Accessory not supported by iphone message keeps appearing . . .  .

This morning, my iPhone began to randomly display a "accessory not supported by this iPhone" message and keeps asking if I want to go into Airplane mode. On more than one occasion, the phone was not plugged into ANY accessory and was simply sitting on the table.
On another, it was playing music via the headphone jack into my car stereo.
I'm running V. 3.1.3, upgraded when it came out and have had no incident until today.
Any ideas? Not a big problem, just more of an annoyance.

Check your phone's dock connector and make sure it is free of lint and other pocket debris.

    Hello AliHoward,
You may need to completely remove iTunes, QuickTime, and other Apple software from your system prior to reinstalling. The following articles (one for Windows XP, the other for Windows Vista/7) detail the removal process. I'll also link you to the latest version of iTunes for Windows (64bit specific installer).

Thanks Fred. The nearest Apple store is about two hours away, so we did the next best thing & took it to Best Buy. It stumped the "Apple Guy" there. Apparently when an Apple product is turned on it works. Period. I'm impressed that the products are normally so dependable--it just stinks that I got the one in a million that's not. Anyway, now we wait for a service call Tuesday morning. Thanks again!

  • Iphone 4 keeps saying "accessory not supported by iphone"

I have an iphone 4, and have updated it. I can't get to work with any fm transmitters. I have tried the itrip and the belkin tunebase FM live.  Each time the acessory will charge me phone, but will not play music.  As soon as you plug it in a window shows up that says "This Acessory is Not Supported by Iphone" even though the product is made for the iphone. I have made multiple trips to best buy and no one can help me.  How do I get past this error message and get the phone to play music through the fm transmitter?

I would try cleaning your dock connector.
There are many threads about this subject and it is possible there is no support for your iPhone in iOS 5 for your particular accessories, especially if they are older versions of an accessory.

  • Wahoo ANT - Accessory Not Supported by iPhone

I try to connect a Wahoo ANT+ Fitness device, model AP201, to my iPhone 4 with IOS 5.1. I get the error message "This Accessory is Not Supported by iPhone". My wife has the same iPhone and the same IOS version and the accessory is working 100 % correctly with her iPhone. I have tried the following: Reset device in iTunes, Restored backup from iTunes, Reset all setting; however, the same message appears on my device. I have also tried to remove lint etc. from the connector contacts. Any ideas what to do next?

This does not help you, but i would like to mention that I have the exact same problem with my AP201 model (iOS5.1.1).
    - Connector is clean (very clean).
    - IPHONE 3GS en IPAD2 are working correctly, and 4 different iphone4 models do not work....
I hope Wahoo or Apple has a solution to this problem.

  • IHome iA92 not supported by iPhone 4?

I just got an iHome iA92 speaker system.  When I dock my iPhone 4, it recognizes the iHome as a power source and begins charging.  However, the error message "This accessory not supported by iPhone." soon comes up, and music will not play through the iHome speakers.  My iPhone's software is up to date and I tried restarting it, but the problem continues.  The iHome box and manual both clearly state that it should work with an iPhone 4 and even has a special docking mold for the iPhone 4, but the error message comes up every single time I dock it, without fail.  Any ideas?

I have this same issue... Any help would be appreciated

  • This Accessory is Not Supported by iPhone

I have used a bedside iHome docking station for the last year with no problems.  All of a sudden, I get the message "This Accessory is Not Supported by iPhone".  It continues to charge just fine, but it disables the sound.  After charging, I have to shut the phone off, and when I turn it back on, the sound works again.  There has been no water damage on either the docking station or phone.  I have cleaned both the connections with air and with a dry soft bristle toothbrush.  Nothing has worked.  I have iOS 6.0.1.  Any suggestions?

Having "this accessory is Not Supported by iPhone" on many of my non-apple accessories. What's up with that??? Researched on a particular accessory and saw the below. Apple you have some bugs that need fixing. Interoperability and consumer choice is the best platform.
Anyone one else having sudden issues in the last year????

I have been dealing with this for weeks now. Contacted Logitech and they said it is an iOS 6.1 issue! Chatted with Apple iPhone support who recorded my call as a complaint/bug; recommended submitting feedback to Apple engineers; and so I wait for it to appear in iOS 6.1.3 or later. I have iPhone 4S w/iOS 6.1.1 and error message stating accessory is not supported by my device; whereasy wife's iPhone 4 works fine on the s751i

  • "This accessory is not supported with iphone"

Just got my iphone 4 loving it. Rocking the 1st generation dock, that came with my old iPhone I think, for the iPhone classic. I thought it fit and audio comes through the line out thing, my iTunes stuff plays perfect through my phone, but I keep getting:"This accessory is not supported with iPhone".
Is this true or is something wrong?

I would say that this is likely the result of apples preference to manufacture things that are premium in nature.
Case in point.  My apple g4 laptop is 20 years old, and still works.  My only problem with it is that if you pick it up with one hand it warps the motherboard, and detaches the video chip, crashing the laptop.  But the point of that is that it is a precision device.  IE like a precision piece of NASA equipment, the laptop must live on a flat surface, and not be subjected to warping.
Now applying this concept to the iPhone 6... its .25" thick.  has a medium to large screen.  And does not heat up when playing YouTube videos for 8 hours wile charging with its native accessory.  But think about that.  to achieve that kind of performance with out heating up, the iPhone must be engineered to such an extent, as to make it sensitive to the power input.
Incidentally, if I plug my iPhone 6 into a car charger, I bought at a gas station, and run YouTube, it heats up immensely... probably because it has to much current running into it.
In answer to your original questions, I would say that your accessory is not providing enough power to your iPhone to safely charge it.
other explanations might include an accessory that has a grounding problem, (the lady who electrocuted herself in china)
or the accessory is affected by a floating ground ( the negative line is not at zero volts)/ (or the iPhone needs a negative connection that is floating, and your accessory provides a negative connection at zero volts...
Personally I experienced this message on incompatibility, after my iPhone 6 was plugged into my pc for several house.  Incidentally that was how I learned that my work pc was having power issues... the USB power was dirty, which was causing unusual performance in the pc, and causing incompatibility with the phone.

  • Iphone 4s - This Accessory is not supported by Iphone.

    Hey,
I have an Iphone 4s. I have had the same ipod dock for about six months and have had no trouble playing music through my iphone on this dock. I plugged it in the other day and I got the message "This accessory is not supported by Iphone". I thought it may have been the dock so I tried my sisters phone (Iphone 4s) and hers worked perfectly fine, suggesting that it is an issue with my phone, not the dock. I also tried my phone on my sisters dock (which has worked in the past) and the same message appears. The docks will still charge my phone, just not play music. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Clean the dock connector with a soft, dry brush.
