Accessing Mac HD from Windows through Parallels

Hi ALl,
I installed Parallels in my macbook and choose a 'NTFS format option' as Parallels recommended it. Once I go into Windows I cannot access Mac HD/files in it.
Could any body help me in finding a way to access Mac OS X files from Windows and also vice versa.
Thanks
Sandeep

I suggest you head toward the Parallels forums found at http://forums.parallels.com

  • Can no longer access Mac HDD from Windows XP Installation

Hello, I'm pretty new to Macs, and am running into a problem.
I'm in the middle of configuring Windows XP to my liking, and got to the part where I typically move the locations of the My Documents, My Pictures, etc. to their respective locations on the Mac hard drive (that way I store all files in the same place, and I can boot between OSX and XP without having to move files).  Anyway, I rebooted to finish installing unrelated software, and my Mac HDD will no longer "mount" if that term applies in XP.  It shows up in disk management as an unknown partition.  I KNOW 100% positively that I accessed it before the reboot.  I don't see how a program for rotating the screen on my external monitor (iRotate) could do this, and the only other things isntalled right now are Bootcamp's drivers and Firefox.  It's a clean, up to date XP installation.
    Any help appreciated!
    Specs:
    Intel iMac
    Core i3 550, 3.2 GHz
    4 GB DDR3 (2.99 accessible in XP)
    1 TB Western Digital HDD
Windows XP Professional SP3, fully updated

    This is the error:
    "Windows cannot access \\machine\sharedfolder,
    error code 0x80004005, unspecified error"
I can not remove network cards because servers are hosted in Azure. So when I remove network card server becomes unreachable.

  • Suddenly can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail

Suddenly, I can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail (Version 2.1.1 (752.3)).
For quite a few years I have been using Apple Mail to access my .mac email. As of last Friday, Mail stopped working. Nothing has changed (accept for the installation of the latest OS X security upgrade - SecUpd2006-008Univ.pkg).
I can still access my .mac mail through the .mac web browser and I can still access it through SnapperMail on my Palm Treo 680. But, when I open Apple Mail on my MacBook, it does not do anything, just sits there. When I open the Activity Viewer window, 3 activities are going on:
    1. Opening Mailbox
    2. Synchronizing with Server (Connecting to...)
    3. Synchronizing with Server (Synchronizing with...)
After a few minutes, the error triangle appears next to the Inbox and .Mac logos on the left hand panel.
I have tried Apple Mail from several locations (different ISP / WiFi / LAN) over several days but get the same problem.
Does anyone have ideas for a solution?
    Regards
    Peter

Let’s first make sure that the update is installed properly, and post back with your observations when done.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the update that appears to not have been installed properly. You may also need to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Is it possible to resize a mac partition from windows?

Here's what's going on. I originally wanted to use Disk Utility to do this, which is clearly the easy way to do things, but my computer is so slow that Disk Utility immediately becomes unresponsive upon wanting to resize -any- partition. The windows side works fine though, it isn't slow as crap. Is there a way to resize the mac partition from windows (HFS+)? Any possible way? Even crazy ones? I'm open to suggestions.
Oh yeah, and in case you want to know...my Mac Mini just randomly started getting really, really slow, so slow in fact, that now my old iMac from 1999 is faster (it doesn't even have ANY RAM!). I tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, multiple times, booting into safe mode takes forever, but I left it for awhile and it finished. Almost worked, the finder showed up quicker than usual, but then it reverted back to it's slow self again once I opened Disk Utility. I tried booting into single user mode and typing /sbin/fsck -fy, and it's so slow, that it couldn't even do that! It got stuck at checking libraries or something, for hours, and i could type things in still, but it wouldn't recognize any commands (ie fsk - fy). I also cannot replace the RAM because it is an older mac mini and those things are hard as f*** to repair, trust me, i've tried. The weirdest part of all of this has to be that this is the computer that we DON'T download many apps onto, so it most likely isn't bloatware, adware, a virus or something else. We download most stuff to our MacBook, and go to the sketchy websites on it as well (it really should be the other way around, the mac mini would be around 3x less expensive to replace, it's just that it's the family computer). And that's always slow, but this surpassed it (btw, the laptop is a year or so older). I do not have the installation disk.
Can someone help? Mainly about the first thing...please. The second thing is hopeless, I will need to get a new computer pretty soon, and these macs don't last as long as they used to I guess, we'd most likely get a quality Windows PC to replace it, this has been a disappointment. I'm just trying to get a little more life out of it with Linux, maybe a year or two. That's what i've done with my old iMac. Runs GREAT. Especially for a 13 year old computer. The thing is, my folks don't want me to completely eliminate the mac partition even though it's virtually unusuable.

I'm not really understanding what the end goal was. But in case anyone else comes across the thread, neither the built-in Windows volume resizing utility nor any 3rd party Windows resizing utility should be used to resize either the Windows partition or the Mac OS partition. Invariably they all manipulate the NTFS volume in such a way that the secondary GPT is corrupt, the primary GPT is rendered invalid, and only correctly alter the MBR. It's a recipe for data loss.
Conversely, while Disk Utility can resize a Mac OS volume, it cannot resize an NTFS volume. With Lion and Mountain Lion, upon using Boot Camp Assistant there are already four partitions: EFI System, Mac OS, Recovery HD, and Windows. There is no more room for a fifth partition in the MBR partition scheme, and if you try to add one, Disk Utility will apparently let you and render Windows unbootable (because Disk Utility adds the fifth partition to the GPT, but can't add it to the MBR, and instead removes the hybrid MBR needed for Windows support and replaces it with a PMBR.)
So in effect this is not to be done except with 3rd party utilities.

  • How to access using VNC from Windows XP to Mac G5 (OsX 10.4)

Hi, I read all the technical documentation about the compatibility to open from a Mac Machine a Windows Server using the VNC.
My problem is different. I have a Mac Server, and I want to see it using my Windows Laptop.
Do you think is it possible? What is the software I can use to obtain the full control how the Apple Remote Desktop?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Salvatore

"Do you think is it possible?"
    Yes
"What is the software I can use to obtain the full control"
Turn on VNC access in the Remote Desktop section of the Sharing System Preferences, then use any Windows VNC client.

  • Access to Mac HD from Windows

Can I access files on the Mac OS partition from Windows via Bootcamp?
I would like to have all of my files in one location.

Hi folks - and a special nod of gratitude to Fortuny,
I didn't mean to "hi-jack" this thread, so my apologies to MtnMac2.
But to the point of info for all - I loaded the two utes suggested by Fortuny - and WOW! without a hitch nor hiccup, it worked beautifully. I can read/write to ALL of my BootCamp partition while booted in MacOS 10.5.6. Very slick.
I spent nearly a half an hour dragging all of the files from my VMware directory into the new BootCamp "My Documents" and further into sub-directories. I was able to rename files IN THAT PC directory, create folders, sub-folders, etc., all while booted in Leopard.
What I haven't done yet is see what the Mac side looks like while booted in XP-Pro - I suspect it will be the same trouble-free ease of use. In fact, I now know more about this than the local "Genius" at the bar at one of my neighborhood Apple Stores. (shocker...)
And the best part? These utilities are FREE. While I don't doubt the functionality of Hatter's suggestion (he's ALWAYS spot on!!) - this was the immediate path of least financial resistance.
Thanks again Fortuny - and I'll follow-up IF and only if I hit trouble from within XP-Pro - just to share the experience with this wonderful community of users and experts!
    Peace,
    Mike P

  • Migrating to Mac Pro from Windows intensive GIS modelling only in WinXP..

    Hi all,
I have some cash for a new workstation and have been pondering moving to a Mac as I am frustrated with Windows for som many reasons. I am a scientist who does a lot of modelling, luckily software such as R is available on Mac so I am happy with that. However, I am stuck with some windows dependency due to ArcGIS which is windows only.
    I have several questions:
    1. I have a couple of existing machines that have cheapo PCI-E Sil3132 RAID cards that run RAID 0 on two 1TB disks as swap. It should be possible to use this in Bootcamp no problems as Windows has drivers for it, but could I access this array through OSX and importantly, through Parallels so I could use the Mac and Windows at the same time?
    2. I have several external arrays that use the ESATA connection from some RAID cards, however, these are all in NTFS format. Can I read/write to these disks in OSX? I am confused by an abundance of posts which say yes, no but yes in Snow Leopard..
    3. Reading people's comments, it is widely accepted to steer clear of the Mac RAID card as it is overpriced. Is it also not compatible with Windows?
    4. Do you guys think it is worth it to move? I could just go down the PC route again and get a similar spec machine as to the Mac Pro, but I can't tell you how much Windows upsets me sometimes.
Any advice at all is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    A

Dual boot though makes things more complex and doesn't sound like running Windows programs in a VM is going to help.
Therefore a lot to convert, consider, and limitations.
Don't know how well if at all Parallels 6 will work with your arrays.
Swap. Put your system on an SSD, be sure to have enough RAM, because Mac OS and users avoid swapping and pageouts like the plague.
A Mac Pro can be a fine Windows only system, suitable almost, and similar to others that use Xeon processor.
Burn out hits everyone, but maybe if you could get past that and build a new system from ground up that meets your needs and expectations, that would be easier.
NTFS write ability is not hard to add, but is not native to OS X either.
Disclaimer: I run my Mac Pro as Windows 99% and have played around with some PC controller cards and Mac controller cards, and there is always trouble with cross platform.
As for Mac Pro, $4k+ for 3.33GHz 6-core 3 x 8GB RAM buys a lot of hardware, and in PC realm something that can be clocked much higher and more RAM...

  • Keyboard in windows through parallels

    Hi,
I'm running OSX 10.9 and windows 7 through parallels.
I cannot get my keyboard to function similar in windows as it does in my OSX. I have change the keyboard to my language (danish) with the apple, parallels label. The @ key works now like it does in mac, however {},[] does not. These symbols are very important to my, as i am studying programming, and i will not accept to have several combinations of keys to gain the symbols pre-mentioned depending on in which OS im coding in.
    What to do?

Depending on how you have Parallels set up, you should be able to 'see' al of your user folders from the Windows desktop. You could create a folder on your Mac Desktop, save the design file(s) there and then attach from Mac Macil (or whichever email client you use on a Mac - I use MS Outlook which would handle the files beautifully - not so certain about Mail).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How to access ZFS share from Windows 7?

I am new to UNIX and am having a hard time to get a ZFS share to access from windows 7 on my home network.
I was able to access both WHS 2011 and QNAP 459 share on SE 11 by using the file manager - Server - windows & then just using the IP address, username, password. That was easy or at least similar to what I was used with windows 7.
However, I have yet to be able to access a ZFS pool containing a share that I can access from another windows 7 machine at home.
Apparently, I can mount the share from windows but the login name/password do not get accepted when I add a network connection in windows. Windows does seem to find the path \\solaris\tank_share1 and even mounts it, but the login for SE 11 does not work for some reason.
I changes the workgroup name to WORKGROUP in windows but that did not change anything. I tried to edit the pam.conf file by changing the ownership from root to myself so I could use gedit since it has been 15 years since I last used vi. However, that corrupted the setup as I got "system error" message on reboot that never got out of that infinite loop.
I am basically using the instruction through the following link:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/observatory/entry/accessing_opensolaris_shares_from_windows
Any help to get this problem resolved is much appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kurt

The documented procedure of having to edit the pam_conf file seems to work followed by resetting one's password seems to work after all. I believe, by taking away ownership from root to "admin user" screwed things up. I had to relearn how to use vi but that didn't take very long.
Got about 50 MB/s speed coping from Windows SSD to SE11 SSD via very small (5 GB) RAIDZ array in VMWare (running on top of WIN 7-64). I have to try native SE11 SSD next as the VMWare setup is just for practice.
Q: Is there a way to launch gedit from the terminal window in root mode so I wouldn't have to use vi?

  • Can you read/write to Mac partition from Windows 7 partition with bootcamp?

Hi there. I am about to take delivery of a new Air and want to install Windows on it. As accessing both simultaneously isn't important to me, I don't mind using boot camp and would like the performance gains (if there are any?) of booting straight into either.
The question is: would I be able to, from Windows, access and edit (have full access to) files stored on the Mac partition?
Furthermore, does anyone know whether I could run itunes on both using the same set of files (i.e. exactly the same itunes whether in OS X or Windows?).
Thanks very much for your help. I have heard contradictory things so wanted to see what the real answer was!
    Thanks,
    Tom.

iTunes has to be somewhere you can write. There are some tips on iTunes probably in the devoted forums.
But writing to Mac partition (HFS+) requires 3rd party driver. Same for writing to NTFS from Mac OS.
I would not recommend MacDrive8 for allowing Windows to write to Mac HFS, but that is and was the first to do so. Paragon-Software has been creating some file system drivers for Windows, Linux and now Mac to go both ways. Most of their products are in the backup & recovery and partitioning area.
Apple has added read-only feature to allow accessing HFS but the feature (and it is not really a service or driver that you can turn on/off or choose to not install, it is part of the Boot Camp package) has been known to need to be renamed/deleted. Not always but will sometimes trigger BSOD. Maybe reading a file with a file name? doubt it but I rename "AppleHFS" and "AppleMNT" so they don't load or function in Windows 7.

    Hi,

It is likely to be an incompatibility between Windows 2008R2 smbv2 and the NSS3000 smbd but I can't find any firmware update and I can't find the process to allow in the registry.
I can ping it, I can connect on the web interface, I can connect on FTP but no CIFS at all.
Firmware version running is 1.20.1. Hardware rev : V03.
    Any idea?

Hi SpaceBass, have you looked into sharepoints or into Netinfo manager. I have been playing around with sharepoints and it does let me enter non local users into the sharing prefs- albeit manually. Only thing is , depending on the number of macs you have, it could be a long and tedious job entering it all by hand. Netinfo may have an easier way, I'll do some more digging and post back.
    Cheers.
