Accessing Wifi Hotspots

Hi there I've done a quick search through and cannot find an answer (unless my eyesight is failing me!!) anywhooooo I've got a 5800 and would like to access BT Openworld hotspots whilst out and about so that I can use my free inclusive mins, however it appears that BT do not do an app for my phone only android and spyphone at the mo.  Someone somewhere must have downloaded one of the apps to make this easy and basically I would like to know what's best/easiest to use.
Thanks All

Hi there Lance, thanks for your response. I saw a few of these in Ovi Store earlier but when reading the reviews none of them appeared to stand out hence my post in here cos let's face it if the users on here don't know, they to be honest it ain't worth knowing
Maybe I'll try the Handy Wii one to see how I get on with it and how easy it is to use, I'm not a technogeek but nor am I a technophobe but I am annoyed that BT have covered "certain" phones and not ours!!! What's the point in us having inclusive free Wi Fi mins if we can't use them??
Thanks once again Olive

  • Getting quite frustrated with my iPhone 4S.  Can't access WIFI and/or Bluetooth nor will my computer allow it to be a "hotspot" unless physically tethered to computer.  It started acting up after download....it also has messed up some app

I've only had this phone since Sept. and have already had to have the speaker replaced.  NOW I can't access wifi and/or bluetooth (both are grey).  I can't use the Personal Hotspot either (and the passcode no longer shows up).  I can only access internet via the phone through the USB.  This started over the past few days (and after I updated to IOS).
Some of my apps no longer work either...over 100+ hours of audiobooks on Audible can't be accessed as the Audible app just shuts off.
Any recommendations on how to recify?   I'm pretty rural so downloaded anything takes going to the next town over to get a signal from the library...  and all of my searching is eating into my 5gb limit through ATT....so it is a bit irritating

called Apple Care this a.m....new upgrade on 12/31/12 is supposed to fix the "bug"

  • I created a wireless network with my Time Capsule but would like to connect this network to a WiFi Hotspot for Internet Access

I have created a Wirelss Network at home with the Time Capsule and would like to connect this network to the Internet.
I can't use LAN Cable to connect to it anything becasuse I usually use the WiFi that runs through my building.
Can I connect the Time Capsule to the WiFi hotspot somehow so that all computers on my network have Internet access and if so, what do I need?
I need this done because the computers can only be connected to either the WiFi network or to my Time Capsule Network at any given time.
Or is there a way to be connected to both networks simultaneously?
I have two PC's and two Macs.
Thank you for any support and I apologise for my ignorance. I am not too good with networking.
I have tried the silliest of things like connecting a router to the TC only to then realise that the TC had an inbuilt router.
I tried connecting a USB WiFI adapter to the USB Port on the TC but it doesnt detect it that way apparently.
    Please help!

  • TS1398 Trouble accessing O2 wifi hotspots since updating to IOS 6

Has anyone else got this problem, I updated my iphone 4 last week and now can't access the O2 wifi hotspots in McDonalds etc.?

    Update:
Took my ipad into the Genius Bar today and they sent me home with a new one. He tried resetting two or three different things while I was there and after all his resets, he couldn't get it to even connect to their wifi network.

  • When will MAC O/S be supported on MiFi (Fivespot) device to access the Verizon wifi hotspots?

I just got the Fivespot for Broadband internet access for my laptop.  I've had it about a week, and tried the dedicated network access from home, and an internet cafe using both the USB connection, and the wifi connection.  Both work fine, and speeds are very acceptable.
When I tried accessing the Verizon Wifi Hotspots--I realized they are not available on a MacBook, since you can only access the VZ wifi hotspots using the VZ Manager app.  After I read the manual, realized that I could only access the VZ wifi Hotspots from Windows O/S.  Good thing my MacBook has a dual OS boot (I never go into Windows anymore unless I absolutely have to--like in this case).  As a side note, I had to install and setup the FiveSpot again in Windows--let me just say--even though I didn't encounter any issues--the process went much smoother using the MAC O/S.
Anyway, got VZ Manager up and running on Windows, followed the instructions to update the Verizon Wifi Hotspot locations, and then connected to the wifi location that I was in, which was a local Barnes & Noble.  Please note that all Barnes & Noble, and Starbucks offer free public wifi through 'attwifi'.  Thinking that the Verizon wifi hotspot would provide a faster connection speed and performance, I decided to try it.  Well, the response was dismal and poor--I tried to download a 22MB file, and the connection speed showed a paltry 7 KB/minute; in the public library, I usually get a speed of 100KB/minute, and the attwifi public access usually results in 50KB/minute downloads.
Disappointed in the so-called Verizon wifi  hotspots speeds.
Does anyone know when this will be accessible via the Mac OS?
    Thanks!

Ironically, turning Airplane Mode on disables streaming, but still shows your entire library when shuffling. However, the unavailable songs skip, like they should. But could still be tapped to download, if there were service. I wish there was a way to separate playback from having music available for download.

I hope so too.  So what have you actually done to fix your issue?

  • I can not access to Wifi Hotspot it says " Obtaining IP address"

First I created Wifi hotspot but when I shut off the pc and then turn it on, I can not see it anymore
I looked at control panel / network
I can see the icon there but it is not working
When I right click on the icon it says disable/rename/properties
I think it is working but I can not see it is working

    Hi,
    Apologize for the late reply.
I see the mode is set to disallowed.
Please take a try to set it allowed using the following command:
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork [mode=]allow
More information is shared in the link I posted already at my first reply.
Or we might take a try to rebuild the hosted network as maelwliams suggested.
    Best regards

  • How to set up wifi hotspot connectivity

I have an old laptop that was upgraded from XP to Vista Business. It runs OK but is very slow. I have Fios wireless at home and it connects fine, but the In-house Agent won't run properly (blank pages for the Internet & Phone sections...Chat tech was unhelpful). My question is: how can I set up the hotspot connectivity without having to use the worse-than-useless In-house agent?

the link I gave is for a windows machine
Droid has it's own app, and boingo is what Verizon uses - so you can safely download boingo and then when it asks for your login, you put your VZ log in info.
you DO have to create a seperate WIFI log in though,  So you should go to www.verizon.net/
Hover over my verizon and then select VIEW all from the my services menu  > then select internet on the left hand side menu > then select manage under the verizon wifi section.
    Manage gives you two options
    Find Wifi Hotspots
    WiFI how to demos
Select Wifi how to demos and then click and follow the registration link
when you get there, it wants you to sign in, you sign in with your main account, and then you go through the Wi-fi registration steps to make a Verizon WIFI username
these are going to be seperate usernames, one used for your account and online access, you already have this one
and the next is one specifically for wifi hotspot access, you are creating this one (if you haven't already done so)

  • Free Verizon WiFi HotSpots Now On-Line

It looks like Verizon has turned on the ability to register for access to free Verizon WiFi HotSpots.
Verizon Wi-Fi for High Speed Internet Verizon Wi-Fi* is a free service that enables qualified Verizon High Speed Internet subscribers to access the internet at thousands of public places known as Wi-Fi hotspots. This wireless service is not intended to be used from your home, but to be used while on-the-go.
    Here is the URL:
    http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Networking/SetUp/WiFi/124611.htm?LOBCode=C&PromoT...
It requires a 20MB Download or better FIOS Plan or 3MB or better DSL Plan
Verizon Wi-Fi is available with select High Speed Internet packages and in designated locations only. The service requires Windows Vista or Windows XP 32-bit with Service Pack 3. Verizon Wi-Fi is not available on Macintosh, Windows XP 64-bit, or Windows 7 operating systems.

Totally agree...I was excited that Verizon was finally allowing free Wifi access for premium high speed subscribers (something AT$T offered over a year ago) but this was short lived after finding out that my netbook running Linux  (Ubuntu) was not on the list of operating systems (an extremley short list) I assume this will change and they want to get to all of their primary OS users out of the way first. Disappointing to say the least. There are alot of your subscribers that are looking for alternatives to the infamous "Windows" especially on their mobile devices. I hope they will provide these users with options as well.

  • Create WiFi Hotspot with Command Prompt?

I was trying to create WiFi Hotspot on my Windows 7-32bit running laptop using the command promt method after followinng the instructions from here >> http://www.techswatch.com/2014/11/create-wifi-hotspot-windows-87-command-prompt.html However, the problem is, after creating the hostpot, when I enter the password it does get connected but I cannot access the internet. I am sure that I have entered the correct password else it wouldn't have got connected. Any idea what could have gone wrong or if I need to follow anything else? Any help would be apprecited.

I think it is better to use Wi-Fi creator to create WiFi in laptop. Search 160 WiFi in Google!

    Hi ihtisham301,
Thank you for visiting Sony Community!
Try to connect any different device to your home network. If other device can't connect then you may contact your Internet Service Provided (ISP) for further assistance.
If other device can connect, then try to isolate the issue. You mentioned you cannot connect to the network but you were able to enter the credentials before connecting to the network. Try to ping any website, Start -> search cmd -> once in command prompt, enter ping googe.com and hit Enter. Check the Ping statistics. Try to ping your router as well. ping [router IP address] then hit Enter. Also boot the laptop in Safe Mode with Networking -> turn off the laptop, press the power button and immediately, tap the F8 key repeatedly. Once in Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode with Networking.
I'm not quite sure about the process that you did. I never tried that before. And another thing is, it seems that you are using a non-U.S. model of Vaio. We usually have Windows 7-64bit computer. We have limited information with non-U.S. model of laptops.
For further assistance regarding your concern, please contact the Sony offices/Sony representative offices nearest to your place of residence in Asia Pacific region http://www.sony-asia.com/countryselector.html?hpid=countryselector:AsiaPacific. Due to proximity, they are in a better position to respond to your questions or concerns.
    Hope my suggestions help.
    Thanks,

  • Mifi 4510L - Use Verizon Wifi Hotspots

I used to have the Mifi 2200 - and was able to cable up to the mifi - and use the Vz Access Manager to authenticate to the verizon wifi hotspots at airports, etc.
In getting the 4510, I see the Access Manager is no longer used/needed/supported, so how do I authenticate now to use the wifi hotspots...
Support, and my local store had no clue.

The Verizon WiFi web site is specific on who is eligible.... and it was part of my purchasing decision on the MiFi 4510L and my 2 year contract.:
    From http://support.vzw.com/clc/faqs/VZAccess/verizon_wifi.html#item7
Who is eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi service?
If you are currently signed up for a Mobile Broadband or GlobalAccess monthly service plan on a month-to-month, one- or two-year contract term, you are eligible for complimentary Verizon Wi-Fi.
Note: Prepaid Mobile Broadband, Mobile Broadband Connect, and smartphone users are not eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi.
So, how do  MiFi 4510L customers get this to work?

  • I am unable to setup my 2011 Macbook Air as Wifi Hotspot. Tried both using LAN and Data Card(USB dongle)

I recently shifted to a new place and it will take a while for the telcom company to install the landline and DSL connection. Until then, I am stuck with only a data card at home and a LAN cable from a neigbours router(he doesnt have WiFi).
I have been trying by all means to make my MBA a WiFi Hotspot but it never works. I wish there was a tool like connectiy for Mac. Cant it be as simple as its in the iPhone, I use it for tethering(BT,USB,WiFi) with a click of a button.

Hi, first of all Thank you for your instant response.
Yes, I have updated to version 33, Now the problem is not as random as it was before. I found that I have absolutely no issues when I use FF for the first time after starting my computer. At this point there is no issue at all I can watch videos when both logged-in/logged-out and also they work perectly if I switch between flash and HTML5.
But as soon as I restart Firefox I cannot watch the videos at all. No matter if I am logged in/logged out, I did try HTML5 but still it didn't work. The error message was same in all the cases "An error occurred, please try again later".
We are secured by "Cyberoam" so I don't have access to proxy sites.
By the way these observations are for Windows 7.

  • Unable to Create Wifi Hotspot after OS update

I have just updated the OS on my Q5 to 10.2.424.  When I now try to create a WIFI Hotspot I get the message"Regulations in this country prohibit Mobile Hotspot usage."  This is not true and how do I roll back to the previous OS to get this working again?

Apparently do do not know quite what a WiFi hotspot is. You don't create one on your computer you can access one if there is one in the vicinity of your computer. Read this for better understanding:

  • MBA as a Wifi hotspot without other connection

Hi. I am running a web server on my MBA and I would like others to be able to connect to this server. For security reasons, I can't run a server on a specific network.
I would like to disconnect my MBA from WiFi, turn it into a WiFi hotspot that others can connect to, and then they can navigate to my web server in their browser.
I realize that my MBA and all of the devices connected to it would no longer have access to the internet, only my web server.
    is this possible?
