Accessing physical floppy disk drive from Windows 8.1 host machine to Windows XP SP3 hyper-v?

Hi there!
Could someone help up me? I just wanted to ask if it's possible for a hyper-v to access a physical "floppy diskette" drive?
Here's my setup: I have a Windows 8.1 as my host and Windows XP SP3 as the virtual machine. I would need to access the contents of the physical floppy diskette drive from the Windows XP SP3 vm. This is needed, because, currently our customer is still using
floppy disk drives, to most of their in-house applications. I tried to open Drive A: inside Windows XP SP3 VM while the physical diskette from the Windows 8.1 is inserted. But then again, it cannot directly access the contents. Also, I tried to use "virtual
floppy drives" and copy the files from the diskette. But for some reason, their applications do not support it. I did check device manager in Windows XP SP3 vm, but i cannot see the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" option inside the VM.
Please help!!! Thank you!
All the best,
MS CAMPer

HI Carey, thanks for this, But this is under System Center Virtual Machine Manager. I already saw this a while ago.
Anyway, is there a way for Windows XP VM to access a physical floppy diskette drives inserted to Windows 8.1 host machine? I dont intend to use Virtual floppy disks. Only Physical ones.
Please please. Need your help guys! :( Thank you!

...Called it a roaming network.  Wireless mode is create a wireless network. I have checked allow this network to be extended.  Probably need to uncheck that?
Yes, that option should be deselected as it only pertains to when both routers are interconnected by wireless. Since you have a roaming network, they of course, would be interconnected by Ethernet.
The other important settings for a roaming network are:
Each router must have a unique station name. For the AirPort, this would be called its Base Station Name. I believe the default station name for Linksys routers is: linksys
Each router must broadcast a wireless network with an identical Network Name. For the Linksys, Network Name is the same as its SSID.
Each router wireless network must use the same Wireless Security type and password. The Linksys WRT-54G is capable of up to WPA2 Personal. If you have it set to this level of security, the AirPort should be at the same setting.
Make sure that each router is not on the same Radio Channel for the 2.4 GHz radio. In the US, there are basically only three non-overlapping channels: 1, 6, or 11. Set each so that they don't use the same channel but use of those three choices.

  • Can a T60 (with completely zero-ed hard disk) install a hard disk drive from a CD? Or floppy only?

    Hi
Yikes - I am in deep trouble !
Following a virus attack, I have zero-ed my Thinkpad T60's hard disk (using KillDisk), but now when I try to install WindowsXP Pro from a CD, but although it can read the CD and does get so far... it says it cant read the hard disk !
I was hoping to install the correct driver (see below) but now I can't find my floppy disk drive for my T60.
Is it possible for DOS to read off a DVD or a CD?
I have tried to download a file which I am hoping is the correct driver

    Cheers

I have an HP F1059C External Floppy Disk Drive by TEAC that came with a (really) old HP laptop. I have some old research saved to floppy disks I need to access.  Is there a cable that will convert my External drive to a USP port on my present  HP laptop with Windows 8?  Do  I need a new driver?

Thank you Dean Huffy. Yes, I recall it was an omnibook.  I loved the compactness of the thing.  And it had enough heft one could throw it like a brick at someone's head if they made fun of it.   Your advice alone is worth the $30 and elegant in its simplicty.
If you have the patience, I would add another permutation to my situation.   After the Omnibook's monitor went dark the files were tranferred via it's floppy drive to its desktop successor, for which I ordered a redundant floppy drive for that purpose.  There it rested, with some updates, but unbidden for the past five years until the desktop crashed and I replaced it with the present laptop.  I took the two units to my local computer repair person who neatly transferred most if not all the contents of the former to the latter, EXCEPT THAT, when I try to open the one, much coveted file, I get a message "cannot convert password protected documents".  Okay, so had so much regard for the file I put a password on it, but I can't even get to a point where I can enter a password; and following the Windows advice to "Open and Repair" seems to have no impact.
The bottom line is, I am most grateful for your advice on how to recover the file as of 2001 from an old back-up floppy , but would be even more grateful if I can recover the file through its 2009 updates now on my harddrive (and perhaps a back-up CD.)
    Thank you, again.

after writing an html report on a floppy disk and removing it, labview shows an error message window: disk not present.
My pc is based on asus motherboard. Labview 7 and Windows 2000 sp4 installed.
The error message continue also if i stop the application that generated report on a: .
I've got this problem only on a pc: on other machines i don't have this problem (Labview only continues to access floppy but it doesn't show any window).
Find below an example: first press the button to create a report on a: then remove the floppy, after 30-35 sec i've got the error message

    Hi,
I tried your vi: I don't get any error message after removing the disk but LV7 keeps on accessing the drive at regular intervals even if you stop the vi and close it!!! This is not supposed to happen.
The only way to stop it is exit LV7.
If you don't use the file dialog and you wire a full path, you don't get any problem.
I also created a very simple vi that conditionally writes a text file on a: and I got the same behaviour.
This problem occurs only with LV7, I tried the same examples in LV6.1 and everything was fine.
If anybody wants to try I attach this simple example,

  • Verify physical hard disk drive health MCS 7825-H3 that installed CUCM inside it

    Hi Everyone,
I have Cisco MCS 7825-3 that installed CUCM ver 6.1.1 inside it. A few days ago the system was crashed and have been recovered. And the symtomp why the system crashed is because corrupted hard disk drive. Now the system is running well.
I want to verify the health status of hard disk drive MCS 7825. The logical drive is RAID 1 with 2 chunks (channel 0,1 and channel 0,2). So that i did the test to shut down the cucm and unmount on of the physical hard disk drive. After that i power on the server and running the system with just 1 hard disk drive (example just channel 0,1 and after verify channel i do the same task with channel 0,2). With just 1 hard disk drive if i show hardware in cucm cli , it showed that status of logical drive is degraded. But the system can run well (IP Phone registered and can do pbx features). And after do verify test with 1 hard disk drive, i mount the physical hard disk drive again so that the system running with all of hard disk drive mounted (2 chunks).
At first it showed in cucm cli that status of logical drive is degraded, but with current operation rebuild (indicated RAID 1 is rebuild again by the system). After up to 1 hour the process finished and the status of logical drive is optimal again.
The question i wanna ask, is there any method to know if the health of physical hard disk drive of MCS good or not beside the task i have done ?
Maybe we can show in the BIOS or cucm cli because i didnt find diagnose of physical drive in cucm cli but it can diagnose status of RAID, hard disk space and list file in hard disk drive.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Floppy Disk Drive for Mavericks

    Hello
Does anyone know of an FDD for a mavericks mac? I would like to create boot disks for an old mac. Is this a good method to consider? I am not sure how else to go about this. If there is an alternative, whatever it might be, please let me know.
I apologise for posting here but this relates to older machines in a way.
    Thanks in advance.

The original system for a PowerBook 2400c/180 was 7.6.1. Other supported systems (according to Apple's technical specifications) were 8, 8.1, 8.5, 8.6 and 9. You would need to purchase an appropriate Apple system CD. Ensure that it is a retail disc (for all models), not a disc for a certain (other) machine.
You can use one of the Apple CD-ROM drives above, providing that you have the proper HDI-30 cable. See the manual for details about connecting SCSI devices and about booting from a CD.
If necessary, and if the already installed operating system is working (and you can navigate the Japanese menus), you should at least be able to create a Disk Tools PPC floppy on the PowerBook. Use the Disk Copy 6.3.3 program (the Make a Floppy command under the Utilities menu) for this. I assume that you have the external floppy disk drive for the PowerBook.
    www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html
    http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English -North_American/Macintosh/System/Mac_OS_8.1_Update/Disk_Tools_PPC.img.bin
    http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English -North_American/Macintosh/Utilities/Disk_Copy/Disk_Copy_6.3.3.smi.bin
One may also want to try to modify a Disk Tools PPC to hold CD-ROM software, thus allowing a CD to be read when the computer is running from the floppy disk system.
Additionally, since the computer in question has PC Card slots, an inexpensive PC Card adapter for CompactFlash and a CompactFlash memory card can be very useful for file transfers. In certain PowerBook models, such a CompactFlash card (reformatted to Mac) can even act as a startup disk (if it has an appropriate system folder).

  • Solaris 8 Floppy Disk Drive Problem

Hi to all!, I need help with Solaris 8 10/00 Intel. Ive installed it and everything works fine, but I cant make the system to recognize the floppy disk drive, everytime I do a "volcheck", it just ignores it. Inside CDE happens the same thing, when I do check the floppy, nothing happens. Any clue?. Im using an AMD Athlon 700, with VIA KT133 chipset. Thank a lot!.

Try "ftp" + your email address. (but "anonymous" works, too).
Perhaps a typo or there was some other temporary problem with the
    web site.
The K7M boards have different bios release numbers, it seems the
first bios release had a revision number of 1007:
    ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/slota/k7m
Do you have to boot using the DCA floppy for some specific reason?
(for example to install using the >32GB ide-drive patch; network install
and no local cdrom drive; El-Torito CDROM boot does not work at all)?
Or do you have the system already installed by booting from CDROM,
and you just want to get usable floppy/serial/parallel ports under
solaris 8? In that case have a look at http://www.tools.de/solaris/via/. I've written a small driver that attaches to the VIA
    686A SouthBridge PCI/ISA device and it re-enables the Super-I/O
controller on that chip. The Super-I/O chip is disabled due to the
solaris ACPI bug and is the reason all these on-board devices do
not work under solaris 8. According to
http://www.asus.com.tw/products/Motherboard/SlotA/k7m/spec.html, the K7M uses the same SouthBridge chip, so my driver should work for
    this board, too.

I need a floppy disk drive for old 3 1/2" disks. I have a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4 operating system. What external drive will for for me?

    Hi,
Providing that the old 3.5" floppies are 1.44 MB HD disks, you should be able to use a USB floppy drive.
However, if the disks are 2DD/DSDD in the 800K Mac format a USB drive is not going to work. In this case you would need a suitable semi-old Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive as an intermediary.

    Hi,
I have been searching the web to find out the best way/place in which to load Captivate 4 on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Seems some people have issues with recording, others don't. I have Windows XP mode on my machine.
My question is... what's the best way to load Captivate 4 on Windows 7 - should I install to Windows 7 and see how it goes. Or should I install under Windows XP mode?
    Thank you!

Try running Cp4 in WinXp compatibility mode on Win7.  Also make sure
you're set to Run as Administrator.
I run Cp4 on Win7 without issues.  But other users report similar problems
to yourself.  In the end, it may or may not work for you because Adobe has
never claimed Cp4 was compatible with Vista or Win7 64bit.

  • Accessing floppy disk in Solaris 10 u5 VirtualBox Virtual Machine

    Hi,
I cannot access my host floppy drive from my Solaris 10 u5 x86 64-bit VM on a WinXP host using VirtualBox 2.1.0. When I select "Mount Floppy A: from the VM window, the floppy is apparently mounted, as I can see disk activity. However, no floppy icon comes up on my Desktop, there is no /floppy, and I can't otherwise find the "mounted" drive.
I can access CD-ROMs using my VM with no problem: a CD-ROM icon appears on my Desktop.
Can anyone else using Solaris 10 as a guest on a Windows host access their floppy drives?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have asked this question in the Vbox forums, but evidently only a couple of users use SUN Vbox for Solaris guests, which I find remarkable.
    Thanks.

I finally got the Solaris 10 VM to recognize the floppy. ACPI must be enabled for the guest. See:

I need to configure the browser to deny access to local disks under Linux (e.g. file://usr/local/data) I also need to prevent my users from using about: and file: in order to meet corporate security requirements.
I have exploded the omni.jar file, and looked for some time. Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

    Hi
    +". . . my 3TB RAID 5 that they're using has become rather full at this point (down to 200MB). . ."+
I think the problem you're currently seeing starts (and probably ends) here. Regardless of what your data comprises of the general rule of thumb is to make sure you keep at least 10% of free disk space for any hard drive let alone a RAID. Most people would generally recommend 15% for a RAID 5. A rough calculation based on your 3TB RAID would mean you should keep at least 300GB free. You're well below that unless 200MB is a typo? I'm surprised the whole thing has not ground to a halt?
Video Capture, Editing and Playback in a network home environment is always going to place a considerable strain on any network unless you've prepared the ground first. For example 60 seconds of RAW Video is roughly 200MB in size. Multiply this for a classroom of 16 and that's a lot of data. Even if you're not using hi-def you're still talking a lot of data.
There are better ways of doing this.
