Accessing same time capsule data from different computers

I have been using my Time Capsule to back up several Mac's, and everything is fine. But I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and after several days, wanted to upload (download? sync?) my iTunes library from one computer to the other. I cannot find a way for the new computer to 'see' the files from my old computer.

Time Machine is not designed to allow that.
And iTunes is not designed to allow you to do that either.
You should visit the iTunes discussion area to learn how to move/copy/share iTunes libraries between computers.

  • Access the Time Capsule HDD from g and an n network?

    Hi there
I reckon that this Time Capsule is great idea and I look forward to buying one.
I have a MacBook Pro (802.11n) and a Windows laptop (with a 802.11g adapter). I will plug a USB printer into the Time Capsule.
I want both my laptops to be able to access the Time Capsule HDD. I understand that if I want to maximise the connection speed for my MacBook I'll need to run seperate 802.11n network (for my MacBook) and a 802.11g network for my Windows laptop. Otherwise a shared b/g/n network will just run at g speed.
My question: If I do run the two seperate networks, will both laptops be able to share the HDD and printer?
Also, will the two laptops be able to see each other across the two networks?
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers

You're right about the 802.11n PC Card for the Windows laptop.
Seeing as the 802.11n is still in draft, how will I know if the PC Card I purchase will work with the Time Capsule?
If is merely a case of getting any Belkin, NetGear etc. 802.11n PC Card for the laptop and assuming it'll work?
Is there a compatibility list somewhere?
I really appreciate your help on this one.
    Cheers!

  • How do I access my Time Capsul data on a PC?

I just got my MacBook stole and I need to access the data stored on my Time Capsul but I dont know how to do that on a PC running on Windows.
    Thanks

If the Mac data is stored as part of Time Machine backups, you will not be able to access it from a PC. On the other hand, if you were using your Time Capsule as a NAS device, you should be able to access any files stored from any network device, regardless if it runs OS X, Windows, or Linux.
If you situation is the latter than please check out this Apple Support article for the details. (Note: Although the article references an AirPort Extreme Base Station, it still apples for a Time Capsule.)

  • How do i access my Time capsule HD from my PC

    hi
I have just set up a new Time Capsule, how do i acess the HD on the time capsule from my PC?
    Thanks,
    Joel

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
As the Time Capsule's drive is a network drive, you can access to the Time Capsule's hard drive without any problem.
In a PC, open a Windows Explorer window and select Network in the sidebar, so you should see your Time Capsule. Just double-click it and you will access to its drive. Also, you should be able to access to it from My Computer

  • I can no longer access my Time Capsule Data

I have a 2TB TimeCapsule connected wirelessly to my home Network via an Airport Express.
I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro.  I keep my documents on there, so I can access them from either device.
Today when I tried to access my documents frm the iMac, it wouldn't let me, and just kept closing down Finder.  It works fine from my MacBook Pro still though?
The only change I made to my setup in the last 24 hours is I connected my iMac to the Airport Express via an Ethernet cable to allow faster streaming.  I have tried going back to wireless connection as it was before, but it still doesn't allow me to access my files.  Interestingly Time Machine Backup from my iMac is still working?
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks

Sad to report that unplugging and re-plugging the hard drive did not help. I had high hopes!
Un-mounting and re-mounting the external hard drive didn't help either.
I've moved on to deleting the time machine preferences per another suggestion in another thread - still no luck.
I continue to get the Making Backup Disk Available warning in the Time Machine Preferences window as the little progress bar spins for 20+ minutes. The whole time, I can hear the external hard drive clicking and chirping like it's being accessed- then the Time Machine preference window reports the same past warning: *The backup disk image “/Volumes/300GB BACKUP/myname’s Mac mini_00254bb40536.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error 109)*
Off to cruise some more forums for a possible fix - suggestions continue to be welcome!

  • Transferring Time Capsule Data from an old Time Capsule to a new one?

How do I transfer the data from my old 500GB time capsule to my new 2TB time capsule.  I just installed Lion as well.  I have the time capsules connected with the Ethernet cable.  I can see both of them in the finder.  When I open the Disk Utility I can only see the old time capsule so it is not possible to drag the new time capsule to the destination field in the restore tab.  Please help.  I would like to have my existing time machine backup on my new Time Capsule.
    Thank you in advance.
FYI Time Machine 101 is not any help.

See option 2 half way down this page.

  • HT1178 How can I access the Time Capsule HD from my PC?

    Hi,
I bought the Time Capsule because I thought it was a easy way of creating a small home network with a shared HD and printer. The wireless setup was easy but everything else doesn't seem that straight forward. I soon found out that I could not just plug my USB printer. You actually need a WPS printer which was not clear in the product description. Anyhow, just need a new printer.
The main issue for me is being able to share files between my devices (Apple and non-Apple) as well as share the HD. I cannot find a way of configuring my PC or TC so that I can access the TC HD from my PC. Has anyone been able to configure that?
    Thanks

You can plug a printer in via USB.. but not all printers work.. nor does airprint . but that has nothing to do with the Apple router.. that is how apple designed iOS.
    What printer do you have?
Getting USB printer working can be tricky because by its nature you are networking a printer designed for local connection.. not networking.
To share printers and file sharing load the airport utility for windows into the windows computer.. that includes bonjour for windows which is helpful for sharing of apple network devices.. and there is a disk agent.
That might get you in without anything else.
No luck remember windows does not work well with the names apple uses by default.. make sure all names on the TC conform with windows networking.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
In windows explorer address bar type
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress (where clearly you replace the TCname with actual name or the TCIPaddress with the actual IP address).
If that still fails... then you have firewall issues.. turn off all firewalls in the PC .. there can be several running.
And make sure the PC is set to home as location . .not office or public.

  • Can you access files and edit them from different computers in Creative Cloud?

I want to understand the workflow we can have. We have three computers and would like to access and edit the same files in Creative Cloud. Can you do this? I understand I may have to purchase two licenses but will this give everyone access to the same files and able to edit and upload files.
We do this in Dropbox now but with Creative Cloud is sounds like all I can do is share a file for them to comment on, not edit?

    Hi Olivia,
With Creative Cloud, file editing comes in via downloading Adobe applications with a Creative Cloud membership. While you cannot edit within Creative Cloud, you can share files with your coworkers which can then be downloaded, edited in an Adobe application, and reuploaded to the Cloud.
Be aware that although you can have two computers activated on the same Creative Cloud membership, you cannot use the same application on two computers simultaneously. A Creative Cloud membership is for one user that can be used on one or more computers.
You may want to look into the Creative Cloud Team Ready, that targets work environments like yours. You can read more about Team Ready here.
Hope this helped clarify your questions!

  • Can I print both wireless and USB to same HP 8625 printer from different computers?

I Just installed a new HP Officejet Pro 8625 printer which is connected to my desktop computer via a hard wire USB connection.  I also have a separate PC which is used for connecting to my Wi-Fi network.  Can I have the same printer connected to one computer via a hardwire USB connection and enabled to perform wireless printing from another computer?

  • How can i exclude my macbook backup on time capsule from other imac connected to same time capsule?

we have several mac connected to same time capsule, how can i exclude one macbook backup from all the others mac accessing same time capsule?
    thanks

Not exactly clear what you mean.. the TC will keep each Mac backup in its own sparsebundle.. it does this automagically.. The backups are not mixed.. all are kept separate.
Or is this a security question.. you don't want people looking at the contents of the backup?
You can increase the security of the TC.. but it is too late.. you should have done it when first installed. If you go to the setup you can change security (Secure Shared Disks) by selecting with Accounts.. the problem is you will lose access to all the existing backups. You really need to do a clean start.. create accounts for all the users and start again.
Also note security is not a big feature here.. anybody with physical access to the TC can press the reset for 1sec and get access. It is a home device not a business device.

  • Access Time Capsule disk from iOS device (iPad, iPhone)

My intended goal is to use Time Capsule disk as cloud replacement for MobileMe iDisk which is being discontinued in June.
I've done Time Capsule 7.6.1 update with iCloud support, entered my iCloud account settings, and authorized disk access via WAN. Everything appears to be configured properly as I can access my Time Capsule disk on Mac computers from outside my home network. How do I access this disk on iPhone and iPad?

I use FileBrowser app. It works. Their latest version is much easier to configure than earlier versions. You need to turn file sharing on and SMB on your time capsule disk.
I use the time capsule disk to store a few files which I never want to be on my iPhone or iPad, but do want access to them. They are not backed up on the time capsule but since they also exist on my Mac, they are backed up from there.

  • I have 2 different MacBooks (owned by 2 people) connected to my Time Capsule. I want to use the Time Capsule to back up both MacBooks separately from each other. Can one person access the hard drive of the other person, on the same Time Capsule?

I have 2 different MacBooks (owned by 2 people) connected to the same Time Capsule over a wifi network. I want to use the Time Capsule to back up both MacBooks separately from each other. Can one person access the hard drive of the other person, on the same Time Capsule? Is there a way to ensure that the files on the 2 laptops are kept private from each other? Thanks!

If someone really wants to do something, it won't take them long to find out how to do it.

Security on a Time Capsule is a bit like installing a lock on a tent. It will keep the honest folks out, but probably not the others.
