Accessing my network harddisk from a Macmini

I have a network harddisk connected to my router. From my windows computer I see this network harddisk just fine in win explorer under network. I cannot figure out how to access this network harddisk from my new Macmini, do I need to mapp to it or should it just automatically show up in Finder ?
thanks

  • How can I access a network harddisk from a OS9 Computer?

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and a hard disk connected to it. I can access the disk from all MacOS X computers, but I want to use it primarily with my TAM, running MacOS 9.2.2. It is directly connected via network cable to the base station. The ideal solution would be a drive that mounts directly on my TAM's desktop, just as it does in X.
Some people told me a software called "DAVE" could help, but the OS9 versions are obviously not available anymore. Is anyone here who knows how to do the trick or where to get this old software?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Retrowurst -
Since the disk images mount okay when the drive is connected directly to the TAM, the issue would appear to not be an incompatibility of disk image vs. OS 9.
That pretty much leaves the software running the connection via IP.
    Do a little test -
    - Restart the TAM. After the desktop has loaded, and before running any other program, look in About This Computer (top of Apple menu). How much RAM is allocated for the Mac OS?
    - Then try to mount one of the disk images. Assuming the mount operation again fails, clear the error message and look in About This Computer again. How much is shown now for Mac OS?
Unlike most other control panels in OS 9, TCP/IP is not an application. That means its functions rely on using additional OS resources to do its work. And, unlike most apps, the OS has the privelege of having dynamic memory allocation, meaning the OS can increase its own allocation when needed, provided there is sufficient memory available contiguous to what it is already using.
How much physical RAM is in the machine? If you have Virtual Memory active, what is is set to?
How big are the disk images? If they are very large, it is possible the config is choking on the file size. In OS 9, firewire has a functional limit of about 2GB per file for transferring (copying) purposes. I don't know if ethernet has a similar limit.

  • How do I access a network camera from internet via 501

Please understand that I am nowhere near being a network guru and I'm even farther away from being a PIX guru.
I have a 501 PIX between my home network and the outside internet. The PIX is connected to a cable modem and pretty much keeps the same DHCP IP address as assigned by the ISP. I have an AXIS 207 IP camera connected to my home network on IP 192.168.1.11. For the sake of illustration say the address assigned by my cable ISP is 123.123.123.1.
What I need to do is to access the camera from the internet. To do that I suppose I need to add some instructions to the PIX configuration but I don't know where to start...I have never even thought about communicating with devices on my home network through the internet. Can someone please provide some pointers or better yet the commands I need to add. The next question is how do I access the camera assuming the PIX is all set up. I don't think I use the camera's address and I don't know how the ISP address would get to a specific device such as the camera - maybe appending a port number or whatever to the IP address I type when trying to access the camera from the internet?
The way the camera works on the internal network is you type in it's IP address in a browser window and the camera opens up a web page just like any url and the video is streamed to a window in the web page.
I hope I've provided enough info to understand what I'm trying to do and I would be most appreciative for any help.
    thanks

I tried installing the commands as provided but am running into issues. Here are the error messages:
    pixfirewall(config)# nat (inside) 1 0.0.0.0
    ERROR: Duplicate NAT entry
ERROR: fail to insert nat entry
    pixfirewall(config)# global (outside) 1 xxx.xxx.114.55
ERROR: xxx.xxx.114.55-xxx.xxx.114.55 overlaps with outside interface address
    pixfirewall(config)#
And here is a copy of my current configuration (including the code prior to entering the changes and the successful changes). Any Idea what needs to be done to fix things?
    thanks

  • Trying to access Mac networked printer from laptop with Windows XP

    Hi
I'm stuck: I have printer sharing enabled on my G5, printer is connected to my router; from system pref/print & fax/ my URL for the printer is as follows:
    mdns://myprinter+serial#.printer.tcp.local.
    Windows wants this format
    http://printservername/Printers/sharename/.printer
I've tried any number of permutations, and can't get the printer to show up in the printer wizard. I installed the software/drivers in the PC for the specific printer.
I'm just not a PC user, and can't figure this out!

Find the IP address of the mac in Network Prefs.
Find the Mac's queue name for that printer in Print & Fax > highlight printer > Get Info (Show Info).
On the PC, add new printer, and add the printer exactly as you were trying, filling in IP address for "printserver_name" and queue name for "share_name." Don't need the "/.printer" part. For driver, you'll need to choose a postscript printer model driver, even if that printer isn't a postscript one. The Mac will translate the postscript to the printer's language. Apple Color Laserwriter xx/xx worked well for me.

  • I can access my time capsule from my mac mini at work but my macbook can only access it from my home network. how do i fix this?

I have a Mac Mini and a MacBook, both were configured at home to access the time capsule. I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home. The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow. Accessing the same files from an older HP laptop is as fast as accessing its own hard drive. How can I speed up the accessing of these files from my apple products. One would think they would work fast and the 'windows' computers would take minutes to map the drive each time...
    Thanks for any help.

I have since moved the mini to work to use there and it has no issues looking up files on the time capsule which remains at home.
This cannot happen by magic though.. you must have configured the mini to access the TC remotely.. which method are you using, BTMM and iCloud??
The macbook whoever can only access the time capsule from within the home network. I can't seem to find what I may have done differently. Can anybody help?
How is the Macbook configured to access the TC remotely?? If you are trying to use BTMM and iCloud, then it might be a case that with the mini running the connection cannot be done by more than one computer at a time.. this is generally the case although I do not know if that is specifically true of BTMM method. Try turning off the mini and leave it off.. (off not standby)... then reboot the TC when you are at home.. and then try and connect the laptop to the TC the next morning from work. See if it is then able to capture the connection.. if so start up the mini and I suspect it now will not be able to connect.. that will prove that the TC cannot cope with two remote connections.
There also could be another factor in here. If you are accessing the laptop via the same router as the mini is on.. then actually you cannot have two users mount the same files on a TC.. from the same IP address.. as far as the TC is concerned both devices have identical IP, that is the public IP of the work location router.
If you happen to not be using BTMM then the situation is even easier.. you cannot make two different devices connect to the same network resource using the same port. That is the failing of the NAT system.. one device uses the port then it cannot be used by a second device. You will need to do some fancy footwork and use a different port.
Anyhow tell us exactly how you are doing remote access.. otherwise I am just guessing.
Not sure if your allowed to post two questions, but it's may be related. I find that accessing the files on the time capsule from the mac mini or the macbook is very slow.
Are you talking about files you are hosting on the TC?? Not Time Machine backups??
Can you tell me exactly how you are accessing the TC.. please do a test..
Copy a file to the TC and from the TC using the Laptop.. Use a single very large file, eg 1GB movie file.
Give me a read and write speed.. you can use activity monitor to give me an aprox average speed as well as peak.
Do the same test from the same computer with wireless turned off running ethernet.
Then do the tests from the mini.. same ones.. copy large file to and from the TC by ethernet and by wireless.. when using ethernet make sure wireless is off.
I strongly recommend you set IPv6 to link local only for your wireless and ethernet setup in the Mac.
    eg
Now do the test from the HP laptop and give me the results from that.
Is the issue wireless only.. ??
Then you might need to spend a bit of time fixing the wireless in the Macs.. you can run wireless diagnostics in Mavericks.

  • I have recently encountered a problem when trying to access 3G network from IPAD2.  Wireless access working fine.  When going on safari it attempts to access page and then comes up with message that 'server stopped responding'.  I have tried resetting.

I am unable to access 3G network, although wireless access is working fine.  When opening a page in safari it churns for a while and then says that server has stopped responding.  I noticed on one forum that it said something about changing brightness settings causing a conflict - coincidentally this first started happening after I had tweaked brightness.  I have tried resets etc, but still no joy.  Any ideas?

  • Access network path from within servlet

I'm trying to copy some files from a network path from within a servlet. I realize that I cannot use drive letter mappings as they are profile specific. Instead I'm trying to use the unc path. I'm getting the following error when I read the error inputstream from the process:
    String cmd = "XCOPY \\SERVER\SHARE\File.DAT C:\FOLDER /Y"
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process p = rt.exec(cmd);
p.waitFor(); //execute process and wait for it to finish
    BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
    BufferedReader error = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getErrorStream());0 File(s) copied
    Invalid drive specification
    Exit code: 4
It works from the command line, the problem I'm guessing is that Tomcat runs at as service under the SYSTEM account. What permissions should I put on the shared folder to allow this, or is it a path problem?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Starting the Tomcat service under the Administrator account fixes the problem, is there any reason I shouldn't use the Administrator account for this?

  • Unable To See Network Drive from outside Home Network..even when using DynDNS

    Hi
I have just got a Freecom Media storage Network Center which I have attached to my WRT150N router.
I am attemting to permit access to authorised users to files on the drive via the internet (presumably via ftp).
Here is what I have done:
Swiitched on DynDNS on the web admin page in the router (used DynDNS.com free service.
Obtained a user addess which is middle-earth.dyndns-home.com from DynDNS, which is linked to my Virgin Media IP
Switched on Port Range forwarding with
    Ports 20-21 as ftp
    Port 80 as http
    Port 57 as DNS
    Selected "both protocols"
Set the IP address to route to 192.168.1.42 - (this is the IP address which the web based software for the Network Drive reports as.
However the configuration of the TCP/IP protocol in PC attached by LAN cable to the router is "Obtain an IP address automatically" (i.e. dynamic?).  If I change these settings and specify static IP addresses   will I not muck up internet connection to Virgin Media.
what I was hoping to acheive was typing     ftp:// middle-earth.dyndns-home.com
in the address bar would let me see the network drive from anywhere!
I have tried using DNS pinging on Ports 20, and 21 but that tells my ports are closed.  i have also tried switching off my software firewall (Kaspersky) and the router firewall, but this does nothing.
What have I done wrong or no done!!
    Thanks

I think the problem is solved.
The Freecom device needs to use a different part of its interface to be assigned a static IP address, which I have now done.  At my last try it was visible from two independent views outside of my network.
On another front, I am appalled at Linksys or Cisco, who are not prepared to advice on getting more from their produicts if they are 'out of warranty'.  The online chat tech said I could ring an 0871 premium line number in the UK.  When I rang that, I was told as tthat as my unit is not faulty and was out of warranty I would have to use their pay per incident  service.
That is not a way to deal with customers.  When it comes to upgrading or replacing network equipment, I will look to a provider who is interested in their customers.

  • VPN Clients can't access DMZ Network

    Hello,
I will try to describe my problem as best as possible. The title says VPN clients cannot access DMZ network, but that is not exactly the problem, the situation is this, a group of users are using an actual 10.x network where they have their servers and pretty much everything. The users must be relocated into a new network, the 172.16.x.  In a point in time they will not have to use 10.x anymore, but meanwhile, they need access to that network.
I have an ASA 5510 as default gateway for the new network (172.16.x.x), one interface e0/0 connected to the outside (internet), interface e0/1 to the inside and other interface connected to the actual 10.x (which I call DMZ), so basically I am using the ASA as a bridge using NAT to grant access to the users in the network 172.16.x to the resources in the 10.x network while the migration is completed.
All the users must use the path to the internet thru the ASA using the NAT overload to the outside interface and I put in place a NAT policy to 10.x to allow access to the 10.x network only when the internal users 172.16.x try to reach that path and so far, everything is working just fine for the internal users.
Now for some reason, when I do VPN, the VPN clients cannot reach the 10.x network, even when they are supposed to be in the internal network (because they are doing VPN right?) .
I have enabled split tunneling with NAT exempt the 172.16 network and I am not sure if that is causing the problem, because when I trace from my PC the 172.16.16.1 address using the VPN I get the proper route path, but when I try to reach 10.x, my PC is using its default gateway and not the VPN gateway which has a route to 10.x.
I’m not even sure if what I am trying to do is possible, I want VPN users to be able to access a 10.x network using NAT overload with the Interface of the ASA plugged to the 10.x network, just like the internal users are doing right now.
Any help or advice will be highly appreciated.

Allow clients to access DMZ, add exempt NAT rule, add both the "same-security-traffic" thru cli. Please give it a try.
