?

Is there a way to change that?
You can easily set up the iPod to automatically sync to your current iTunes library (or just do a Restore), but that will replace the iPod's existing content with content from your current iTunes library (erasing the iPod).  If your old computer was "retired" gracefully and you were able to transfer its complete iTunes user data to your new computer, there is no problem because all of the songs on the iPod now are already in your current iTunes library.  However, if there are songs on the iPod that are not in your current iTunes library, those songs will be lost.  That may be a problem...
If you want to preserve what is on the iPod, you can try setting the iPod to Manually manage music and videos.  I believe you can do that from an iTunes library that is not the iPod's currently associated library.  Select the iPod in iTunes, so that you see its Summary settings screen.  Check the box for Manually manage music and videos.  (If iTunes puts up any warning about erasing or replacing the iPod's existing content, Revert the change and cancel out.)  Click Apply.  The iPod is no longer set to automatically sync.  But you can add new content manually to what is already on the iPod.  And the songs should not be grayed out.
However, you cannot use iTunes to transfer songs on the iPod to your current iTunes library (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your computer's iTunes library, you should eventually "offload" those song files because your iPod can easily break, become corrupted, or get lost.  iTunes syncs content in one direction only (from computer to iPod), but there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like iPod "transfer," you should get some links, including a CNET article on the topic.
Once all of your songs are "consolidated" in your current iTunes library, you can set up the iPod for automatic syncing to that library.

out for each item. What is the problem? I am the administrator of this computer. Help offers no further help about why
    items cannot be exported.
(Also, why is text in this box offscreen when left justified?)

    Good evening from Hamburg,
sadly, "some keychain items" seems to be the understatement of the year. I have not found any exportable items yet. And I have no idea why it should be impossible to export a simple Internet password, e.g., or a secure note.
In other words: "Some keychain items can not be exported." – I already read that in the help text. So please elaborate. Which ones cannot be exported (for example). What are possible reasons? Is there anything I can do about the "non-exportability" of an item? And which ones actually can be exported (for example)?

In trying to edit a track - I want to "Delete and Move" the track to automatically fill the area that I deleted - However, after selecting a section to delete - the "Delete and Move" option is grayed out. How do I fix this?

Thank you for your attempt to help me. I appreciate that.
I think I figured out how to fix it-
I found that if I only delete a small amount at the beginning and at the end of the section that I want to remove - and then highlight that section - Then (and only then) does the "Delete and Move" function work to remove the unwanted section and automatically close the gap between the surrounding sections. I was trying to select a whole section and could only delete it - and then manually move it.
    Problem solved.

  • Get title tracks grayed out....

Have made switch from Windows to Mac. I had my I-Tunes library on an external hard drive. I copied my library over but it did not copy most of the album art & none of the title tracks are there. Was able to get the album art. I went up to "Advanced" & went to "Get Title Tracks" but it is grayed out. Does anybody have any ideas how to get the title tracks? Have I-Tunes 8.1 installed.

Problem resolved! Chalk it up to not looking hard enough. With being completely new to Mac, was a little nervous about a couple of things. The track names did transfer. The "get track names" being grayed out apparently is tied to how you have your view set. Above where you can set how I-tunes is displayed, there are 3 options. When I had just the page displayed where the album art was, I was able to download the cover art but when I went to get the title track names, it was grayed out. But when I changed the view to where the library contents could be viewed as sort of a spread sheet, the title track names were there. I went up to advanced and the "get title track names" was no longer grayed out. I switched the view back and the "get title track names was grayed out".
    Many thanks for your help!!!

  • "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated.

I have one big wav file of segued tracks as a mixdown and inserted CD markers where I want marked tracks. "Export audio of selected range markers to separate files" icon is grayed out in Markers window. Tracks show start times but no end times, yet duration is calculated. Why can't I export these marked portions as separate files?

the markers durations need to be configured, there is an easy way to do this using your existing markers.  click the start time of marker 2, this should change to edit mode to type in a new number, just copy the numbers cmd/ctrl+c. then click the end time of marker 1 and paste, cmd/ctrl+v.  now repeat for the rest of the markers, and on the last one enter a value for the end time or click and drag on the duration to manually extend it. once all the markers have a duration, the button should be active to export.

  • "Access Control - Do Not Inherit" Grayed out when setting up a backup on Server 2008 R2 when trying to use remote NAS

    I see one response here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c99eead0-e2fc-4c83-8cb2-959d03512667/server-2008-r2-dc-backup-greys-out-do-not-inherit-option-for-file-share-backup
But it makes no sense to me. Running that command doesn't do anything.
How do I make the box stop graying out when setting up a backup with the GUI interface? This should be really simple I would think and for some reason the backup utility is graying out the "Do Not Inherit" option so I can backup to the NAS
device that has access control enabled in order to backup to the NAS.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
From this article, it mentioned that it is by design that we cannot choose "do not inherit" in backup schedule when backup target is a remote shared folder.
    Checklist: Schedule Automatic Backups
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732540.aspx
If you use a remote shared folder, make sure that the folder is available, that you have write access to the folder, and that you are a member of the Administrators group or Backup Operators group on the computer hosting the folder. Each time you create
a backup, it will overwrite the older backups so that you will only have one backup at a time.
The backup will inherit the access control list (ACL) permissions of the folder.
For the account it required, as mentioned above, it should be "a member of Admin group or Backup Operators group, and it should have write permission on target folder".
Also map a network folder as a drive will not help show the mapped drive letter in backup destination. It is still a remote shared folder.

  • How can I access advanced drop downs in IMovie if they are grayed out

I'm trying to insert a jpg over a portion of my video. Nothing I've tried has worked. A video indicates that I can do this using the advanced options.  The video indicates how to go through Preferences to gain access to the advanced option but the video preferences are not the same as my preferences so I'm back to square one. How do I get access to the advanced options that are grayed out in my iMovie.
I'm using IMovie HD 6. Thx

Depending on where you have the mouse clicked, you might see the menus change. So click the mouse down into the movie timeline at the bottom of the screen itself and you might see the Extract Audio option become available under the Advanced Menu for instance.

  • Accessibility 508 issue in Acrobat; accessibility controls grayed out

Hi - I have to check PDF's in two different versions of Acrobat.  On my one computer, the accessbility functions work great.  Then when I went over to my other office on my laptop, I tried checking the accessbility and all of the same controls on the other computer were grayed out.  I'm pretty puzzled by this so I'm not sure if the laptop computer has some kind of persmissions blockage (I do this work for a government agency) or what.
Below is a side by side screenshot of the two computers' versions of Acrobat
Can someone tell me why those controls are grayed out and what I need to do to turn them on?  Thanks.

Hi - thank you for your reply.  One strange thing about this situation is on both of these computers, the Abrobat icon says "Pro" for both of them.  That's why I was so puzzled about this because although they appear to be version X and XI, they both said Pro but only one allows me to do accessibility.  Strange.
