Accessing URL of links in HTML e-mail message via Services

I'm trying to write a simple service (in Automator) so that when I right-click on a URL, I can send that URL directly to my Instapaper account (rather than opening the link in a browser, and then clicking my bookmarklet to save to Instapaper.)  I have it working for bare URLs included in the text, but I'd like to also be able to do it for hyperlinks in HTML-formatted Mail messages.  Is there a way in Automator to access the underlying URL for a link, rather than the displayed link text?  Clearly some of the built-in items in Mail's context menu (e.g. Open Link, Copy Link) do that, but I can't see how to get access to the URL in Automator.
Thanks in advance for your help with this,
Eric

Hi Scott,
"Unapealing" it is, but that doesn't get it very high on the long requirements list.
To make it more appealing to reward points is higher up there and I think everyone would love to see that.
Nevertheless I added it to the list.
Best, Mark.
P.S. On one hand I don't care about points, on the other I get teased in the office when I am not in the top ten, although with all this great contributions from you guys and girls, I am letting go of that goal. So don't bother.

  • How can I include a url (or Link) in my e-mail

In previous versions of thunderbird I could just go to "include" and then "Link" and in the drop down box just paste in the url I wanted to include into the field link address.
If I try doing that now I am told something about there being "no know anchor .... "
Now I have to type in the url again. Using the paste button does not work! WHY?
As a work around i just paste the url as text into the mail but then it does not show up as a link (underlined in blue), so that the receiver of the mail now has to copy and paste my link instead of just being able to click on it.

Yes it does, the conversion is part of the send process. if you look in your sent mail they will be links.

  • Improver access to protected user account mail messages via spotlight

    What happens:
Using spotlight from USER1 finds "private" email messages in USER2. Clicking on the message opens it in a mail window, giving USER1 access to mail in folders that is has no access to. Searching for something benign like "a" provides access to all of USER2's mail. Extenuating circumstances below.
    State verification:
    1. Using "show all" within spotlight makes it possible to toggle between "USER1" and "This Mac" to verify that the message is not on "USER1."
    2. Macintosh HD/Users/USER2 shows the folders to have the "no access" folder icon. This is confirmed with "Get Info"
    3. Within "Get Info" window for folder (USER1 active), the Privilege correctly indicates that only USER2 had Read or Write access
    4. Within "Get Info" window for folder (USER2 active), the Privilege correctly indicates that only USER2 had Read or Write access
    5. All is the same if USER2 is logged out.
    6. Within "Terminal," access permissions verify that USER1 cannot 5.

    drwxr-xr-x+ 5 USER2 staff 170 Dec 12 16:32 Sites
    Extenuating Circumstances:
As best as I can tell at this point, only mailboxes/messages that have been imported have this problem. I have done a number of spotlight searches on mail recently received: these messages are found when searched within USER2, but are not found when searched within USER1, and therefore cannot be opened.

    Additional Information:
    The message files: Macintosh_HD/User/USER2/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/FOLDERS*/*Mailboxes*.mbox/Messages/.emlx
...and some containing folders appear to have access permissions that are inconsistent with the higher level folders. In short, during the import process, these files and folders were given the wrong access permissions.
Went into terminal an manually chmod'ed them.
All now appears to be working correctly.
Since spotlight has access to the file locations directly, it can get to these files and messages even through the directory cannot be accessed through other means.
[This is either a bug in the MAIL Import function that sets the wrong access permissions, the spotlight program for allowing access to a file that has the wrong permission, but is within a directory hierarchy that should not allow access, or more likely, both]

Thanks very much for the reply. He's actually already built the site. Problem is he doesn't want to maintain it or update it and has asked me to help him out with it. So I guess the weebley site might be the only option.
However, what if I had a another MAC and access to his account, would I then be able to access his files through his iDisk and edit using iWeb?
Thanks for the help. Your reply/information has already saved me a lot of time wasting looking around for techniques to do this.

  • How can one get/set ReplyTo field in mail message via GW API?

    Hi!
Can anyone help me with that, please?

You can not with the Object API.
There is no plan to add the support to the Object API.
You would have to use the SOAP API.

  • Viewing HTML e-mail and problems with  = (equal sign)

    Good day,
I am having problems with apple mail rendinering html e-mail messages. There are extra = in the message body. The = appears to be line continuation character in the HTML. I have no problems viewing the message in Thunderbird or Entorage, but Mac Mail is a problem. The = appears to be displayed as a literal rather than part of the html reconstruction. Any thoughts as how to resolve this issue?

Looks like there is a common theme there. It is probably just that the original message has been corrupted somehow. Some mail clients try harder to understand corrupted data than others. I can't really tell from your original post. With mail messages, you really need to have the original data, not copied and pasted and not forwarded. If you have such a mail message, save it as raw source, put it into a zip file, and e-mail it to me. I can tell if it is an Apple Mail problem or a MS problem. If it is an Apple problem, I can file a detailed bug report on it. You can find an e-mail address for me by Googling my nickname.

  • Mail messages are not visible

When I open a message in apple mail, the content does not show up. Just the to, From, Title etc. The body of the message is blank. I can sometimes quit mail and relaunch it and see the messages, but not always. It is not consistent with the same message. In other words some messages fail to be visible and then will be fine as others fail. In other words it is not link to any particular mail message, sender or mailbox.
I can see the first part of message in preview column, but opening the mail comes up white. Sometimes when I forward or reply I can see the string and have done that to read message.
Most of my business is done via email so an assistance would be helpful and appreciated.
Is there a way to rebuild a mailbox. I've tried exporting and reimporting the mailbox, but that did not work
    I am running a Yosemite 10,10,1 on a 13" MBP (mid 2010)

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
              Envelope Index
              ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • How to mail merge via Mail.app?

I would link to run a mail merge via Numbers (or Excel) through Mail.app just like I can to print media with Pages.
    Any ideas?

I have searched high and low for the answer and it appears the mac is seriously missing this basic tool that  nearly all businesses need nowdays.  It's a real shame. Brand new macbook pro and macbook air for our sales people and whatnot and who would have thought we'd have to resort back to our old windows tools on the mac (microsoft office and outlook on OSX).  If we'd have known there was a major hole in the basic tools we wouldnt have moved over.
Anyway, that was a bit "rantish" but if I can be more constructive I've had suggestions to pay someone to write applescript and automator code for me, purchase office and outlook for mac and that's about it.  I can't find any custom apps (except for MaxBulk Mailer and RoBoPostman) but they're both very contained though I may have to give them a go soon if I can find no other solution.  (EDIT: You can also use online tools like sendgrid and the like but I want my own on machine system where I don't pay per month etc)
Basically people are saying numbers and pages haven't been updated much at all in the last 3 years so that's why this problem has been persistent for so long.  Others claim it's not a problem (they must use all their contact data in the address book rather than databases and/or spreadsheets).  It is a real problem though (I'm ranting again sorry! )
IF you find a solution I'd LOVE to hear it.  Our marketing efforts are suffering due to this.

    Hi
Most email service providers offer a web based interface to read/write/delete emails. On a number of occasions I've been forced to use my ISP's web interface to delete certain emails. For some reason, the main culprits for me are "Undeliverable" notifications sent from my employer's Exchange server. Invariably I'm unable to delete them via Mail and I have to login to the web server instead.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts for Mail Message

I switched to Mail from MozillaThunderbird. In Thunderbird, one can move through OPEN mail messages via Keyboard Shortcut; a simple "F" for next message or "B" for previous message. In Mail, the only thing I've figured out is that one can arrow through one's LIST of messages, then use "Return" to open only the selected e-mail. From there, I must return to the list again (Cmmd+W)to open the next or previous message. This seems cumbersome an un-Maclike. Is there any way, from an already open message, to move to the next or previous message via Keyboard Shortcut? thanks

No. Mail lacks this functionality. The closer you can get is to have the preview pane visible below the message list and move from one message to another using the arrow keys.

Right. If you are using delegated privs and sudo, make sure that sudo is configured to pass on the PERL5LIB and ORACLE_HOME environment variables at least.

  • How Do I Find the Full URL for Linking to Messages in the Forum

What is the best way to find the URL that links directly to a message I've posted in the forum?
When I receive an e-mail notifying me that a reply has been posted in a thread I'm subscribe to, there is a link to that reply in a format similar to https://support.mozilla.com/questions/862631'''#answer-279005'''. I discovered that if I hover my mouse over the '''Helpful / Not Helpful''' buttons next to each message when I'm using '''IE9 as my browser''', the specific answer # assigned to any message can be viewed in the status bar at the bottom of the screen (e.g., https://support.mozilla.com/questions/862631/'''vote/279005'''), but I can't figure out how to do this in Firefox.
Most other forums I post in assign a number to each message in a thread (e.g., message 7 of 25) that has the URL link embedded so that you simply right-click on the message number and choose '''"Copy Link Location"''' to obtain the direct URL for any message.

Adobe Reader Touch (Windows Store app with "modern" UI) is not really accessible.
If you have a device running the Windows 8 operating system (as opposed to the Windows RT operating system), you can install and run Adobe Reader XI (desktop app with classic UI), which offers better accessibility support for screen readers.  It also has the "Read Out Loud" functionality.
