Accessing Time Capsule via MobileMe

Just bought the newest version of Time Capsule. Can't figure out how to access it via MobileMe. I went into the capsule settings in airport utility and put in my password for mobileme login info. Also, back to my mac is turned on. Still, I don't see my time capsule in MobileMe.
Am I missing something?

Are you trying to find it by visiting the MobileMe web site? It won't show up there.
This feature simply makes it show up in your Finder's sidebar under Shared when you are remote.

  • Has ANYONE been successful in accessing their Time Capsule via mobileme???

I have set my mobileme user name and password on both of my Time Capsules yet I have not been able to see either one from anywhere other than from within my network.
Perhaps I am missing a simple step but I don't think so.
Just wondering how others have fared with this.
I am using a new and updated time capsule that I just purchased and the other was purchased in September. All firmware updates are done as well.
    Thanks in advance to all.

I up dated my Time capsule with 7.4.1 and I can see my Time Capsule with no problems on my mobileme, I have a problem keeping my network up with the new update. The Time Capsule looses the internet and network after an hour or two after the updated and new to be upluged and pluged back in to get the network back and the internet, when go back to 7.3.2 the system works fine by I am not able to see my Time Capsule on the Mobileme, but it does show on my network and I can access on the network, I am asked to update the Time Capsule because it keep opening the update window.

PS does anyone else have this problem.

  • Access time capsule via ethernet

airport time capsule, can I access time machine using an ethernet cable.
I find the wi-fi connection to my iMac creates a unreasonable lag when accessing time machine.
My iMac is connected to the internet through the ATC so can I configure it to send/receive files via the ethernet connection?

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the three LAN <--> ports on the Time Capsule to your Mac. Turn off the WIFi on the Mac and you are all set.
Whether or not the Ethernet connection will result in significantly faster performance when you enter Time Machine is open to question, since a lot of data must be loaded when you start up Time Machine to look at backups. In most cases though, a wired connection will load things faster than wireless.
Please let us know on your results.

  • Remote Connection to Time Capsule via MobileMe

Bit of a double topic post here but it's generally aimed at the Time Capsule:
I have a home network and I want to be able to access the Time Capsule either from work or pretty much anywhere. I use the TC to store music and video so I was just wondering how easy it was to set it up like an iDisc? I have files I need on my MobileMe account, but with the 1Gb file limit I cannot send movies to my MobileMe account.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers!

not sure if this answers your question. I am trying to do the same thing. Found this article. Basically, it's easier if you have a mobileme account.

  • Accessing Time Capsule via Ethernet

I've installed TC and it works fine via wireless, I now want to setup TC via Ethernet wired cable because some of our workstations do not have wireless access, does anyone know if there is a step by step process in doing this.
    Thanks in advance.

I have what I think - can't be exactly sure from your description - is a very similar setup.
I have a Netgear Router/CableModem attached to the cable modem. The router provides 802.11b/g wireless and has some wired 10/100 ethernet computers connected. This router only support 10/100 for the wired connections.
This configuration was in place before I added the TC (and the Mac Pro for that matter)
It wasn't broke so I didn't want to fix it -- so I left it in place with the Netgear being the DHCP server for IP addresses for all machines on the network.
I added a 8 port 10/100/GB switch to enable the Macs and the TC to communicate at GB speeds. The "upstream" side of the switch went to the Net gear router.
The MacPro, a ethernet cable for allowing the Macbook wired access, and the TC are attached to the 10/100/GB switch. The TC is connected to the switch from its WAN port.
The TC also serves as a base for a 802.11n network (separate from the b/g network - unique SSIDs.)
The TC is in bridge mode so that only the Netgear router does the assigning of all devices on the entire network - wired and the 2 wireless ones.
Here is some details of the specification for the Time Capsule in my configuration:
The TC connected via its Ethernet WAN port to an ordinary Ethernet port on the Netgear Router. I configured TC as follows:
-Internet tab (in manual setup) of the AirPort Utility as follows:
    Connect Using: Ethernet
Configure IPv4: Using DHCP (This confused me for a moment - it means have the TC get its IP stuff via DHCP - i.e. from the NetGear)
    Ethernet WAN Port: Automatic (Default)
Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode) - this lets the Netgear assign all the IP addresses to everyone on the network)
    -Airport Tab -> Wireless
Network Name: A different name (SSID) than the Netgear's SSID
    Radio Mode: 802.11n only (2.4GHz)
    Channel: Automatic
Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal with a password
Under Wireless Options - Check Create a closed network
I'm sure that there are other combinations that work, may work better, but this suits the way this house is laid out/ wired and the way we use our machines. For one I have chosen to not leave the TC on 24/7 - heat/power. The Netgear doesn't get warm at all and stays on 24/7. It also means for me that I can define both wireless networks on the 802.11n capable machines so that they can be wireless in the, for us, very unusual circumstance that the TC would be off when wireless access would be needed by these devices..
    Hope this Helps.

  • Access Time Capsule via WAN on Windows

    Hello
Please can someone tell me if they have been able to access a time capsule remotely from a windows box? I have afp working on Mac, but need a similar solution for windows?

  • Accessing TIme Capsule via the Internet

    Hi,
I would like to set up my TC so that I can access it wherever there is a connection. According to Apple's website I can just register with my MobileMe account. So far I can't seem to find that part, much less is there a step-by-step documentation guide.
Would appreciate if anyone has successfully done this.
    Thanks!

I suggest starting with Apple's Back to My Mac User's Guide

  • I cannot access the external hard drive connected to my time capsule via wifi

I have two external hard drives (a WD mybook and an older Seagate, both HFS+ formatted) connected via a USB hub to my time capsule (which is also my wifi router).
Here's the funny thing: If I a connect my mac mini to the time capsule via an ethernet cable, both disks show up as normal in Finder - along with 'Data' under Time Capsule under Shared.
But if I disconnect the ethernet cable and connect to the router via wifi, there's no sign at all of the two disks - not in Finder, and not under 'Disks' in the Airport Utility.
Anyone out there with a solution?!

Hi William, and thanks for replying.
I do have a guest network set up (for exactly that reason that guests don't get access to shared disks) but am definitely not connected to it.
So sadly it has to be something else.

  • Access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

how to access files stored in Time Capsule via iCloud

Yes, you can remotely access files in the TC..
Did you read the apple instructions and do them??
    http://www.apple.com/au/support/icloud/back-to-my-mac/
It does depend on the main router being upnp or NAT-PMP capable.. so the best is if the TC is the main router.. otherwise you may have to manually forward the ports.

  • Can I access my Time Capsule via web, even if it´s not connected to a mac??

Can I access my Time Capsule via web, even if it´s not connected to a mac??

Yes, but the issue is the IP address. If you have a static IP from your ISP it is easy.. Or if you use another router with dyndns it is easy.. but Apple make it exclusive to their network so you can have loads of issues without a computer to function as a client for dns.
Look up remote Time Capsule access .. there is plenty of info out there.

  • HT1175 I am trying to setup my Time capsule via a ethernet cable as a back up for a new iMac. The on button on the time capsule set up window keeps failing to stay on. Any ideas what to do?

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • After upgrading to Lion I can't access time capsule pre lion.

Last week I backedup to time capsule via cable.
    I then upgraded to Lion.
After upgrading I backedup to TC again.
Now my MBP 17  can't access time capsule pre lion. So I can't see any of my last 2 years of Snow Leopard data.

yikes, I had to move all my years of iPhoto folders/pix from very old iMac to a new HP laptop with PC Vista Home Premium....now finally ready and hoping to do years worth of photo albums! so I go in to these files and of course they don't open...because they're on pc.
    - I am techno ignorant on all this, what can I do? Is there any way I can open these on PC or do I need to go back and reinstall on a very very very old AND slow slow slow mac? these photos were created in 199, 200, 2001 up through 2007 so through many versions of iPhoto and Mac OS. I am hoping I can retrieve them - and very worried I cannot! Would love advice and help.
    - and on a separate note, any good, inexpensive iPhoto and iTunew wizard/tech support professionals out there in the Menlo Park, CA area?

  • Connecting to Time Capsule via Ethernet

    Hi,
I'm working on a Tiger OS and I cannot connect to my time capsule. I followed instructions in the manual, but I simply do not see Time Capsule on my desktop, and there is very little info in the manual.
I am working off of ethernet, not airport, and would prefer to used ethernet for the moment. I have it connected via LAN port to my macbook pro. There's only one ethernet port on my computer. Does anyone have any advice? I know about about Macs, but dont have much experience with network specs.
I simply need to archive data, but I cannot see Time Capsule on my desktop. Time Capsule is connected just fine to my modem, but now how do I connect to my computer? I've tried to unplug ethernet from my computer, and into the LAN port on my capsule, but to no avail.
I am absolutely clueless as to how I can use this machine at this point??
    Thanks much.

    Jean,
You probably don't have the Network Preferences set correctly.
Connecting The Time Capsule Via Ethernet
Connect one end of a Cat-5 Ethernet cable into one of the LAN ports of the TC (<•••>).
Connect the other end to your Macs ethernet port.
    Open Network Preferences.
At the top change "Location:" to "Ethernet Connection".
In the list on the left "Ethernet" should be at the top of the list. (If not use the Action Menu (gear button) at the bottom to "Set Service Order".)
Click "Apply" in the lower right.
Give it a moment to acquire an IP address from the TC.
    You should now be connected.
    Now begin your initial backup.
Now that you are reconnected to the TC, you should still have internet access during the backup.
Let us know if this was helpful. Next time start a new thread, you're more likely to get helpful responses that way.
    Cheers!

  • Accessing time capsule disc from PC

Despite being able to access the time capsule via airport utility without problem on my windows XP PC and also successfully having set up my home network for my macbook, PC and iphone etc I cannot gain access to the time capsule's disk via the windows system tray applet. No matter how I set up the access through airport utility (time capsule password, guest account etc) when I try to log into it from PC it rejects them (error 1203). Any advice gratefully received as wanted to not only use it as back up for mac but also for wireless storage for PC. Cheers

I gave Apple support center a call, the support agent told me that since the MBP has no problem connecting to the TC, the problem could be lay on the PC. He told me that it could be WinXP has disconnect itself while the network drive is left idle.
I followed the route and disable the autodisconnect in the PC.
    What I did are:
    1. Go to command prompt.
    2. Type net config server /autodisconnect:1
    3. Exit from command prompt.
    4. Disable and enable the PC networking connection. Plug out and in the network cable, or disable and enable the wireless network.
I managed to get one of my WinXP PC to connect (map) and disconnect (unmap) several times to TC. I also tested by rebooting the PC several times (but I always disconnect/unmap the network drive first. Yet to try reboot without disconnecting the network drive). This work for my WinXP SP3 PC, but not the WinXP SP2 PC.
I am upgrading my WinXP SP2 to SP3 now and will do further test tomorrow.
You might want to try this route, and please share about your test result.
    Good luck.

  • How to use Time Capsule via INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB Cloud

how to use Time Capsule via INTERNET WITH WINDOWS 7 SMB Cloud

Get a vpn router.. I have no idea where you are in the world but you can find reasonable stuff for not too much money or even a general router that takes third party firmware like dd-wrt can run openvpn.
Set up the vpn router in place of the TC, as the main router in the network. Simply bridge the TC and place it behind the router. It will be accessible as part of the network via the vpn.
This is the only safe way to do it via windows.

If you google around I have seen posts about how to access TC by port forwarding SMB on the TC.. using a different port.. To me this is going to slow down the hackers by a day or two.. then they will discover the open port and access your network.. not just the TC.. they now have SMB access to everything. Don't do it. There is very little security on SMB.
