Accessing msn mail using Apple Mail

I'm helping my father migrate to a mac and have been trying to configure Apple Mail so it can access his existing msn mail account. I've tried to locate the account settings on his "butterfly web browser" but cannot locate them. Can anyone help out?

I am trying to do a similar thing. Use Hotmail through Mac Mail and can only find the below. Let me know if this works for you - I am yet to try it.
http://www.automagic-software.com/products.php
check your mail->preferences->accounts, and click on your hotmail account.
in the 'account information' tab, i have the following--without the brackets:
description: [what shows up in the account pane to the left]
email address: [your hotmail address]
full name: [um...yer name]
incoming mail server: [hotmail.com]
user name: [your email address before the @]
password: [your hotmail password]
outgoing mail server:[services.msn.com:myusername]
if i click the 'server settings' button below that pulldown, i can type in 'services.msn.com' easily enough. but, in order to get my username to show, i change the authentication pulldown to 'password' and enter my username and password.
ok...that last bit is where it gets a little hinky. mine works just fine with authentication turned off. but, in the main view my outgoing server still shows my username after the colon.
also, make sure you configure the other tabs....especially the 'advanced' tab where you have to enable the account.
and, that the httpmail url is set to:
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp

  • Cannot get or send mail using Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad

Everyone in my household cannot get or send mail on their Apple Mail for iPad and iPhone. We all get the same message: "The user name or password for [account] is incorrect." This just started happening yesterday afternoon. No problems before that. I called my hosting company and Apple, and both blamed the other. My Apple system is always updated, so I have the latest version of Maverick. Had no problems with it up until now.
However, I awoke this morning to find downloaded emails in the same program, but when I go to "get mail," it says the same thing, and still won't allow me to send or receive.
Here's the kicker. I also use Gmail with the exact same accounts (yes, I need both since Apple Mail does things that Gmail doesn't, and vice versa). No problem! I get all my emails and can send with no problem. So, my hosting company claims it can't be them (makes sense). It only happens using Apple Mail, and I have several email addresses. None of them work (other than the strange phenomena of suddenly getting some of them downloaded for no apparent reason).
What do I do from here? I've changed passwords, deleted and tried to set up my emails, only to get the message that they probably will not work. And they don't. I have shut down and restarted my iPad and iPhone, to no avail.
Thank god for my Gmail account, or my business would be closed.
Again, this is happening on four devices in my home: 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.

I have a comcast account I use on my phone and use it for receiving and sending mail. When you look at the account in settings, you need to check each of these
    incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
username: the part of your email address before the @
    password: your password
    outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
    Under Advanced
    Use SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 995
If you cannot make it work from changing settings in the account, delete the account and start over. Use the "Other" setting when starting the account. It is a POP3 account and make the entries I gave you. Once you do that, it should check the entries and validate the account. You shouldn't have any trouble from there. Those settings will work from either the iPhone on cell, or wireless. Mine will even work when I'm at home on my wireless there, which is on the Comcast network.
    Hope that helps you.

  • Problem with AOL mail being recognized in sent mail using Apple Mail

    Hi!
In Apple Mail, when I click on the Sent Mail icon, I see the two accounts that I use (one is a POP-gmail, and one is an IMAP-berkeley.edu), but not AOL mail. Its sent files go into this folder that is not included.
Also, AOL mail and calmail (the berkeley.edu mail) have these two icons under the inbox and the sent mail that are black circles with an @ sign in the middle, when clicked on they have several folders about contacts, sent mail... but it is very annoying to have them.
I would like for all sent mail to be included in the sent mail tab, and for these two @ sign tabs to be removed.
Thank you so much for the help!

    also...
is there a way to constantly synchronize my gmail account to the gmail.com inbox... what i mean is: whenever I read a message sent to the gmail inbox on Apple Mail and delete that message, then when I sign on gmail.com the message is no longer there
This somehow happens with the calmail server, when I delete a message using Apple Mail the calmail message is gone when I log onto that website and check the inbox
Thanks so much for all of your help!

  • What is the best way to archive and store old mail using Apple Mail?

    Hi,
I have a number of older emails that I would like to archive and store for potential future access. Even though I have mails from earlier Lotus Notes accounts and Microsoft Office accounts, I am referring in this case only to apple mail data that I ave 'stored on my mac'.
Any advice would be great. At the moment I am using predominantly gmail, so if things go haywire, rebuilding my mail is relatively easy. That said, I tend to file and save locally important messages.
    Cheers,
    Mark.

    This is from Mail's help:
    Archive messages
You can store messages in an Archive mailbox so that you can quickly find them later when you’re ready to take action.
Select one or more messages to archive. If you select a conversation, all messages in the conversation are archived.
Choose Message > Archive. An Archive mailbox is created for each account whose messages you archive. For example, if you archive a message sent to your iCloud account and a message sent to your Yahoo! account, an Archive mailbox is created for each account.Archived messages remain in the Archive mailbox until you delete or move them. Depending on the account type, the Archive mailbox is stored on the mail server.
You can customize the Mail toolbar to include the Archive icon.

  • Undeliverable Mail using Apple mail

I recently decided to transition from Outlook for Mac to Apple mail for obvious reasons - I don't like Microsoft.  However, 50% of the emails, I am sending are being returned to me.  These are the same people I have been emailing for years, some I am just replying to their message.
Why is this happening?  Here is a string from the bounced email:

Open Apple Mail, and open Preferences (under Mail in the Menu Bar).  On the General tab, check the "Default Email Reader" and set it to Mail (6.6).

i used apple mail to access a go daddy email account, will all the data (folders, contacts, messages) be saved for off line use?

If it is saved to a local folder, then yes.
IMAP typically it stays on the server. POP typically you down load to your computer with the option of leaving it on the server.

E-mail messages that I either sent or received months ago are showing up in my mailbox and receivers' mailboxes. In one case, a message someone had sent to me wound up in the mailbox of a third person, who was not included in the address list!!  I have only two accounts, and have checked everything; only one account is showing the repeats Now, that account is my professional account, and it resides in three places: I use it on the laptop described here, I use it through Apple Mail on the much newer desktop Mac in my office, and I can run it through Web mail on my employer's server, which is where the professional account resides (I have a mailbox there, etc.) That program is called Zimbra.
My personal account is with Earthlink and is not doing the repeats. I access it either through my MacBook's Apple Mail or the Web; the Apple Mail on my office Mac is not configured to access the Earthlink server.
What IS going on here?? My friends, colleagues, and students (I teach college) are mystified by these ancient messages.

  • Where is the MailAccounts.plist stored for a network user account using Apple Mail on Snow Lion?

Where is the MailAccounts.plist file stored for a network user using Apple Mail on Snow Leopard?  It appears one of my users has managed to do something to their mail account as Apple Mail will no longer close once opened and the Sent Folder has a perpetual spinning pinwheel.

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

  • Suddenly can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail

Suddenly, I can not access .mac mail from Apple Mail (Version 2.1.1 (752.3)).
For quite a few years I have been using Apple Mail to access my .mac email. As of last Friday, Mail stopped working. Nothing has changed (accept for the installation of the latest OS X security upgrade - SecUpd2006-008Univ.pkg).
I can still access my .mac mail through the .mac web browser and I can still access it through SnapperMail on my Palm Treo 680. But, when I open Apple Mail on my MacBook, it does not do anything, just sits there. When I open the Activity Viewer window, 3 activities are going on:
    1. Opening Mailbox
    2. Synchronizing with Server (Connecting to...)
    3. Synchronizing with Server (Synchronizing with...)
After a few minutes, the error triangle appears next to the Inbox and .Mac logos on the left hand panel.
I have tried Apple Mail from several locations (different ISP / WiFi / LAN) over several days but get the same problem.
Does anyone have ideas for a solution?
    Regards
    Peter

Let’s first make sure that the update is installed properly, and post back with your observations when done.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the update that appears to not have been installed properly. You may also need to reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • I seem to have multiple problems related or unrelated.  I cannot use Apple Mail for blueyonder and mostly for gmail as both show that the server is off line.  My pop up blocker doesn't work and I am blitzed with pop up windows on nearly every command

Firstly I am unable to use Apple mail except for hotmail, for blueyonder, gmail or Sky as the server shows as (off line) and I have no idea how to get them on line even though I tell them to go there.
My pop up blocker doesn't work and I am blitzed with advertising windows virtually on ever command I make, one seems to be impossible to unsubscribe from.
When I am in an email with a web link the web link doesn't work and I get a window saying that I must have a pop up blocker, but if I switch it off it is no different, what does work is switching the "enable Java script off", then when I get to the web site I can't use it until I switch the java script back on.
I can't do a screen shot either full or partial, when I try it changes the web site that is on screen to another.
So what have I done that might have caused problems, downloading Yosemite seemed to be the start of the problems.  Since then I have started to install Mackeeper, after checking with a family members who should know, that MacPaw is safe.  I decided that I didn't want to pay the subscription, so went through the uninstall instructions but it comes up as a pop up with considerable regularity.
My stress levels have gone through the roof with pop ups happening so regularly and not being able to use Apple mail.o can anyone help please?

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
    Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

How can I use apple mail (linked to gmail) and get it to only do autofill on the contacts that I have in apple address book? • I use Go Daddy mail for work, and I can no longer receive mail to Apple Mail, no matter what I try. Help?

My work uses Go Daddy for our mail server at work. Up until 2 weeks ago, it was connected to Apple Mail using IMAP just fine. Then I stopped being able to receive mail to Apple mail or my phone. Completely. I've tried deleting the account and re installing, with SSL and without, different ports, everything. It just won't sync, and I can't receive mail whatsoever. It's tedious going through the browser at work, and even more not being able to get emails to my phone. I've even tried sending mail, and it shows like it's sending, then does not send. It happened out of the blue. Can someone help?

I tried something similar by adding a new mail account doing the apple id etc but it worked in that it would look for mail but no mail would come even though mail still goes to my phone I was loath to delete my original account just in case the new one did not work as well. So I guess I am a little stuck now.. I hope you can help me to sort it out.
    Thanks
