Accessing USB with unresponsive screen?

My screen on my PRE has stopped working. I can still view the screen, but touch has completely stopped functioning. I have received a replacement from Sprint, but I need to get some pictures off of the PRE. I can plug phone into USB and I get the menu for Media Sync, USB drive, and Just Charge. I cant press the screen to select USB. I can press the round button on the screen and it shows the PRE charging. Anyone have a way to put the PRE in USB mode in order to access my files? Or if there is another way to get my pictures off?

It sounds like you are not able to access your iTunes library from your 2nd generation Apple TV through Home Sharing. I found an article with some steps you can take to troubleshoot Home Sharing (you can skip any of the steps you have already taken or the steps that reference iOS devices):

How to get photos from iphone5 with unresponsive screen

My iphone was dropped a few days ago and the screen became unresponsive. All the buttons work fine, but I can't swipe to turn it on or enter my passcode. I took the phone to an Apple store and was told by a not-nice guy that there was nothing they could do and that I could not get any of my photos off of the phone because I had the phone passcode protected. I thought Apple wanted everyone to passcode their phones! I wish I had known that this would prevent me from accessing my photos if anything happened to my phone.
I have sadly come to accept that my phone cannot be fixed and that I will need to shell out big bucks for a replacement. However, I cannot accept that there is no way to retrieve the material on my phone. When I plug the phone into the computer, it is recognized fine and stuff will download to the phone. However, iTunes tells me that it cannot synch FROM the phone until I enter the passcode on the phone, which of course, I cannot do .
I am really hoping that someone will know some trick to getting stuff off of a phone with an unresponsive screen. Please, please help this very sad iphone user. The photos are all the photos I have of my young daughter. I know, I should have learned to to back my phone up, but when I tried a few months ago, I couldn't figure it out, so I have no backup. I even tried to set up iCloud, but I couldn't figure that out either. I suppose I deserve to lose all the photos from my daughter's babyhood . Thanks for helping if you can! (please!!)

Dear Dilbert41, thanks so much for your reply. In "my computer", it shows "other" and "photostream (system folder)". When I try to open the photostream, it says "photostream is not enabled. Sign in to icloud to view photostream. Open icloud control panel." So, if I click on the open icloud control panel and enter my apple id, it tells me that icloud has not been set up. So, I tried to set up icloud, but it appears that I have to set it up ON my iphone first, which I cannot do because the screen is broken. If I could use the screen, it appears I could get around the passcode. Instead, I have the passcode, but I cannot enter it because the screen does not work. I'm sure I had plugged my phone into my computer several times; I remember copying some songs in iTunes. This makes me think that I should be able to synch without reentering the passcode, but unfortunately, that does not seem to work (other sites said that if I plugged it into a computer it had been plugged into before that it would work).

You'd need to know the PIN/pattern/passcode or else reset it via Android Device Manager (assuming the phone was set up with it).

Today I bought a WRT160NL router, which has a USB-port to connect a network drive.
I placed a USB stick in it that is formatted as FAT32.
Following the manual, you should connect to the shared folder on this "drive" by entering the server-name (or Ip-address) of the server in the address-bar of your window-explorer.
Now since i'm in Arch, that's a little bit difficult for me.
How can I do this ?
I tried to mount it:
mount -t vfat :xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ /home/linksys
special device :xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ does not exist
I tried mount.cifs:
mount.cifs //xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ /home/linksys -o user=xxxxxx,pass=xxxxxx
=>retrying with upper case share name
mount error(6): No such device or address
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
Am I going at it the wrong way ? do I need to activate server deamons/programs ? is there another way to do this ?
Please bear with me, I'm totally new to anything relating to NAS and servers...

The WRT160N is running embedded linux and utilizes a Samba server. It doesn't matter how the drive you connect to the WRT160N is formatted as long as you use a format it supports. It will then export the the disk using the CIFS (SMB) protocol, that you can access using client software.
See http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Samba section for accessing Samba shares. There are many ways to access the shares so pick the one that works for you.
a very useful info command is:
smbclient -L \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
add the '-N' option to perform the query anonymously

If you have the passcode lock enabled and you have connected your iPhone to your computer and synced your iPhone with iTunes since the passcode lock was enabled, you don't need to enter the passcode lock to sync or import photos from the iPhone's camera roll with your computer.

If you had your contacts synced/saved to your Gmail account just setup the same Gmail account on your new phone & your contacts will appear on your new phone. Double tap the screen with three fingers to switch off zoom, then go to setting and disable it to make sure you don't switch it on again by accident.

The Apple store personnel were overloaded and not sensitive to my plight. They told me that I would have to make a reservation for a time 2 hours later for tech support. I couldn't do that without missing my flight - out of luck until I get back to Los Angeles. If the Verizon store explanation is true, Apple needs to accommodate 4S and earlier generation users and not force them to upgrade to a $459 iPhone 5S!

The salesperson at Verizon has no clue what their saying.
My 4S and many of my friends works perfectly fine on IOS 7.3, no issue as all.

You should really read the manual.

Restore. When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.
