Accessing Mail

I have an iPhone 3G and was able to access email via the Mail icon. I turned the phone off for the night and the next morning turned it on. When accessing Mail the application started 'checking for mail' and after approx. 3 to 4 seconds dropped back to the main menu. As new mail is received the number icon increments on the mail icon but the problem still exists when trying to read the new message.
I have iTunes 9.0.3.15 and software version 3.1.3.

Download any free App to your phone - it doesn't matter which. then hold the HOme Button down and press the top button until the red slider appears, but keep holding it until the phone switches off completely.
Wait a few seconds, then switch the phone on in the normal manner ... and it should be working okay now. At this point we hopefully say "taraaaaa .... its working again"
The mail count is probably going up as your Mail app is getting the mail downloaded , but is crashing before it has a chance to realise its the same one as before and adjust the count. I'm guessing that its a POP3 account.

Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

I took Lion off my Macbook Pro and put Snow Leopard back on and now I can't access Mail or iPhoto. How do I get Mail and iPhoto to work with the Snow Leopard I just put back on?

Hi. I was having slowness problems with my Macbook Pro and thought I would re-install Lion but put Snow Leopard back on by mistake. I bought the computer used with Lion on it and don't have access to the USB drive or a username/password to reinstall Lion. Now I can't access Mail or iPhoto since I put Snow Leopard on.
Is there a way to get my Mail and iPhoto working again with Snow Leopard or do I have to "re-upgrade" to Lion?

You can't. When you converted those libraries to Lion's format, you lost the ability to go backwards. Unless you saved a bootable backup./clone or Time Machine backup of your previous SL installation, you're up the proverbial creek w/o a paddle.

Wife and I have separate iOS devices, separate iCloud accounts. But we both want to access mail from the iMac (OSX Mavericks.) Currently only my mail is linked. How to configure so that wife's iCloud mail can be seen on iMac. Simple and explicit please!

How do I set up the Mac to allow it to access my wife's e-mail too, either in the same mail inbox or a separate one. Simple instructions please!

If Mail in Mavericks is the same as earlier versions you can select accounts in the sidebar, so that you can either display the inboxes for individual accounts, or the contents of all the account inboxes. (If the accounts don't show click the disclosure triangle next to 'INBOX'). The layout may have changed since the version I have - Snow Leopard - but you should be able to do the same thing.

I have never had to enter a password to access mail. However, recently, I keep being asked for password on my ****** address. Only on my macbook. (which, btw, has a version number the drop down doesn't offer as a choice. I had to putt 9.4)

When I look up the account the "password" is a long string of gobbledygook. Something I would never do.
But when I attempt to use that pw I still can't get in.
I have no trouble accessing that email account on my mac mini. Just on the macbook.

I'm confess I'm still trying to get a handle on your problem. You do a fantastic job of describing it ... but I'm just trying to picture it accurately in my head.
I think, were I in your shoes, I'd begin by looking at what the debug page has to say for the specific destination in which you're interested in fixing. In other words, I'm not clear on where, exactly, this destination points ...

Is that your site, or the division within your site that you want to fix? "Normally", you do not need to specify a site handle to get to your site within your transfer CGI ... if you say "uillinois.edu", it's enough to transfer your users to iTunes U ... but every site still has a handle, and you could, if you wanted to, actually specify it in your transfer CGI. For example, this:

is for a division within my site ... but it's impossible to tell the difference between "site" and "division" from just the handle (I mean, if I didn't say "this is a site" and "this is a division", there'd be no way for you to know). So when I look at your creds and permissions on your debug page, I can't quite tell if they give you download access for your site, or for the specific division you want to fix. If you could open the debug page with your division as destination (or confirm that that's what we're looking at), it'd rule out some things.

Paldeng, thanks for the suggestion. I've done all that. I can connect to the server, but apparently they are not recognizing my ID and password. I can use the server program if I don't go through Mail (using the same ID and password). My mother in another state with another provider has had the same email issue, as also my husband on his laptop who uses the same internet connection I do. His worked fine until we had it repaired at the Apple store and all the original programs reloaded (with the required updates, I assume). We can receive email in Mail, we just cannot send.
I contacted my service provider, and we went over my connections. They said it was not their problem and connected me with Apple, resulting in a charge to me because my warranty is long expired. Apple swears it is not their problem, it is the provider, so here I sit. My son was able to fix my Mom's Mail (she's 97) and got my husband's working also, until mine went out, by tweaking connection descriptions and ports remotely. The thing is, we had not messed with any of those settings, so what changed? I just did not want to bother my son again, as he has many other demands on his time.
Since this fiasco with the Mail v4.6 update, I'm wondering if something else was updated that works well with Lion and Mountain Lion, but does not work well with Snow Leopard and Leopard. I think the problem I had with the Mail update was that my Mail program had been renamed to Mail (original), and therefore was not being recognized by the update. Perhaps they had another tweak in there somewhere that is affecting outgoing mail connections?

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
- connecting the iPad to your Mac
- selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
- selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

I am getting an error message on all devices when attempting to access mail.

Although I have made no changes to an account I have used for over 5 years now, I suddenly am getting error messages on my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, my iPad, and my laptop when attempting to download mail from my account. The messages are all server or password related. I logged into iCloud.com and while everything else is functioning correctly, attempting to access mail yielded an error message as well (with the option of reporting the error to Apple). Obviously this is a server issue, but I don't see any other postings online, so am uncertain how wide-spread the problem is. I need recommendations regarding the most efficient way of reporting this problem to Apple in order to access my email as soon as possible!!
I have put myself in the express lane for assistance later today, but don't know how helpful that route will be! My devices show that the last time mail could be accessed was yesterday at 8:20 PM.

Same issue here in WI and for me it was at 6:36p CST.
I'm changed my password, removed iCloud from my phone ... tried 3G and WIFI with no luck. I also cannot check it on my Mac or iPad. I was able to get contacts and calenders back on my phone but no mail yet.
Did the whole Apple support thing and apparently I'm part of the 1%
EDIT: Question: are all of you former MobileMe users as well? Just wondering because I know there were going to be some changes as they completely move MobileMe over to iCloud and drop the "extra" services. I just can't remember if it was just a single cut off date or a series of dates. THAT email is stuck in my iCloud folders.

How to access Mail-Attachments in XI 3.0?

Hello everyone,
We have a scenario, where a Mail with attached Files (text, pdf) is sent to the XI. I would like to write a module which accesses the Mail-Attachments, retrieves their content and appends the Base64-encoded content to the payload. I've tried several things, took inspiration from existing Module-Beans, but i never really came to the point that i have the attachment-name and content to do the Encoding.
Could anyone give me a hint what is a proper way to achieve this?
Or is there probably a more elegant method to access Mail attachments within XI (3.0)?

Mail stops accessing mails

Mail stops accessing mails in most cases after downloading many of them. The rest will follow then and when. I am not sure if there is a rest because I forget the number of the downloaded mails when the procedure is finished.

Try dragging this file to the Desktop and reboot...

Might also pay to clean caches, I use Applejack, but there are many. The log makes me think cache especially.

How can i require password to be input when accessing mail

I don't want to be able to access mail without putting in a password. How do I set this?

What I've done is set my iPad up so that it auto-locks after 15 minutes of not being used, requiring a passcode to get back in. You can set it up for more or less time. While it isn't as convenient as having a password required for the email specifically, it does help protect it a little bit.
You may know this already, but you can also set your iPad up to require that you manually retrieve your email. Again, not as good as having a password, but at least the messages don't suddenly appear.

Unable to access mail in icloud

I am unable to access mail in icloud remotely or through a web browser. I am able to sgn in, just not acces the email. Any ideas?

Username and Password are correct and Thunderbird says they are incorrect. I can access mail through web client.

I have made sure email credentials are correct on the Mail Server. I can access mail through a web client using the email credentials I am inputting however Thunderbird will not let me configure the account saying the username and password might be incorrect.

Why Can't I access Mail By Clicking The Mail Icon?

I used to have no problem accessing my Mail by simply clicking that Mail icon on the dashboard. Now when I click I get nothing and instead have to go to a browser and type in iCloud, click on that link which takes me to a page to sign in. Why is that happening? Sure doesn't make it easy to access mail.

That's just it...nothing happens when I click on the Mail app either...I've checked everything in Systems Preferences and it's telling me "mail" is "on" but the only way I can access Mail is going to the iCloud website and sign in
