Accessing Security Cameras Remotely

I have security cameras attached to a DVR. The DVR is plugged into my Airport Extreme. I have a static IP address from my ISP. I am vaguely aware that I need to assign the DVR a local IP address and use port forwarding to access the DVR remotely. However, I have had zero luck getting this to work.
Help!

There are two basic steps for configuring port mapping: 1) Assigning a static (or DHCP-reserved) IP address to the host device ... in this case the security camera, and 2) Configure port mapping on the router.
AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the camera.
Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC hardware address of the camera>
o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address to be reserved for the camera>
o Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address you reserved in the previous step>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
o Click "Continue"

  • Cant access security cameras with ea6200 router

I have everythig hooked up. port forwarding is enabled on port 80. i can only access my cameras from within my network. if i go outside my network i cant get in.
    please help.
its like i cnt get passed the firewall

What are things you tried so far in accessing your camera remotely? Have you tried to type your public/WAN ip address and the port number (ex:  http://68.12.123.3:80) on the address bar? Try to verify as well which port is needed for your camera. There might be something else other than 80.

  • Viewing my security camera remotely

I have a MacBook Pro in the City, and an iBook G4 in the country. I have installed a security camera in the country, and I would like to view it while I'm in the City. But I am unable to logon to my country computer.
I also purchased SecuritySpy software, which helps to implement this. But it seems to serve up live stream only on my local network, not onto the internet. Have already checked with developer for help with this. All settings on this software are nominal.
The larger issue seems to be that my computer (cam notwithstanding) can't be found on the internet either. When I type in the address for the country computer, it does not appear.
Maybe I don't know how to make this happen......
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Looking at the SecuritySpy web site, it seems that remote viewing feature uses port 8000.
You will need to configure the router you use in your country home so it forwards port 8000 from the internet to your iBook G4's port 8000.
How you setup port forwarding depends on the make and model of your router in the country home. Some Google searching for "make/model Port Forward" will most likely find instructions for your router.
If you do not have a router, and your iBook G4 is connected directly to your broadband modem AND your broadband modem is not also a router, then skip the Port Forwarding setup, and go to the next step.
To make your life easier, you may want to get a Dynamic DNS name which will make finding your country home's internet connection much easier. You can get a free Dynamic DNS name from No-IP.com and DynDNS.org. You also download a Dynamic DNS updating utility from the service you get the Dynamic DNS name from. This utility will run on your Mac and keep the Dynamic DNS name updated with whatever IP address your ISP assigns to your router.
If you have the firewall enable, you need to allow port 8000 through to the SecuritySpy software. NOTE: If you are behind a router, and this system never leaves the home (that is it does not go to coffee shops or other public WiFi access points), you can turn off the firewall and allow the home router to be your hardware firewall.
Once you have that all setup, you can then access your security camera/SecuritySpy software using something like:
    http://yourDynamicDNSname.DynService.net:8000

  • Problem Viewing Security Cameras Remotely

We want to view our security cameras on our smartphones. The problem started when we installed Airport Extreme Base Station. We have a Westell 6100G modem. Our OS is Windows 7. Here is what we've done so far.
Following instructions from Verizon, configured the 6100G to bridge mode so it would only operate as a modem. As per the instructions, we also disabled "Private LAN DHCP Server". In Airport Utility we configured connection sharing to "share a public IP address" and entered port mapping information. And than we lost our internet connection.  We reset the 6100G and configured AEBS back to bridge mode and now we have our internet connection back. But of course no remote cameras.
This shouldn't be that hard. What else can we do.

configured AEBS back to bridge mode and now we have our internet connection back. But of course no remote cameras.
This shouldn't be that hard. What else can we do.
If the AEBS is bridged it has nothing to do with port forwarding.. all port forwarding will occur on the 6100G modem router.. look up the reference material for that.

  • Accessing IP cameras remotely via Homehub wireless...

I have only basic networking knowledge but using the useful information on the various sites I have managed to setup two additional BT Homehubs to link to the main homehub and provide connectivity for some IP cameras.  The Homehubs are a mix of the older white models, I believe the main one is version 1.5.
The reason for doing it this way is that's it's not practical to route cables from the cameras back to the main hub.  This all works great on the internal network, and I can also get remote access over the Internet to the camera connected to the main hub, via dyndns.
The problem is getting remote access to the cameras connected to the repeater hubs.  I'm assuming I have to configure the equivalent port-forwarding on the main hub, but I can't see the other cameras as devices on the main hub in order to add them into the configuration.
Am I going about this the wrong way, or maybe it isn't even possible to do this?  Thanks for any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I doubt that what you are doing will work, as the Eternet ports on the remote home hubs will not appear as individual ports on the main hub.
Powerline adapters would be a much better solution.

  • Port forwarding security cameras WPA2 blocked?

I just bought an Airport Extreme router and set up port forwarding for home security cameras.
When I have no security - I can access the cameras remotely (iPhone) and locally with no problems on my iPhone. However, when I add on WPA2 security everything gets blocked. Is there a firewall or feature inside the AEBS that needs to be modified? Help!

The fact that you can access the cameras remotely verifies that the port settings are correct on your AEBS.
Wireless security does not use ports as it is a local network feature so no additional base station settings should be required.
The issue appears to be with your iPhone Wi-Fi connection when wireless security is enabled. WPA2 is supported with all iPhone models.
I would recommend at this point to change the security password to see if this resolves the problem. Temporarily try the following as the base station's Wireless Security password: 0123456789abcdef0123456789
Note that there are exactly 26 characters. If this works, go ahead and change the password. I would recommend one that contains a combination of 26 letters, numbers, & punctuation marks without using any spaces.

  • Port Forwarding for Security Cameras

I have a Cisco RV220W that I am trying to set up to view the store security cameras remotely. I can view the cameras when connected to the LAN but not with a WAN connection. The Video recorder is an ADT system.
    Always Allow
    RTSP:TCP

    Always Allow

The port is the viewing port for the DVR. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hello,
I have looked into the RTSP standard, and it looks like the default ports are 554 for TCP and UDP.  Since it looks like your cameras are using a different port, you may want to try creating a custom service for 8016 externally, since the default rule is currently translating 554 to 8016.  Of course you can also try connecting to the cameras with the public IP and port number 554, that should work with your current setup.
However if you are unable to change the port your client software uses, definitely try creating a custom service for 8016.  You may also want to double check that the camera has the RV set as it's default gateway.
    Hope that helps,

  • Connecting to IP Cameras remotely

I have been searching the forums and cannot quite get what I need. I have two TrendNet IP cameras setup and can connect to them and see them with my Linksys WRT54g router on site, wirelessly connect. My problem is connecting to the cameras remotely from home. Is there a guide that will walk me through it? I have an AT&T DSL modem (Not wireless), my router is wireless. Please advise. Thank you.

Well if you want to access your Camera remotely, then you need to register your camera with www.Dyndns.com. Using Dyndns url you can access your camera from the Remote location.

  • Loss of DNS connection and internet access to camera

I seemed to have lost my connection after a power outage last week. I've reconfigured the camera several times and it still seems to lose it's settings (date, static IP) I've checked the port forward settings which are fine. I see the camera on my PC utility and within my network. There is also a error on the camera that it hasn't been able to contact the DDNS server on it's scheduled updates. Any suggestions. I'm using the Linksys router WRT54GX2.

    Hi....
As you are losing the settings on the camera i would like u to upgrade the camera firmware.
    Also upgrade the router firmware.
After upgrading the camera and the router firmware, reset the devices and then reconfigure it.
After reconfiguring the camera, login into the camera setup page, go to setup and then sololink DDNS and click on Update now.
Check whether you are able to access the camera  remotely.

    very strange,
    1. check time and date on your computer
    2. reset network configuration, make sure there are no proxy servers and you get DNS from your router not manual
    3. Reset certificates database
    Go to Terminal (Applications>Utilities)
    sudo rm /var/db/crls/*cache.db
(you will be prompted for your password)
    and reboot the computer

  • How can you tell if someone is accessing your computer or camera remotely?

what is making you suspicious that this is happening?  Or is this just a general question?

  • Accessing my router/wireless linksys camera remotely

How can I view my linksys wireless camera from a remote location? I am using internet explorer but don't know how to access my router. I know the ip address to the camera but what is the command string I must use?

what you need to do is forward a port on your router.
by default the port that needs to be forwarded for the linksys camera is 1024.Since you know the IP of the camera, this is what you do.
access the router using http://192.168.1.1 , enter the password "admin".
Click on the tab "applications and gaming" then select the "port range forward" . enter the app as "what u want" the start port as "1024" end port "1024" select protocal as TCP and enter the IP of the camera.and enable. save settings
Now to access the camera froma remote location you will have to know your WAN IP address at all times. This IP address is on the "status page of the router" so at the remote location you need to type "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1024
Or you can register with sololink.

  • IP Camera remote access

Hi, I am new to the forum and not particularly familiar with port forwarding etc.
I have bought an IP camera which I managed to set up in my elderly Mums house, through her wifi.
I understand I need to have a DNS account to remotely access it and the instructions mention opening a free dyndns account which is no longer available. Is this something that BT include or is there a provider that can be recommended, please?
    Any help appreciated, thanks
    Nigel

    Welcome to this forum.
There is plenty of information on these pages.
    Port forwarding problems
How can I connect to my webcam or NAS if my public IP address changes?
CCTV and IP cameras - port forwarding
Its a DDNS service that you would need if you want to access the camera from the Internet.
The BT Home Hub supports a number of DDNS providers, and will update your host name, if your public IP address changes.
I use DynDNS as my DDNS provider, but there are a few others. Make sure you use one which is supported by the Home Hub. If you look at "Dynamic DNS" in the home hub menu, you will see which ones they are.
If you say which IP camera you have, then forum members may be able to help.
