Accessing iCal from .mac account

I've been able to publish my iCal without trouble, but I'm wondering if I can access and edit my calendar from a different (and PC) computer, while in my .mac account? Or, am I only able to edit it while in the iCal application?
Also, am I able to view my calendar from my .mac page, without publishing it for the public? I'd like to look at it from work... but don't need/want my friends viewing it!

See this thread: Amy Vandawalker, "ical and multiple computers", 03:31pm Aug 29, 2005 CDT
The short answer is no; you can't edit iCal calendars from a PC. You need a .Mac account and Macs to edit.
Seems like everyone has the same problem.
As far as private publishing, .Mac is not private as far as publishing Calendars go (though someone would have to know or guess you .mac name and calendar name to get to it).
Alternatively you can use iCalX: http://www.icalx.com/
It apparently has password protection.

Can I access music from multiple accounts on one cpu

    Here's one option: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12366
But frankly you'd be better off creating unique user accounts on the computer and having seperate iTunes libraries for each user as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495

  • Access iCal on .mac

How can I access my iCal on .mac while on the road?

You cannot, ical calendars do not sync as address book contacts or bookmarks and as a result be viewed on the web interface of your .mac account.
You can however publish your ical calendar(s) via .mac and view them on the web by browsing the url with which they are published from any browser. these published calendars will be read only though. to publish an ical calendar, go to ical>calendar>publish...
The only real syncing of ical calendars via .mac happens when you have two macs that both sync with your .mac account, and as a result of the sync both have the same ical data.
    hope this helps

  • Changing from ".Mac" account in Mail to "IMAP"

When I orginally set up my primary Mail account on my laptop it was ".Mac", rather than IMAP or POP. I'm finding I can't fully take advantage of the Alias features. Another posting here explains that if I delete the existing ".Mac" account and build a new one as IMAP, I'd then be able to create alias email addresses. In the present configuration I can "create them", but they don't appear as available in the pull down menu when I send mail. I'm a bit reluctant to delete my present .Mac account in Mail because I get a warning that all my mail will go away if I delete that account. To complicate matters, I sometimes work on my iMac at home, and that one's set up just the same as a ".Mac" account. Presumably I'd have to change that one too? Or is there some way I can make setting up the alias addresses work while keeping my primary account as a .Mac account? Obviously I'm not relating conceptually to what's going on here!

I access my .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Tiger Mail and I use/access a single .Mac alias address at a time. I have no problems with the alias address being available as an address to choose from via the Accounts selection when composing a message.
Do you access more than one alias address at a time?
Does it make any difference when selecting Edit Email Aliases under the Email Address field available under the Account Information tab for the account preferences?
Since a .Mac account is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way, when deleting the account in Mail, no messages available at the server in the account's Inbox or any other server stored messages will be affected when deleting the account and re-creating it as an IMAP type account.
What you do lose when deleting an account in Mail are any locally stored mailboxes/messages for the account such as Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk if these messages are not stored on the server.
If you don't store Sent messages on the server, before deleting the account you need to do the following:
Create/utilize an "On My Mac" location mailbox which is stored on the hard drive and not associated with any account. Transfer the account's Sent messages from the locally stored Sent mailbox for the account to the user created "On My Mac" location mailbox.
Delete and re-create the account in Mail as an IMAP type account. All server stored messages in the account's Inbox mailbox will be available again in the account's Inbox mailbox and after sending a message with the newly created IMAP account which will create a new Sent mailbox for the account, you can transfer the old sent messages from the "On My Mac" location mailbox to the new Sent mailbox for the account so no messages will be lost.

  • Can't see iCal in .mac account

I am brand new to Mac and apologize if this is dense of me. . . .I can't find my iCal in my .mac account. I've published it, synchronized everything and still can't see it. Is there a special place I should look or something else I need to do? Also - how do I change the color of an event in my calendar?
    Thanks! Jen

    Pat,
I tried the instructions you gave by pressing on 'command and fn and 1 and all it does is change the view to the 'day' view (vs week and/or month).
My reply was based on the fact that the Original Poster had a MacBook.
Your hardware profile lists "iMac desktop," which I presume refers to one of the most recent 20' or 24" iMac's.
I was able to see and utilize the info button previously, however since the most recent updates to my mac software the button is no longer there.
The iCal window no longer contains an Info button.
If you have created an event in the iCal window, you should be able to select either (⌘I), or (⌘E) to gain access to the Info/Edit bubble.
When I open an event and I want to set an alarm, the background of the field is black.
If the Info/Edit bubble displays no text fields, that is not normal behavior. In that case I would recommend that you attempt to refresh the com.apple.iCal.plist file.
Quit iCal and find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Drag the file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart and check iCal for normal behavior.
I would also recommend that you update your software specifications in "My Settings." If you have not already done so, you should also install the OS X 10.5.2 Update.
    Good Luck.

  • Keeping emails in mail but deleting them from .mac account?

My mobile phone wants to download the entire .mac mailbox whenever I check my mail - is the answer then to empty the .mac mailbox everyday? I once did this and lost all the emails in Mail on my computer. I'd like to keep them on the computer, but is this possible?

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
Exactly how you use your Powerbook and phone is the key to arriving at the best way to do this. If you do not have your Mac connected at all times, or at least when needing to use the phone to check email, then you can set up your .mac account as a POP account, rather than .mac, and then remove messages from the server whenever you first download them onto your computer.
A .mac account, like an IMAP account (it really is just an IMAP account) has its Inbox, and usually its Sent mailbox residing on the server, whereas a POP account has the Inbox, Sent, etc residing on your hard drive. While you can leave messages on the server, when using POP access, so as to download to other computers, the original concept of POP was to download and remove.
The Mail Application has all the needed selections for instructing the server to keep or remove messages after download, when the account is set up as POP.
The other choice is to create a New Mailbox, which will be on your Mac, and then move messages from the .mac Inbox to this new mailbox, and thus remove them from the Inbox, which should take them off the server.
    More info, please.

  • Migrating from Entourage and now can't send mail except from  Mac account

I've just started using Mail after using Entourage for many years and I must say it's been a frustrating start (having separate applications for Mail, Address Book and Calendar is a pita so far). But most importantly I can't get Mail to allow me to send mail from any account other than from my .Mac account (no problems receiving mail). I'm using the same outgoing server settings as in Entourage but no joy - I get an error message saying it can't use the outgoing server. I have no problems with this in Entourage. For example, from Entourage I can send mail using my BT Internet account or my Bulldog Home account using the following outgoing mail server settings:
    SMTP SERVER: mail.bulldoghome.com
    ACCOUNT ID: [email protected]
    PASSWORD: my email password
Also, how do I access my hotmail?

Ok here's another one. When I delete a mail retrieved from a non Mac mail account (eg my BT Internet account) and empty my Trash in Mail it does not delete the email off the (BT Internet) server. I have not checked "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" so that I can access the email from multiple locations. But when I do delete it I obviously want it removed from the server.

  • Email Alarms from .Mac account....not from home?

Is there any way to have the .mac account email a chosen address directly from .mac and not from my home computer. For example: I'm at work, my home computer is off, and I would like to have an alarm sent to my work address sometime during my work day. So far I can only see that it emails from the home "Mail" application.
Any ideas to get this to work?

The computer that sends the mail HAS to be turned on with an ACTIVE Internet connection. The .mac account has nothing to do with alerts. iCal is the one managing alerts using your user account address (the address specified in AddressBook under your name) and it tells Mail what to send and to whom.
Another way to achieve what you want without leaving your home computer on:
    1. AT HOME: Add your work address under your user name in AddressBook.
    2. AT HOME: Make sure iCal is using your work email address (when you have more than one address, arrows appear to allow you to chose).
    3. HOME & WORK: Sync your computers using iSync (before leaving home and when you get at work).
    4. AT WORK: you can verify in iCal if the alert has been added.
    Have fun!

  • Archiving in Mailboxes from .Mac account

    Hi,
I have a large amount of messages sent from my .Mac account, (not using .Mac Mail).
I have recently created a series of mailboxes (stored "On my Mac") in .Mac Mail so I can archive both my incoming and outgoing mails for certain clients and projects without clogging up my .Mac account. But I can't seem to transfer the Sent messages sent in the .Mac account to these mailboxes, as they are not able to be viewed in .Mac in the new version. Any hints anyone?
(I have now started using .Mac Mail for sending mail but have about 300 old Sent emails to archive).

  • Emails vanish from .mac account when deleting them from iphone!

The problem we are having is that on my wifes minimac when she deletes emails on her iphone they vanish from her desktop .mac mail programme.. not good!
But.... my email on my G5 .mac mail programme account is set to .Mac IMAP and my emails that come into my iphone dont get deleted from my desktop .mac mail programme.
How can i set up her account to not delete the mails from her minimac mail account?
Her email is an additional account - whereas my account is the master account!
    can anyone help?

If you are accessing the account as an IMAP account with the email client on your computer as well as with the iPhone's email client, all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized automatically between the email clients used to access the account. This cannot be changed. If you delete a message from the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's email client, the message will no longer be available in the account's Inbox mailbox when checking the account with your computer's email client and vice-versa.
This is the nature of an IMAP account which cannot be changed.
If this is not the same for your account, this indicates you are accessing the account as a POP account with one or both email clients used to access the account.

  • Can you transfer your ICal from Mac Pro to your IPhone

I am just curious if you can transfer your ICal from a Mac Pro Book to you IPhone before I get my IPhone.

iCal is supported on a Mac when you sync contact info to your phone.
    Info Pane
The Info pane lets you configure the sync settings for your contacts, calendars, email accounts, and web browser.
                                        Contacts
Sync contacts with applications such as Mac OS X Address Book, Yahoo! Address Book, and Google Contacts on a Mac, or with Yahoo! Address Book, Google Contacts, Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), Windows Contacts (Vista and Windows 7), or Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync contacts with multiple applications. On a PC, you can sync contacts with one application at a time.)
If you sync with Yahoo! Address Book, you only need to click Configure to enter your new login information when you change your Yahoo! ID or password after you’ve set up syncing.

  • Accessing purchases from AIM account/removing HomeShare

I have a number of songs I purchased with an AIM account a few years ago. I am able to play them on my PC, but when I backed up my library to disk and added it to my MacBook, those songs will not play. When I attempt to play one of those songs, I am prompted to sign into the AIM account I used to purchase the songs. When I enter the password, it tells me that account is associated with my AppleID account. When I enter that password, it tells me that I am not authorized to play the song. Is there any way to transfer those purchases to my AppleID so that I can access them on my MacBook? I have HomeSharing turned on both the PC and Mac. Also, I currently have 2 computers but a third computer was authorized for HomeSharing. Is there any way to remove a computer from HomeSharing if you no longer have access to it? Thank you in advance for any advice.

    Hi jnick303,
Welcome to the Best Buy forum!
I should have no problem updating the information associated with your father's My Best Buy account; however, I will need that request to come from him being his name is on the actual account.  With that being said, the transferring of a purchase from one account to another is going to be a little bit trickier and may not even be an option at this point.  I would like to go over your account in a bit more detail and see what I can do to help, so I will be sending you a private message.  To check your private messages, you will want to login to the forum and click on the yellow envelope icon at the top of the page.

  • Cannot send mail from .mac account in Entourage

I am a new mac user so my troubleshooting skills are very weak. Until about one week ago, i was able to send mail from both my hotmail account and my .mac account. Now, i get this error (just on my .mac account):
An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.
i read through much of the support articles, but did not find my specific error. can anyone help??

it may be that your server (internet provider) has just started blocking outgoing mails not authenticated by them.
Go to your account set up...
and fill in the following details.
    SMTP SERVER: smtp.mac.com
then click on advanced sending otions...
click on override default SMTP port... type 587
click on SMTP servber requires authentication...
use same setting as receiving mail server.

  • Can not send email from .mac account from the iPhone

I'm having problems sending email from my iPhone from my .Mac Account and says the outgoing server timed out. Any Suggestions?

This error message indicates you are not using the correct server port for .Mac's SMTP server.
Did you transfer the account settings from your Mac to the iPhone automatically via the iTunes sync process or did you manually create your .Mac account on the iPhone?
If the former, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences at the SMTP Server selection, select the Server Settings button below for .Mac's SMTP server.
If 25 is available in the Server Port field, enter 587 in place of 25 and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting and then re-sync your iPhone making sure your .Mac account is selected for account settings to be transferred to the iPhone.

  • Cannot receive mail from .Mac account on port 143

I use my laptop at work. I used to have a 12" Powerbook G4 running OS X 10.4.3. I had no problem receiving mail from my .Mac account. Now, and all of a sudden, I can no longer receive my .Mac mail using the Mail app. The error I get is:
The server "mail.mac.com" refused to allow a connection on port 143.
I called AppleCare about this issue last night and they told me to perform the following steps:
    1. Choose .Mac in System Preferences and delete my username and password from the Account tab.
    2. Move com.apple.mail.plist and the Mail folder from my ~/Library folder to the desktop.
    3. Restart the Mail app and re-import the Mail folder from the desktop. I was told not to directly copy the Mail folder from the desktop into the ~/Library folder.
    4. Go back into .Mac in System Preferences and re-enter my account information.
According to AppleCare, things should now work. But there's a little problem with this "solution." I spoke with my network admin and he told me that incoming traffic on port 143 is blocked. That being the case, I fail to see how any of the above steps will solve my problem. It seems nothing more than an issue of trying to get my network admin to open port 143 and he seems reluctant to do that.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I've solved this problem. Well, actually, I didn't do anything other than:
    1) Rebooting my computer, then...
    2) Following the instructions at the top of the following thread to re-create my email accounts (I had two):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1598309#1598309
Not sure what this fixed, and how I got into this issue in the first place.
I had four or five days worth of email to come in... it took...
    ...a...
    ...long...
    ...time...
But its looking like its working.
A few things I tried, and although they didn't have an immediate effect to fix the connection refused problem, they might have kicked something to start something working again:
    1) Created a new 'test' user on the system, restarted, logged in as that user, and started Mail.app setting it up with .Mac settings (it was after this everything worked)
    2) Changed SSL ports in the accounts settings (no difference)
    3) Turned firewall on and off (no difference)
    4) Attempted to use Thunderbird to read .Mac email as IMAP mailbox (didn't work)
Hope this rather obvious help helps anyone else
