Accessing ~\Users\Sharing from a PC on the network - help!

I have a mixed home network of 3 PCs and one Mac Mini. I want to store all the digital music on the Mac Mini and share it with the PCs.
I have successfully created networking links between the PCs and the Mac. For example, I setup a MYPC account on the Mac and I can map a PC network drive to \\MacMini\MYPC\Music. This works fine, and survives a reboot. BUT IT ONLY GETS ME INTO THE FOLDER ON THE MAC WITH THAT USER'S FILES (MYPC), NOWHERE ELSE. So it's not a directory everyone can use (public).
I am trying to map \\MacMini\Users\Sharing and I can't get to it from the PC at all. I've tried using the IP address also. Nothing gets me there. This is after being connected in as an authorized account on the Mac. I thought that folder was open to all? Any suggestions?
I've also tried using a public folder on the Mac account to share. Also unsuccesful. Each PC user can easily see their own public folder (and more). Sometimes after I'm logged in, I can directly type in the address \\MacMini\MacUser\Public and see it, but it's intermittment and unpredicatable. I'm, open to this route, if I could get it to work.
This is a real head-scratcher. Please help me out.

By default the only directories shared out to Windows clients are the home directories.
If you want to share anything else you need to configure the file sharing server (in this case SMB) to tell it which directories to share, and under what name.
If you're not familiar with configuring Samba, grab a copy of Sharepoints which will do the job for you.

    Please try to reset the IE on the XP client. This issue may be caused by misconfiguration of the Internet Explorer.
    Please check if there is any firewall rule block the TCP port 80 of the specified website.
    To check if the TCP port 80 is open, please use the portqry tool.

    Next, plug the Apple TV into your computer with a micro-usb cable (most phones today use these) and start up Itunes. It should detect the Apple TV in recovery.
    After that, hold down Option on Apple or Alt on Windows and click Restore. This should open a window that allows you to select the software update you want to apply. Select the one you downloaded earlier.
    It will then go through the restore process, which takes only a few minutes, and then you will be able to plug the Apple TV back in to your display and set it up again.
    I recently ran into a similar issue with a bunch of these things and after restoring them all to the previous software version they are working again.

    I believe Gmail has an option for Two-Step verification that may require a different password for mobile devices than for your computer.

    You cannot block explorer.exe when you do not replace the shell - the
    desktop you see effectively IS explorer.exe...

    There is a difference between accessing one of your computers at home over a local network (wired or WiFi) and trying to access the same shared folder from outside of your local network. In principle it isn't possible due to the way data is routed via the internet. You should be able to access past iTunes store purchases (where applicable) and your iTunes Match account via any Wi-Fi point that connects you to the internet directly from Apple's servers, however it might be that certain places restrict access to particular servers.

    Try ":update" minus the double-quotes. Ex:

  • Can't access new MBP from other Macs on my network

    I just got a new last-gen MBP running Leopard. All Apple updates are installed. I need to access it from two Macs on my network that are running Tiger (also with all current updates installed). Tiger-to-Tiger connections are running perfectly. And the new Mac accesses the Internet, networked printers and so on just fine.
    Problem: While the MBP shows up in the other machines' Network Browser, they can't connect to it. And, while the MBP sees the other machines, all it can connect to is the account Public Folders (the entire volumes are set to share).
    The new MBP was populated with data from my old PB G4 using Migration Assistant.
    I've never had a problem like this. I've tried disabling the MBP Firewall, rebooting the network, rebooting all of my Macs, but still no luck.
    I've searched the Discussions and didn't find any help in previous postings. Hopefully someone can help me now...

    I do not think it's an OS issue. At least one requiring a reinstall.
    I just started my other MBP with Tiger. Takes a bit since it's booting via a FW400 pipe.
    I will see if I can access this MBP from that one in a few minutes. Never did that - all my systems have been peers. (Booted faster than I expected.)
    First I note that this Leopard box does not show up on the Tiger box.
    Also "go" and browse does not show this box.
    It worked but I had to enter this IP into the "connect to" on Tiger.
    Required login and password.
    Connected via afp and a window popped up with the volumes on this box to connect to.
    Clicked this user account and there I was.
    After that, this box showed up in the Finder sidebar.
    So Tiger will connect to a Leopard box, but it seems that one needs to enter the IP of the Leopard box. If that does not work, then something is wrong.
    Curiously, that Tiger box has not registered on this Leopard under Places.
    Ah, I did not have filesharing on in the Tiger box. Turned it on and I can see it from here.
    So I have bilateral network connections: Leopard here <-> Tiger there
    Works for me, but that does not help you except to know that it should work.
    BTW The Tiger version is 10.4.11.

    re-setting Time Capsule (soft and hard) and power disconnect
    re-setting modem
    changing passwords in all relative locations
    deleteing file://localhost/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
    deleteing all mention of Time Capsule in Keychain Access
    running KeyChain First Aid (no problem found)
    Restarting computer
    Time Capsule has a green light, other MacBook Pro backs up OK but this machine continues to receive above error message and will not Enter Time Machine producing the error message Your Time Machine backup disk can’t be found. Maybe I need to do something over or in a particular order? All help is appreciated!

    With the TC plugged by ethernet into the computer.. still in full isolation to the network and with factory reset.. you can do another to be sure.
    Please open the network preferences.. and check the IP the ethernet is getting from the TC.
    It should be 10.0.1.2

    If you open airport utility can it see the TC?

    If not then I think you have a major network issue on the computer.
    Assuming you can see the TC in airport utility.. go to manual setup and the disk tab. Does the disk register any issues.. SMART should show it has verified.

    Now go to finder..
    Mount the drive manually via the top menu.. Go.. Connect to server.
    And type in the address.. SMB://10.0.1.1
    Did NOT work, however 10.0.1.2 did
    That should discover the drive and ask you for credentials which after a factory reset will just be public as the password. The drive should mount and you can then see it in finder.

    I would deliberately use SMB. The other alternative is AFP://10.0.1.1 but that seems to be more problematic at times..
    Once mounted point TM to the drive and see if it can find it and start the backup.. if it fails I think you have need to use the A5 in pondini's troubleshooting and see what you can do.
    It failed and A5 makes NO difference.
    A drive that won't mount is obviously not going to work.
    Pondini is welcome to make comments... sometimes my Mac terminology gets a bit loose.. !! My recent convert status is visible .. !!
    My other solutions.. since these are fairly old products.. the TC is more than 3years in all likelihood so outside warranty.. get a USB drive and plug it into the Mac and use TM to backup to that. If that works.. I would erase the hard disk in the TC and start over with both computers.. you will need to backup the other computer before you erase of course. Erasing and starting over does seem to help.
    If there are no other suggestions, I guess I will try erasing and starting over. Thank you both for ALL your advice.

  • Can I get the Mac address in Audit logs of Active directory server for the user's machine which connect to the network/Domain

    I am trying to get the information of all the user's who connect to our Domain network by signing in using the domain account. For this I am using the Windows audit group policies ( I am not sure of there is any other way). I can see when the user tries
    to login to the network there is a audit event created on the AD/DC server. I can see the Kerberos authentication and logon/logoff events in the audit events under event viewer.  
              However the info which is being populated in these events include :- Hostname, IP address, Username and so on... But I can't see the MAC address of the user machine/system. Is there any way I can
    get the Mac address of the endpoint system as its one of the important criteria for our project.
    Any inputs on this would be appreciated, incase if there is any other way other than group policies please suggest.

    If you use DHCP, you can query the DHCP server. There's no builtin
    method to get the MAC address directly.

    Hi there, I have been wrestling with firewall and mail settings in Server Admin to enable mail services for a client and could use some assistance as I am new to mail administration on OS X.
    I am trying to isolate whether or not I am being blocked by the firewall or by erroneous setup in Mail Settings.
    The firewall service on the network "any" has a check for Mail: SMPT for both TCP and UPD on the "Services" tab.
    At this point I am just working with SMTP for outbound mail only. I have a suspicion that I am not setting the parameters for local internet domain name, and internet host name correctly; or that the settings I have are correct, but not valid.
    The hostname of the server is ##-###-##-###.atgi.net, where ## correspond with the numbers in each octet of the IP address. The MX record is pointing to smtp.CLIENT'SDOMAN.com. (where CLIENTS'SDOMAIN is the actual domain for this company) (Registrar is Network Solutions, I do not have DNS enabled on this server)
    SMTP settings are as follows:
    Enable SMTP is checked
    Allow Incoming mail is not checked
    domain name is: ##-###-##-###.atgi.net
    Host Name is: smtp.CLIENT'SDOMAIN.com
    Everything else in mail settings not active.
    Here are the SMTP log entires when I sart mail service:

    Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. If I can provide more supporting documentation, please just let me know what would be useful. I am quite new to OS X / Darwin, more comfortable with linux.
