Accessing my iTunes which were done on my work computer
I registered with iTunes and loaded all my music using my work laptop when I was working in London. I am back in Australia and want to access my iTunes so that I can update my iPod. How do I do this? iTunes doesn't seem to recognise me. I am using my folks computer and I know that to have multiple users on one computer you need to create separate accounts for each person but even doing that I can't get iTunes to find me. Help!

iTunes doesn't "find" you.
iTunes is an application on your computer, just like MS Office. If you put files on one computer, they are not magically put on any other computer you use.
If you put music on one computer, it is only on that one computer. You need to transfer the music from that one to the other.

I am running an older machine OS 10.6.8. I can no longer snyc my iphone. It tells me to download the latest itune which I don't seem to be able to do. Someone told me that my OS is too old. True?
You can use the latest iTunes (11.1.3) on 10.6.8 - if Software Update doesn't provide it (which it should) then you can download it from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

My computer was totally destroyed & I do not have backup or external hard drive with my saved iTunes library from it. That was the only computer authorized to play library. I do not have an iPod or iPhone with any of that library (which has over $2K in music purchases & over 5K in songs I ripped). Will I be able to access my iTunes library when I purchase a new computer?
You should be able to access your past iTunes purchases. You'll need to re-rip your CDs See: HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

I have an iPad 2 and want iOS5 when it comes out. But I just gave my MBP to my son who is in programming and needed it desperately. Will I be able to download iOS5 without a physical connection to iTunes, which I don't have now?

TomKing_Penguin, thanks so much for getting back with me so quickly. You mentioned downloading it from a friend's computer. Is it just a matter of connecting to his comp via USB and transferring it to my iPad? How would Apple know to charge my account for the purchase?

You can transfer iTunes content and photos from one computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided beforehand indicating this will occur. -

Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done. -

What's going on with iCloud (MobileMe)? I'm able to sign in here, but I can't access mail on my Macbook Pro, iPhone, or work computer. I always get an authorization error (user-id or passwork wrong). This has been going on for almost a week now.
The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
- connecting the iPad to your Mac
- selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
- selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.

Stuttering iTunes which were fine before

I have used iTunes for a month now and everything was fine until 2 days ago when my iTunes started to stutter.
It sounds like a bad CD but these are all purchased songs which were perfectly fine before.
Any idea what this can be and how I can fix it?

BineIm not sure but I think I have the same problem. It came for when I upgraded to iTunes 7, first it sounded like a radio with a bad signal (my normal music mp3 songs) and when I got 7.0.1 it fixed that but gave my small jumps where it skips 1 second in a song just instantly, and its awful.
I dunno if you just mean stutter as when a CD is stuck and keeps playing the same 2 seconds all the time, but I just wanted to say that iTunes 6.0.5 is more safe in my opinion from my experience so far. -

You can only use one iTunes library at a time when you sync your devices. If you want to sync to a new computer now, look at this.

My iPhone turned off by itself and says to plug into iTunes and won't turn on. Is this something I can have fixed at te store? I don't have a computer with iTunes..
You should be able to restore the iPhone, just connect it to the computer and open iTunes.
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed and take a look at this, if you run in to a problem. -
I updated my iphone 5 today and when it finished it said to connect to itunes. But I have a new computer and have not synced my phone using the new computer yet. Now my phone won't even turn on. Any help would would be appreciated. Thanks
If it was showing the connect to iTunes screen it is in recovery mode and must be connect to a computer with iTunes. Recovery mode erases all content and settings so there is nothing wrong with using another computer. If you have a backup in iCloud use that to restore, or download the apps and songs you had on it.

it seems to work when you reset the port
try this only after you've made sure that any antiviral/firewall software isnt blocking iTunes and the internet connection settings are fine
1. go to windows, accessories and right click on command prompt and run as administrator
2. type in netsh winsock reset (i know sounds ridiculous but it works type WITH SPACES) and press enter
3. Message saying "winsock reset successful now reboot your computer"
4. restart your computer, and open iTunes..backup should run much smoother and faster
