Accessing Wi-Fi at McDonalds

First, my iPod touch is very slow to connect to their wi-fi. Secondly, what are the steps to connect to wi-fi? When I pull into the McDonalds parking lot, my iPod tells me I am connected to at&t wi-fi, and I touch the place that makes me select the wifi I want, then what do I do....because I am still not connected. I can't seem to get the login page up to sign in to thier wi-fi service. Its frustrating. Another question, why can't I access and play my facebook games on my iPod touch? All I can do is post on Facebook, but not access the games I play.

Some FaceBook games use Flash and the iPod (like all other Apple mobile devices) does not support Flash.
have you talked to someone at McDonald's? Some logins use Flash or Java, neither of which the iPod supports.

  • New iPad2 will not pull in Yahoo Mail, Gmail, etc.,

Just bought a new iPad2 and we are trying to get it to connect and pull in Yahoo and Gmail accounts.  We continue to get the same error message...
The apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com is not responding.  Check network connections and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field.
We have not been able to set up the Yahoo account on the iPad so we can't Delete it and try and add it back in.  Yahoo mail and Gmail works fine on our iPhone4's with no issues.  And we are NOT using the Yahoo plus features for POP.  Our phones work fine.  The iPad is connected to our WIFI.  I have reset the network settings on the iPad and tried to reconnect.  Not sure where else to go with this so that is why I am coming to you.

Quite a number of New Zealand Apple users have complained about being unable to access FREE WiFi at McDonalds or other cafes offering FREE WiFi in New Zealand.
One reason for this is that there is an undisclosed issue with the FREE WiFi configuration done by Smart Pay Ltd (Private or Pay WiFi setups are ok).
Smartpay Ltd have acknowledged that it is a known issue that Telecom New Zealand customers (ISP = xtra) are unable to connect to free WiFi with Apple's Email program on the likes of IPads, IMacs and, I think, IPhones.
As a somewhat unsatisfactory workabout, Apple's browser, Safari can however, reach Webmail i.e. Go to Yahoo.com and enter your Telecom New Zealand xtra email address and password.
Smartpay Ltd have known about the issue for quite some time and are supposedly working on a solution. Telecom New Zealand support did not seem to know anything about it as at 16th Feb 2012.
Suggest that all you Telecom New Zealand xtra users start complaining to customerservices.smartpay.co.nz (Ph 0800 123486) and/or Telecom New Zealand Customer services (Ph 123) and SmartPay Ltd might increase the priority of finding a solution and Telecom might bring preasure to bear or even offer some practical assistance to SmartPay Ltd.

  • Router VPN Issue

I have the verizon 4GTE Router and I am unable to access my company's  VPN from home.  I can access the VPN at McDonald's, Panera Bread, and all other wifi stations, just not at home.  No one has been able to help me as of this point.  Any suggestions??

Definitely speak to the community over at Verizon Wireless if you're running into problems with an LTE connection. This forum is for the wireline company, Verizon.
Perhaps this may be a starting point as to why your VPN is not working: https://secure.dslreports.com/forum/r28875622-Troubleshooting-Verizon-Mifi-Novatel-4620 check the first few posts. Also, just make sure if you've been poking around in your LTE router, that you have not set the Firewall to too high of a setting. That can block a VPN from connecting. Also, try playing around with the passthrough settings (PPTP, IPSec, etc) in the router to see if one of those is causing a problem. Those should simply be On/Off switches.

  • HT3819 Can you access home sharing from iPhone 5 that is on another wifi. Say mcdonalds

I want to access my music, videos, etc. from my computer. On iPhone 4 I was able to do this with home sharing. Now my iPad, iPhone 5 cannot access unless I am at home. I have iTunes Match. How do I view my movies over wifi with home sharing

There is a difference between accessing one of your computers at home over a local network (wired or WiFi) and trying to access the same shared folder from outside of your local network. In principle it isn't possible due to the way data is routed via the internet. You should be able to access past iTunes store purchases (where applicable) and your iTunes Match account via any Wi-Fi point that connects you to the internet directly from Apple's servers, however it might be that certain places restrict access to particular servers.

  • How do I give access to one episode at a time from a tv series on iTunes?

On my son's Gateway, running XP, I have set up an account for him and an account for myself (with me as administrator). Here's what I want to do: download an entire TV series onto iTunes under my account, then transfer one episode at a time to iTunes under his account, giving him access only to the episodes that I have transferred to him. What's the best way to do this? (I want to buy the whole season as it is cheaper than one episode at a time). (OK, yes, I am bribing him to do his school work, but hey, it's healthier than McDonalds!

I thought I had to download the whole season at once (if the whole thing is available).
No, but any available episodes will automatically download unless you go into the Download queue and pause them. Just so it's clear, even if you buy a season pass, each episode is a separate video. So you can download them all to your Windows/iTunes account and just copy over to your son's account the ones you want him to have access to.
Do you know how long I can leave the purchased episodes on iTunes before downloading? Is there a time limit where the un-downloaded episodes will just go away?
I wouldn't suggest that you leave them for very long at all. There's too much risk of something corrupting your download queue should an episode, for some reason, be pulled (as can happen if an episode is found to have bad encoding, for instance). I'd suggest that you download them as soon after they appear as you can.

  • Former Employee Obtained access to Administrator Account somehow and has been messing with roles, files ect... Just a question...

Ok, so about six months ago, my company let go of their Systems Administrator because she was causing many problems in the workplace... Yesterday morning i logged onto the server and found several files open with her name on them, including her confidentiality
agreement, and Employment offer letter, as well as the confidential folder that holds all employees personal identity information (she remote into the Server about 10 Minutes before i logged in, thus kicking her off not allowing her to close what she was opening/copying.
I attempted to check the logs to see what IP she was connecting with but was only able to find the following:
She remoted into the server about through Remote Desktop about 20 times on the 27th of May 2014, (horrible weather and she was probably logging in in a McDonald's Wifi and it kept kicking her off).
I took the day off because my area was flooded and couldnt make it to work.
She logged on, on the 28th of May, 2014 about 16 times before i logged on kicking her off, leaving everything she was doing open for me to see.
Everytime i remote into the server from my house or the office i get the following...

As you can see no IP address is shown unlike everyone other PC that remotes into the server... She has been using our server as her personal file host for her real estate business, she was fired last year for sabotaging AutoCad drawings her ex boyfriend
was working on (they are back together and was the one she set up with full access to server)  and she has been adding and modifying files in her group drive via the administrator account. She also disabled several roles we had installed, and gave her
boyfriend (who happens to work at the company) More administrator right than myself, as I built the server from ground up, and Only the Company owners had access to remote desktop, besides the administrator account... I want to make sure she didn't create
any hidden accounts that she can still log into.. I found under ADSI Edit Under Domain Controllers, Subscription Properties an account (servername$) which doesn't not show up in active directory, but had full access to everything... Is there a way to uncover
hidden Accounts she may have created to get into the server, as I've know from previous experiences, that $ sign normally refers to a hidden account or file of some sort.. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, The FBI is currently investigating
the situation, but i am trying to make sure all my basis are covered so this doesn't happen again... Thank you for taking the time to read my long ass thread, I will bestow upon you great fortune and Karma for any help given =-D

    Hello,
the $ behind the machine name object is normal.
For security related questions please use
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=winserversecurity
Also I would immediately remove all people form any kind of administrative groups, MUST of course be agreed from the company owner, then change the administrator account password. If there is a need for the additional administrators the company chief
has to agree on this and there should also be made some clear rules, maybe from a lawyer about consequences etc. Remote access to the network should be blocked or made more secure with two factor authentication, tokens for example, just using Remote Desktop
at the moment I would not allow until the network is better secured and you can be sure there are no unknown administrative accounts.

  • Strange - Home wireless network ok, no access Public networks

Ok, I'm not getting this, and I've been around computers for some time.
Got my B570 'round September last year. Worked great on home wireless network ( Brighthouse networks in Florida, with Ubee Wireless modem running Lightning or 40mb.)
Had to move to new place offering a house offering of wifi, had a bear getting that up, but finally did.
Here's the q, and I've seen this on an HP laptop running Vista, but that one died and I got this one.
Go to Starbucks, Panera's, Dennys or just about any other public place, and I can see the routers and even connect, but can't get anywhere on the internet. I get either a limited or no internet, or identifying, but that's it. I know that their router is working because i can make the wifi connection on my phone and browse no problem, and I see other patrons with different computers logged in at the same time.
McDonalds, I can get in, and soon as the network connection comes up, browser will pop up and allow me to accept McD's access rights page and I can connect. I know that Denny's has one too, but it doesnt pop up, and ( I know that this will sometimes happen too ) if I try to connect to a website, sometimes the local accept page will pop up, but usually not for me.
I have Google Chrome as my primary web browser, but even if I try to bring up via IE, no go.
I can connect to the internet via my droid phone usb wired or just wireless, but don't like that to be a regular solution.
I've already tried to update the wireless driver ( Broadcomm ), but computer tells me that i'm up to date. Enabled then re enabled. Flush DNS didn't help either, ipconfig / release and renew didn't do it either. Using Comodo Internet Security, and turned it off, even exited out of program and that didn't help either.
Today was an interesting day. went to Denny's thinking I'd get some work done, and couldn't get logged in. Went to Fedex Store to get some printing done, and logged in right away. Came home and can log into the communities public ( fee based ) network and can log right in. Looked in my bag and found a usb wifi dongle I had used for the HP when the wifi on it died out, but didn't try that yet. I'd rather not, I'd rather find out why the wifi on this laptop seems to be finiky with who's networks I'm using.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    hi Ronjie,
The issue you're facing is a very strange issue. From what i gather ist begging to choose the network it wants to work with. I may need more time to look inot his to see if it is a harware issue. But i would like to try something though. You may want to uncheck the IPV6 in ur Wireless network properties.
To do that you will have to go to your "Network sharing centre" > Click on "Change adapter settings"  on the left hand panel > Highlight "Wireless network Connection" > Right Click "Wireless network Connection" and select on "Properties". Be sure to uncheck the "Internet protocol version 6 (TCP/IPV6)". Then click on and try to reconnect.
Let me know how it goes..

  • I have an IBook G3 900mhz 14 inch screen and can't  access the Internet

This is making me crazy. I never had a problem getting on the Internet before Videotron wifi. I have taken the iBook, today, to McDonalds-no problem, to our shopping center-no problem, so I know air port is working. When I called Videotron support I got a lot nothing in the way of help. As the iPad works, the iPhone works it must be my iBook.
I see that the Videotron wireless router uses a different encryption: WPA2-PSK and my only choice on the iBook is WPA Personal; that this might be the problem.
Do you think this is the problem? If yes, can I change the iBook?
Does anyone know how to reset the D-Link router to match the iBook?
    Please help!

    Hi Ivan,
Thanks for the info. I thought that was the problem, but could not find any data. I think my choices now are:
    1. Find an AirPort Extreme card for my iBook
    2. Purchase a USB wifi adapter that works with OS 10.4.6
    3. Purchase a used MacBook
I'm tending toward a MacBook. I am retired now and can't spend a lot of money so please advise on which used Intel model would give me the best cost/benefit.
On the router that the iBook works on, it is a Router provided by Bell United States in our cottage in Florida and it is supposed to be equivalent to the D-Link but we are home now so I don't know the model. I can use my iBook here in Rivière -du- Loup at McDonalds the shopping center, etc. Just not with the new Videotron D-link Router. Videotron has the router locked so I can not access the router's web page to change the encryption. Additionally, Videotron doesn't want to do this for me or give me the password so I can change it.
Thanks, a really big thanks. Also, I wanted to give 10 points but hit the wrong button, sorry, I'll try to change it.
    Bill

  • Hi All, hope you can help, why do I have trouble connecting to free wi fi, especially at McDonald?

Hi All, can someone help please. Having trouble connecting my iPad to free wi if at  caravan parks and also at McDonald, I have no such problem connecting my laptop. Thank you.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • TS1398 Trouble accessing O2 wifi hotspots since updating to IOS 6

Has anyone else got this problem, I updated my iphone 4 last week and now can't access the O2 wifi hotspots in McDonalds etc.?

    Update:
Took my ipad into the Genius Bar today and they sent me home with a new one. He tried resetting two or three different things while I was there and after all his resets, he couldn't get it to even connect to their wifi network.

Getting the message cannot decode raw data when accessing a Joomla website.I can acess the homepage but cannot get on to look at any of the products. Have tried using other peoples iphones to view the same website and the same error appears works fine in a web browse or android.

Was the other iPhone the same model, running the exact same iOS, accessing the website through the same App?
Try using Google Chrome.  Do you still have the issue?
Edit: Just realized you said that the other iPhone had the same issue.
    Here's how troubleshooting works.
Look for a single common element.
If two iPhones cannot connect to a particular wi-fi router (but CAN connect to other wi-fi routers, like a public one at McDonalds), does that suggest a problem with BOTH iPhones, or a problem with that wi-fi router?
    Now:

  • International WiFi access

While on a recent trip to Germany, I was unable to get WiFi access anywhere. I tried in several locations (Starbucks, McDonalds, Westin hotel, etc). In all cases, I would get a WiFi access page in Safari (mostly T-mobile), but was not able to log on, sign up for access, or click through on any link...just a static sign-on page. Nor was I able to access free WiFi anywhere.
Airplane mode was OFF. Data roaming was OFF to avoid AT&T data roaming fees. And I also restarted the phone to see if that would help. Phone worked fine for international calls.
I'm going to Amsterdam soon...any advice on WiFi access? I have had no problems with WiFi in the US (paid, free, or at home) and no other problems with phone. Would prefer not to take my MacBook just for e-mail and internet use. Thanks!

If you get a Wifi access page from T-Mobile, it means you have to log in using some kind of billing method. T-Mobile hotspots are only free for German iPhone users because they are T-Mobile customers.
Free Wifi hotspots are not as common as in the US, but they exist, like in cafes or restaurants. There's several websites that list free Wifi access points, better look them up before the trip!

  • I need a guest access password.

I need a Guest Access Password..

You'll need to contact the owner of that router/account and get permission. If you're getting that page you are on the internet, you just don't have the permission to go further (the lack of a password)
To test, take your iPad to a place with open and free wifi, like  a mcDonalds or starbucks etc and see if it connects.

  • Ipod Touch - where can I access internet - hotspots, or do I need Cloud?

If I want to use the Touch to browse the internet outside of my home (which has wireless broadband), do I need to subscribe to a provider such as Cloud, or would I be able to access the internet in places that are hotspots, such as airports etc?
Sorry - total newbie to all this stuff so please be kind!

You can connect to the internet anywhere there is a wi-fi signal (hotspot) as long as the hotspot is open (i.e. no username and password required), or you have a username and password from a paid-for service provider, such as The Cloud, or BTOpenZone.
In some locations you may find open networks that you can connect through. These are either provided free by places such as McDonalds, pubs, coffeeshops etc to their customers, or in some cases, are private connections that haven't been properly secured by their owners.
Using someone else's wi-fi connection without permission is usually illegal, so best not do that!
The Cloud do a special discounted monthly subscription especially for iPod touch users for £3.99 per month (instead of the usual £6.99) here: http://www.thecloud.co.uk/page/3615
