Accidental erasure of drive?

While adding a new HD (Drive B) to a dual HD enclosure, I first disconnected the cable to the original drive (A), connected it to drive B (as master), then formatted it using Disk Utility. When I reconnected drive A as master and drive B as slave, I found that both my drives are now completely erased and appear to be mounted as Drive B. Could anyone please assist? Thank you.

you could try to boot with your Installation Disk 1 and use disk utility to do a repair on the disk. to see whether you really did do a format.

  • Lenovo S410p accidentally deleted NVIDIA Driver from device manager

    Hello,
I "accidentally" uninstalled my NVIDIA GeForce 720M driver from my device manager when I tried to reinstall the driver. Now it no longer shows up on the device manager at all, and I cannot install any driver since the laptop does not detect it anymore.
I am running Windows 8.1 64bit on a Lenovo ideapad s410p laptop. The only graphics driver detected is the intel one. And since I'm using a laptop, re-plugging in the graphics card is not really a feasible option either...
System restore does not work (The oldest backup, somehow, is AFTER the uninstallation), and I really do not want to resort to factory reset... And of course, before the uninstallation, the driver worked just fine.
Is there any way I can force the laptop to detect the GPU again? I am pretty sure the hardware is working fine, just undetected
Please help, I have no idea what else to do at this point. Thank you in advance..

    hi Votbear,
    Welcome to lenovo Community Forums!
Can you check under Drive D: if you still have the drivers folder back up
Try looking for the Video Graphics driver installer and install that.
In case you can't find the driver folder or the system does not have a D: drive
Try downloading the driver here, see if those work

  • Accidentally ejected Windows driver

In trying to eject a flash drive, I accidentally ejected the windows driver in the Finder window on the MAC side. I restarted the computer and the driver returned but now when I try to switch to windows side (using boot camp) a window says that it can't open be cause <windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll. is corrupt or missing.
Is there a way to fix this without erasing windows and re install with bootcamp? I don't want to loose the files on the windows side.
    Thanks,

i had to do a system restore, but now the driver is working

  • Accidentally Threw Hard Drive Icon in Trash

So now you've seen it all! Somehow I managed to accidentally drag and drop my internal HD icon into the trash and instead of ejecting the drive, Tiger created a neat little folder in the trash with 24,000 items in it.
    Crapola.
The computer is running just fine but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not it is ok for me to override all the security messages I'm getting and in fact erase the contents of the trash without completely wiping my system.
    Anyone?
    Thanks,
    Max

If everything is running fine, as you say, then a wipe and reinstall would seem to be overkill, when all that's wrong is… what? If the computer needed that icon there, then it would be unusable, don't you think? What if the poor 'puter, unable to eject itself, or to unbolt the drive, as instructed, merely did the next-best thing and 'copied' itself into the Trash?
Do not empty the Trash while you sort this out, but it seems this has not destroyed your ability to operate, so I think you'd be best to examine the situation further w/o taking drastic action.
For instance: I assume your Finder preference was set to display hard drives on the desktop (or you wouldn't have had anything to Trash). Is it doing so now, and if it is, what do you see when you double-click that icon? What isn't there, that you think should be there? If it isn't displayed, what happens when you toggle that Finder preference? What do you get when you do a Find on a filename like Library that the OS created? Or on your home folder? You can set Finder's new windows to open Computer, what do you see when you do?
If the computer needed that icon, it would have crashed, or not allowed you to do what you did, in fact displaying that icon would not be a user-defined preference (as it wasn't on OS9).
It may be that you have some work to do, but before doing the whole brain-transplant of a re-install, I think you should put a bit more time into diagnosis. The 'problem' may be smaller than you think.

  • Accidentally Erased Hard Drive

I was having some issues with my Windows partition and decided to erase it and re-partition again at a later date. While I was in Boot Camp Assistant, I accidentally chose the option to erase my entire hard drive and turn it into a Windows partition rather than restore it back to a single volume.
I'm slightly numb with the realization that I just lost everything on that hard drive. I had over 30000 photos on there that had not yet been backed up. Stupid, I know.
I guess the reason I'm posting is I'm hoping that someone might tell me that there is a way to restore my hard drive. I'm 99.99% sure there isn't, but I'm still hoping.
A side note: there needs to be some sort of secondary warning that tells the user that they are erasing their entire hard drive. Had another window popped up warning me that I would lose all my data, I likely would have realized that I had selected the wrong option. Instead, it just works. The one freaking time I wished something wouldn't "just work" on my Mac...

    Robert,
Ouch! Believe me, many of us know how much it can hurt to make an error like this and lose data. Fortunately there area a few things you can do to attempt recovery.
First of all, do NOT under ANY circumstances do anything with the computer until you have given up on recovering the data. Any action which causes the computer to write to the hard drive at all has the potential to overwrite your files. The files themselves are probably still there, only the directory which points to them is gone. The only exceptions to this rule should be following the later steps in this post.
Second, attempt to use a file recovery utility such as [ProSoft's Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/datarescuefeatures.php]. Often, though not always, using these programs will save some or all of your files. If this fails...
Third, assess just how valuable the files you are going to attempt to recover are to you. I say this because your next step is probably going to have to be asking a data recovery specialist for assistance. Many of them have incredibly good records of getting back files from even badly damaged hard drives, but they are NOT cheap. [DriveSavers|http://drivesavers.com> is one notable example, but there are others.
I hope this helps you. Good luck.

  • Drivers accidentally removed from driver packages

I've accidentally removed several drivers across several driver packages on SCCM 2007.  It was due to a misunderstanding of the "Add or Remove Drivers to Packages" dialog box.  I deselected the existing packages, wanting to add just to
a new package & not touch old working packages.  Doh!
I know the drivers that have been removed and have made a new package and distributed it to DPs.  However the drivers are still not being matched & installed by 'Auto Apply Drivers' even though
they are back on DPs (albeit different packages).  The Setupapi*.log says "There are no compatible drivers for this device".  Could someone please help troubleshoot? :-
Does the fact DPs havn't been refreshed for the old packages cause failure somehow with the new package?  Possibly the content is still thought to be in the old packages and the content search fails?  I'd be very grateful for any suggestions for
either restoring the drivers to where they were or getting the ones in the new package recognizable once more.  Failing that any suggestions on which logs to look at & how the MP/DP matches driver content.
    Extra info:-
-Some of the old packages have "Use a compressed copy of the source directory" selected.

So part of the problem here is that in years past driver source folders were specified as being the source root folder.  (The source root is a mush of content GUID folders from multiple driver packages!)  It means that now when I go to
refresh those old packages 9GB of drivers are included in the content that gets copied to the DP for each package even though the driver itself is only 50MB.  Thats 9GB for each of 10-20 packages currently being refreshed.  So thats a pretty
big replication storm going on now.
I've been able to find which content GUIDs are associated with which package by looking in the  v_DriverContentToPackage SQL table.  So I'll be able to move the right GUID folder to subfolders with the package name,
then redistribute.  Thats when the storm stops.
Anyone have any ideas for stopping the old packages refreshing?  At the moment I'm having to delete old content from the DPs so Distribution Manager can finish doing what it needs to.

  • Why start iCloud drive when Yosemite is not ready? Once accidental start iCloud drive, no downgrade option?

When IOS8 is release there is a simple switch to start iCloud Drive.  It is a nightmare.  My iWork field can no longer be sync with my Mac and Mac Air.
There is no downgrade method to resume the usual iCloud support.  Yosemite is not ready now.
There should be a warning for anyone who may not know the link between iCloud drive and Yosemite.
Why start iCloud drive when Yosemite is not ready for download?

Give Apple feedback on this at http://www.apple.com/feedback
Unfortunately the iOS 8 release was made fully functional even though some of the functions are not useable at this time.  That should have been clearer so the user knew not to activate a function that would not work fully.

  • Accidentally disabled usb driver

I was trying to update the USB controller driver for the iPod shuffle, because it kept resetting while transfering music. I accidently disabled the USB controller, and now my computer (both windows explorer and itunes) won't recognize the ipod shuffle. The drivers have also disappeared from the Device Manager.
When plugged in, the ipod shuffle blinks green quickly many times, and then flashes orange once, before blinking green once again. It continues in this cycle indefinatly.
Is there any way to either reinstall or enable the USB controller driver???

i had to do a system restore, but now the driver is working

  • Accidentally formatted external drive stock software

I bought an external hard drive and when i plugged it in, I opened the drive and noticed there was stock software on it. I tried to open the setup.exe. Out of habit, I checked the options on the drop down menu and formatted the stock software already on the drive. After I did this, I noticed i needed the software I formatted, and looked online in the support forums for toshiba products, but could not find that stock software anywhere. All the support forums lead me to is the drivers and updates, but the drive is runing fine, I just need the software that was on the drive when I bought it. Any help would be appreciated in locating the stock software. Included is the name on the box and the P/N on the sticker on the bottom of the drive to demonstrate model number.

    thanx tom,
first of, i like that you made the link appear as one word. how did you do that? it's really cool!
i downloaded the program, but i'm not sure how to use it... reading the guide just made me more confused... if i understand correctly, it will automatically reformat ALL my files to NTFS-3G ones, which are not as stable... i'm a little scared to install it... though i may have totally misunderstood what it says. i see mostly black when i try to read these kind of things...
anyone out there have experience with this program?

  • I accidentally formated iMac drive and lost data. How can I recover the iMac's HD data??

I accidently formated an iMac HD that I had connected to my MBP in target disk mode. (I also had a new WD harddrive connected to my MBP at the same time and was supposed to format the WD drive in disk ultility but clicked the wrong drive. I still can't believe what a boneheaded thing that was to do..)
Anyway, can I recover the files on the iMac and if so, how can it be done?
I can only connect to the iMac via target disk mode because the iMac display is not working.
I have not zero'd out the iMac's HD or written anything to it so I assume the data should be there all fully intact for the most part.

Thanks varjak paw and ds store. I ended up using data rescue 3. I called tech tool pro and they said that DR3 would probably help me. It did, it recovered what appeaers to be all of the files and a whole bunch of deleted files.
    A couple of notes:
When I ran DR3, it kept giving me a disk slowdown error and said that the iMac disk might be going. Turns out my computer that I was running DR3 on had to be set so that it stayed on all the time (no screen saver, no disk or display sleep, etc.).
Another reason I went with DR3 over SubRosaSoft was that when I called DR3, I was talking to somebody alive in less than a minute and they transferred me to tech support where they gave me instructions on how to use their software. When I called SubRosaSoft, I couldn't get anybody alive to talk to after several tries.

  • How do I reinstall the driver software for my iphone 3gs to my PC?

    Hi there,
I accidentally deleted the driver software for my iPhone 3GS and don't know how to get it back.
My computer is a Windows Vista and I can still sync to iTunes and sync music and photos etc. But I want to use internet tethering for an internet connection on my computer which I have done previously. One day I was mucking around with the tethering and I accidentally deleted my iPhone from the computer. I went to reinstall it and and it searched for the driver software which it could not find on my computer, after this it asked for a disc so it could search for the software on that. My phone never came with a disc originally and I didn't have this problem when I first got my iPhone and initially installed it. So I chose the option that I didn't have a disc, the next options are to browse manually or search for another option and both of those failed (I chose a manual locotion on the computer where I thought it might be which was: (C:)/Program Files/Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device Support/Drivers, but this didn't work.) The computer still recognises my phone and all it just needs to install it.
I would be pleased if I could get any sort of reply guys.

Probably only way is to call Applecare in your country and they may tell you who holds the lock. IIRC you IMEI and serial # are required
