Accessing mac partition within vista

How can I access my Mac partition when I'm booted into Vista? I am able to access my Vista partition when booted into Mac OS, but not the other way around? I've installed iTunes in both partitions and would like to access my music in the Mac partition. How can I do that? I'd also like to transfer my bookmarks to the Vista partition as well. Boot Camp works great on my system but I would like to access my Mac media files when booted into Vista.

Thanks hatter. I just downloaded HFSExplore. It's simple, easy to use and saves 50 bucks (MacDrive7).
It's also safer, being read only.
Writing to the HFS+ volume from Windows can prove disastrous if not done properly

  • How to access Mac Partition after bootcamp

I've just recently bootcamped my Mac and now i have windows 7 and that is working fine but now when I try to get onto Mac Partition it dosent work. I've tried to restart my Mac but it hasn't worked I can't access the Mac Partition it is just stuck on the loading screen when you turn the Mac on and stays like that. How do i fix this or just access the Mac Partition

    Hi,
usually you hold down the Alt/Option-key at startup of your Mac to get the Boot Selection screen.
There you can choose which Operating System to boot into.
Once in OSX you might wanna go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
If that's not working you should boot from your OSX Install DVD (holding down the C-key at startup) and use Disk Utility from it to verify/repair your harddisk/OSX.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Can no longer see or access Mac partition

I upgraded my iMac to 10.6.1 and then installed\configured bootcamp. Walked through the XP installation with no problem. My Mac partition\boot drive is not available in the bootcamp control panel and holding the alt\option key does not provide the 2 drives like on my other Mac. I also can not use the Snow Leopard disk. The system only boots to XP now. Any suggestions or ideas on what I can do would be welcome. I am even willing to reload ... If I can get that far.

where you able to solve this problem? I'm now facing a similar issue.

  • Clean Access MAC OS and Vista support ? Any idea's

We have a sort of catch 22
MAC OSX supported in 4.1 but not in 4.0
Vista Agent supported in 4.0.4.0 + but not In 4.1
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6128/products_device_support_table09186a00807600e1.html#wp43982
CCA releases 4.1(0)/4.1.0.1/4.1.0.2 and 4.1.0.0/4.1.0.2 Agents do not support Windows Vista
Only 4.0(x) releases starting from 4.0(4) and 4.0.x.x Agent versions starting from 4.0.4.0 support Windows Vista client operating systems.

Cisco promised a new release/patch to support Windows Vista by the end of March. We are waiting for the same as more and more people are now bringing Vista machines online.

  • Clone a Mac Partition to an External Drive from within Windows 7 Bootcamp?

Anyone know if it is possible to clone the mac os x partition to an external drive from within Windows 7 bootcamp? I (like a few others) had a problem with the latest 10.6.3 update and I cannot boot into the mac partition but I can access it via bootcamp so I was thinking about trying to clone it to an external drive and then boot from the new clone and see if that works.
    Appreciate your comments.

setup a 30GB partition on an external drive, along with a partition of 150% the size of your Mac OS X volume -- or larger.
    Install OS X to 30GB.
While booted from DVD, before you install, you'll need to go to Utility Menu => Disk Utility to do the partitoning. While there, in DU see if you can repair your system.
And where is your TimeMachine or clone backup? The "Step #1: Backup before beginning your Boot Camp project."?
No way to backup or clone from within Windows, though you may be able to write to NTFS backup volume, UNLESS you bought MacDrive8 which allows read AND write to HFS+ from within Windows.

  • Boot Camp access to mac partition

    Hi.
I have Windows 7 Pro on Boot Camp, which is also on a server 2003 domain. When the windows network users log in, they can access the Mac Partition. How do I prevent this from happening?
I know it is read only, but I prefer to have them access only the Windows partition when logged into Windows, and only have them access the Mac partition, when they are logged into Snow Leopard.
    Thank you!

    Rename AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys
By doing the following you will disable HFS mount / read mode on windows XP, Vista, 7.
Navigate to c:/windows/system32/drivers/AppleMNT.sys, rename the AppleMNT.sys file to something like AppleMNT_keep.sys or something of your likings.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern. It seems to happen on many systems.
    You find it in Windows/system32/drivers/AppleHFS.sys
Renaming to AppleHFS_disabled.sys will avoid the blue screens until you have found another solution or Apple updates Bootcamp 3
After renaming both myself because they are no longer "*.sys" or something? they are gone. In my case AppleHFS prevented Windows Backup from running to end and was causing error "some files skipped" and while some might find reading convenient, I prefer Windows not have even read-only access.
You can probably do better with MacDrive8.

  • Boot Camp Vista-Partition lost in Mac-Partition

    Hi everyone,
yesterday i reinstalled my leopard due to some issues. After this act i recovert my data using my Time Machine backup device.
Everything went well so far except one little nasty thing: the icon of my Vista-Partition (created with Boot Camp) was lost. And thats my problem. I can't see my Vista-Partition when i'm in Leopard. Even the Finder doesn't show me the partition.
The funny thing is, that i can boot into Vista without any problems using the Bootloader. When i'm using Vista, i still have access to the mac-partition. Nothing changed here after the reinstallation.
Would be nice, if anyone could help me bringing back the Vista-Access into my Leopard.

I figured graphics drivers would be an obstacle...just talked to a friend and got some advice:
    1. When display stays black after installation of Windows 7 64 bit (signal is on Mini-Display port)
restart from Windows 7 DVD - open command prompt (shift+F10) and delete all ATI Drivers.
    2. Restart Windows 7 with default graphics drivers. Download ATI Desktop drivers, modify using ATI MobilityModder, install modified drivers.
    It works.
Use of Magic Mouse's multi-touch features in Windows requires Apple's Bluetooth update 1.0 for Windows.

  • Cannot access Mac OS Partition from windows 8 running in boot camp

So I installed Windows 8.1 Pro through Boot Camp but I can't access the Mac OS partition from windows even though boot camp partition shows up while I'm on Mac OS. I have installed all the drivers from apple but still it didn't work. Then I downloaded Paragon HFS+ which was free for windows 8 and 8.1 thinking that this would solve my problem. The instructions told me to change the drive letter for mac partition from disk management by right clicking the drive pressing "change drive letter and path" button. But the "change drive letter and path" key in grey color and I can't press it. Can somebody please help?

    Ok Great,
Will installing Boot Camp drivers allow me to both read and write to the OS X Volume from windows?
This is important as if it will it means i can make the windows partition a lot smaller and keep all my files on the OS X partition which would be preferable.
    Jon
No, OSX will be read only (from Windows) and vice versa. (you can install 3rd party utilities on either or both partitions, to make read/write possible)

  • Can Windows access the files in the Mac Partition?

    HI,
I am gonna buy a Macbook pro and I would like to install Windows 7 also.
In boot camp, partitioning the hard drive for windows is just for Windows and its software installation or that restricts the hard disk size windows OS can access?
Basically, I am wondering whether user can access a file in mac partition from Windows seamlessly and vice versa. I am afraid if boot camp partition restricts the hard drive scope for each OS.
How VMware handles the hard drive partitioning?
    Thanks,
    Pandiarajan R

The Boot Camp drivers will give your Windows OS read-only access to the MacOS disc, but you can buy a third party software for getting full read/write access from Windows.
Similarly, as was already mentioned, MacOS provides read-only access to your NTFS partition for Windows, and you can download free third party drivers to get full read/write access to that partition.
Virtual machines get around the issue by providing the "guest" (virtual) OS access to the "host" system drives through emulated network shares. The shared areas just show up as mapped network drives on the Windows system when it is running virtualized.
I have a 3 year old MBP and I am running Snow Leopard on a 300GB partition and Windows 7 on a 200MB partition of the 500GB drive. I have the third party drivers mentioned above for both OSes so no matter what OS I am running, I have read/write access to both partitions on the drive.
On a side note, I interact with a large number of other computer users who do not run MacOS, so I find that it is a must for me to have the NTFS drivers on my Mac, as to force them to spend $50-80 to be able to occasionally use one of my external drives is not reasonable, so I keep the drives formatted in NTFS so everyone can access them. I had already ought 4 licenses for MacDrive 8 before I realized I could go the free NTFS driver route and could have saved myself about $200-300. Oh well, now my 4 PC's can access the few HFS+ formatted external drives I do keep around for Mac backups, etc. Not a bad thing after all.

  • I cant access my mac partition in windows 8 Bootcamp

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with windows 8 installed in Bootcamp 5. I can not access my mac partition. The apple hfs drivers are installed from bootcamp tools. I can not mount the mac partition via disk utility. option grayed out
I dont need to write to the partition so paying for 3rd party software is out of the question
I was filevult encrypted but I disabled it and let it decrypt itself (I now use encrypted disk images)
    any ideas?

if possible??? how do we configure the mac mini to allow the clients to access both partitions...the client will only see the one we are logged into at the server???

You have to explicitly share directories on external/secondary volumes.
Use the Server admin app to configure file sharing, and select which directory/directories on the second drive you want to share, then they'll be available to clients.

  • TS2570 Boot or Restore, can't see my Mac partition but can see my Windows7 partition. From Windows I can access my Mac files which I've backed up on a NTFS drive. I most probably will need to erase the Mac partition & make a new one, what happens to Boot

    Hi,
When I boot my 2010 MacBook Pro I get a gray screen, when I try to do a Restore, the Mac partition is nowhere in sight, it sees my Windows Partition.
When I in Windows I can see all the files in the Mac Partition and I've backed up my Mac files on a NTFS external drive. My Windows partition has been working fine, I've installed it 2 years ago and have been receiving regular updates. Only problem is my display driver crashes occasionally.
I most probably will have to recreate the Mac partition and re-install Mountain Lion from the Mac servers. BUT, what happens to Boot Camp and my Windows 7 partition?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no way to expand the partition upwards. As you noted, you would need to either start afresh, or simply find a good use for the first partition.

  • Boot camp can't view Mac partition

Hi guys. So heres my problem. I have a late 2012 27" Imac with a 3TB fusion drive, and I have boot camp successfully installed with Windows 8 (currently).
So my problem is when i'm booted into Windows, I cannot view my Mac partition at all. From what I understand, Apple have included HFS drivers which should enable me to at least view my Mac HDD when booted into windows, and the drivers are installed properly, however I still cannot even see my Mac HDD.
I have searched far and wide for possible solutions or even an explination as to why this isn't working for me, with no prevail. From what I understand, I think it might be the fusion drive which is preventing the reading capability. All I know is that i've tried almost everything (MacDrive etc.) and nothing works for me, I just ultimately want to be able to access my Mac HDD when im booted into Windows.
I have also tried on Windows 7 but I end up with the same problem.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!
Thanks guys, any help will be appreciated!

I believe that you have already answered your own question without realizing it.
You indicated that yoru MacOS partition is on a Fusion Drive.  If that is the case, then I do not believe that it is supported by Boot Camp, and you won't be able to access it.  If you double check teh Boot Camp documentation, I believe it should clarify that.  Fusion Drives are new technology from Apple (within the last year or so) and the technology is not really available to third parties yet, so other drivers like MacDrive, or HFS+ For Windows from Paragon won't have the ability to access the Fustion Drive until they either license the technology from Apple, ot attempt to reverse engineer it for themselves...
