Accessing time capsule from Apple TV

I have lot of my movies stored on time capsule. Can i directly read these movies from time capsule through my apple tv and play them on my hdtv?

Yes. Just bought it thinking I would be able to play directly from my Time Capsule, but am going to send it back and buy another player, probably from Western Digital, that can acces the files directly.
I am very disappointed with Apple: they do make the best hardware, but all those limitations they put on the way you can use them is a shame.
That's entirely up to you. However do you realise that many of the features of the Apple TV rely on integration with iTunes, without it, well you just have the poor experience you do with other products, even though you may be able to access content from a network drive.

  • Best way to access Time Capsule from the Internet?

I wanted to see if anyone knew of a program or setting I can use in order to access Time Capsule from the internet? I know that probably I will not be able to at this point access it directly, even though it is connected to the internet through my modem, but I do have a Mac at home that is connected to Time Capsule. Isn't their a way that I could connect to the Mac, but not through Back to My Mac, that would show Time Capsule as connected to it, so that way I could access the files? Any ideas would be appreciated.

It is possible to mount the TC as a network hard drive when outside your regular network.
    1) You will need to reconfigure your router to forward the ports used for AFP (by default 548) to the Time Capsule.
    2) Then when outside the network make sure Finder is active, press Apple+K to bring up the 'Connect To Server' dialog.
    3) Input the WAN IP address of the network to which the TC resides on.
    4) You will be asked for the password used to access TC.
    5) The TC should appear as a mounted drive.
It is then possible to access files on the TC as well as do a TM backup. To make life easier you can drag the mounted TC into your dock for easier access in the future.
However, it is obviously recommended to use a strong password to protect the TC (configurable using Airport Utility in the 'Disks/File Sharing' tab). You may also need to use a service like DynDNS if your network does not use a static IP address.
But I am using my home networks' Time Capsule successfully from the office.

  • Accessing Time Capsule From Any Internet Connection

Could you please tell me if it will be possible to access Time Capsule from any internet. I would like to put all my files on the device and be able to access these while out on the road.
Thanks in advance for your help
    Cheers Steve

Yes, you certainly can (right now) remotely access the hard drive attached to your AEBSn. I will refer you to "Step 4" in Apple's article Sharing a USB hard disk on your network for instructions on enabling this feature. To access the disk remotely (and don't test this from a computer on your own LAN) select "Connect to Server" from the Finder's "Go" menu, and enter the public IP address of your Base Station.
I have to admit the specs for Time Capsule don't explicitly indicate that Time Capsule will support this feature. However, given this feature is available on the AEBSn and is easy to implement, I would be very surprised if Apple took away this feature when they designed Time Capsule.

Can you access time capsule from a mac over the internet?

Yes. See this thread about how to access the disk attached to a Time Capsule.  Access to the Time Capsule itself can be done similarly.

  • Can I share the files on the time capsule for all of the macs on my network and can I access time capsule from my laptop while out of town?

I have a iMac desktop and a macbook pro.  If I purchase a time capsule, can I use it as the central location for my files for both computers?  Can I access the files on the time capsule from my macbook pro when I am out of town?

Yes, with some provisos.. it is designed as primarily a backup location for Time Machine.
Look at Pondini who has a great deal of info in his KB of all things Time Machine .. as well as Time Capsule.
    Q3 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Remote access is via BTMM and iCloud.. just look it up.
But the TC must be the main router in the network for it to work.

  • Accessing Time Capsule from iPad 1st Gen.

I want to access my Time Capsule from my iPad 1st Generation, but the option to "Set up an AirPort Base Station" is not showing up on the iPad's "Wi-Fi Networks" screen.

"All you need to do is plug in your Time Capsule and connect it to your DSL or cable modem. Then simply select your Time Capsule in Wi-Fi settings in iOS 5, or from the Wi-Fi menu in OS X Lion, and follow the instructions."
I understand this to mean that you would configure the iPad to connect to the wireless network that the Time Capsule is providing. So, it would connect just like any other computer.
You select the wireless network, enter the password to connect and you are on the network.
AirPort Utility would only be used if you have a brand new Time Capsule that you want to configure.
If you are asking if the iPad can "read" normal files on the Time Capsule (not Time Machine backups), then you will need an app like App Store - FileBrowser - Access files on remote computers (and Time Capsule)
Really sounds like you have questions for the iPad Support Area.  Please follow up there:

  • Accessing Time Capsule from PC

I have a macboook pro which has given up the ghost. I've been backing it up using Time Machine onto the Time Capsule which I have had installed for the last month or so.
I am now having to work temporarily from a pc and want to be able to access the data on the time machine. Is this possible?
I have installed the software for Airport Utility onto the pc and can join my own network and see the Time Capsule. However, when I click on it I am given Error: 10057.
On another note, is it possible to use the Time Capsule as a hard drive as well as for back up as I have noticed that accessing the data on the time capsule is not exactly easy and can't quite see the benefit of it over a normal external hard drive.
I particularly need to access my email history...I can cope without the rest as I have access this via my normal hard drives.
Some straightforward advice would be very welcome.
    Thanks

Hello nemospain. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I am now having to work temporarily from a pc and want to be able to access the data on the time machine. Is this possible?
Sorry, but no. You will need a Mac running Leopard or Snow Leopard in order to access the Time Machine backups on the Time Capsule.

  • Can't access time capsule from my macbook air

    Guys,
Recently, I bought a Time Capsule. In my home  I have 1 IMAC, 1 Macbook Air and 1 Ipad connected to the TC. In the first  configuration everything is ok. But, now, when I true to use the Time Machine or even access  the TC from the MacBook air I'm not able to to do that. When I try it comes a message telling that I should contact the system administrator.
If someone could help I`ll be glad.
    Thanks,
    Caliljr

Reboot the TC.. it is stupid yosemite.. it has forgotten where the TC is.
This is stock standard yosemite.. welcome to the beta program you thought was full release.
There threads multiple in number and length but no fix is available.
new x yosemite doesn't support airport utilities ... time capsule doesn't work.. very frustrated ... need help please
Start at the end and works backwards.

  • Access Time Capsule from another location

My Time Capsule works well in my WiFi at home with both automatic backup of my Macbook Pro and to save large files on.  What are the setting i need to add to be able to access the files from another WiFi system away from home?

There is a lot of setup involved..
The TC must be the main router of the network.. it cannot be bridged.
The wifi network you are attached to remotely must give you a full public access IP address. Find the public IP of the TC and see if you can then access it.
Do not ever expect this sort of thing to be completely straight forward.
Read the many many posts about remote access. There are different methods if BTMM doesn't work.
    See AirPort
Remote access article as a starting point.

  • Access time capsule from remote location

I have a time capsule bought in 10/09 - can I access it from a remote location - like out of state - and if so, how?

The easiest way to do that is with a MobileMe account. There's a tab labeled that way in the Advanced panel of AirPort Utility.
By the way, don't expect to be able to do Time Machine backups remotely. Such a backup requires too much backup to be successful over the WAN.

  • Seeing Time Capsule from Apple TV

    Hi all,
I'm trying to get my Apple TV to see the files being shared on Time Capsule.  I have no problem seeing and sharing files between my Macs and can happily play media files using a Western Digital player, but I can't seem to find a way of getting my Apple TV to see the Time Capsule share.  Have I just missed the point and Apple TV can't do that and I can only share via AirPlay or iTunes?  I hope not as that would be a huge failing for the Apple TV as it's internet connection is the Time Capsule.
    All help welcome!
    Cheers.

happily play media files using a Western Digital player,
Tick. It is a media player.

Tick.. Apple TV is not a media player.. it is a sort of connector box between a media player.. ie itunes and your TV. You can think of it as a wireless or ethernet to hdmi converter. With a slightly complicated interface.
ATV1 and ATV2 were immensely popular because they could be hacked. ie jailbreak into a useful media player.. that is why ATV2 command prices 2x or 3x the new ATV3 which so far has resisted all attempts to make it useful.
BTW Apple see the failure in being able to hack the earlier ones.. when you sign up to Apple you sign up to the whole.. or nothing. So the way to play media is to pay for it via itunes.. thus making apple considerably richer.

  • How to access time capsule from iphone

any one knows how to read files in TC from the iPhone? Soonr may work but i have not been able to try.
    appreciate any suggestion/ideas...

I was wondering the same since I just got my Time Capsule fired up last week. I've got a ton of scanned documents archived up on the TC. Its got to just be a matter of time before someone writes an app to do this? Anyone have any ideas or see anything coming down the road?

  • Accessing Time Capsule from Internet

    Hi,
I have a problem to acess my TC with MacBook Air or iPad from Internet.
TC (Version 7.6.3) is connected to Internet with PPPoE connection. How to configure TC to can acess from outside? Is it necessary to define a port?
    Please advise, thank you.
    best regards
    Robert

Do I have to configure BTMM on my MacBook to?
If I am on a remote place, I can access TC using Air Port program, right?
Yes, there are details on setting up BTMM on the Mac..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4907
There is plenty of angst involved of course..
    See
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3699096?start=0&tstart=0
For all kinds of issues that crop up.
Airport utility may not work.. in fact it is unlikely to since it is using a port not forwarded.
You are accessing files.. nothing else.
iPAd: There is a software (GoodReader) able to acess with AFP, but when I enter my IP adress (found over whatsmyip.com) as URL-Adress it doesnt work. It only works in WLAN inside with lokal IP adress. Any more hits??
    Thank you.
As stated I am ipadless.. and not able to test any setup of any software.. you must google yourself.
Are you entering the address correctly.. ie
    AFP://publicIPaddress
Do you have the sharing disk over WAN checked in the airport utility? See on the disks page of the utility. You will not be able to access it without that..
It is also a chance that enabling BTMM could stop direct access such as you are attempting with the ipad from working. Turn off BTMM before you start trying to access with ipad. It is totally different.. !!

  • TS3972 How can I access the files(movies, music, etc) in my Apple Time Capsule(4th Gen) from my Apple TV(3rd Gen). This is very frustrating Apple has not provided a basic feature, and me buying the Time Capsule and Apple TV is an complete waste of bucks.

I have an Apple TV (3rd Gen) and Apple Time Capsule (4th Gen). How can I access Movies and Music stored in the Time Capsule from Apple TV. This is very  n't give frustrating that Apple doesn't give their customers with an straight forward access to their customers in between their own products. Iam repenting that buying these products is completely waste of bucks. Appreciate your help...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The Time Capsule is clearly announced as a router with a hard drive to make backups, not to store anything and share it with your Apple TV.
To access to movies and music from the Time Capsule, note that the Apple TV can only access to them if they are stored in your iTunes library, so you will have to put your movies and music into iTunes to access to them, and then, put your iTunes library on the Time Capsule in order to access to your data from there
