Drag the Word icon back to where it belongs.
Applications > Microsoft Office 2011 > Put Word there.
I'm assuming you have Office 2011. If you have 2008 there should be a similar location to put Word.

In the context of restoring a drive from a backup, i copied /etc/sudoers from my backup. Now it does not work due to the permissions not being correct (even though it was copied via sudo cp -rp)
Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.) -

As per instructions from microsoft support i checked if there were duplicates for word/excel/powerpoint or if they were in the wrong place and they weren't. All of the microsoft applications aren't working. I really need them for school. Help!

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

i downloaded an upgrade from itunes last night to os5.1 i think. it said there was a problem with the download. now my phone will not work at all. it just has a picture of the itunes logo ans a picture of a usb cable on it. my computer will not recognise phone either

bought a second hand laptop running Windows xp. When I go to download firefox, the installation goes seemingly smooth, but the program will not open. There are no firefox processes showing in task manager when I do this. I just downloaded chrome instead, but it sucks and I want firefox but my computer rejects it. ThanksMy previous answer still stands: Restore from your backup taken before you upgaded to Mountain Lion. For example, a Time Machine backup, a Carbon Copy Cloner clone, or a commercial backup service. Not the disk that came with your computer (which is how I read "OS back up disk").
If you reinstall the original OS from the disk that came with your computer, it will wipe out everything on your computer. (The installer won't install an older OS over a newer one, so you'll have to wipe the disk first.) Then you'll need to restore your data from your backup and reinstall applications like Word. -

PDF file showing Microsoft Word icon in library
Hello all,
I've come across a weird issue in a Sharepoint 2010 library. We have a library that contains both WORD documents and PDF files. We have a custom functionality in our implementation that converts the WORD documents to PDF. For one specific document, after
the WORD document was converted to PDF, the converted PDF is still showing the microsoft word icon under document type.
As you can see, the document is clearly a PDF, but it's showing the Word icon. If I click on the document, it opens up as a PDF. Every other PDF document in the library is showing the correct PDF icon except for this one, so it's not an overall icon issue.
Anybody have any ideas on this? Is this something that can be edited for specific files? If not, does anybody have any idea what can cause this?

Configure PDF Icon
- Download PDF Icon from Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com/images/pdficon_small.gif and save it to
Images folder under 14 hive folder <var>(In my case C</var>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\14\Template\Images)
- Open Command Prompt and type IISRESET -Stop to stop IIS and edit Docicon.xml
- Navigate XML folder from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web máy chủ extensions\14\Template\Xml and open Docicon.xml by NotePad
- Insert <mapping key=”pdf” value=”<var>pdficon_small</var>.gif ” /> within the <ByExtension> section
- Save and Run command IISRESET -Start
