Accessory error messages

After plugging my phone into my stereo, I keep getting pop ups on my phone saying "charging is not supported with this accessory" and "This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone. You may experience noise interference and a decrease in cellular signal strength"
I have plugged my phone into the stereo loads of times before and it always pops up with this message when I first plug it in but I just tap dismiss and it goes again.
It has been happening for nearly 2 days now and since it started, I have had a couple of problems with the sound output as well.
Any ideas?

I just fixed my buddy's phone with this problem on 4.0.2 3g 8gb. I performed the following these steps:
1. take a toothbrush...clean chargine port
2. open up the iphone...inspect connection #4 and connector (I have experience doing this..if you don't, find someone who can)
The reason for opening the iphone is the connection and connector will appear corroded. Take a brush and gently clean the connection and connector and electronics around that area...you should see the connections/connector clean after that.
In order to open the iphone, unscrew the 2 screws by the charging port, then take a suction cup placed by the home button and pull open, but be careful because on the headphone jack side, there are 3 connections that need to be removed before totally removing the screen/lcd......If you have not done this before, then I suggest you find someone who has...
3. close the iphone up...
This worked on my buddy's phone...the sound for text messages came back, music played, and "heytell" finally worked...everything was working normal again and no more annoying messages.

  • Accessory error messages since iOS3.1.3

    Dear Apple --
    I'm frustrated.
I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS which has worked pretty darn well since acquisition last year.
But suddenly it started displaying error messages sometimes when connected to *the same cables* as I've been using since purchase — that is to say, the AT&T-supplied car-charger, and the Apple-supplied USB cable and AC adapter — which messages reportedly indicate accessories which were not properly Apple-licensed.
First, starting with iOS 3.1.3, “Charging is not supported with this accessory,” mostly (but not only!) seen with the car charger.
Now, starting today (not the first day running with iOS 4.0.1), "This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone ... You may experience noise caused by cellular interference and a decrease in cellular signal strength."
It seems unlikely that the car-charger from the EXCLUSIVE cellular carrier of the iPhone would not be properly licensed. It seems even less likely that the Apple-branded USB and AC adapters would not be properly licensed or not optimized for the iPhone with which they shipped. I can think of no good reason why these accessories would suddenly not be good enough.
This didn't start after a moisture incident with the phone (and in fact there have been no such). This didn't start after an impact incident (of which there have been few, and none severe). It started spontaneously -- and again, the messages are intermittent, which doesn't match to any reports I've seen about either moisture or impact damage.
There has been no mistreatment of the cables, and there's no spooge buildup in either phone port or cable end.
All that's left is software, and the only software that fits the picture is the OS.
    So what's the deal, Apple?
Why do I have to disconnect and reconnect two or three or four times to get a nice big green battery image, instead of any one of several alerts complaining about my charger? Why do I have to watch to make sure that the charging status doesn't change when I put the phone down while connected to the car charger?
Why has this *gotten worse* with each update since 3.1.3, instead of getting better?
Your swift resolution of this issue will be most appreciated.

I am experiencing exactly the same issue. I live in the UAE and iphones are not serviced here. Ridiculous, really. I feel your pain. And no response from Apple?

  • Accessory Error Message???

At various, unrelated times, my iPhone4 displays the message: "This accessory is not optimized for the iPhone...etc" I have to Dismiss the error box to continue to use my iPhone! The weird part, I am not using an accessory! In fact I don't use any accessory with my iPhone! There doesn't seem to be any reason or timing for when this aggravating message appears. Any idea what's going on or getter, how to stop this from occurring? Thanks!

Don't jiggle the cable too hard, you may break it. Try just connecting it, and disconnecting it several times, or place the phone into the dock and remove it several times. There may be some dust or dirt on the contacts that are giving you the false indication (real to the phone) that you have it connected to something. If that doesn't work, try a gentle spray of canned duster. I wouldn't recommend applying anything liquid to clean it otherwise. Also, this indication can come from the line out connector on the dock. Try plugging and unplugging an 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) stereo audio plug into it to clean the connector.

  • I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "

I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "
THis is means they are not charging on a 30 pin cable and the touch won't work in my Apple iPod dock - no audio out or charge. Have re powered both devices to no avail am wondering if the iOS version is the problem
    Help!

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • Using wall charger for first time I get error message "charging not supported by this accessory."  Been using since December and not seen this before.

Using wall charger and am now getting error message "charging not supported by this accessory."  Have been using since December and this is first time I have encountered this.

Did you look to see if there is debris or dust causing the problem? Get a flashlight and take a look to make sure.
Is there something in the USB end of the cord perhaps?
You didn't answer this question ....Are you using the charger and cord that came with your iPad?
You could try changing cords if you have another one available to see if it is the cord. Have you tried connecting to your computer to see if you get the same message?
You could try a hard reset by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. Then try the charger again.

  • After updating to ios 7.0.6 i keep getting an error message saying "this cable or accessory is not certified and will not work reliably with this iphone" every two minutes and its annoying

What is up with this error message after updating saying our cables are not reliable?

Thank you for this suggestion, but the message continues to display every couple of minutes. (e.g. "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone.)
Not only is it annoying and concerning...this is draining my battery, as the iPhone keeps waking up to display the message over and over. Like "MartinLegodi" above, I also have no cable or accessory plugged in and only use Apple cable and products when I do.
    It's a disconcerting mystery.

  • My ipod classic 80G is displaying the error message "this accessory is not supported" when placed on my Altec Lansing dock

Ipod is 80G Classic and displaying no other unusal or faulty behaviour. In the couple of days between the dock working fine and the error message appearing, there were no software updates. The ipod is actually a couple of years older than the dock- what's going on?

So the iPod worked previously on this particular dock? Does Altec's support website state that it supports your particular model iPod Classic?
Have you tried a hard reset of the device with it still connected to the dock?  To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It wouldn't hurt to also check the dock connector on the iPod for any signs of debrisa and bent or corroded pins that could be blocking the connection between the dock and iPod.

  • I have the iPhone 4 and I keep getting a "this accessory doesn't support charging" error message when I sync with my MBP.

It is also doing it with my car charger. Both of these have always worked fine in the past. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

This means your iPhone has a major problem, and if the error message says connect to iTunes, you must do as provided and connect to iTunes. There isn't anything to figure out - you must connect your iPhone to iTunes as provided.

  • Funny error message after a pooldive

Hi, I permanently receive a funny error message since we fell together into a swimmingpool:
This accessory is not made to work with iPhone
Would you like to turn on airplane mode. Mode to reduce audio interferences.
You will not be able to make or receive calls
The iphone has no accessories plugged in and we both dont want to use the airplane mode. Help! I am getting nuts!

Your lucky it works at all. You might be luckier still, it may dry out and the fault might go away but I doubt it. Power it down give it chance to dry out properly. Put it somewhere warm (not hot) and dry (obviously) for a few days.
You could contact Apple Care but your warranty is void if the iPhone is damaged by moisture so its going to cost you. The iPhone has a moisture sensor so they will know its been wet at some point even if it has dried out.
    Good luck.
