Accessing modem registers with serial interface

Is it possible to access the registers of a modem (which is under test)
with labVIEW, the modem is connected to my PC with a serial (RS232) interface,
I tried using the serial commmunication VIs but they did not work. I want to send read (RD) and write (WR)commands to the modem in a similar fashion to the way I use hyperterminal.
Ben suggested using the AT commands but I dont knowhow to do this from labVIEW, what I hope to do is download scripts, which are just register accesses, and then just view the status of some registers
Any ideas?

Dennis,
I do not have the exact commands that I will be using yet but the communication will be very similar(but with more RD and WR commands)to the attached hyperterminal session, this simple session works fine with the modem. I want to do this in LabVIEW, with the same settings.
Ive tried to use the "LabVIEW <-> Serial.vi" in the get examples section, but it was throwing out strange responses(even when I appended the commmand with the carriage return) it would return "r f2" or something for a read command and "w f2f" for a write command and then it would give the right reading on the next line.
Also just wondering is there a way to automatically append the command with the carriage return character?
regards,
Kevin Staunton

  • Serial interfaces, ip vrf forwarding, and PBR with set vrf

I am doing some work with VRF-lite but I am having some trouble with serial interfaces. I have a PE router with a serial interface where I want to take incoming traffic and using policy-based routing send the traffic to the appropriate VRF. I want to assign the serial interface itself to be in one of those VRFs, not the global routing table. Eventually, I also want to overlap the VPNs/VRFs to send traffic going out the serial interface through the VRF assigned to the serial interface. Initially, it looks something like this:
    ip vrf VRF1
    rd 65000:3
    route-target export 65000:3
    ip vrf VRF2
    rd 65000:18
    route-target import 65000:3
    ip route vrf VRF1 10.90.51.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.11.18
    interface Serial0/0/0
    ip vrf forwarding VRF1
    ip address 192.168.11.17 255.255.255.252
    router bgp 65000
    no synchronization
    bgp log-neighbor-changes
    no auto-summary
    address-family ipv4 vrf VRF1
    redistribute static
    no auto-summary
    no synchronization
    exit-address-family
    ip access-list extended remote-source
    permit ip 10.90.0.0 0.0.255.255 any
    route-map SERIAL-INCOMING permit 100
    match ip address remote-source
    set vrf VRF2
But if I try to turn on the policy based routing at the serial interface, I get an error:
    Router(conf)#interface Serial0/0/0
    Router(config-if)#ip policy route-map SERIAL-INCOMING
% Can not apply route-map SERIAL-INCOMING to this interface
% Either remove 'set vrf' from route-map or unconfigure 'ip vrf forward'
I can sort of get around the problem by using an "ip vrf receive" instead of "ip vrf forward", but unfortunately, that leaves my Serial interface in the global table which isn't what I wanted.
What troubles me is that I can do this without any problems on an Ethernet interface. Are there any known issues with "ip vrf forward" and using PBR and "set vrf" on Serial interfaces, or have I configured something wrong?
If I stick with the "ip vrf receive", how can I force the physical Serial interface into the appropriate VRF?
    Thanks.

    Upon further investigation....
The serial interface issue was a red herring. It just so happens that every other time I've done this it has been on a flavor of 12.2x on a 6500/7600 where this feature is supported. The only systems I have with Serial interfaces are 1841s.
The problem with the 1841 is that most of the code revisions out there do not support this feature. It was only added to the regular code train with the recent release of 12.2(24)T. I tested with 12.2(24)T1 and you are now able to use "ip vrf forwarding" on all interfaces along with a PBR route-map that uses the "set vrf" option.
Thanks, Laurent, for pointing me towards the TAC on this.

  • Is it possible to access a group of (sequential) registers with a single URL?

I'm testing out datasockets to an A-B RSLinx OPC server. At the moment, it appears as though each register in the PLC has to be accessed with an individual URL. Is it possible to access a group of (sequential) registers with a single URL? I suspect i may have to cluster a bunch of individuals together

    goog,
For each data member, you will need a unique URL. There is not a way to bundle them into one URL.

I cannot retrieve the password for the wifi connection on my imac and so cannot access the internet with my ipad at home.  I have a cable modem. Help please!

If you mean that you cannot remember the password for your WiFi network this will work for you - or it should work if you are the administrator on the Mac.
You will need to be logged in as the administrator on your Mac and you must know the password - Open Keychain Access on your Mac in the utilities folder, click on Passwords. Find the Airport Network Password listed on the right. Double click on it. Click on show password in the the window that pops up. Enter your administrator password when prompted and click allow.
If Keychain is locked - you must enter the administrator password there as well to unlock it and access the password.
If you have set the Mac up for Internet Sharing for the iPad to share the Mac's connection, just create a new network On the Mac with Internet sharing and a new password.

  • Unable to access wireless connection with linksys rooter WRT54GS

    Hi,
I just installed a wireless rooter Linksys WRT54GS on my connection, The problem I have is being able to access it with my wireless on my laptop.
I kept getting a message stating "connection unindentified" "access limited". I've done most of what is already suggested on your forum such has turning the power off of my rooter, my modem and such and still nothing. I'm able to access the wireless with my girlfriend Mac Notebook, my playstation 3 and my desktop computer which uses Windows X. First I thought that it my be a problem with my security but even when the connection is unprotected I still get that error. I try to disable the IpV6but that didn'tdo anything either.
My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio X300 PQX32C-033019 with Vista and my rooter is a Linksys WRT54GS vers. 6
Here's my connection log, sorry if it's in French:

  • Troubleshoot CRS with 100GE interface

    Hi guys,
We have some trouble with 100GE interfaces. Log says it's a far end failure, but anyway I would like to discard this side.
Looking at the output of "show controllers hundredGigE 0/13/0/0 all" I really can't tell everything's Ok.
I would like to understand a few things about this output:
100GBASE-LR4 has 4 lanes, but there are 20 lanes listed in section
"Mapping of Service Interface Lane and RX PCS Lane:"
    What does PCS mean?
What might be the root cause of current PCS Lane BIP Error Counters?
Is there anything I would need to check on plim, pse, etc?
Also, any reading material will be appreciated.
Here you have the command output:

    Thanks in advance,
    Diego.

    I found an important issue:
Lane 0 rx power is lower than minimum expected.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/data_sheet_c78-633027.html
I guess that's the main problem, but anyway, I would like to know more about this type of transceiver and how to troubleshoot it.
    Thanks, Diego.

  • Serial Interface

    Hello,
it seems that the Java Communications Package (javax.comm) is not
    part of Java SE 6.
Does anybody know where I can get this package because I want to
access the serial interface with Java.
    Thanks in advance.
    regards
    Jochen

  • I have Creative Cloud at work and we're having an issue with serial numbers.

Adobe's website says when you download and install one of their CC programs, say Acrobat for example, you receive an email with the serial number and Adobe registers the serial to your account.  I have downloaded several of the products and have been using them for a year now but there are no registered products or serial numbers showing under our account.  We have a license for two users but my boss's access isn't working and is now asking for a serial number.  Anyone know what we need to do?

  • Labview communication to Hart equipment using serial interface

I am trying to communicate with various Fluke / Hart temperature equipment (Chubb E4, 9107 Dry well..) with LabView 8.0 thru the serial interface. I have the list of commands from Hart but they are not the same as the typical serial write / read commands and are not working. I am communicating to other equipment using the serial interface with normal serial command formats (i.e.  001c000000FABD, etc... ) but Hart commands are single letters (i.e.   t<CR> )   for reading the temperature. I'm not sure if the problem is with Hart or LabView VIs that I am using.
    Thanks in advance

I'm sorry.  I was the one who jumped to the conclusion that it was Hart protocol.
You are using in USB/RS-232 converter.  I assume you see this as another Com port on your computer.  I've used these devices before without problems, those a few people on the forums have said that certain brands just haven't worked for them.
As I said before, double check all the baud and parity settings.  Double check that you have the right cable, whether it need to be null modem or a straight through cable.
The manual  ftp://ftp.hartscientific.com/manuals/9105-07.pdf looks like it should be a null modem cable.
Check that  you are actually sending out a CR character at the end of your string.  Do you need to send a capital T or a lower case t.  That actually messed me up for a few minutes recently on a device I was trying to communicate with.   t<CR> should look like t\r if the constant you are writing is set to \codes display or 74 0D (lower case t) or 540D (upper case T).
Is the device set up to return a line feed in its response?  Have you provide enough of a delay between the VISA write and read to give the instrument time to send the response?
Try things in hyperterminal.  It is a simple place to start to see if you have basic communication there.  If you do, then you can focus on the LabVIEW.  If you don't, then you know the issue is with the wiring, device, or Windows driver or settings.
Are you using the basic LabVIEW VI's for Serial Read and Write or VI's that from somewhere else?  You said "I'm wondering if LabView's VIs are feeding the newer information in the old format or something like that."  LabVIEW is only going to send out whatever you tell it to send out.
Sorry it's a bunch of questions rather than answers, but hopefully it gets you looking in different areas that you may not have thought of.

  • ASA 5505 version 9.1 in extended access-list I can add interface name as destination??

    Hi All,
I'm adding extended ACL on the ASA 5505 version 9.1 and found that in the source or destination field I can specify interface name instead of object, host/network but can't find it documented anywhere and what is the behavior of that?
access-list VOICE_IN extended permit ip object obj-VOICE-LAN interface OUTSIDE
Is it matching the egress interface or what?

Use the interface name rather than IP address to match traffic based
on which interface is the source or destination of the traffic. You must
specify the interface keyword instead of specifying the actual IP
address in the ACL when the traffic source is a device interface. For
example, you can use this option to block certain remote IP addresses
from initiating a VPN session to the ASA by blocking ISAKMP. Any
traffic originated from or destined to the ASA, itself, requires that you
use the access-group command with the control-plane keyword.

  • I can't access the internet with Firefox on my computer (Windows 7 PC). I have used Firefox as my browser for 1 year but 5 days ago it stopped working even though Internet Explorer worked fine. I can't solve the problem and need some help.Randy Brown

    September 26, 2011
    Dear Mozilla,
I am having some difficulty accessing the internet with Firefox on one of my PC computers. I normally use Mozilla Firefox as my web browser and google is my homepage and gmail is my email system. The operating system is Windows 7. For over a year this system worked perfectly but a few days ago it stopped working. When I launch Firefox now I get the message that that website (www.google.com) is unavailable. In fact, I can’t access any website and I am blocked from the internet entirely within Firefox. My internet connection is fine because Internet Explorer works fine. I can access google and any other website within that web browser. I have investigated all the security issue I can manage and found no smoking gun. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox to no avail. Is Windows 7 compromising the effectiveness of Firefox? Any suggestions or other assistance you can offer would be appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Randy Brown

  • Problem with Local Interfaces (WSAD 5)

I built an Entity Bean with Local Interface and a Remote Interface (apperently they both have the same JNDI name in WSAD)
and when I look up for the name from other Session Bean (same EJB group) and I try to cast it to the local interface there is a classCastException.............
    HELP ME

    Nidhi
I had the same problems as you that went away. If you have both remote and local interfaces defined, and your remote inerface can be accessed via JNDI lookup using (say) "ejb/sessionbean/stateless/HelloHome", then you can access the local intercafe using "local:ejb/ejb/sessionbean/stateless/HelloHome".
The URL http://localhost:9080/UTC/initialize?port=2809 is very useful to browse the JNDI tree. Just expand "Local EJB beans" and position your mouse over the item of interest. The JNDI lookup name will echo in the bottom (solid) frame of the browser. The only problem is that the jndilookup name will appear (mistakenly) as local:/ejb/ejb/stateless......, just get rid of the first forward-slash to make it look like local:ejb/ejb/stateless....
    Hope this helps

  • Creation of sub item with serial numbers in outbound delivery

    Hi All,
We need to create a sub item for an Outbound Delivery main item in change mode with serial numbers for sub item.
    Process flow:
    1. Sales order item created with main item
    2. Outbound Delivery created with main item
    3. Outbound Delivery interfaced to external logistics sytem
    4. External logistics system pick the main item and a sub item (packaging) from warehosue and ship to customer
    5. External logistics sytems send delivery pick confirmation interface with main item details and serial numbers for sub item
Now we have to create a sub item with serial numbers in the delivery referencing the same main item.
NB: Delivey can have multiple similar main items but there is only material number in SAP for sub item. Hence the requirement to identify relevant sub item serial numbers to each delivery main item.
Can you kindly tell me in what possible ways we can create sub item with serial numbers for a deliveyr main item in change mode.
    Thanks in advance
    Best  Regards
