Accessing Individual Photos for Web Publishing

I just bought my first Mac and love iPhoto, except that when I try to access photos to publish to Facebook or upload photos directly to my blog, the only thing that shows up when I browse to Photos is 'iPhoto Library.'
I want to be able to access individual photos to upload, instead of having to create a new event when I want to upload 1 or two pictures. It seems like an unnecessary extra step. Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Thanks!

  • Why does "prepare for web publishing" turn text into an image?

I have to prepare some supplied print PDFs for use on the web. I used to use "Reduce file size."
With the new Acrobat, I use "prepare for web publishing". But when I use "prepare for web publishing", all the vector text in my document gets turned into a low-res image.
Why would this be the case, and please tell me I can turn it off?
    Thank you!

I'm just guessing here but could it be that the text is not a typical web-safe font? If not, I could see why it does that to preserve the appearance of the document for those that don't have the proper fonts installed.

  • Accessing individual photos through Harddrive window - Can only see library

When I open my HD and click on Pictures, it lists my IPhoto Library and when I click on it, it just automatically opens IPhoto and displays them. Is there a way to change this so I see the photo titles, etc. I want to be able to upload individual photos to emails and websites. Any help would be great. Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You're using iPhoto 7 (part of iLife 08) right?
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.

  • Adding Descriptions to Individual Photos in Web Gallery

I'm looking for an easy (or easier, considering my current method) way of creating a web gallery in lightroom that gives me the ability to add descriptions of individual photos.
What I've been doing thus far is limiting myself to only the galleries which separate the 'large' pictures in their own folder from the 'small' or 'thumb' photos. The small or thumb photos are the ones used for navigation. When one is selected, the large photo is displayed. I have been generating the galleries with Lightroom, opening up the Large directory, then opening every single large picture in Photoshop. Then I extend the canvas in the same direction for each photo, and write the description next to the photo and save it. That way, when you open the gallery, the thumbnails all look as they normally would, but when you click on them you're greeted with a large picture and a description.
This process is long, boring, and painstakingly annoying. I have done this for approximately 200 pictures thus far. The end result looks just fine, but my research into having Lightroom let me add visible descriptions has turned up nothing. Is there a template, engine, or anything else that will allow me to display pictures with some text next to it?

Haven't you looked at the Image Info panel in Web? You enter captions in Library, in its Metadata panel, and then tell Web to display them.

  • How to resize photos for web pages

Can photos be resized within iPhoto to be used on a web site?  If not what is the best program to do this to keep good quality photos but have a fast reloading time.

I need to edit photos for print and then create a second version for the web.
You can resize photos as you export from iPhoto - use a custom size and set what you need and upload the exported photos
This is how you do that - you can not "resize" within iPhoto - you resize (and make another copy) when you export.
As to your saving photos form PS into the iPhoto library and wondering why it does not work - it is becaus you must NEVER make any changes of any sor tto the structure or content of the iPhoto library using any program other than iPhoto - saving a photo into the iPhoto libray is not supported and will not work - you set PS as the external editor and when you finish editing you save and iPhoto handles the new image

  • Accessing individual photos in slideshow?

Hi.  I created an iPhoto slideshow, and I want to copy the photos included in the slideshow into a folder, so that I can access the specific set as individual photos, rather than as the slideshow. Is this possible?

You can select the photos in the slide tray at the top and use the FFile ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option to exoprt them to the Desktop.
Set the Kind = Original to get the original file that was imported into the library.

    Hello All,

Privelleges are the same. The folders have the same rights too.
This is for OBIEE 10.1.3.4 with BI Publisher of the same version, running on a solaris box.

  • Help with using photos for web

I would like to use some photos I have stored in iphoto library, but I need to reduce them. Reading the help guide, it is indicate to export to web page. But in that case it opens automatically a new web page. How can I export to a page that I have already created?
Moreover what I do not understand is how can I reduce the dimension of the photo without changing the quality? This can be done in iphoto with export?
I am a little bit confused...
    thanks for help

Yep you have answered your own question.
Choose export, file export and click the scale images option, and original options (assuming they are already jpegs).
(As you say exporting as webpage creates the page for you but can create images in two sizes (thumnails and main) which can be helpful. The downside the that the filenames for the images as numeric. 1.jpg, 2.jpg etc.)
While a longer process and with no direct control over file size and quality I prefer the file export option as above. It preserves filenames and quality is fine.
and do choose 'original' as you should avoid re-saving a jpeg as a jpeg (that causes a quality reduction)
You will need to manually bring the images into your web pages (save the exported images into your site folder and bring each one into your page individually) unless you are very clever with filenaming!
    Hope this helps.

  • Adding captions to photos for web gallery

I'm creating a web gallery for my web page and I'd like to add a caption to each photo and not show the file name.  I've got Bridge CS4 3.0.0.464 and would like to use either the 'Filmstrip' template.
Can't figure out how to add captions.

The only way I found to do it was to apply the Caption Maker script from Russell Brown before creating the gallery.
This puts a caption on each picture.

That is very strange as I had tried turning that on before and nothing had happened.
Now it has. Maybe when I closed my machine down it somehow triggered it back if there was a glitch.
thank you Barbara, you have made me happy again.
I am not sure I need to strip the exif if I am putting them up in my Picasa album but I will try one to see what , if any effect it has on the picture in the gallery.
You have helped me in the past under a different name BUt I couldn't seem to find my login details so I started again. :-)

  • Resizing photos for web

I had some professional photos taken recently, each of which is approx 3.5MB. Is there a way to decrease the size so that a website will be able to accept them?

If the photos are in iPhoto, select them, go to the menu and choose export. Set the size in the export window. Export to a new folder on your desktop. Use the folder for uploading to the web.
You can also open them in preview and export them in the size you want.

  • Why Can't I Access Old Photos for Wallpaper Anymore?

Because of the new switch in photo organization on ios8 I can't access photos that are on my phone to set wallpapers. The photos exist, just not in any photo album as only "Recently Added" appear. When I go into the Photos app I can access them via Photos (and all the dumb "collections" and "moments" subgroups) instead of Albums, but when setting Wallpaper via the Settings menu, you're only given options to choose photos on your phone that are in the newly created albums instead of having access to all that exist. This is beyond stupid. I'm not looking for community help as much as saying how stupid this is and that NOBODY had a problem with the good old Camera Roll. What stupid regressive designing.

I'd imagine you're trying to zoom out on a photo. I think there's a problem with scaling if the dimensions of the photo are not fit to wallpaper size.
The workaround is in the photo app itself, select the photo you wish to use. Resize it to what you want the wallpaper to look like. Take a screenshot (press the home button and sleep button at the same time).
Set the screenshot as wallpaper. That should fit nicely.

  • Resize photo for web

My photo in iPhoto are more than 2000x2000 pixels, 8-10 MB each. Whehter iPhoto Gallary or iWeb auto resize them? No point for me to have large files on web. And I need thousands online.

If you don't check the option to allow users to download files, then only 800x600 sized photos are uploaded to .Mac. If you are allowing downloads, the photos are limited to roughly 6MP (I can't narrow down the exact size) when uploaded. If neither option works for you, you might have to export them. I don't know what size iWeb uses.
If your photos are 8-10MB each I'm assuming they're RAW format. RAW always gets converted to JPG so even before being shrunk to within 6MP, they'll be 1-3MB JPG's. Hope this helps.
