Accessory not made for iPhone! It in the iPhone dock!?

My iPhone has a problem when it is put on its dock and ONLY when its put in the dock it occassionaly comes up with the "this accessory is not made for iPhone..." message.
This has happened 3 times over a period of 7 days- it does not occur everytime the phone is in the dock and it has never occurred any other time.
I have managed to get it to happen twice tonight but half pushing the phone into the dock BUT I can't get it to happen everytime - it came up about 2 times in 100 attempts over 4 hours to see if I could replicate it.
I have not restored it as it is so random I am not sure that restoring it will even fix it - although I will if it gets worse.
I have another iPhone dock I am trying and it has not come up in that dock but again it may not appear for hours or days as its so random!
There are no other problems with the phone. I don't know what to do!
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I was in the shower when I received a call. I turned off the shower, blotted my ear, and tried to keep the phone dry. I got to my headset (corded one that comes with it), and plugged it in to be safe. All of a sudden I start getting the message you're talking about. I also had had the ringer turned off the day before. I have no idea what caused it, or if any of that was something above that started the issue. I wasn't getting the clicking sound when I turned off the keyboard, and that stupid message kept popping up.
I tried turning off the phone and resetting it, I unplugged and replugged the headphones, and blew the phone's dock connector, earpiece, and headphone jack. I turned ringer mode on and off with the switch. None of this seemed to work.
Then I plugged the phone in DIRECTLY to the computer, just with the cord and no dock. Be-deep. The sound I loved to hear. Sleeping the phone with the top right button now clicked again, and MOST importantly, I haven't gotten the message in the last 10 minutes!!!!!
I'd love to know if any of those situations I listed above was something you had done before this occurred. And I'd love to know if it works.

  • This accessory not made for iphone

"this accessory not made for iphone would you like to turn on airplane mode" message keeps coming up. I select no, I have to unplug and plug back in the apple earbuds, yes the ones that came with the iphone and it will work for a song or 2. Suspecting the earbuds perhaps have a short in them ( yes the right speaker is pretty distorted at volume) I tried to play my songs with no head set plugged in, and I still get the "this accessory not made for iphone would you like to turn on airplane mode" message. This phone is pretty much useless as an ipod, and frankly thats the only reason I bought it. My phone is approximately 3 months old. Is there a fix, is my phone a lemon or am I gonna have to send it out and be out of luck for awhile? Like most people Im very dependent on my phone and music. Thank you

    done211,
The message you are describing occurs when either a device is connected to the dock connector port that is not designed to work with the iPhone, there is debris such as lint in the dock connector, or the dock connector itself is physically damaged.
Connecting something to the headphone port will not cause this message to be displayed.
    Hope this helps,

  • Accessory is not made for iphone

For Christmas my daughter received a ipod speaker player. One of those speaker systems that you plug you ipod into and you can hear it... external speaker style for your bedroom. Well I plugged my iphone into it to play my music and got an error message.
THIS ACCESSORY NOT MADE FOR IPHONE SWITCH TO AIRPLANE MODE.
now I get this message even thou I'm not plugged into that box anymore. How can I get this message to stop showing up.

I have an original iphone with all update sw/fw, etc. I have never had any problems with my phone. Mine just started giving me this random message as well. It began after plugging my phone into a third party wall charger that was "made for iphone". Now I get that accessory message constantly throughout the day.
Does anyone know how to resolve this yet? Will it help to wipe the phone and reload everything?
Here is what I've tried so far:
-plugged the phone into the original iphone dock and left it there overnight. Restarted the phone in the dock as well.
-plugged the phone in a car charger that works perfectly in the past with no issues.
    -restarted the phone numerous times.
-Plugged the phone into computer and synced it several times.
-'blew' out the connector with one of the computer dust removal aerosol cans.
Thanks for any info. This is driving me nuts.

  • Rain + Accessory is not made for iPhone = Need advice!

Just got caught in a really heavy rain shower and now my iPhone is intermittently showing the Accessory is not made for iPhone message. But I don't have anything plugged into it!
I've turned it off, taken the cover off and placed it somewhere dry (it didn't actually get wet at all, just a bit damp).
Any experiences of similar things out there & suggestions?

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me. It's so annoying and I don't know what to do! I hear there is a way to fix it, but your phone needs to be jailbroken.. which mine is not. My bottom water sensor is totally red, so I know taking it to the apple store isn't going to do anything for me. If your sensors aren't red or pink... you should take it in!

  • Sitting in the dock - keeps prompting: this accessory not meant for iphone?

while sitting in the provided dock - keeps prompting: this accessory not meant for iphone?
What is up with that? Keeps doing it over and over...

    1. It's not aligning properly with the dock. Take phone out and really look carefully at the dock and the port on the iPhone and attach them both very carefully making sure the phone is fully and completely seated in the dock.
    2. Even when seated properly, the message may display once. Hit OK and move on.
Here's what I've learned having encountered this (though not the repetitive display of that message):
The old docks for our other iPods really are not quite fully compatible with the iPhone. (Shame on you Apple). Somewhere on this board is a note that the new docks will be coming out soon as these 3rd parties re-vamp. I know I know... where does that leave all of us who have all this stuff that we had working just fine with our iPods pre-iPhone. I dunno but they better come up with some fix other than buy a whole new clock radio, et al.
Business opportunity - make little dock adapters for really cheap that you just drop into all of your older iPod docks that go between the iPhone and the dock on the clock radios, et al that will bridge that gap, so to speak. Maybe somebody is already doing this???

    Hi GaterFarms,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some things you can try if iTunes repeatedly prompts you to authorize your Apple ID and may help your iPhone syncing trouble:

  • This accessory not suitable with iphone

Everytime I unlock my iphone or simply check the time I am always getting this message about this accessory not suitable with iphone if you wish to continue click yes but you will not be able to make or receive calls.
Also it does not play music out of the speaker through the ipod function and also does not make a noise when i receive messages despite being on loud.
i have read through other forum posts and tried just about everything it says to do but am still at a loss.
someone please help or im going to get rid of it.

Very aggrivating indeed. All those issues here as well. My Iphone is only a month old. I can't even hear when I am on YouTube there use to be a volume slider and it's completley gone. I am able to hear my phone ring but not txts. The unlock button doesn't sound and I'm sick of the prompt. " this accessory is not made for iPhone" " would you like to turn on airplane mode.
I've hit yes. I've hit no. I have dusted dock. I have removed sim tray. I have called apple who suggested reset. I reset. He also suggested that I plug my ear buds in several times Nd play around with it. NOTHING works. I am at lost what to do. I sure hope there's a good answer right around the corner. Please. If anyone finds out something let me know. Purty please with like whateever u want on top.

  • Which headset/handsfree are made for iPhone certified?

Hi, I'm doing an application for iPhone that needs capture the button of bluetooth headset/handsfree. After read many links on the web, I noticed that for doing it, the headset/handsfree must be certified by made for iPhone program.
So, anyone can tell me where I can find a list of handsfree/headset made for iPhone?
    Thanks.

Should be fine. Just old iPod accessories you should worry about (as they changed form 10w to 5w. So very old accessories that "charge" could fry your phone if the older 10w ones.
The "not made for iPhone" message is pretty much telling you, it wasn't made with the iPhone in mind so things such as shielding from GSM noise was not taken into account.

  • This accessory is optimized for iphone/no music while charging in car

I have an iPhone 3GS when I charge in my car I get a message this accessory not optimized for IPhone.  What does this mean?  Secondly, while charging on this charger I get no sound when trying to listen to music. Thanks for your help in advance

I would highly doubt that the battery pack and car charger would both be defective!
    I said no such thing!
I said if you are using the same cable with both devices, it is probably the cable.
I also said this can also mean your iPhone's dock connector port has some damage - likely due to mositure damage.

This is a user-to-user forum, and your message will not be received by Apple. You will need to sign into your Developer/MFI account, and contact Apple that way. This can be done here.

  • The "This Accessory is Not Designed for iPhone" Nag

"This Accessory is Not Designed for iPhone"
I guess that's the oldest (bug?) in the iPhone. What I have noticed in going from the (highly coveted) firmware 3.0.1 to firmware 4.2.1 is that after you press “dismiss”, the "This Accessory is Not Designed for iPhone" nag reappears in 5-6 Mins.
With my old firmware the nag would only show up once, with firmware 4.2.1 it nags over and over again. (And of course, all of the accessories involved work perfectly in every way.)
Others tell me, jail breaking is required to stop the nagging. I am not jailbreaking my phone. Please tell me there's another way.

    It's not quite a bug.
The only reason it would reappear is if it loses the connection and then reestablishes it. It should never show up after appearing once and maintaining that connection. Presumably it i showing up because there is an incompatibility. If there is then I suppose it would make sense that it is struggling to maintain that connection.
In terms of getting rid of it there really is no way besides using an accessory that is compatible on Apple's terms. The same thing happens to me when I use my car dock. Do I really need to be told every time I get in my car that the same dock I have used for months is incompatible (yet still works 100% fine)? Absolutely not. But it's not something that can be disabled.

  • Just started getting intermittent error on my 3G:This accessory is not optimized for iPhone..." but nothing is connected or plugged in to it or anything?

Was just checking my iPhone and when I pressed the home button to wake it up the message "no sim installed" was on the screen,  obviously it was so I restarted the phone, that cleared it but then I started intermittently getting a popup message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone...(don't remember the rest), did a hard reset and still happening once in a while, there isn't anything plugged into or connected to my phone at all though, would appreciate any help or advice please

The most common reason for message "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone" with nothing plugged in, is dust, debris etc. in the iPhone dock port. Clean the dock port with a clean dry toothbrush. If the message returns again, clean the dock port again very carefully using some isopropyll alcohol, especially the pins which are on top of the dock mid rib.

  • HT1665 how do i found out if a company is certified manufactury (made for iphone) chargers and not fake.

how do i found out if a company is certified manufactury (made for iphone) chargers and not fake.

It is not possible to confirm that an adapter is genuine by inspecting its exterior, and inspecting the interior to identify engineering shortcomings that differ from Apple's design destroys the power adapter.
Many counterfeit adapters can be identified through obvious misspellings on their case, but the only way to be absolutely certain you are using a genuine Apple power adapter is to purchase it from Apple or an authorised Apple reseller. Counterfeit and potentially dangerous power adapters bearing fraudulent consumer product safety agency approval markings are very common.
