Accessing Recovery Mode: Zen Vision M

I'm trying to access the recovery mode on my Zen Vision M (I'm experiencing the 'player not detected' syndrome). I followed the instructions by holding the power button toward the power symbol, and then gently poking a paper clip into the little reset hole at the bottom. The instructions say to do this til the creative logo appears, but it doesnt--the screen just stays blank. Am I not waiting long enough? I didnt think it would take much time. The battery level is at about 50%--should I recharge it all the way first?
Thanx for any and all help!!

I checked the device manager and the following message is what I get:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 9)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I did the check for solutions but nothing came up

  • Accessing recovery mode with no power

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I can't find the answer in the forums.
I know how to enter recovery mode when I have power on my Creative V Plus, but how do I do it without power? I can't charge the player because it automatically enters rebuilding library mode and freezes. I can't enter recovery mode when the player is connected to the PC. Help!

Accessing recovery mode with no power; Your battery will need to be charged in order for you use the the functions in the recovery mode. A wall charger would solve that & you will not need it to be connected to the computer. The wall charger for the Zen Micro,Micro Photo,Zen are ok to use with it.http://cgi.ebay.com/CREATIVE-AC-Wall...em300300546789

  • Can't access Recovery Mode on old Mac

I've had an old Mac lying around unused for the last few years.
It is currently running (from "About this Mac")
    OS X version 10.5.8
    Dual 1.3 GHz PowerPC G4
2 MB L3 cache per processor
    768 MB SDRAM
    It's a Power Mac G4
I want to completely wipe this computer so it's in absolute factory settings with nothing left behind by me, so I can sell it for a small price and possibly take a couple of parts for a build I'm thinking about.
I Tried the Restart, Command + R method of accessing Recovery Mode multiple times with no success. It takes around 30 seconds to boot each time so I'm not missing the "window" to do it, I think. (I beggin the Key Combo when I hear the chime)
i don't have any disks for this computer as it was pre-owned, at least 5 years ago, from a guy I've lost touch with. I don't want to back up any files.
can anyone help me reset this dusty old calculator?

    Man in despair,
The pre-2006 PowerMacs this foru serves cannot run OS 10.6.8. What Mac to you have? We can get you moved to the proper forum for your Mac.
Never be hesitant to start a new thread. When you tag onto another, especially one like this that appears to be about a different Mac model, you dilute the help the original poster deserves. It is also confusing to the rest of use and some very knowlegeable helpers here will not respond to a tag-on (also known as a "thread-jack.")
So fast help require you to make a new thread in teh forum that matches you Mac model.

  • Why can't I access recovery mode?

My iMac (2010, i3, 10.8.2) began running sluggishly last night. My sone turned it off and now I can't even boot into recovery mode. I have the Apple logo and the loading circle showing. Earlier attempts to access internet recovery and recovery resulted in a frozen screen. I'm beginning to think the hard drive is shot, even though I hear it spinning.

You didn't state how your attempting to boot into Recovery mode, if you haven't tried the following then please do:
When you hear the start up tone, hold down the OPTION key until you can choose the Recovery Partition. If your system can't see it then there is a fair chance  you have a damaged HD. Do you happen to also run MS Windows on your machine in Boot Camp, if so then you may have another issue and will need to post in the Boot Camp forum.

  • Cannot access recovery mode - N

Just as the title says. Player will spuradically turn on and play but usually will not, in fact it rarely will play. And when it does, if I shut it off and try to turn it back on, it will not. However if I plug the player into the computer without holding the power button it will always work, with or without the battery. If I hold the power button while connecting the unit it will do nothing(I've held it for a full minute even)until I release it, and then it just comes up as a mass storage device. No new hardware, nothing. I've tried on the 4 desktop stations running various Windows versions and my one laptop and they all produce the same results. So basically I have a "thumb dri've" that requires a cable.
Any ideas? It seems there have been quite a few problems with the N200's and them acting a bit odd. And it also seems like they forgot recovery mode on my player unless there is something I am doing wrong.

    drasticdesignz,
If recovery mode has been done before in the system, the new hardware wizard will not be prompting again. You can check this by having the player enter recovery mode via the usual steps and then go to device manager and see if the player are in recovery mode or Mass storage device mode.

  • IMac 7,1 running 10.5.8 can not access recovery mode, during update to 10.6.8 kernel panic

    Good day everybody.
I'm facing next issue. Having iMac v.7,1 running 10.5.8. EFI and SMC firmware update is done.
Trying to update to 10.6.8 thru bootable USB drive. After rebooting showing kernel panic. Made Apple Hardware Test (long one, took around 90 mins) no issues found. Trying booting in Single User Mode, showing "0x7" error.
My attempts to boot in Recovery Mode (cmd+r) completely ignored. Im not sure if there is one.
I tried to Boot in Recovery Mode via Bootable USB with 10.6.8 on it, holding "option" (alt) button, two scenarios, other complete ignore and keep booting to login screen OR again same Kernel Panic.
    Guys need some help.
Im ready to change parts, but no idea was that HD or RAM or whatever else.
    Some photos attached.
    Thanks to everybody in advance.

Recovery mode is only available in Lion (10.7) and later OSs. You can only upgrade to Snow Leopard by booting with an SL disc. You can get it from http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    27" i7 iMac (Mid 2011) refurb, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), ML & SL, G4 450 MP w/Leopard, 9.2.2

  • Can't access recovery mode in Creative

I want to update my firmware for my Creative Zen. I press and hold the play/pause button while starting the player. I should release this at the moment I see the creative logo. The problem is that I never see this logo. The screen is blank while the player is booting and the first thing I see is the ZEN logo. Why doesn't the creative logo show up?

I figured it out. Apparently the player has a cold start and a warm start. If I turn of the player and wait several hours, then I get the creative logo. When I turn it off and (almost) immediatly turn it on again, it goes directly to the ZEN logo, to speed up the restart.

  • Player frozen & cannot access recovery mo

Hi there,This is the second time my Zen sleek photo has frozen. The first time the PC would not recognise the player when docked but recovery mode worked & i got it going again. This time it does'nt allow me to access recovery mode (frozen screen comes up) but player is recognised by PC when docked. I have reinstalled firmware & reformatted using media explorer but all to no avail. Is there any options left rather than a return to base Thanks,Lenny.

  • Start Yosemite in recovery mode

In preveous versions of OS X you could access recovery mode (partition) by pressing alt-key during startup. Now in the latest os this partition is not present (at least on my mac).
Why is that, and how do I go about to create it?

I have the same.  The partition is probably there but hidden.  To verify hold down the command and R keys when booting up.  Recovery should start and then show you the screen that gives you several choices for recovery.  If this is what shows then you still have a recovery partition.  If Internet recovery starts then it is missing.  I have updated several machines and the recovery partition is now hidden.

  • Can't access recovery or internet recovery

My MacBook pro (late-2009) has the dreaded question mark folder icon when I try to start it up. I had this problem a year ago and fixed it using recovery and repair disk.
For some reason, I can't access recovery mode OR internet recovery (even while plugged into the internet via cable). The only different response I get from the computer is simply a grey screen and the cursor when I boot up while pressing option.
I had been having problems with the computer 'forgetting' the time when the battery went completely flat, which I've heard has something to do with the startup disk?
Any advice would be great as I don't have the ££ to get this fixed or get a new one. I can't find any other discussion on here that mention having no access at all to recovery mode.

I believe the Apple Stores have a network recovery image available to them when they run diagnostics there.
For data recovery, you have a couple of options - either connect the Mac to another Mac using target mode (you'd need to use a Firewire cable, possibly with a Thunderbolt adaptor if the other Mac is newer), or remove the hard drive, put it into an enclosure or dock, and attempt access that way. If it's just the system folders that's damaged, you may be able to effect access to your user files. If the drive itself is physically ailing, or the directory is too greatly damaged, you may be out of luck.
If your MBP is mid-2009, it came with 10.5, and you should be able to buy a generic retail 10.6.3 DVD (check Amazon, etc) to get a new system up and running. (The next model, mid-2010, would have come with a custom build of 10.6.3 and you'd need the model-specific disks for that since the retail 10.6.3 won't work, I believe.)

  • Zen Vision:M Problem (Firmware + Recovery Mode) (please un-sti

(apologies on the sticky, i misclicked!)
I've had my Zen Vision:M 30GB for over a year now, and I absolutely love it! Unfortunately, while on my New Years vacation this past week I accidentally dropped it after it tangled in my headphones. Immediately afterwards, I started getting the "recovery mode" problem that seems to crop up. Unable to get past this(it booted only once every million-or-so tries), I decided to use the "MP3 recovery tool" from Creative's site
Unfortunately, it froze up halfway through, and now is giving me a "Hard Disk error". I tried to reformat, and it seemed to wipe it clean...but now it wont even recognize it when I plug it into my USB port to put in new firmware! (The PC recognizes it, but not the Firmware installation)
    I don't know what else I can do....any ideas/help, please?
(I looked at Creative's support pages, but they only deal with Warranty repairs, which I don't have as it was a gift.) Can they repair/replace a broken non-warranty player, and if so, for how much?
Or is there another solution I haven't tried yet?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Customer Support can also arrange out of warranty repairs, and can advise on the price.

  • Creative Zen Vision 30Gb Stuck in Recovery Mode, Freezes when trying to deal with Firmware

My Zen Vision is stuck in Recovery Mode. The PC recognizes it but it comes up as 50mb Storage Media. When you touch Reload Firmware or Format All, it freezes and you have to pull the battery out to shut it off. I don't know what to do. Charges fine, never said anything about HARDWARE issues, just can't get it to not freeze when trying to load firmware back onto it.

I did the same thing, my unit was working perfectly.
I just read that these players have a laptop 2.5 hard dri've installed in the unit. If this is true, the next chance I get, I will take my unit apart (40 gig nomad zen xtra) and see if I can reinstall the firmware directly. It's probably what they do at the repair sho

  • Zen Vision M 30GB is stuck in Recovery Mode

Hi, I have a Zen Vision M 30GB that is stuck in Recovery Mode. I have tried ' Cleaning ', ' Formatting ' and ' Reload Firmware ' but none of my 3 computers in which it was previously used recognise the device. The computers have Win Xp Home, Win xP Pro and Win 7 Pro, 64-bit. I could get it to connect once to my Win 7 and I set the firmware down to .4 ( I think), as I have read that latest Firmware .20 does not recognise some of the new batteries with 400 mAh and 700mAh batteries. I have tried the MP3 Recovery Tool, Creative Wizard tool but none work. Would appreciate any suggestion. I have read extensi'vely the postings about Zen Vision M in the ABIT (anythingbutipod) Forums, but no luck in re-loading the firmware. TIA, MPM

I had installed .4. and in the Recovery Mode, it dispalys v0.0.6. I have Creative Zen Vision M Media Explorer installed in both, my Xp Home desktop and Xp Pro ( not 64-bit) in my laptop. I will check which version of WMP is installed in my Xp systems.
On many occasions, all 3 computers (including Win & Pro 64-bit) signalled ' Un-recognised USB Device many times but now nothing happens and I can operate the touch pad of the Zen even when it is connected to the computers !!
